  1. thats pretty fucking sweet, i do think color picking would be cool.
  2. BYOND key:JFerguson Character names:Rennek Drakiv, Antony Kell, Jack Kingston, Carter Jenkins, Maggie Whitewall, OSx96 How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Around 2 Years now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:I've been playing on Aurora for awhile; I believe I've reached the point where I can competently perform most jobs on the station and I have a familiarity with the rules, staff and community members. I enjoy leadership roles and feel I thrive when given responsibility; I'd want to provide a more realistic approach to a lot of situations and try to play more empathetic characters who try and reason situations out while improving role play for antags and crew alike Why did you come to Aurora?: I was initially shown SS13 by a friend in a chat; I looked into it myself and I tried the first server I could find; It was TG and I had a really bad experience and got frustrated with how silly it was; my second server was aurora and I was delighted to meet all the characters, it felt like a living place with people who cared and it's been the only server other then CM I play for 2 years. Aurora's staff have always been fair to me and do a great job and players have always been fun to interact with and considerate to role play with Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: In my opinion roleplay is not just about playing a character - it's about building an environment and immersing yourself in the setting. I think roleplay should focus on emphasizing the experience not just for yourself but for everyone else, and a good roleplayer should make efforts to facilitate the aspirations of the people around him, because it's not just a story revolving around you. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:In OOC Heads of Staff should act as mentors; when dealing with new or inexperienced players, you should ensure that they're being treated well and help them learn the server, the station, and their job. The other main OOC role for Heads is to prevent the round from becoming a powergaming simulation. Heads have a great deal of authority and responsibility and must avoid abusing it, and must check other Heads as well to nudge them away from powergamey behavior; the game isn’t interesting if the antag doesn’t have an opportunity to do anything. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:In the same vein as the previous question, I think it's important to keep gameplay fair, byond that, you should try and keep a better face with the community: acting like an ass to everyone on discord or OOC when you've been given a privileged position doesn't reflect well on you or on the server. One of the things I've personally been doing is trying to expand the level of interaction and community out of game; with the Odin Murders I've had an opportunity to use my character to further a plot and develop interesting new avenues for roleplay that directly complement the game and lore and feel that a White listed character would have more impact and be able to contribute more to such an experience. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Jack Kingston Character age:35 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Jack Kingston was born on Earth and was raised with a strong sense of community; growing up he spent a lot of time focusing on politics, and felt that he owed a debt to the world that brought him up. Kingston went through university to get his Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Psychology, going on to enlist in the Sol Alliance Navy as a Military Policeman, where he gained his security skillset. Over the course of his ten-year Navy career, Kingston often attempted to improve the procedures and practices at his Navy postings but was often shut down by superiors due to the rigid and unchanging nature of the military. He left the service after fulfilling his contract, and spent period of listlessness reevaluating his career. While considering whether to accept another 5 or 10 year contract with the Sol Alliance, Kingston came across a job posting for Nanotrasen. Seeing it as an opportunity to move to a more fluid work environment where he'd be able to make changes and rise up the ranks, he took the job, and has been working with Nanotrasen ever since. What do you like about this character?: I think Jack's main strong-suit is his ability to quickly respond to multiple situations and take steps to address them; his back story isn't the " ERT Commando " but years of mundane security experience. He deeply understands and relies upon regulations and procedure, and this helps him rapidly and appropriately take action. Being extremely patriotic but not overzealous is something I also enjoy because it brings out pride in a way that isn't offensive or insensitive. What do you dislike about this character?:What really bothers me about Jack is his reliance on corporate policy; the fact he's constantly trying to please people can sometimes get in the way of his performance and can hurt more then it helps. Often he spends a lot of time trying to talk situations down and if people rush into situations he can become extremely agitated. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think Kingston is fit for this role due to his experience and his reputation in security; currently he is finishing up the Odin-related dramatics and will soon be back to his more collected composure. Generally he's a reliable but intense character who can multi task and deescalate situations quickly; he's been loyal to nanotrasen for a long time and seeks to do good for the company, while climbing the ladder as far as he can. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:I believe I sit at a comfortable level; I'm not able to emote 40 words per second but I'm able to convey a solid level of humanity, self preservation and depth in characters. With the recent lore events I've been able to expand my ability and learn so much more and have fallen in love with roleplaying. I try to learn every day to make my roleplay and my character more believable. Extra notes:
  3. is this rome?
  4. +1 from me, I really like the idea of having more reasonable individuals in security who dont just want to flash gank people.
  5. Elaborate backstory, I really like it; what made you go with that story? im actually really curious how you ended up going down the route of Diplomatic Bot. reminds me of a less socially awkward CP-30. my biggest question is more or less how your character would respond to violent situations, being an IPC but one trained diplomatically how would you try and prevent violence in an IC perspective?
  6. I love this idea, when private companies have problems they generally call local law enforcement; private companies still call to the US navy or Coast guard when their ships are in distress and sometimes your response will vary; even private property they still refer to the local police authority for matters on and near property. my only thought is maybe make the ERT something other then a whitelist, ... maybe make it based on game hours on the server...like reward loyalty to the server with access to it and the legion is available to everyone; that way you're not excluding the people youd want to be playing it and preventing the ERT from being inexperienced memes. I would be curious as to what their loadout would be and how they would operate; I think ontop of this there should be more response teams. a CBRN task force is absolutely needed at some point; calling in the ERT who bring primarily guns to many different situations just ends poorly; a Medically focused response team for cleanup and assistance can help prolong situations. if theres a virus outbreak and you call in a CBRN team; the people who come in should be medically oriented and focusing on containment procedures; giving orders to people to contain themselves and orient on making those really....really annoying rounds where medbay is a meme easier.
