2. Found your Vaurcan Ag methods here
3. Could only be improved by the human yelling at a Vaurca janitor. Don't kill; Exploit!
4. I can see where you're coming from alexpkeaton. I, personally, would never use it because I'm very hyperaware of everything and type very fast, but I realize that not everyone is that way. I honestly didn't know that many people used autohiss. There's no harm in adding it, just makes me sad we might be losing some creative Dionaea potential. I hope you all prove me wrong and make some great plantmen.
5. I just see it as a way to get used to being an alien race. But once you're in that mindset, it doesn't slow you down at all. It's as natural as typing normal English. Autohiss can be pretty bad. You can use your accent to your advantage if you don't use it. High stress situation? Accent gets worse ("SSSSSOMEONE HELP!" vs the "SSOMEONE HELP" auto-hiss may give you). Having your character perfect their basic a bit more? Maybe only tap the s once more instead of three times during low-stress situation ("How'ssss... ssorry... how'ss life?" vs the "How'sss life?" that auto-hiss may give you). It puts more control into YOUR hands, your choices as a roleplayer, as opposed to something automated. It's just my opinion, but I think the more control you have over your own character, the better.
6. Mmm. I'm against this, I think. The thing that makes Dionaea different from, say, Tajarans or Unathi or Vaurca, is that there's no reason they MUST speak this way. Vaurca go so far as to have a speech modulator that forces z's (Bygonehero might change that, idk). So the Auto-Hiss training wheels makes sense for those races. And I do call it training wheels. In order to improve, you should slowly wean yourself off of it. Dionaea, however, have no reason to be forced to speak this way. No, "they're slow" is not a valid enough argument. Certainly it's a popular Dionaea speech pattern, but it's a choice, and because of that (just like VisVirific 's Lawrence) you get to type out your chosen speech pattern. But on the bright side, this means that you don't get hooked on the ease of Auto-Hiss and in order to stay in-character, you're taking the extra steps. To me, those extra steps disappear after playing the character long enough. Just like replacing "I" with "We", it comes second nature after a while. TL;DR - Dionaea don't need this.
7. Ever write a drabble and have no idea where to put it? Me, too! I, for some reason, imagined a Skrell with a speech impediment in their native language due to a congenital defect of the tentacle, but spoke fine in Basic. I feel like that wouldn't be a thing because surgery but here it is. Just... constant nosebleed voice. -- “Ryza!" “I dedpide dat name you hab giben me. Hab daid do bor yeard, my dear friend.” “Yes, but we graduate soon. I heard you even have a job all set out!" “I do. Worging bor NanoDraden, on dome dadon. Whad aboud you?" “I have an interview with Zeng-Hu Pharma. In Eri. We’ll see how it goes." “Dibiculd do belieb we’ll be going our debarade wayd doon." “Apart, sure, but always at home in one another’s minds.” “How many more ebamd do you hab?" “Four more today. Not even concerned. One is very Basic.” “Do not even start.” “Great apologies to you, Ryza. But I must warm up my tongue.” “I have the exam soon as well.” “I find the written exam much simpler.” “You have always done well in the written exams. But who has consistently beat you in the practical?” “By an average of four points.” “Me.” “…Ryza. We must set aside time together after graduation. I do not wish to drift apart.” “Nor do I, Xandu. Nor do I.”
8. Now that I actually have a moment to do more than glance at this page for the first time this week. Thank you all for the feedback! I'm glad my writing is entertaining to more than just myself, as I had believed! I've been at this roleplay thing for more than half my life, really, so it's good to know I've managed a small impact. It really means a lot. As far as Witcher CMO goes, it doesn't. Complete no-go. The poor thing is not cut out for long-term command. They have very specific situations in which they can be placed in charge (namely states of severe emergency, such as epidemic or disaster situations because they are, first and foremost, an emergency physician) and only because this would give them the automatic authority required to wrangle everyone not as used to complete disasters. This interimship has not come into play because , by the time shit hits the fan hard enough, there's no Captain or HoP even looking for a CMO. They're probably dead. So it's just Moros, let me be very clear about that one. None of the other characters I have right now will take up a Head position. Kzon CMO when tho?
9. >Dionaea saying I instead of we. Get it together S-Senpai. Though that last panel gave me a very "Bitch, please" vibe and I love it. This thread is just A+ quality, mandatory reading.
