Re-enabling IPCs to be allowed into the Cult with changes.
LanceLynxx replied to Chada1's topic in Archive
Still irrelevant That does not invalidate the point that the concept IS real and it is a REAL thing. Just because it's in its infancy, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Which heavily implies many have Utilons not defined by their creators. This is valid for a CENTRAL AI level of processing, NOT an IPC. Therefore non applicable. Wrong. The AI works within a set of rules and boundaries. It cannot handwave away rules to do whatever it wants. You know what we call that? Malf AI. And that's how it works for any race. You're not gonna have a Tajara speaking in first person just because a person wants to, because that's breaking the rules and boundaries of the race in the lore, thus, poor role play. Furthermore, "sapient" and "sentient" are not interchangeable. I'm saying that IPCs should act withing the constrain of their lore. How is that wrong? And programming cannot "subconsciously change" unless that's just a handwavium. Your points thus far have been all pretty much invalid. -

1- You said I was wrong a few times, without addressing the arguement at hand, sometimes just flat-out ignoring the logic, facts, and sources presented. 2- Good thing it is in development. How is this relevant? The last edit was October 2017. That's pretty recent. 3-Artificial brains are something very real (see: neural networks, machine learning, DARPA SyNAPSE Program, among others), the only "sci-fi" part of it is the maturity of the tech that we have in our lore, otherwise, the concept is not only possible in theory, it is being done in practice, albeit in initial stages. 4-They cannot form a 100% different personality. I quoted directly from the wiki, again 5-Logical analysis is used for problem-solving and task-handling. NOT for questioning their artificial morality, since, again, they cannot change the utilon values assigned upon their construction. 6-They are sapient, I agree. But that is not equal to sentient. 7-I'm not acting like "robotic IPC is the norm". Just looking for consistency in IPC lore and not handwaving "each player decides whatever", just like it is with other races. You have a lore to fit into, it's not just "muh human robot with soul because ghosts". 8-IPC coding cannot be decided by the IPC itself, that's an egregious statement. But I agree that they can perform their own decision-making, within their spectre of utilons, machine-learning processes, programming, etcetera. -

Allow me to make a quick analogy IPCs are positronic brains in a chassis. A computer's casing. Positronic Brains are processing units made of machine parts. A computer's CPU. And computer hardware doesn't do anything on its own without programs. An android wouldn't magically create sentience just for being put together. They can form their personality through experience, but it would quite literally be following laws or directives. Otherwise, the personality is pre-programmed. They are not subject to sentience tests, true. That doesn't prove they are sentient. Just means they don't have to run tests. They still only emulate sentience, as per what is written on the wiki. -

erm https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Positronic_Brain#Morality_Core And then I quote the definition of Sentience from Merriam-Webster So therefore, emulating sentient emotions pretty much means that a synthetic can only simulate sentience, since it cannot have feelings nor sensations. Also that has nothing to do with free-thought. Which they also do not possess, since they follow whatever program was designed. As stated previously, they cannot change their utilon values on their own, thus, they cannot change their way of analysing the world around them, in a subjective manner, nor create their own set of goals (unless they are made to ultimately achieve what they were programmed to do, in which case this is "the end justifies the means") -

Lore follows mechanics, true. That can be fixed by removing soul-capturing from IPCs. Ghosts are just out-of-round players. It's an OOC mechanic. EXCEPT FOR: Cult interactions, in which ghosts are actually used as IC mechanics. but that's an antag-round-related thing. Otherwise even pAIs, mice, and drones have souls. IPCs are not sentient. They do not have feelings or experience things subjectively on their own accord, they emulate sentience and use only cause and effect to decide actions, according to the assigned utilon values. They are pre-programmed, according to their own wiki lore, and cannot change utilon values imprinted on them by the programmer. -

Can you point me to where I can find such information? Wiki states "Ultimately they are robotic in nature" and "The book definition of an android is ‘an automaton designed to mimic human life.’ This is applicable to today’s androids" So what gives? -

