unathi [Accepted] Jasorn Unathi Whitelist Application
Jasorn replied to Jasorn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Yes, I intend for them to work for Orion, most likely a role as an assistant with an alt-title. Perhaps even a hangar technician or miner eventually then from there figure out what makes sense after playing for a while. Yes and no. Obviously he will not be in security, but his skills may prove useful in working a job such as a Shaft Miner in the future. As he is just arriving on the ship he isn't going to jump straight into a career of combat, especially because of Guwan status. If not, he IS entering the later half of his life and it might just be that he has to retire these warrior skills and settle for something simpler. He feels very tied to Sk'akh church despite his rough life and removal from the Hegemony, and has always held a positive feeling towards it throughout his life. Growing up he anticipated to join the army just like his father, and would die defending his clan if it was necessary. As for the punishment he does believe it was deserved, if not harsh enough. It was an act of survival but after finding out the consequences he was devasted. Yes, this is very much a question he has no closure for yet. He very much would like to find out the timeline of events after the bombing and try to find the remains (if any) of his clan there are. Hopefully something to explore while playing the character in-game. -
BYOND Ckey: Jasorn Discord username: Jasorn Character names: Leo Barnes Stacy Keeley CH-3FFFFFF Daniel Hayes Jackson Fernand Erik Russell Species you are applying to play: Unathi ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Guzari Night: RGB 61, 47, 47: Hex #3D2F2F Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes, probably not all of them, but a lot. Why do you wish to play this species?: Ever since visiting Moghes for the event arcs in 2024 I always had a blast playing ghost roles on the planet, interacting with other ghost roles or crew that happened to land. I found it a breath of fresh air from the usual human playstyle I'm used to. Something I've been wanting to get myself back into playing more rounds is the draw of something new. I've been playing human for the vast majority of my time on Aurora, only in the last year have I played IPC, but arguably they aren't too far off to play than just a human. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Other than being non-mammal, they drastically vary from human culture. Gender specific roles and sexism, naming conventions different where last names are very preferred and are clan related instead of just family. They have a very pronounced aspect of nobility as well as religious following. Since humans are the dominiant race in the setting, it's also just a different way to roleplay as they get subjected to more hatred and negative bias in general. I find their history with the Contact War and how suddenly they were slingshotted into the modern era from their somewhat "medieval-like" lifestyle and technology. I always loved watching media where a person or group is brought into the future to discover a wildly different culture/atmosphere/technology/etc and think this is one of the unique aspect that this species has compared to others. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Szekan'kavum Guwan Write a backstory for your character: Born in 2431, adhering to the Sk'akh faith and only eight years old when the Contact War entered it's nuclear stage, Szekan'kavum Visimar was living on Moghes in the Izweski city of Da'ha'den. His parents were either living at home raising his siblings, or otherwise fighting for the Izweski army as his father mainly did. The Visimar clan was a tight knit group that focused on growing the finest warriors for the Izweski army. Most males sought to be the newest recruits, while the females did their best to provide for the trainers and trainees. The Visimar clan held a high reputation for producing excellent warriors, so normal training grounds were typically full most days. Szekan'kavum happened to be outside the city, somewhat far, to train in melee combat just like his father. During this training with his mentor, Grek'kel Visimar, they witness the bombs devastate their home city in the blink of an eye, causing them both to flee into the wild (soon to be wastelands). Many years pass, Szekan'kavum finds himself alone struggling to survive in the wastelands. He is now eighteen years old, it is 2449, barely strugging to stay alive the last decade, praying to Sk'akh every night hoping this nightmare would come to a balance, as everything always does. He has ran into other travellers of the wastes throughout the time, learned some helpful life skills throughout, some good but mostly evil tactics to get by. Eventually Szekan'kavum found himself in Camp Integrity, due to its former Izweski nature he was drawn to it instantly for a new home. The decade spent in the wastes mostly alone took a heavy toll on his ability to live in a society again. Constantly getting into fights with others around him, or sometimes even with the guards. Szekan'kavum was unable to fit in, and had to resort to stealing food and medicine from a local home. He managed to do it, but unfortunately when he was back in his shack about to eat a meal, guards barged in and arrested him. He was considered Guwan for the stealing of food and medicine that lead to the death of a hatchling that would've lived otherwise. He was promptly exiled from the camp and to never return. It is now 2467, finding this wasteland uninhabitable and sick of living day to day on scraps, but still holding true to his faith to Sk'akh, Szekan'kavum traveled to the nearest light he could find, hoping. What he found was a settlement many kilometers away that supported a large enough landing pad for a megacorporate ship to land on and recruit. Without anywhere else to go in his mind, Szekan'kavum Guwan met with the recruiter and signed himself to space and beyond. Spending months on various space stations, and space ships such as freighters or Orion Express transports, travelling throughout the spur towards Biesel and beyond. Eventually he found himself aboard the Horizon abliet a very low position, he will find out how he accustomes to an even more alien environment than before, but at least this one is habitable and there's plenty of friendly(?) faces to meet. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. Because of the background of Szekan'kavum, there isn't much to be impacted to his character. His whole life has been on Moghes up until the recent months. None of the listed events would have any effect on him. The only thing notable that would maybe affect his character is witnessing the Horizon orbit Moghes a year prior during the New Blades, Old Wounds, unware of what was going on. Perhaps seeing shuttles rapidly enter and exit the planet with distant flashes would spark a curiousity about what was even going on. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Szekan'kavum remains hopeful about this unknown future. However the contracts he had to sign make him concerned about how the megacorporations operate. He wonders if the way he is selling his life away to work is better than his earlier life. He figures the compensation, little as it is, is better than praying each day to survive. Overall he is looking forward to corporate work, but is very reserved still about the unknown workings of it.

