1. I've seen Zachary about quite a bit, big fan of the guy! A very believable character and I like the fact that they're a bit older as well. Makes them pretty suitable for a position such as Chief Engineer. I get that the whole not wanting to deal with idiots thing could be a bit of a problem, but nobody likes idiots. From what I've seen, Zachary seems like the kind of person who would teach someone who was new to the game, assuming they were willing to learn and weren't a moron in a memey sense. So I reckon Zachary would be a good fit for command. Good luck bub!
2. Maybe an open-palmed strike instead of a punch? I like the idea.
3. Heyo, I've got a little screenshot of my hotkeys here that are assuming you're using hotkey mode. So for example, with this setup, you can open up your clothes in the bottom left without having to click there. It's a toggleable option, so pressing shift + B will open/close your clothes depending. Shift + T will open up your drop pouches and so on. Ctrl + 5 will straight up close whatever you have open (like your bag, for example). V can lock closets, and you can stick another hotkey on toggle-open, if you want to. For people who don't know, you can also macro emotes and common sayings (Shift + M for me tilts her head, for example). As far as I can tell, you can put some pretty cool macros into your command bar, so have a play around and see what you can come up with! edit: I just saw there was another guide about four posts below this, but that one relies on mouse hotkeys and doesn't include a neat little setup image like this one to copy, so
4. I think this is really needed! IC'ly I got in a lot of trouble for cloning someone and treating their mental trauma, and as far as I knew, you could ic'ly have your medical license revoked for doing so. (it's not that round, Resilynn!) so as a result, I've been telling people to not clone without an active psychiatrist or else they could have their license revoked and such. Without clear guidelines, for now, I'm going to start getting people cloned and then just try and fix whatever they have through surgery straight away or prescribing them risperidone in 1u pills, because not being able to put people back in the game sucks. I think doctors should be able to prescribe medication, as a note, like they can in real life. The question is though, even with medication to suppress the memes, should they be allowed to return back to work if a psychiatrist is not able to evaluate them? Should medical/whoever cloned them be held responsible if the player decides to go full schizo because of the red messages and start attacking people, etc. Or should they just be bwoinked instead by staff? Also, if we could, having mental traumas listed as a separate category like surgery and stuff would be useful. Having to go into job guides like we do at the minute, assuming medical doctors are going to treat them, is a bit arduous.
5. these are friggen awesome. Nice work bubber
6. It seems to be a ghetto surgery option that people could choose to use over Nanopaste due to Nanopastes' scarcity. It's not the normal way to do the surgery, but it can be done that way. That makes sense! Not IC'ly, at least. But it explains it. Thanks <3
7. Apparently someone said that the surgery for repairing prosthetic eyes needs bonegel instead of nanopaste...? I haven't had the chance to test it myself but I thought it'd be worth bringing up.
8. All for adding new things to mining, and this doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to implement. But as a note, can't miners already get a brute trauma kit as a purchase option?
9. Big fan of Rylan and their player. They're great at RP. I'd give a competent overview of the backstory but I'm knackered. I will say that I really like it though, and that your idea for playing as a more approachable member of security is refreshing. Also, the answers given to the questions in this thread are also really good. All in all, you definitely get my endorsement. Best of luck!
10. Trazz' characters have a tendency to be a little rebellious, as they pointed out. So admittedly, they wouldn't make the greatest of heads. But this whitelist isn't for them, right? I haven't seen much of Ob-Servo, but I really like the backstory and the few times I've managed to see them in game, I've been a fan. I really like Uttaz, which is another character that I think Trazz plays really well. So that being said, I think it's clear that Trazz can play a large variety of different characters and play them well. I'd like to see them as a head of staff. Good luck!
11. Tried it, didn't work That's more or less what I'm suggesting to be able to do, Pirate President!
12. This is legit awesome, super impressed. Nice work!
13. The other day I was playing whilst handcuffed, and I couldn't stand for more than a few seconds, meaning that the resist timer was reset every time I collapsed. Is it possible to add the ability to be able to resist out whilst laying down, so that you don't have to stay stood up and run the risk of the timer being reset due to collapsing?