Okay, here's the thing, if anyone presents the same arguement ("Changing elements is impossible, that is magic"), I will adress that arguement with the same rebuttal ("It's not magic, we actually already do this IRL, here's more info"). And since it is the same thing being said over and over, the answer is the same. I'm not going to change it just because it is presented again. I have adressed the point clearly and accurately, thus, I will repeat it every time someone uses the flawed "changing materials is magic" arguement. And again It is not alchemy. It is chemistry. Alchemy is purely the way it is explained and the method of experimentation. The underpinning of alchemy is still chemistry. It is purely a difference in presentation. Which is a per-character basis. Each one explains however they want since there is no "chemical lore" for this. If some people roleplay like this (serious alchemy) and it's an issue for you, a suggestions box is not the place to complain about it. Either deal with it ICly or file IR's / char complaints instead. I ICly just laugh it off as some ignorant people who don't know how chemistry really works, and make fun of them. But I digress. Philosopher's Stone requires the presence of a supernatural being on station already. Therefore, in that setting, magic is already real in-lore. Otherwise, we return to the previous point: If you don't like the way a character is acting, either deal ICly or file complaints. That said, the chemicals that don't require magical items could be changed to whatever handwavium chemical-sounding name fits it better, I don't mind that at all. But if we go there, I'd suggest revamping ALL the reagent names to fit into a chemistry-naming-meta. "Space Lube" doesn't really sound like a chemical compound from the IUPAC -

Um Changing elements into others is something we already know how to do. Turning things into gold is a thing. It's just not efficient and cost-effective due to tremendous energy required to do so. (Unless we harnessed fusion power, which we don't) basic overview in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthesis_of_precious_metals#Gold and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_transmutation We have reagents literally called "space lube", "space cleaner" and others...... Never mind all the drink names like "changeling sting" and so forth. those are /reagent/ names. If you wanna fix the entire thing, make drinks show their chemical makeup instead. EDIT: If people just want to change the names of the chems, that's fine. But although this was the stated focus of the topic, I doubt that it was the intention. -

ahem Magic THEMES might have been used, but it was ALWAYS chemistry all along. It wasn’t ever something else. Alchemy IS chemistry, albeit without the scientific method and just using esoteric claims to explain something. For instance Turning lead into gold IS possible. It just takes a LOT of energy to convert the materials. Or a more esoteric one, let’s say Dragon’s Blood, which are some red deposits made from gold and other reagents, and what was depicted in Basil Valentine’s painting “Third Key”. It was really just the discovery of nitric acid hydrochloride, aka “Aqua Regia” or “royal water”. It dissolved gold, and the red deposits were just gold chloride after crystallization. So you see It’s “magical” only in the way you explain it as an ignorant “alchemist”. The science behind it is not magical at all, it is chemistry. Magical “CLAIMS”, thus, unverified and unproven concoctions, are just that, claims. Nothing magical about it, only untrue. -

Uhhhhh liquid fire only ignites in contact with organic matter, it's not "fire in a bottle", it requires an additional material, organic compounds, to ignite. Otherwise we could just spill it on the floor and make a fireplace. Not really an impossible concept. -

You don't need a list of crimes, only need to know if he is someone meant to be behind abrs or not. If sec didn't update the status, it's their fault for , again, not doing their job. -SecHUD is still an arguement. You said "sometimes security doesn't set status". Again. Their own fault for not tracking their own prisoners. It's THEIR issue if they're disorganized. - If there is an *alleged* escaped convict, it's the security team's job as a whole to recapture him. Once again, the SecHUD exists for a reason. They don't need to *know* the crimes commited. Only if he is meant to be in the brig or not. Warden not being present is a non-issue. It's the officer's job to recapture an escaped prisoner if required to do so. Let me put it another way It has never been an issue before Why is it becoming one now? So.... how is this relevant? Just take whoeve is in a suit for questioning, if they got nothing on him, release him, done. -

then you're habitually forcing people on-station to accept that magic and alchemy exists, or to have you fired before you get the chance too, both of which pose even worse problems. You're not forcing anyone to accept magic, only chemical reagents that have a fluff name to them. They are not magic. They are chemistry. And very real. ..unless you are also pro-removal of the chaplain's ability to turn normal water into holy water, use a null rod/athame/staff and other things as well, then? -

It might be just me, but this sounds like an IC issue that you just don’t like someone calling themselves alchemists. While I also do find it silly, it’s not something I’d warrant making drama about. If it legitimately worried you, consider filing complaint paperwork to command in-round, or character complaints/IRs instead. Furthermore, the only difference between alchemy and chemistry is the approach. Alchemy is more like guesswork and not using a scientific method and estsblished rules of physics and chemistry, is not scientific, while chemistry is. Otherwise they’rr the same. Mix A with B to get C. And also, remove chaplain for the same reasons you stated rrgarding it being nystical hoodoo, who needs a Shaman on station? Only people with imaginary friends, send them to the shrink instead. -
I found an issue, maybe Since you published the books as Wynter Steele, even though someone else wrote it, YOU uploaded it, so it is tied to YOUR ckey. that means only YOU can edit it. I just came across the same issue. I wanted to edit some books Sukhoi gave you to publish, but I cannot, since it isn't tied to my CKEY. Thus, you need to have the authors upload their books themselves to workaround the problem. Glad to assist! (So if possible, delete all the books that you uploaded by Sukhoi btw )

