[Declined] Whitelist aplication for Industrial Frame
Munks replied to ben11567's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You want to use it for powergaming, you mean Your entire character background is built on this big mystery that "oh the NT vessel crashed mysteriously and Ratchet was the key to finding out what truly happened" and then once NT retrieves him it's just oh yeah so he tells them what happened and goes back to work. Its like you felt obliged to shoehorn in a generic Mysterious Pastâ„¢ but you didn't know where to go with it so you just gave up and brushed it aside to get to the part where he of course goes right back to work on the Aurora after being retrieved The vessel he was on was torn apart in space, enough for debris to be strewn across the galaxy. How was Ratchet not annihilated landing on the planet? Who repaired Ratchet? The little boy? Seems like he'd be the one NT is concerned about hiring, not a disposable labor slave robot, considering he's a robotics wunderkind who repaired an android (that had to endure re-entry and crash landing) in a kind of environment where raider attacks are commonplace Like what? Well, you say that, but apparently not good enough to know not to play a character (Terry Johnston) as both a Detective and a Medical Doctor, or try to hassle the AI into letting you into the Captain's Office so you can take command of the station just because there were no heads present (again as a medical doctor, nonantag) -
Why would you suggest this?
-
Heads of Security and Captains should be relied on to act in the best interests of Nanotrasen, if this is a source of conflict for your character enough to want it changed then its probably an issue with your character, not the implants Our legion of ATLAS Heads of Security/Captains are already bad enough without removing the only thing that forces them to place NT above ATLAS

Walking around with an identity-concealing mask is the utter opposite of stealthy, everyone notices someone wearing a gas mask/balaclava and instantly knows they're up to no good. This goes against what the OP is going for in being able to blend in and not be noticed and singled out from across the room. And it's not legal to be without an ID on, even on code green, so that just invites Security to hassle you even more as well

[Denied] Kyutness' IPC Whitelist Application
Munks replied to Kyutness's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
So, the IPC has canonically been witnessed/survived a xeno infestation? -
[2 Dismissal: Archived]Remove powernet failure event
Munks replied to ajstorey456's topic in Archive
We're slowly but surely getting rid of all of our random events that actually impact the round because they impact the round. Soon, it'll just be vines. 30 minutes is beyond an exaggeration because the APCs already automatically reset in only a few. Even less if engineering and/or the silicons are competent and just reset the APCs themselves, which is what usually happens and makes the entire event pretty much instantaneously nullified. The only thing is Tesla shouldn't be included in the outage just like the engine core doesn't shut down, and in fact I was under the impression it was already excluded. Otherwise, no, -1, adapt. -
Are we going to have half the station running around in fancy spess muhreen uniforms from a faction we're not even in any comfortable terms with? We should never even have allowed the first one, now everyone wants it.

The Nanotrasen Heist was an Inside Job (or a desire for Heist + Traitor)
Munks replied to SeniorScore's topic in Archive
Traitors have the option to buy a key if they want. Otherwise "communication" shouldn't be any further encouraged, it's entirely the antags choice if they do or don't cooperate with the other antags -
[1 Dismissal]Revert Cargo to Improve New System Off the Server
Munks replied to AllyBearsley's topic in Archive
Do you play cargo? People don't use cargo because people have never used cargo. Playing a lot of cargo recently, most of the customers were ones who make the same regular order every round, aside from the odd pizza crate. This is business as usual and it's doubtful that it has anything to do with the current cargo system. I sincerely doubt anything about the current system, aside from just lack of items, is going to turn people away. It's just selecting shit off the menu and then swiping your card on the EFTPOS. Its harder for people to figure EFTPOS operation out than the order menu. -
Scientists have more to do than RnD and scientists that exist solely to farm out RnD levels are bad, we should be pushing to move away from that, not using it as an example to move another job towards it. Cross department interaction is fine, shoehorning it in where it doesn't belong, sacrificing convenience for literally everyone involved, is not how it should be done. By OPs admission they haven't even played Roboticist so they shouldn't be suggesting a change like this that will gimp the role even further. It's giving one undertasked job even less to do, and another relatively heavily burdened job even more. The expectation should be that Nanotrasen brand roboticists do, in fact, have the applicable skillset to prepare a brain for MMI insertion. In fact, they should know it even more than a Surgeon should know it. Surgeons shouldn't be trained in lobotomy, nor should general med school prepare you for interfacing with Nanotrasen-brand MMIs. Nanotrasen's own in-house training, or the education roboticists take to specialize in robotics in the first place, should be more geared for working with their MMIs.
-
So basically just make it so that a Roboticist's entire job is just printing things out of a fabricator.