14. Hey'o. I asked Nursie if they were cool with me making this and they said go ahead, but after the round. True, I actually had no idea why the emitter was there, which I brought up in my original post. It isn't something that we would've had any chance to set up with a ninja, cyborgs and a broke Harmony hanging around though, but I do get where you're coming from with this. You did drag me back to the AI core with active lasers twice, yeah (again with no conversation), so both times I pulled back at a snails pace for obvious reasons; I couldn't outrun you after being left-clicked in the legs so many times at that point. I do kind of get where you're coming from, but at the same time when I'm sat there clearly attempting to give a bit of roleplay instead of flashing you and smacking you in with a welder, I would've appreciated a bit of reciprocation, if that makes sense? I think I talked to Cadmus for about three minutes during that round, and that was when I whaltzed into the engine room before even knowing it was there, so it wasn't so much the empathy thing. Perhaps I was being a bit naive from an OOC perspective, assuming that you would stop when I was clearly making no attempts to attack back. It's just that, that's the one thing that really bothered me here. Being subdued in the core, surrounded by cyborgs and inactive lasers, and that the potential for a nice bit of RP with a broken AI that is about to turn me into a cyborg was completely lost, since you just kept left-clicking me. Even after I was quite clearly unable to move away any more. You kept on smacking me once I was well and truly into the core (after Harmony had turned the lasers off). That's what my issue is. Your other points about not wanting us to escape etc. are as valid as they can be I guess, but I was so far into crit that I was about one or two hits away from being dead. Don't wrenches only do about 5 brute or something? I was only shot with a laser once, so that's a lot of extra, IMO, unnecessary clicks. It's not so much about offense, I don't think. I reckon you'd have to be pretty immature to be upset at something like that. It's more so the idea that a NanoTrasen-sanctioned cyborg is slinging those words around. Why would anyone buy a cyborg that talks like that? I get where you're going with this, but I've seen this behavior multiple times when you've not been rogue and when observing. I wasn't going to bring it up until a few other people mentioned it throughout various rounds as well, so it seems I'm not alone in the sentiment. I appreciate the reply, and thank you for trying to address my points. Hopefully you can see where I'm coming from in this situation and why I think what you did was a bit unnecessary and ruined what could've been a fun, RP-filled crescendo?
15. BYOND Key: cloud_motion Game ID: bUL-dp0I Player Byond Key: Veradox Staff involved: Nursiekitty Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes, they deemed it acceptable. Approximate Date/Time: Round went on from midnight until about 1:45am GMT, 09 June Reason for complaint: So the whole round was a bit of a mess, but I was still having fun doing RP's, yadi-yada. At some point, me and Khalid follow Nathan Corvo down to the AI core where Harmony (Tailson's AI) is obviously located, to talk to her and see what was going off. There was an emitter there for some reason, I'm guessing to try and shoot her. But it was unsecured and would've been pretty difficult to get setup in an area surrounded by borgs, a ninja, and a malf AI. So whilst we're down there, we walk into the core and the lasers start shooting at us, me and Khalid nope straight out of there and back into the lift. The doors are already bolted so there's nowhere we can go. Khalid has a ladder but can't really set it up considering some security borg could flash us easily enough. So whilst I'm partway through talking to Cadmus and trying to get in touch with Harmony about why Nathan just died, Cadmus just comes up to me and starts battering me with a wrench. That's all there was to it. Just... battered me with a wrench. https://puu.sh/ABIaB/21360f8b65.png So I was talking and doing emotes and the usual stuff about cowering in a corner, begging him to stop etc. when he just continues. There's no real way we could've escaped. So next we were put through the borging machine, which could've been really fun, assuming I was forced in there through, say... I don't know, the security borg with handcuffs and allowed to RP with Harmony through some existential chats before being shoved into the borginator 12000. Instead I was just beaten into crit, whilst typing and not actually attacking or doing much of anything beyond trying to get an emote out. All the while Veradox is just left clicking me. Yeah, you can probably argue what was I doing down there in the first place? I knew I was probably going to die, but my character likes and trusts Harmony so I took her down there anyway. I was expecting to be killed but not in the way Veradox did it. The whole situation felt pretty similar to flashrev on low-rp servers. So I ahelped Nursie who summed it up as being acceptable because: "the round has escalated to such a point where, icly and oocly, it would make sense for even more people to start dropping off." Personally, I think that was a pretty poor response and isn't really in the spirit of the server. I'm not too fussed about how Nursie handled it because the round was understandably a clusterfuck from an admin perspective, so I sort of understand their response. But at the same time, it just felt like the easy route to take, and to me it translates to: 'The station is code red and busy so RP can be excluded'. Maybe I'm being a bit myopic, but I just don't think that's what the server's about. Hence why I'm making this complaint. Another little side-note is how Veradox plays their cyborg. It called the ai a 'greasy-cum rag', and in other rounds, it always seems to have a bit of an off personality, unbefitting of a cyborg. They walk around calling people autistic, retards and swear like a sailor. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but why would NanoTrasen employ a cyborg that walks around telling its crew they're 'autistic fucking retards'? I want to reiterate that I'm not at all bothered about being turned into a borgie; they're fun. It was the manner in which he did it. It was honestly just crap RP from their player and not something I'd expect from Aurora.
16. I have a ton of hotkeys set up already, how did I not realize this! Thanks for the little giffy as well, much appreciated.
17. Would this be possible? Ctrl+wasd already works. Having to press ALT and reaching to the arrow keys isn't the best. Unless it's possible and I'm an idiot?
