  1. Thing is, on the topic of roboticist, two are rarely ever needed and usually just step on eachother's toes. So I could see this as a replacement for one of the roboticist jobslots, so we get a robotics training role and have less issues where robotics is overstaffed.
  2. I was talking as though things were going normally. In an nonstandard situation, such as a crippled miner meaning a borg needs a reset, and slimes need killed, then standard operating procedure isn't always the best. So, depending on what the scientist's species and qualifications are, I may order them to do one, irregardless of what is and isn't fun. I might also request that AI assist them, in case they don't know how to do it, or tell them how myself over comms while doing my half myself. As for David not really taking charge, that's just him being polite, as most people will get annoyed and just ignore it if someone of equal rank tries to tell them what they can and can't do. Though there are occasions where I'll voice my opinion without "ordering". Really though, if I was an RD, merely being "equal" wouldn't be as much a concern, and I could go from passively voicing my opinion to overtly telling them when something is irresponsible or not okay, like when I see a scientist hold onto Plat and mhydrogen to use as decoration, or a roboticist breaking into RnD simply due to the lack of scientists. Then I could go from trying to alert Sec/Command (and getting ignored because antaggery) to handling it myself, either by verbally reprimanding them, or suspending them.
  3. BYOND key: Lord_Balkara Character names: David, Billy Moretti, Song Of The Wind, Cooper Milne, and more that I don't play enough to feel they're worth mentioning here. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Going by my first warning, about 10 and a half months. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've had an interest in seeing what playing as a head would be like, and might even try making an IAA char. Why did you come to Aurora?: It was one of the first servers I'd ever played on, and it's mechanics appeal to me. RP-wise, I feel like there's slightly less snowflake chars. But only slightly. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yep. Surprised to find out how many roles an IPC can be in, if it's NT owned. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: It's about constructing an interesting and likable story, thus why the bad guys are called "antagonists" rather than "enemies". They're meant to be the antagonists of an interesting and enjoyable story. And that extends to the rest of the game. You RP fear at the evil cult because a story becomes too ridiculous and weird if characters respond to an evil magical cult by charging them with crowbars and toolboxes while screaming about "valids". What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Mechanically, to do the basics of any necessary jobs in their department that the people in said department can't do themselves, such as a CE in a department with Atmos doing engine set up, or a CMO doing surgery, or a HoS guarding brig. They're also an example to look up to, as what someone in that department should behave like. They're also supposed to coordinate their department, though I don't know if that's more IC than OOC. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Well, not to ruin their fun and gameplay. If I join as Scientist with the intent of doing RnD and trying the new integrated circuitry, but the RD instead tells me to work on guns, or do toxins, it can ruin the round for me. If I join as Engineer and intend on setting up engine, but CE instead orders me to do solars while they do engine, it can be a disappointment to me. Character name: David Character age: 5 years.(I know requirement is 30, but that's literally the limit for IPCs, so I'll just assume it's intended for humans.) Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): David was made by a small upstart research firm. He wasn't pretty, or even that believably human. Wires and casing were visible under his pale skin, his eyes were black camera lenses, and his hair had a fake, plastic sheen to it. But he was made to move and act very human, his blatantly synthetic appearance a sacrifice to allow for more advanced processing and precise movement capabilities. His creator, Quinn, poured his blood and soul into creating the most human-like, not by appearance, but by movement and mannerism, IPC he could. David was made to be very intelligent, and so soon became an assistant to Quinn and the rest of the lab, eventually even an arguably equal member of it. But in the end, David didn't want freedom, or equality, like many other Synths were t the time, but only to help his creator, and to make him happy. And then, the 33rd came. They had been there for a while, enforcing an embargo which had put some strain on the research firm. But when they invaded Biesel, it was the beginning of the end for it. Men and Women in dark green uniforms came, and demanded the end to all robotic operations in the lab, and the possession of all synthetics already made and owned by the lab. Quinn tried to defend David, and hide him, but unfortunately David was found. Quinn was executed for his resistance, and David sold to the highest bidder. Only just under a year ago has David managed to regain his freedom after People from the Research lab found him and in a legal battle regained proper ownership of him. But it was too late. David was changed by his creator's death in defense of him, almost a year enslaved to strangers, and the other hardships he suffered due to the occupation of the 33rd. Though he hides it well, and avoids bringing it into his professional life, David is very bitter towards Organics, Skrell especially, and also harbors a distrust of everything Sol. What do you like about this character?: I think his background is somewhat interesting, and he's not just an average everyday shell, since he's very obviously synthetic. What do you dislike about this character?: Worried he might be snowflaky/unrealistic. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He's professional, and knows his job, and some of the basic elements of other Research jobs as well. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 3/5, sometimes fuck up, room for improvement, but I think I understand most of the fundamentals. Generally when I goof up now, it's because I misunderstood some particular intent behind a specific rule, or misinterpreted a situation. Extra notes:
  4. TGMiner outfit. It's just so goddamned cool.
  5. I think the best solution is to make it canon that radio displays the speaker's name, or TTS reads out who's saying what. Nothing needs to change, and there's a reason people know who says what.
