  1. Um w0t Changing the very original and nature of what a WIZARD is, is quite radical. AFAIK, at least, there was never an adaptation of wizard specifically for aurora, so it keeps the same lore from the codebase we branched out of. Following quotations from the Wiki. "The Wizard's Hood, Robes, and Sandals, along with their other variants, all act as magical amplifiers and boost the wizards skills. Certain spells can only be performed with them equipped. If you lose these, it can make your life much harder." Looks like the wizard attire is pretty damn important. "Wizards are unique individuals who have access to powers that defy scientific principles. Most are part of the Space Wizard Federation" At the end of the day it's still a wizard mode, whose lore is pulled straight from traditional wizard concepts. Only in spess instead of a fairytale land. Unless you alter the lore, changing mechanics would create a strange situation in which we cannot explain the game-mode and antag without just saying "it's just a game"
  2. when people ready up, it means they are ready to play. Not that they are ready to play a specific mode. Voting is for deciding the game mode to be selected. If people don't want to play the mode, they are free to unready. No one has any obligation of playing a round they don't want. Being ready =/= voting
  3. It’s a fucking wizard Unless you want to change wizard into something else and change the lore completely,, wizards will inevitably be out of place. Especially in a scifi setting in a science and mining research station. Imagine a wizard in Dead Space. Yeah. Also luchador mask would be even more lrp than a wizard outfit IMO.
  4. I don't see the point in removing secret chemicals. It has nothing to do with elitism, and more with you doing actual research. This strikes me as "I can't do it so I want it easier". Secret chems are something that requires some player effort and thought processes, just like actual research, not just replaying the same mechanics, much like other jobs that are seen as "too hard/elitist" like telescience, telecomms setup, NTSL scripts, circuitry, viro, and perhaps xenobio. So.. Let's say someone put effort in and found secret chems. I don't understand why they are obligated to share. It's up to you to find a way to make them talk. Befriend them. Spy on them. Bribe them. Find a way just like you would IRl. If they don't, well, how about you put on mask and goggles and figure out yourself? Much the same way I never share exactly how I make some circuits, or how telescience is in it's exact nature. And when I do give a little information, it's not the entire map to the goldmine (I have yet to see anyone make a copy of my man-saver implant, for instance, even though I've already handed out the parts required; I've made a rudimentary telescience guide which is in the wiki, which explains how it works but only roughly) I really don't see what is the issue here. Going back to my first paragraph, it just seems like "too hard pls nerf", instead of making the effort, you want the bar lowered. a solid -1 from me, if I can even vote on this
  5. Beep boop, book nerd here. I have my little tricks for better book publishing and editing. First, write the general outline of the book using a laptop. Make sure you bought the printer module or ask R&D to make you a nano-printer in the protolathe. Then, open the laptop, then create a new data file in it Format as you would in game using the laptop content and print it If it still doesn't fit, publish it as a book anyways, THEN: Open the Web Interface at https://byond.aurorastation.org/login Then on the User tab, select Library Find your book there. Edit it there. Then save. Ez pz.
  6. Well On a CM: It has its risks, and I don't really see a problem at how things are run now (public forum posts, suggestions), seems like concentrating a lot of power into a single position that can make or break a community. ERP: I think people are blowing (see what I did there) it out of proportion.. It's not like things will become sodom and gomorrah if ERP is allowed, same way we aren't going out in shootouts or toolboxing brawls just because we got easy access to guns and tools. It's still HRP, it is expected to be believable and fitting to a character's actions. You don't stop midshift to suck off someone and risk your job over it, or start an orgy in the holodeck with Ian and Pun Pun. Sex (flirting and everything else) is a very strong drive in almost all living beings, I don't see why shunt it just because it can be awkward. I mean, start acting like someone from an offenders list and you'll probably be charged with neglect of duty or similar, rack those up and you're getting a nice visit from CCIA and whatnot. I bet station journalists would have some fun catching people as well.... haha. Although then you'd have to see how privacy laws come in place. So yeah, seems fine. Time and place for everything. Vox: Ehhh, I don't really see how vox would fit in the station. Aren't they some outliers of space society that sort of dislike everyone and just live like outcasts and raiders? Gamemode probabilities: Meh, don't really care much, I play whatever and just enjoy it. Just hate peaceantags. But it looks like an improvement for the larger community, so I guess it is a good democratic approach to game mode shuffles. good idea. I would nominate probably azande for CM, since staff are uneligible.