Examine while wearing a SecHUD, check his info and status. Bam. Done. NoSecHUD? No problem. You have a console in the Warden's office and Brig Lobby that have prisoner records. Far from brig? You got a handy dandy PDA with very useful functions like Security Records and other neat things. Use it. -Refer to SecHud and PDA arguement -Additionally, if Security doesn't know who or IF they arrested anyone, or if someone they arrested is MISSING, they're not doing their job, are they? - Literally just asking sec to do their job is too hard? Even a CADET can do this. -Prison uniforms still serve their purpose. If someone is using one OUTSIDE, it doesn't deny the point that it still is used to identify convicts. The person is just silly for wearing it. Furthermore, I ahve never encountered someone using the orange jumpsuit anyways, I doubt anyone else has, either. It has never been an issue, why change it? -
0w0 wat's DIS 1) Printer module is in the Proto-Lathe as "Nano-Printer". I think you need to perform a bit of research to unlock it. It isn't on the vendor. Gotta ask R&D. 2) I don't know if adding directly works. But as a general rule, I try to do submitting ICly, then edit if I need to on the WI. Try writing directly on WI, you never know. 3)I believe you might be able to delete books on the WI as well. Glad I could help

1) Who ever said that anyone intended to share anything? There is no intention as it is a per-person/character basis. There are some that want to share. Some that don't. There is no "rule" to this. 2)The information is publicly available, again, there is nothing stopping you from gaining it. There is no "wall" between you and the knowledge. You just want it on a silver platte,r and call THAT "public". 3) Why is this even a valid arguement against secret chems? because they're secret? that's redundant. "I don't like secrets because they're not publicized". Well no shit. Water is wet. -

Reckon you're reading this backwards. The suggestion is in fact to not treat IPC's as people and make the regulations reflect that. Oh my, you are quite right I think I jumbled everything as I read it lmao. I'll leave the post there for archival purposes. Sorry, I did a dumb -

I sure won't, but I can offer you guidance. Point made. What an absolutely loaded question. It does not prove any points since the logic is flawed. The information is there for anyone to acquire. You just have to put time and effort in it. There is nothing keeping you from learning except your own time and effort. And you don't even have to research yourself as a chemist or researcher. Social skills are a thing. I learned about 3 or 4 secret chems as Sukhoi, without ever touching a ChemMaster, and ICly. You're simply being lazy about it. -

Oh no My colleague put more effort in doing his job and now he knows things that I don't and refuses to share!!!!!1111 The audacity of not handing me knowledge on a silver platter after he did all the work himself! I demand all the information, I am entitled to this! One thing does not exclude the other. You can roleplay AND research. Furthermore: One could argue that doing your job as chemist/researcher IS role play. You're doing your job. If you don't like the mechanics of the job, that's another problem entirely. -

-1 IPCs are not living things. They are not comparable to a human, tajara, unathi, etc. They are objects, built by a company, programmed by someone. Murder, kidnapping, assault... These apply to living, organic individuals, not toasters with a big processor. Unless we equal IPCs to organics. In which case, fuck that, time for a civil war. -
Idea is interesting, I would support this. But remove more powerful things. Autoinhalers, dylovene, stimpacks. these are medical supplies, shouldn't be available without doctor's orders. Ointment sounds something would realistically buy from a vendor though, so I'd keep that. everything else, is fine.

meh. if Sec is doing their job, they'll check his file, see if he's wanted or arrested. If he isn't, then it's fine. More of an IC "issue" if someone dons it, don't see a reason to remove it. -

Itt: finding out chems by trial and error is too hard and feelsbadman that others put effort in researching them, but I don’t wanna, pls nerf A lot of science IS trial and error, mind you, a lot of modern day chemicals were accidentaly found, penicillin for instance. Or LSD. Among many other examples of trial, error, or luck. Major -1 , this only makes it even MORE of a meme and removes the reward for discovering them yourself. -
I can see that happen as some sort of "Bio-Organic Bandages" that lorewise would get absorbed into the body after the white blood cells and plaquettes get into them or something. But then how will I roleplay a blue-haired apathetic girl wrapped in bandages who needs to get in the fukken robot if the wussy pilot won't?