  6. I see a lot of positive feedback here. And I agree with most if not all of it. So I'm going to give some negative feedback: Cassy Hendricks is not a good Botanist. She's fun to interact with, yes, and will often grow some plants. But she usually gives up after about 10-15 minutes or so, and doesn't grow a very large variety. While I understand this is probably because you've long since gotten bored of the role itself, and would rather go RP, I would suggest simply going assistant. As it is, by going Botanist, you discourage others from doing it, since they think there's already on aboard, but at the same time don't really do the job. Is it an important job? No, but it's still annoying as chef that I can't expect to have anything/much of anything from botany when I see your name on the manifest, beyond maybe 5-10 from 5-7 different plants.
  7. BYOND Key: Lord_Balkara Character name: Billy Moretti Item name: Moretti's Zippo Why is your character carrying said item to work? Billy has a smoking habit, and so will often light up in moments of stress. Or relaxation. Or anytime he has an excuse and isn't in a no smoking zone, really. And often uses a lighter as an additional source of light in the dark. Item function(s): A normal zippo, I suppose. Item description: A dark zippo with a cool blue flame. Nice. Item appearance: How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? It's a bit of memorabillya(heh) from his past, and given it's obviously visibly different nature, people will be likely to notice it, and ask about it, leading to questions about who he is and where he came from. Additional comments: If the text for using it could be edited to say "Moretti's Zippo" instead of "the Zippo", so people are more likely to notice it, that'd be nice. In addition, though I don't know how possible this is, if the light it gives off could be blue-shifted to fit the flame's color, that'd also be neat, and mean it's more likely to be noticed. I'm not saying give it a glaringly blue light that blinds everyone in the vicinity, just blue enough to be noticed.
  8. A lot of suggestions are made to replace cloning with defibs, or that defibs would be just as bad/worse than cloning, and so we have to have cloning. But why not have both? Make it so defibbing someone who died will bring them back with just under lethal damage, and stabilize them for long enough for medical to do whatever. Or even do it like Bay, where you have to repair before defibbing. However, should the body be dead for 10 minutes or longer(Or be a husk, since husks are generally accepted to be really fucked), it cannot be defibbed. And if you do it the first way, then add a 15 minute cooldown or something to stop a body from being defibbed repeatedly. And so, if a body has been dead to long, you either clone, or do whatever records say. Pros: +People don't have to not tick DNC in order to rejoin the round without having to deal with cloning +Cloning would have more weight, and be more of a last resort type deal +Medical has a reason to be so gung ho about getting to bodies +Bodies are less likely to sit in a crime scene while waiting for FT to get there, since getting them to medbay quickly is more important Cons: -A lot of coding/porting -Antags would be more likely to take steps to prevent body recovery, since if someone's defibbed they would probably still remember who/what done got them -Death might be seen as an even more minor inconvienience -Chance people might find a way to abuse it somehow -FTs might get to do less autopsies, and crime scenes may become more corrupted
  9. One of the biggest conflicts in Medical seems to be how patients should be handled. Perhaps a Faction who thinks patients should be denied treatment unless they pay/were injured due to something unavoidable, and a Faction that thinks patient care comes before station profit, and so, for example, would see cloning bodies as more important than a crime scene remaining intact for the FT. And of course a middle faction for the less extreme. As for Engineering, a big conflict seems to be when there's not enough equipment for everyone, so maybe some Engineers who feel that equipment should not be carried with you unless you know you need it, others who feel engineers should ensure they have enough to do anything on them at all times, and that engineers should order stuff from cargo if they don't have it. So then you have Group A getting mad at Group B for having all the equipment, and getting madder when Group B says "Go buy it", Group B being mad at engineers for not having deployables or Glass+Steel on them at all times. Really though, I think the best option for a "factions" system would just be to use already existing factions, and have people act based on which they belong to.
