I agree with this, I do think that if you break a leg it shouldn't be the end all, be all, and I also think it'd be great to be able to "rest" and then crawl about. I also think it'd be great if you could still use your hands when you're just lying down to do simple things like first aid. But I also agree that there should be a few seconds of cooldown before you can crawl, or pick up items, for balance reasons, and that when you fall the items in your hand fall out of your hand to the floor (either you set them down so you can lie down, or if you lied down for more violent reasons because they fell out of your hands when you hit the floor), so Urist McSecurity can't have a bullet shatter his femur and still fire his gun and crawl away with zero impediment.

Why not just make it stop moving like when you break a cam, and have a grey bit over the end of it? Would that work?

[2 dismissals; Bin 2.12]Add Flashlights and Radios to the SecTec Dispenser
LordBalkara replied to Fortport's topic in Archive
The maglight deals as much damage as a harmbaton. I'm not saying Cadets should have them to beat everyone they see doing something wrong, but what if a Cadet is cornered by a Space Bear, or a spider, or a carp that got in the station somehow? And like I said earlier, a single guy with any form of gasmask or voidsuit, along with easily obtainable sunglasses, would basically make the cadet's tools of a flash and pepperspray useless. And while most of these situations could be solved with CQC skill, Cadets usually aren't experienced enough to outskill any of those things. -

LordBalkara replied to Fortport's topic in Archive
https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Autolathe You can't print a maglight in an autolathe, unless it's one of the hacked items. But even then, that would require a hacked autolathe, which would mean badgering an engineer to hack an autolathe for you, so it can print your maglight. And maglights are an important piece of Security equipment for a few reasons, some of which I've already stated: They're the closest thing Cadets get to a fallback/lethal option They have much longer range than other lights in-game, making them ideal for seeing down the long corridors of Maint during a sweep, or spotting someone in the dark from a distance away. Other lighting options, such as the heavy duty or regular flashlight, have nowhere near the distance of a Maglight, though tend to be more wide, making them more ideal for lighting large wide darkened areas, rather than in tight long corridors -
If your whole issue is that too many people know secret isn't extended, then why not suggest extended have a higher chance of occuring? Even a 10-15% chance of extended might be enough to make people start assuming the more quiet rounds are just extended.

I'll miss you.

[2 dismissals; Bin 2.12]Add Flashlights and Radios to the SecTec Dispenser
LordBalkara replied to Fortport's topic in Archive
I feel like putting mag lights in lockers could work, but there should still be some on the table, because otherwise detectives/CSI will snatch them from Cadet's. And the thing is, a mag light is the closest thing a regular Cadet has as a lethal weapon. All it takes is someone with a gasmask/voidsuit and a set of sunglasses nabbed from maint or given to them for their job to basically make the Cadet unable to combat him, unless the Cadet is really good at CQC (which, given he's a Cadet...) or has a mag light. TL;DR Not all of them should be in lockers. -
1 dismissal [+1 dismissal]Merchant roll/roundstart change.
LordBalkara replied to sdtwbaj's topic in Archive
+1, I feel like it would be better if you got the same menu raiders do as merchant, would allow more freedom and less sacrifice to try and play merchant. -
I also feel like this should be dealt with ICly. I think a regulation maybe specifically for "Not wearing the appropriate uniform" for roles where it's essential could work to deter it, and would feel less restrictive. After all, the tacticool turtleneck may look nice, but no one's going to touch it if it means your fellow officers will have to brig you/report you to a head.

+1 makes sense as a more easily fixable and less noticeable version of smashing the camera, and the AI can still notice it if he realizes he can't see in that spot