  7. Sounds good, I would hope to see the HoP take a more hands off approach so im excited for this, +1 hoping u follow through!!
  8. I have interacted with 3/4 of your characters and they each have their own well fleshed out personality to them, I have missed seeing them it would only benefit aurora to have them back!! +1
  9. just a random question, as HoP how would your character interact with the Cargo and Service areas? as they do fall under the command of the HoP and I am curious if you intend to have any kind of interaction with them or if they'll be something you consider more in your job then others.
  10. kell be with u
  11. thank you dabur, i can always count on you.
  12. 13. acts like a crybaby bitch +1 -2
  14. what also goes against my benefit is lack of character variation, i've only made two characters and almost never stray from the simple comfort of engineering, my roleplays are almost always typically the same and i generally go out of my way to be a reclusive character with anti social traits which again isnt unique or very impressive; i think my strengths lie in my ability to teach people things; over the time ive played ive introduced atleast 25 people to the game, though many people find the game difficult a few people do stick to it and end up forming their own path on aurora like cameron, leigh or pope. i think thats mostly where my strengths lie, my excessive need to teach and demonstrate so that people can experience things and thereby vicariously finding enjoyment through theirs.
  15. ultimately if i was in your position, with the information you had i would be inclined to be against it; i would of infact not of given my post a chance, i am unfortunately a lot more critical in circumstances like that and i wouldnt doubt anyone for seeing it that way. in terms of activity i've always been a community driven person, i cannot really play games for my own benefit or amusement because they become dry and lose any sense objective, which is why after i essentially learned all of the controls, the mechanics, the game modes and the people; i lost interest in the activity and returned only to try and approach the departments differently but failed because of the naive and ambitious nature of my ideas. i disappeared randomly one day because of the fact i lost interest in the game; it was difficult to do the same thing over again because of the lack of responsibility which normally drives me in other games. i've almost always, in every adventure maintained some level of power or responsibility and over zealously accomplished my goals and objectives, i actually host a regular arma community and have to direct people on voice chat on a regular and i am known as the most serious and no nonsense person; there is an obvious disconnect when i participate as a player, one that always drives me to become bored of the game for the same reason.
  16. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account:JFerguson Character Name(s):Antony Kell, Rennek Drakkiv AI Name(s): Preferred means of contact: Discord Age:20 Timezone:EST When are you on Aurora?:Inconsistently but up to 10 hours at a time available on the discord, infrequent on the server Experience How long have you played SS13?:A Year How long have you played on Aurora:Maybe 5 or more months How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?:A healthy amount and more as I have hosted my own server publicly and learned every single admin tool Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?:I have experience with the tools and not the people Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?:No, but my behavior constantly stretches the potential for it. Personality Why do you play SS13?:Because I enjoy trying to find new dynamics to approach situations with and to interact mostly with people Why do you play on Aurora?:It's the first and really only server I've ever really considered worth time, in my bookmarks it's called ' good ' because of the fact other servers allow things like murdering boning; or has a lot of unchecked authority doing pointlessly abusive things; aurora maintains a good balance but still has some leeway for certain behaviors and personality What do moderators do?:Maintain the balance of the games and chats, by interjecting when possible to elevate the stress of a situation off of players and by handling things so it doesnt result in a punishment being required; the most effective moderator utilizes no tools and only mediation What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?:a chance to be a new member of the community, holding some level of responsibility would likely drive me to be a more well rounded member of the community; i personally have run communities ( i promise this isnt one of those empty anecdotes ) full of people, some of the largest going up to 16,000 and i have been burdened with the behaviors of others and have had to constantly keep people in check; some sort of drive is what keeps me focused on maintaining my own behavior to a strict but sensible level. Why do you want to be a moderator?:it would be a good opportunity to show the community what i am capable of besides making a bad character meme and shitty behavior on the discord; aswell as a way to occupy myself in the many hours i have free. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?:A nearly infinite availability and the ability to mediate exceptionally well. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?:I separate things very well, being ontop of the food chain in prior situations has taught me to absorb everything into a separate space to deal with and personally review later; in a potentially inflammatory situation my focus is to constantly prod the issue patiently and with nothing but an inquisitive nature Anything Else You Want to Add: I hope you can see past the obvious undisciplined behavior and i demonstrate on the regular as an obvious slacking personality; it's a means of mindless entertainment when you're not tasked with anything and review only the capabilities of me as an admin as i describe here and not the examples of my obviously poor behavior; but would not fault anyone for taking that into account as it is apart of being an admin to have a reputation.
  17. +1 i once od'd and ran around screeching at liqour machines in dark hallways to feed me, feed me like a baby bird and it was my mother
  18. the suits should automatically expend oxygen if the suits on unless the helmets off in my opinion, if they assemble everything but the helmet they can take it off and the suit should make an audible hissing noise bc most of the body would be separated by insulation for most of the limbs or even just the head / torso bc turning oxygen on and off on an entire suit on the fly would be like pressurizing and depressurizing it and then u can have the helmet coming off produce a hiss aswell and also fog their version for a second when they put the helmet back on bc unless ur telling me the suit somehow keeps your limbs from being crushed without the oxygen turned on and is comfortable by being just rigid sheet metal and/or a skin type suit u crazy or u can give the face masks a cool retractable ability B)