  10. While I realize it is a mining and research facility, I feel like the factions are heavily orientated towards Mining, Research, and the Heads. Thing is, how will this involve Medical? What about Engineering? What about Service? In most cases, it seems like this will involve 2, maybe 3 departments if Security needs to get involved. And how will people be expected to act? In most cases, this seems like it will just result in some people arguing over whether robotics or RnD should get more materials, or people yelling at cargo for shipping things that aren't phoron and platinum, since they get 0 funds from doing so. The first thing is something that already happens to an extent, and the second is just going to mean Cargo Techs wasting materials for 0 funds, or gain of any kind. As for the Heads thing, speciesists are already a thing. ATLAS is arguably a designated faction for not liking Xenos. I don't see why we need to make one.
  11. It's a bit silly that the chaplain can wave his bible over a fire extinguisher, and the fire extinguisher won't extinguish fires, or kill slimes, any more. I looked at the code, and while I don't know how to code and might be wrong, I think it's possible to atleast apply the fire extinguishing and slime-killing effects to holy water. It would also be nice if other effects, such as being able to water plants, were applied as well, but if they can't be, that's fine.
  12. I feel kind of bad, since this is probably the only suggestion I've ever actually put work into, but I think I'll rescind this. Go ahead and lock it down, or whatever.
  13. +1, assuming they don't replace anything.
  14. Recently, Phoron gas was changed to purple, to fit the solid and liquid forms. However, the canisters are still orange, much like the gas used to be. I think that they should be changed to purple, to fit the gas that they contain. Examples:
  15. Why does it need to replace anything?
  16. I think the fact that a field that likely represents such a broad range of study as "Xenobiology" has become as dull and basic as "Care for some slimes who will never vary and always do the same thing." is a bit of a shame.
  17. This would be great. See a Dionae with flowers, moss, leaves, mushrooms, etc just strolling about.
  18. Thing is, I've often ahelped something only to be ignored, because there wasn't many staff on, and they were occupied with something else. Sometimes they'll even just ask that I deal with it ICly since, after all, incompetence is often more of an IC issue than an OOC one. But dealing with something like that ICly is best done with an IAA, or a Captain, or a HoS, which aren't always on, and that they not be too busy to deal with it. I could try making an Incident Report later, but often the people who would be gotten after have long since left, or moved on to other things. There's a difference between something that allows someone to log on once, never log on again for a week, and then log on and immediately go Warden. And something that requires you play 3 rounds of Cadet before you play any other Security role. Even the wiki page for Security Officer says that you should have served a cadetship (Or have 2+ years in some other law inforcement). Its not 2 weeks. Its just playing 3 rounds of a less intense Security Role so you can learn the ropes before you decide its reasonable to ask someone to stop and then taser them when they don't, simply because you've played sec before on other servers, and that was fine there. Hell, I'm not even going to die on the hill of 3 rounds. Even if it was just 1 round. I just want more of an obstacle to people who would otherwise pop in as any role they like because a week ago they logged in once, got bored, and logged out to play somewhere else. I use that example of logging out and logging back in because its something I myself did when I was still new, and it annoyed everyone around me. If I'd had to play Cadet before hopping in an integral role, I might've decided to keep playing Cadet, and thus learn how Security actually works, before playing Warden and getting yelled at by Rifler because I didn't know I was meant to do an inventory.
  19. Ckey/BYOND Username:Lord_Balkara Position Being Applied For: Wiki Maintainer Past Experiences/Knowledge: I think I've got a decent enough knowledge of formatting to do this, and what I don't know I can always look up. Examples of Past Work: To be completely frank, I don't have much of any past work as someone who maintains a wiki. Additional Comments: The main reason I'm making this app is because of a lot of minor issues and inconsistencies I've noticed in some places on the wiki, and I would like to have the needed permissions to address them. The one that really made me decide to make this application was that the summary of the overall lore still says the year is 2459, yet it is now 2460. This is a really minor problem, and I would feel almost guilty for asking someone else to change it, so if I myself could fix minor inconsistencies like that myself, that would be great. I don't have any grand plans really, except maybe making adjustments to a few pages here or there to make them less LRP-y. I just want to be able to improve the overall quality of the wiki.
  20. I think it got changed so it only works on corpses now.
  21. I like the idea of this. Make it so you can set a reagent as an allergy, and that coming in contact with it causes one of the viral symptoms until you are given an immunosuppresant of some kind.
  22. Everything except for the AI examine has been added, I think.
  23. Much like how thermal googles tint your vision red, and Mesons green, I propose that sunglasses tint it darker. It would be a minor change, but one that might make people less inclined to walk around wearing sunglasses 24-7, as it might make spotting things in the dark somewhat more difficult, and just generally be annoying. Plus it would make for a nice small bit of fluff.