[Accepted] Lord_Balkara's IPC application
LordBalkara replied to LordBalkara's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
As he was inexperienced, it likely took the man several years to fix up the IPC. As for why the company was making junk IPCs that's because they were intended as very cheap IPCs that could be bought in bulk. Why spend money on an expensive borg, or a hi-tech IPC, when you can buy 500 cheap Helpers? So, it's not really a high end product, but more of one of those brands you buy because you know it's junk, and it's cheap junk at that. -
BYOND Key: Lord_Balkara Character Names: I have quite a few, but the most well-known are probably Matthew Rayburn, BADA BING, BOB-OS, and Damian Alliman Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, to be completely honest, partially because I'm curious what playing as an IPC is like. But also because I've had a few interesting char ideas, and I think it would be nice to try them out. Another reason is that it's much more simpler to RP as than other races, since I've already RPed a few synthetics. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, the character may not be sentient, or more intelligent than any borg for that matter. Another way is that the character may not feel pain, so screaming in pain isn't always the go to reaction to pain, and a simple, bland statement like "It appears I am injured" may be more apt. It's also worth taking into account the stigma around synthetics, as many people look down on them. Character Name: Helper 593 Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The Helper line of IPCs was pretty much always obsolete. The only reason it was even sold was as a lower cost budget version of a regular IPC. So, when a beaten down Helper unit was simply discarded and left to be scrapped, no one would have really cared. However, someone working at the landfill noticed it, and upon closer inspection, found it may have even been fixable. He talked to his boss about it, and, for what was practically peanuts, was allowed to buy it and take it home. Cleaning it out, and using the extranet as a guide, was able to replace most of the damaged parts using cheap ones he bought online. Over time, he felt a sort of bond with the IPC, the same bond many people felt with a nice car they work on. Finally, one day, the time had come. He pressed an activation button on the posibrain, put it back in the Helper's head, closed it up, and waited. Slowly, the lights on it's face flickered, and then came on. It looked at him and said "What is your name, Master?". He was filled with glee to find that his project had borne fruit. He was even more filled with glee when he found out that a Helper unit could download information from the internet, and could use this information to apply for a job. He is now a wealthy man, as his Helper now works at an NT facility, providing money for him. What do you like about this character? I feel like it gives me a good backdrop to play an IPC that isn't exactly "sentient", and isn't necessarily "free" either, as I feel most people make a free sentient IPC. The only thing I'm really worried about is a garbage man replacing broken parts in an IPC, but if it's too much of an issue I could always find some other excuse, like a company that rents out IPCs to other companies as "employees". How would you rate your role-playing ability? I have issues with it sometimes, but I always listen to criticism and try to apply it to how I role play. Notes:

[Resolved] XanderDox - Player Report
LordBalkara replied to CrimsonAerospace's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Here is Eleanor Shen acting condescending and rude to their HoS, telling them to "Remember their place" because they reminded them as a fellow head that they are still subject to corporate regulations. Here is Eleanor Shen saying that the HoP attempting to call a CCIA to make a complaint is slander. Slander is defined as: "To spread false rumors in order to damage someone's reputation." A practically private Fax almost no one would see is not a "false rumor" By the By, there's a separate charge, "Slandering a Head of Staff" that as a Captain, you should have known about and applied instead. Here is the Captain saying that the HoS cannot criticize the Captain, not even over private command channel. And also, all but saying "I am the law!" with that "I am not above or below regulations. I am an Agent of regulations." Here you are implying over Security comms that the Detective having the HoP with a charge of slander in their office is "aiding and abetting" and "concealing" them. Here is the Captain harassing the HoP before they go to cryo. Some of these images may have been in the OP, since I PMed Crimson many of them. As for you taking the headset off someone. Revoking someone of their right to have a headset itself is fine to do as a Captain. What isn't fine is insisting on doing it yourself. You have an entire department who's job is to do that kind of thing. Honestly, from the way you behaved, I thought it was Revolution, and that you were a Loyalist, until I heard people flipping out over a ling eating people. Which also brings me to my next point: You were still insisting that Security deal with a Slander charge, with is 3 minutes or a 150 credit fine for the first offense, whilst a pile of 4 corpses had been found in maintenance. Believe me, 4 murder charges is more important to Security than one Slander charge. The next thing I bring up is from a different round I was not present for, but heard quite a bit about in Deadchat. You attempted to exercise your authority over the ERT, even though once the ERT boards the station they hold all authority. Then, once they'd made this very clear to you, you attempted to hang yourself in direct view of them while calling them "seditious". And ran when they cut you down. I don't know if it's true, because that sounds like something that would lose you your Head whitelist immediately, but it is what people said. You seem to have a bit of a misunderstanding about how Captains should behave. Putting your own life first is okay, since you are by definition more important than everyone else. However, acting condescending and rubbing it in everyone's face that you are more important than them feels more like something a baldie Security Officer would do to a Cadet than something a Captain should be doing. To me, the best scenario here isn't that you lose your whitelist, but that you get a warning, and you realize that the way you have been behaving as Captain is not okay, and so you change for the better. -