18. I agree with Resilynn, I think a method of bringing people back shortly after death under the right circumstances (i.e. they haven't lost enough blood to be un-revivable, they aren't missing their head, they don't have huge amounts of brain damage) such as oxyloss due to loss of consciousness. As cloning stands, right now especially, it is borderline meme with the way that certain disorders work (tourettes, anyone?) and the majority of players who are on regularly have DNC in their records. From a gameplay perspective, it allows people to be put instantly back into the round, but from an RP perspective, especially in hectic situations, it generally boils down to: you died here are your things. Having the ability to resuscitate people would negate some of the punishment of dying and being taken out of the round, assuming your body isn't a shrapnel-riddled piece of garbage, whilst still maintaining some sense of believability and potentially adding more to RP than just, "You're a clone". Yes, arguably, the situation shouldn't boil down to how it does above, but it generally does due to time constraints, busy round, players active in certain roles etcetera. Though I think that Kyres' suggestion is a bit less heavy-handed, I'd personally support a complete removal of cloning.
19. Seen Camila around and they seemed like a very good character capable of behaving realistically, and their emotes were great as well. Can't speak for the others but I'm sure Chen can handle a cat whitelist! Good luck
20. Thanks for the links, it's a shame they didn't get any traction, aside from the second one which is a bit of a bad solution imo. I don't wanna digress too much about coolant types etc. but having phoron in there alongside nitrogen wouldn't be too much of a stretch would it? There's plenty of room. I understand what you're saying with regards to the complexity, but like you said, when you're new. The engine is probably pretty tough to get when you're new as well. Still, considering the surprising amount of push back for a pretty dead job slot that gets broken into the majority of the time anyway, how do you guys feel about sticking phoron cans into the engine room?
21. If you're talking about understanding atmospheric differences etc. I don't think that's complex enough to justify a separate position with separate access, especially considering that most random atmos techies that join don't understand all that stuff anyway. But if we're talking about the main portion of atmospherics, how is it any different to the engine room, or solars? Electricians still have access to the engine room, as do maintenance technicians. I just don't see any benefit to having something that people have to break into so often locked behind a separate role. I get what you're saying about having a lack of unique job slots, but I don't think arbitrarily assigning a potentially crucial, and more often than not untouched, aspect of engineering behind a dead job slot in order to bump up the numbers is the solution. I get what you're saying about engineers knowing too much, but then where do we start to draw the line between what they should and shouldn't know? Are we basing their access and knowledge entirely on their job title, as opposed to any kind of specialization? At that point, I think we'd need a rework of engineering entirely, which is a pretty big undertaking and realistically isn't going to happen.
22. The vast majority of engineers I see seem capable of doing atmospherics work, and if we're talking about the main atmospherics loop, the alt-title makes that slight distinction well enough imo. Apprentices probably shouldn't have access to there. But if it's a case of atmos grief, if someone wants to get in there it's a matter of pulsing the door, and iirc admins get logs to do with any major changes in there anyway? But if this is more of an OOC issue of knowing too much, etc. then perhaps we should just change that? Something like an engineer knowing surgery is understandable, but supposedly not knowing how to wrench in a pipe doesn't make sense to me.
23. Hey, soo. As things stand right now, the basic outline for setting up the engine is to break into atmospherics, haul two cans of phoron to the engine room, and set the filters to phoron instead of nitrogen. Currently, the engine setup assumes that Nitrogen will be used as standard, but literally nobody uses it. I'm not even sure if it can power our map stably for a full round. There's the IC argument that phoron is expensive and NanoTrasen may not want to use it on the engine, but my counterargument is that if something as expensive and critical to station operations as the engine wasn't using top-notch coolant, then something is wrong. Another tidbit is that Atmospheric Technician is such a sparsely populated role (I don't know of any people who play it regularly, I haven't seen one in the last week) that it should just be merged into the Station Engineer slot as a sub-heading, like Electrician, or Maintenance Technician. This sort of coincides with the above fact that people have to hack into there all the time anyway, so they may as well have the access to boot. IC'ly speaking, any decently trained engineer knows how to pressurize a room and how to lay pipes. Engineers even have access to a pipe dispenser that doesn't require Atmospherics access down in the sublevel break room storage. As it stands right now, Atmospheric Technician is such a niche role that just doesn't have enough merits, in my opinion, to warrant their own access (and lack thereof) and justify an entirely separate role. So my proposal is this: Remove the 4 nitrogen canisters in the engine room, and replace them with phoron, also setting the filters to phoron by default, and to add the two extra job slots from Atmos to Engineering, with appropriate alt-titles.
24. This! I don't get the logic of them not being 'needed', technically speaking pretty much anything useful or fun that R&D can make or any other neat upgrades also aren't needed. Incision Management System? Useful; not needed. New scalpels? Same thing. Guns for security? They already have some. Better computer parts? The default ones already work. The list goes on.