I too prefer Merchant to be a (relatively) rare occurrence. The kinds of items the Merchant brings into the round don't need to be a 100 percent, every single round kind of thing. It'd be like getting multiple guaranteed Unusual Crate rolls every round.
-
If they're just a ghost or observer, who cares? It's an issue if it's ingame, and he said they should be ahelped, but if they're not in-game I don't understand how this even comes up on your radar as an issue.
-
Maybe this is the problem, not him lacking security armor

I think posts made on a public forum are anyone's business and I'm glad it was brought up because it's yet another example of you using your abilities in a questionable manner, once again seeming like you're more interested in ensuring that you receive extra respect (or validation) you feel you deserve for being a staffmember rather than actually improving the quality of the community at large. I'm with Alexpkeaton in wondering why Scheveningen is still a moderator, especially in light of the fact that they're one of the most routinely complained about staffmembers that I've ever seen period.

Am I not inherently recognizing that my behavior is toxic by not arguing with the 3-day when it was given to me...? You went from your baity intro about how I 'freak out' all the time to a Rule 1 ban, and I saw no issue with it, so I acknowledged it and wanted to get the process over with. Yes, when you suddenly come out with a paragraph about why you're now banning me, that leads me to conclude that I'm about to be banned, regardless of how I react to it. Why would I argue with it if I understand why it's happening and have no issue with it?
-
I'm not sure how you'd see how your opening question, "Are you incapable of not freaking out everytime you die ingame?" however it was worded, to be anything but inflammatory in a situation like this. I responded with what I was given. Ask literally any other admin that speaks to me, and see how many recall me being snarky or pissy in admin PMs in response to actual professionalism. Attitude? I was taking the three day rather than bothering to argue with it, and I acknowledged it by saying bye instead of, again, silently logging off or being quiet and sitting there waiting for it to happen. Again. I'm not sure why you're trying to take it this far. I said 'bye', acknowledging a ban and getting it over with. You're spinning it into "oh, i guess you think being on this server at all is a waste of time, too, hmm?" trying to take it even further. I was being rude in deadchat, and you took issue with it through Rule 1 -- "Don't be a dick". Sure. Fair game. I didn't argue with it because I didn't see any reason to, because I recognize how it'd break rule 1. No, I didn't argue. Nor did I silently log off. I said "Bye" to get it over with, and you took "Bye" as an excuse to double the ban, because, not as satisfying?
-
BYOND Key: Munks Total Ban Length: 1 Week Banning staff member's Key: Scheveningen Reason of Ban: Shit deadchat attitude, being a dick. Was more intent on flinging crap in deadchat rather than responding to the staffmember for a discussion. Reason for Appeal: As a result of ingame activity (trying to give someone an opportunity to surrender and getting silently headgibbed for it when I could have shot them) I'm pissed off in deadchat and calling powergamey actions for what they are. Scheveningen bwoinks me and literally just asks me something along the lines of "Are you incapable of not freaking out everytime you die ingame or something?" This is a completely rhetorical question, from Scheveningen no less, that could have easily been asked in deadchat or something so I ask them to use normal dsay or whatever if they want to idly chat, and then go back to talking in deadchat. Scheveningen took this as a reason to write about how toxic and rude I am and that they're giving me a three day ban over it. Rather than argue with them, I simply respond with "Bye." because I'd rather get the ban over with and leave than log out there and risk getting hit with 'logging out during an adminhelp' or something. Scheveningen then took me saying "Bye." as being snarky in adminhelp and more than doubled it into a weeklong ban. I'm not sure what sort of discussion Scheveningen was hoping to arouse from their initial message, but if they were interested in conversation then they could have worded it in a less bait manner. It was a stupid rhetorical question, baseless considering I hardly react strongly to being killed, and I didn't take it seriously. Whenever literally any other admin bwoinks me on this server, they act professional about it and I respond in kind, despite whatever "toxic attitude" Scheveningen thinks that I've made a habit of responding with in ahelps. I don't think that not taking "Are you incapable of not freaking out everytime you die ingame or something?" seriously as an adminhelp is worth a three day ban, and I don't see how responding with "Bye" to being told that I'm being banned is 'escalating' and worth turning it into a seven day ban. Should I have argued with it instead, or just silently logged off while being talked to? Please elaborate