Include more items as an option in the loadout screen
LordBalkara replied to LordBalkara's topic in Archive
It's more about convenience. Sure, you could make an item app and wait a few weeks, maybe even longer for it to get approved. But why do all that and have all that trouble when it could just be as simple as clicking a few items in the loadout screen? -
There are a lot of outfits and costumes in the code that provide no real mechanical upsides, yet are only available if you happen to find them. I can understand why some items, such as the psychedelic jumpsuit, cue ball helmet, imperial monk, and other such flashy and desirable items might be harder to find. After all, their rarity is part of what makes them so great. And things like the pirate outfit, the clown outfit, the mime outfit, or the soviet uniform not being available in the loadout screen also make sense, as they're all fairly silly outfits, and it would be difficult to justify why your character would be bringing them to work. But I don't understand why some have to be unobtainable by anyone except by lucking out and finding it in maint, which you may not even have access to. Things like the workman's outfit, the postman's outfit, the green "captain's" suit, or the vice officer's suit are entirely unobtainable unless you retrieve them from maint, yet they aren't really desirable (or rare), nor are they really that silly. TL;DR Make items that aren't too wacky or rare for a reason available through loadout

I was a Security Cadet, but ironically enough I earned it assisting with medical since it was just a borg and a dying doctor. I was the borg's hands, and the doctor probably would have died, leaving only the borg to staff medical, had I not helped. It was during an extended round and other people received medals as well, because someone went bonkers for whatever reason, and they helped fight them. EDIT: According to the HoS who gave me the medal it was for, paraphrasing here, "Remembering Security isn't just about beating up the bad guys, but helping the good guys."

So I was shitposting in OOC, as I tend to do, when I thought about something. There is a lot of chars with some form of pink/blue/some-other-wacky hair color. Now, we could just chalk this up to snowflakery, but why not provide an IC explanation for it? Some kind of new fad is sweeping humanity, and all the younguns (and olduns trying to fit in) are caught up in it. Naturally many old people (and some young people) disapprove of the fad, seeing it as bad taste. Suggested names for the fad were: Neopunk Neon night Neonpunk Pinkpunk Neofunk Splunk Maybe some kind of content for this clique? Even just renamed items could work. If not, I'd understand.

1 dismissal [1 Dismissal] Dionae Gestalt Ideas
LordBalkara replied to LordBalkara's topic in Archive
The first idea is already something Dionae can do, just far more slowly. -
I think the ability for two gestalts to combine without splitting, and then split as a whole gestalt would be nice. Additionally, it would be nice if nymphs retained their biomass when inside a gestalt, and could gain more if the gestalt ate food. The mega-diona thing has been removed, since no one seems to approve of it.

BYOND Key: Lord_Balkara Character name: Matthew Rayburn Item name: robust security award Why is your character carrying said item to work?: He got it canonically in an extended round, and is obviously proud of it. Item function(s): Just an accessory. Item description: The default is fine. Item appearance: The default is fine. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP?: Well obviously his award would make him more interesting as a character, and he's proud of it. People may see it and ask how he got it. Additional comments: I would understand if you refused had I not earned the medal, but given that I canonically earned it and was awarded it in an extended round, I think it would make sense for me to have it.

+1 I like the idea of what the round is being less knowable. Only downside is that check round info exists. Maybe remove that verb too?

The basic idea is an electrical gun that hits one person, and then arcs to anybody in a tile adjacent to them, then tiles adjacent to those people, then tiles adjacent to those people and so on and so forth. Pros of the weapon: Could be used to attack multiple enemies at once Useful for crowd control Cons of the weapon: Will not differentiate between friend and foe, so using it when allies are within it's path will harm them as well If you are within one tile of your target or one of the people in the chain, it will also hit you The weapon requires a lot of electrical power to use, meaning it has very few shots and a somewhat lengthy recharge time. Edit: An additional idea to balance it one way or another might be to make it only stun, and not do real damage.