  7. power creep detected. just use a normal energy shield. -1 from me EDIT: Could be a vault item, I could support that.
  8. Well I would certainly try my best to get everyone to have a good experience in science, get everyone involved in whatever requires, on slow shifts maybe give out a project or go lab-to-lab and offer help and/or/ advice or just RP really, or teach something not well known and such. Maybe hold workshops for circuitry, I've done that a few times. I would definetively encourage others to pursue their own projects, I would also try to GIVE projects as well, but that's a bit more tricky since I would have to think of things worth studying. But I would love to, yes. Especially if it involved cross-departmental things, which is usually the case with Medical and Chemistry, sometimes Engineering. And the more outside-the-box, the better, as long as there is a REASON for it. If it works, it works. Bonus points if the method is interesting.
  9. For perspective the "SUKH Systems" thing was something I made in the moment, after the Integrated Circuits update without any actual in-depth planning, was just naming conventions for the devices I made, this wasn't ever supposed to be part of the character's lore at all (BUT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT EH?), so I'd say it is only a product that I could license to NT? Or that NT licenses to me? Or it could also just be a product name and nothing more, many possibilities to deal with this particular singular thing. Well I could say that since there are no known products in lore or in game that compete for the same niche of the devices Sukhoi made, that competition agreements wouldn't exist in the first place, but I digress. I think that the focus has shifted and becoming a little off-topic from a Head app to a Character feedback... Sukhoi isn't even in the app itself besides a name on the character list
  10. at this point I really just want mechanics-enforced skill system have a set number of skill points to spend give an action timer and RNG chance of failure for doing things you have little or no skill in stuff like that
  11. Correct and I agree completely. I'm just having a hard time with the wording, that's why I put it between "quotation marks". Obviously all the research done is property of NT, since I'm making the devices with their equipment, while on the job for them. I meant that it's more of a "maker's mark" thing, you know like when factory builders sometimes add their name in to chassi of cars and whatnot, but in this case blatantly with naming conventions, yes. So yes, although Natascha may have "discovered/invented" the device, it's still NT property hardware. IP would be a little more complicated, I never thought about it this deep, but would contract include any IP/patents to be automatically property of NT as well? I just had a hard time explaining, closes I could get to condensing the idea was "trade mark" but that's still not exactly it. More like a maker's mark, yeah. I never thought too in depth about this tbh
  12. >>>>telescience powergamer saying telescience is fine >be telescientist >teleport shit >get called out a powergamer for doing your job
  13. The consequences of being a bad telescientist is spacing yourself. and that happens often.
  14. I've actually tried gibbing a monkey by injecting them, it doesnt work unfortunately
  15. when i do that I get called out for powergaming :v
  16. eh, if they are new engineers, why are they going for a phoron setuup that is more advanced in the first place? There's a reason why nitrogen cannisters are there.