At the risk of deviating from the subject of a custom item application, why is a subversive element a Head of Security
-
Aside from the already established methods, I think it would be worth considering some sort of actual emergency services alarm system. Alarm panels (common throughout video games) that you can use to either call Security or Medbay, with the former getting an alert to the front desk (enabling some sort of Dispatcher role, possibly) or and the latter to the front desk and Paramedic bay. Honestly, the removal of common just opens up possibilities for more interesting means of communication that would otherwise be redundant or relatively slow. Obviously this isn't the place to suggest these, but it's a hint at the possible suggestions for if this does become a thing. This already happens, though. All the time. Lings, Vampires, and Cultists all get super easymode silence-stuns. The answer is for people to just stop thinking they're obligated by "RP" to go to obscure, remote locations in maint with complete randoms just to "check out this cool thing I found in maint". Make them work for it. You're on the job and you don't know the person, use the IC consequences of running off into maint with them while being on the clock to avoid it. And as for the asteroid? If An antag is turning your sensors off and dumping you down a hole, it doesn't matter if you have common to scream over. You're done. The best you can do is call out their name and hope they get caught after the fact, but either you're close enough to the entrance that a search party finds you visually, or you're too far away and you're out. This is mostly just an issue of people being powergamers and removing people from the round, but having common isn't going to impact it.

He is still an off duty Head of Security. It makes no sense that he would be parading around wearing a military uniform representing a faction holding dubious-to-hostile relations with Nanotrasen. This goes beyond inciting personal hostility from coworkers, to standing against Nanotrasen itself. Servicemembers in real life do not take their uniforms to work and run around dressed in them in their private sector jobs, so why would this be a thing? Regardless of Visitors not being paid, he is there, in his place of work, as an off duty high ranking official, and you want him to be wearing the uniform of a faction that Nanotrasen is anywhere from wary to outright hostile with. There is no reason any rational Head of Security would pull something like this, nor would any veteran of such experience think it's a good idea to anyway no matter how proud he is of his service. No one I have ever known with a military affiliation has ever thought "hey, I'm so proud of my service, I'm going to wear my military uniform to work". This is just a custom item for the sake of having a custom item.

I'm sure it's purely up to the person to declare something regarding his own character non-canon. I was told that people involved had to agree to call it non-canon otherwise you have one person who remembers arresting someone (without antags involved, otherwise it would have been noncanon by default) and someone who declares every arrest on him noncanon so he has a clean record despite being in the brig every shift. If it's not true, I don't see the point in having briggings recorded in the first place. That's not the point though. Yahir Jones is not someone that would be here, on account of flirting/borderline sexually harassing everyone constantly, as well as the fact he can hardly seem to go a shift without being arrested. If we are going to file an IR about him being arrested every shift and harassing people constantly, then we would have to consider all these canon. This would then mean we'd forgo the IR entirely and go right to charges because there's no point in filing an IR against someone who does something blatantly illegal anyway. Do you see then why this should be handled OOC?
-
Why should it not be handled OOCly when it's a character that, in-character, shouldn't have made it on the station to begin with? He acts like a child every shift. As in, he does not even attempt to maintain some sort of illusion that he's here because he's a competent professional. I see him hit on everybody, sometimes not even just limited to words, it's creepy and it's not something that should be here. Yahir Jones is a consistently lowRP character that has already gotten in shit for it before but managed to fly under the radar while not changing a bit since he was told to. I recall hearing in OOC not long ago that it's supposed to technically be against the rules to constantly wipe your recorded security incidents from when you were nonantag, because you're basically declaring events noncanon when you need everybody involved to agree to declare it noncanon. This is brought up for an obvious reason: Yahir Jones gets arrested all the fucking time, plenty as a nonantag. If these are supposed to be canon if he wasn't an antag, then he should already be long gone.

Given the the "quality" of some of the heads of staff players we have it's completely ridiculous to think heads of staff should basically get their own note system that we can't do shit about but hassle a Captain or IAA to remove. Regardless of how many head of staff players want it. Maybe when you guys stop threatening people with firing and slander charges for being rude to you or pointing out your mistakes. This is way too much responsibility for one simple whitelist.