Will this include expanding the amount of notice boards on the map? After interacting with the one in engineering I flew around as a ghost to see if any others had papers attached, but was basically unable to find anymore for other departments. There's the ops one, xenoarch one (legacy as it spawns with preset made up papers), and some in the public bridge area. Would love to see at least one per department

I like all these ideas, especially the more complicated money tracking. I find people never value their money and will tip crazy amounts or spend their entire savings on an item, this would actually give value to that. As for everything else like grim and leftover notes etc. I think it's another gameplay mechanic that could be fun, as well as RP. You could arrive on the shift and find your department a little dirty and cluttered and spend some time clearing it up, while at the same time bantering with your coworkers about how last shift did a bad job closing up. (This part is very real if you've ever worked opening/closing shifts my god)

Not to be that guy, but why does this even matter..? One could argue why the change mattered in the first place, but still. This is a named NPC in an area that essentially doesn't exist. No one will ever see the name change nor care. There's other random NPCs like Penny the cat or some other crazy Exosuits with names for some reason.

BYOND key: Jasorn Discord name/id: Jasorn / 196154126571143168 Borg / AI names: LOCK (Localized Operating Command Kernal) Have you read the Aurora wiki page about the AI?: Yes Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I love playing robotic type species. I spend a lot of my time just observing rounds, which seems like what AI gameplay is, and I think it would be fun to play a side role that exists in the round to help facilitate roleplay scenarios. I've watched many great AI players over the years I've been on the server and want to try my hand at it. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Yes, warning for bad antag behavior. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes

Bring back CMO in the pharmacy
Jasorn replied to DekserBecauseILostMyAccoun's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
Can you try to elaborate what you're looking for, because I do not understand? Do you want CMOs to be able to do everything? People play pharmacist, a lot. People play CMO as pharmacist, a lot too. I do not know what the whole "this leads to players dying needlessly and being removed from the round when they could have been saved." means? Plenty of medical players do a great job with the standard equipment -
Something like this please, another solution I was thinking of is to rebalance (fix?) mechs because as they are right now without a PEAC or EMP it feels like they are basically invincible to any weapon, especially fighting simple mobs with them lol

Uhhh because it's one of the only box that has "max_storage_space = DEFAULT_LARGEBOX_STORAGE"? Yes you can cram big stuff into the normal boxes yeah which I find weird as well. But the sharps box holding 50% more ontop of just not making sense as to why it should hold so much in the first place is why I was willing to limit it to small things

I'll just post here since I was the one that noticed it being abused, yes it's easier to just not break the rules and use the item as intended.. but also it just doesn't make much sense you can shove a whole medbay worth of supplies into the thing, seems like an oversight. Some things you can't ever mechanically stop rulebreakers from using, like a crowbar to bash a random guys head in, that's where mods come in. It's a simple fix I put up a bug report for, and I might fix it myself when I feel like it.

Restricting the Expeditionary Channel (just a little bit)
Jasorn replied to Stripes's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
Yeah just default it off, the headache part was 90% of the crew saying "uhh whats the frequency again..?" As for mining, in my experience people would just pick some random frequency to use, but generally everyone agreed to use the expedition one for the fancy color and consistency between rounds. Picking a random frequency is still an option miners can agree on, that or just talk in operations radio and annoy the hangar techs and machinists lol -
I will say your activity on the server has been very good, and have good interactions with the community and in-game roleplay. Looking at your experience and GitHub I think it's worth a +1 on this app to get another dev on the server. I can't speak for the dev/staff team and how you'll fit in there since that's not my place, but I think it's definitely worth a serious consideration to help lighten the load with big projects or fixing of issues. I hope your app goes well!

I'll throw my hat in the ring as a mining main, the amount of deaths I've witnessed from only fractured feet/legs is pretty sad. I've had talks with people that play mining or medical whats better, some have said allow splinting on voidsuits, but I think the root cause is just how quickly you get put into heart failure from seemingly a minor injury. I agree there needs to be a cap per injury on the pain, as stated above if you're broken bones across the board sure, but one without any other ailments should have a cap.

True, and I agree with the open air between decks causing massive issues. The amount of times the Intrepid has landed with terrible atmos, and one (1) airlock opens to the north and now the entire hangar, room outside EVA and lifts, central ring deck 2 AND 3 are flooded with the bad atmos. So more lockers would be good I'm not sure how viable it is to add 69 of them without a ton of clutter Edit: forgot the hangar area was changed so now its two airlocks between the Intrepid but still

I assumed that's what the emergency survival box you spawn with is for, if you can't reach safety instantly you throw the mask and tank on

Reimplement options to lock icon scaling at 32x32/64x64/etc.
Jasorn replied to Carver's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
I don't use it myself since my 1440p monitor doesn't play well with it, however basically everyone I've ever talked to on a 1080p monitor hates this change from months ago, their game is now blurry for seemingly no reason, bring it back