  17. Haha, well, someone noticed. Didn't think that'd happen. It's actually a little something I made just for myself as a personal and easy naming scheme just for fun/homage that I wouldn't think anyone would even associate to be honest, because I love aerospace engineering and soviet aviation, and am myself a pilot IRL. They aren't meant to be actually "related" to the IRL people, could be just a coincidence (I mean how many Vladmirovichs, Ivanovs, and Popovs do you think exist). Well the only character that works in the field that has the surname related to it is.. Natascha. Maybe The engineering apprentice. The other characters work in departments not relevant to their surnames. But that can be changed for the other characters if it's an issue. I can absolutely retcon this since they are rarely played and probably would go unnoticed. Yes, but notably not with malicious intent, mostly just making use of unorthodox methods to further science, and sometimes disregarding the red tape if it starts becoming really an obstruction for research. And I mean, he is competent. So productivity is not jeopardized. This is an intentional character trait. If this is a problem I could tone it down. but insofar it never caused any major troubles for anyone AFAIK. . It has never caused major security problems, mostly just administrative. Well the SUKH SYSTEMS thing is more of just a "personal brand", not even a company really, just something to throw "patents" and "IP" into. I don't sell any devices as a scientist, and I only ran the little Vacant Office as a "business" few times when 1) All science slots were taken and I joined in as Visitor and 2) Got HoP/Captain approval and ID naming change from "Visitor" to "Sukh Systems Rep". In a few cases I was allowed to produce and distribute circuitry items in the Vacant Office but not charge. Others, I could charge but had to split with the HoP. And no, this app is not for Sukhoi, hence, a new character was made. (Speaking of which, app surname changed.) I could always change the last names no problem, except for Sukhoi for being an already established character. The other ones are played not as often, so the surname change wouldn't even be noticed by most crew. So that's something I can fix and retconn before new playthroughs. (with a little admin help) As for Sukhoi not being an RD, like I said, it's not something I plan to do in the medium or short term. And since I would have a proper RD character, it would also "cannibalize" it, so it wouldn't make sense. And like I said, It's mostly a "personal brand trademark", there is no "side-company" that I profit off of, so that is a non-issue. I mean. If naming schemes are the biggest issue, I'm happy, because to me that's something that can be easily fixed and, to be honest, something that wouldn't make a big difference for me in the bigger picture. So I'm a bit glad I guess. And thanks for the AI comment. I find it relevant though, since this is a whitelist app, not just an overview of one character, Natascha Sukhoi (who isn't even in the app). So everything counts. Thanks for taking the time to write an elaborate feedback. I appreciate it. EDIT: formatting
  18. Yes, that's why I'm apping with a completely new character and not Sukhoi himself. Yes, it's Sukhoi's character trait to disregard some of regulations in lieu of performing research, but even then, those cases have been rare lately. But I don't recall any of my other characters disregarding regulations. Thank you for the feedback!
  19. Name: Natascha Sukhoi Species: Human Age: 27 Date of Hire: 05/07/2459 Job Title: Scientist Preferred Contact Info: NS@SukhSystems.net
  20. Had 2 CCIA. 1 from building a second experimental AI without going through the red tape 1 from making a joke and dressing up with a holo soviet uniform and holo gun found in a strange crate and then ordering robotics to share materials or else gulag at a round end. neither of which I consider a problem tbh. one was skipping bureocracy and the other one was, tbh, a bogus report. But I digress. Sukhoi isn't a loose cannon at all, I don't know where'd you get that from. He was interim once, but that's it. I'm making the app for a new char. I haven't planned anything but for now I don't intend on making sukhoi RD. Maybe in the future, I haven't decided. (Thanks for the AI. Have played it for less than a week, first time touching it)
  21. BYOND key: LanceLynxx Character names: Natascha "THE SUKH" Sukhoi / Researcher Viktor Lavochkin / Merchant Ilya Mikoyan / Miner Kimi Myasishchev / Engineering Apprentice Nikita Yakovlev / Cadet ADMINISTRATOR / AI Mikhail "Misha" Volkov/ Researcher / RD candidate How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 7 months-ish Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: First of all, to be able to play a new role. Secondly, to help out others and promote cooperation while making the department work like a well-lubricated machine. Why did you come to Aurora?: Tried to RP in other servers. Got toolboxed and dragged to maint before I could finish my first emote. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yus Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Becoming someone (or something) else and placing yourself in their shoes, forgetting your persona as a player; Thinking and acting according to the character's traits, motivations, drives, background, etc. Literally a controlled dissociative identity disorder. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Teaching jobs, guiding new players, explaining things and answering questions, generally helping and assisting like a mod, but in character, as well as leading the department and trying to mantain cooperation to fulfill their roles at their best capability. Also, try to give a direction to the department, try to engage everyone and try to get everyone to enjoy the round within your best capabilities. AND GET EVERYTHING WORKING PROPERLY. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Basically be a role model for others, be level headed, courteous, and helpful, don't play to win, but play to RP, and be the example of change that you want to see. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Mikhail "Misha" Volkov Character age: 33 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Misha was born in May 9th, 2427, in Harmony City, Luna, son of a wealthy merchant and a surgeon. He grew up during the boom of Bluespace Gates after 2425, and became interested with the science and technology behind the contraptions. Being an only son of a rich couple, he was pampered with all of the best available, from food to private tutoring to getaway vacations and expensive toys and gadgets. Taking this to his advantage, Misha, with innate curiosity and the funds to satisfy it, pursued a career as a scientist, going to Solis Cognito University and taking a Bachelor of Science degree in Experimental Physics, all the while becoming rather sympathetic with the ideals of ATLAS members on campus. Fresh out of college, he was snatched up by Hephaestus Industries as a researcher aboard HRS Odyssey, mostly dealing with reverse-engineering the competition's technology, rather than developing his own research. After a two year contract, he furthered his education by attending to Mars University for a Masters degree in Neural Networks, going back to HRS Odyssey for another two years, and finally returning to Solis Cognito for a PhD in Bluespace Theory, after which he was reassigned to HRS Lemnos for six years. Disgruntled with the restrictive measures surrounding research and development, general stagnation of innovation, and focus on just reverse engineering and refining existing ideas, he jumped at the oportunity to transition to NanoTrasen , having a much larger freedom to test and experiment at his discretion, with state-of-the-art equipment and less government regulation. What do you like about this character?: He's well educated, analytical, focused, and presses on for results using pragmatism, and although solitary and more at comfort with books, attempts to mantain a good relationship with his peers. I also like that, although pragmatic, he also strives for innovation, so long as it is useful and efficient. What do you dislike about this character?: Due to his upbringing, he may at times be posh, stuck up, and somewhat spoiled, becoming condescending when his colleagues fail to execute tasks efficiently or otherwise get in the way of his research. Somewhat a narcisist. His time in Solis Cognito University also made him a bit of a bigot in regards to other species, although sympathetic towards synthetics, since he sees as a human creations, therefore, a statement to humankind's genius. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: His education background and experience make him fit to run a science department, and perhaps even advise on matters in concurrency with Engineering in regards to synthetics and AI. His drive for results is also a plus, since he would do everything in his power to assist in reaching the goals of each subdivision of Science. The analytical pragmatism would be a boon to the overall efficiency of the department, as would the will to learn more from experiments. Even though his narcisism is mostly a "bad" character flaw, it is also used as a pressure drive to present results to his superiors; Failure in giving satisfactory reports would result in bringing shame unto himself as a Director. Thus, the personal and professional goals are aligned, increasing productivity. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say that I'm a solid 7/10, always striving for RP and never playing to win, trying to keep a balance between emotes and actions as well. Every so often I may "break" the atmosphere but that's usually within the spur of a moment, and those are far and in between. Extra notes: Can't Beat A Good SUKH EDIT: Name change
  22. Why fix what ain't broke? Telescience is fine as is.
  23. +1 for the app in my opinion I think eve would be able to play an IPC as an IPC should.. relatively emotionless, analytical, and specialized. A lot of other IPC whitelistees out there play IPCs like a metallic human, this could be a proper example for others to follow.
  24. science main here can confirm we try to give items when they are requested all miners gotta do is ask and fill the requisition
  25. Toxin damage is a no-go. We don't want trips to medical or a tea vendor just for eating a bag of chips. Maybe have junk-food increase the drain on nutriment, to force you to eat actual food which is okay, or risk draining your account on junk-food. Another idea. Instead of heart damage, just give it the "fat" effect and slow you down without having to "overeat", and give a large stamina penalty until the food is processed. Could be a new reagent called "low quality nutriment"?