10. Woe. That's morbid. Just a bit. But also a hell of a motivator. I'm laughing a bit too loudly, my roommate might be concerned. But it's the wish of all stationbound units, really. This backstory was very well-written, and creatively written as well. I enjoyed that immensely. Joyous day, CRASA will grab itself a chassis (a slightly less pointy one). I will hug CRASA, this I decree. CRASA is consistent. Anyone that has spent any appreciable amount of time in medical knows this android and its morale-boosting figurine. But the question is, if CRASA is an IPC, how can it get to the cyborg figurine!?!?! You should put in for a custom item application for one. I, and others that have had their morale boosted, would support the shit out of it. All in all, I certainly trust Green won't explode the station with an OP IPC. They've been at this for years. Sometimes the simplest happiness comes from giving someone the ability to touch. +1
11. BYOND key: Conspiir Character names: Moros Zarikqk-Antivios, Kali Saluja, Witcher II… (see signature for more information) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Total time, over a year. Recently, the last two months. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I admit, never had a Head whitelist. Never wanted it. I never needed it before because I never felt like I had enough knowledge to lead. I’ve watched the way Heads operate. I want it now because it’s the direction my roleplay is going. Why did you come to Aurora?: For some reason, I remember it initially being almost an accident. It probably was. I came back because nostalgia is a strong motivator. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have. All of them are nice readings when I’m supposed to be studying, even if I don’t plan on commanding some departments. (You can all feel free to lynch me if I ever join as Head of Security.) Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about people coming together. It’s about separating yourself from the things going on around you and focusing on what’s going on around someone you’re pretending to be. A lot of us roleplay to relax, to tell stories, and damn right that’s a noble purpose (we could be out doing drugs but we aren’t… probably). But roleplay is only roleplay when you have other people right there with you, engaging with you, enjoying the improv back-and-forth. Otherwise, it’s just you enjoying a jaunt into your imagination. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, in-game?: I’ve always seen them as a driving force for more roleplay. Anything that opens up new avenues for story progression is good in my book, and Heads have a huge impact on that, especially in their own departments and (in the case of HoS and Captain) over the entire station. That includes the antags therein. Yes, that means I’m signing myself up to die if need be. But it also stems into teaching to an extent. You can generally get a feel of who knows what when you tell them to do something. If they need guidance, you're first in line to provide it or assign someone else to. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I feel responsible to uphold a high level of roleplay. I’ll have people that will need direction, and I must give it decisively, quickly, and with good reason. There’s no being a shitstain here; it has the capacity to ruin an entire round for others. I can’t abide that. If I know I can’t handle being Head of Security, for example, I’m not going to do it. Why would I. That would ruin the entire round for myself and all of security and all of the station. No. I have the responsibility to hold myself back. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well-articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Moros Zarikqk-Antivios Character age: 76 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): “Alright. That should clear up medical history…” The interviewer makes a few quick notes on the pages before her. She seems satisfied. “Last part of the interview will be personal history, in your own words. Any information the company may need before it hires you to this elevated position.” “I see.” “It will be recorded for later review. Do you agree to this?” “Yes.” Click… “… I was born Moros Zarikqk on Jargon IV on what translates to the 14th of February 2380 alongside my sister Kiiris Zarikqk. Growing up on Querrbalak, my health and that of my sister’s was often a concern. We did, obviously, survive. My higher education consisted of Business Management, in which I currently hold a doctorate. “Upon first contact between our species, I began working in a shipyard as a supply coordinator. A few years later, I applied to the rapidly growing company known as NanoTrasen to serve aboard one of its small experiment ships, the Antivios. I would serve aboard it for forty years as a personnel coordinator. Mostly ensuring steady supplies such as food and equipment, but also arranging cooking schedules, cleaning duties, and approving personnel transfers among the crew fluctuating around about a dozen. “Just over a month ago, on October 4th, it is suspecting that a phoron leak from one of the experiments caused combustion in the kitchens where dinner was being prepared. The flames and gas quickly spread, devouring all of the crew. An IPC under designation Kali was able to pull me to a safety pod despite grievous injuries to herself. I was the only crewmember of a team of eleven still breathing. Though, as Kali does not breathe, that equates to nine dead personnel and the loss of a very dear ship. “I now currently live alongside Kali, in an apartment leased to us here aboard the ODIN. We both serve aboard the Aurora.” … Click. “Alright. That settles everything. Thank you for your time. We’ll get back to you on our decision.” “Thank you. Have a safe evening.” What do you like about this character?: Moros is an awkward cookie. My other characters are either comfortable with who they are or know they can’t do anything about it, but Moros really tries to not be that awkward guy. It causes him to engage with just about anyone when the awkward levels rise high enough, just to try to not seem so awkward. But behind that is a man that is very used to such a position, who asks for respect, not fear or love. What do you dislike about this character?: He’s a bureaucrat, which means paperwork (which I don’t mind so much, it’s just time-consuming). He lacks assertiveness so he only speaks up about controversy when he knows it’ll not raise any hackles (so no just saying “Wow, you’re wrong” which might solve a situation a lot faster), but he makes up for it by reasoning out his (and everyone else’s) thoughts to come to the best conclusion. Not to mention, he takes all of my being hyperaware of awkward situations and brings it to the forefront. It’s uncomfortable. He’s uncomfortable. It’s a similar feeling to a dad trying to be less serious by using words like “hip” and “cool cats.” The Cringing can be heard from Eridani. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: For all I said I hate how he is, I know he isn’t actually like that. That when he has others that depend on him, he straightens his spine. They need him and he can’t afford to be dithering. Don’t get me wrong, man’s a total coward when it comes to combat. The man is (read: I am) not a tactician. He’s most comfortable when someone else is making the “BIG” decisions and he can offer advice to that higher authority. But he’s going to help anyone under him that needs it because that’s just how he views it. It’s his duty. It’s the responsibility he takes on by being their supervisor. No man left behind if he can help it. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I’ve been complimented before, which still surprises and unnerves me as I don’t know how to take a compliment. I'll say a 9.1 today. Extra notes: ((Someone outta update the application template to make it well-articulated not well articulated. It’s present three times. Hyphens matter. Respect the compound adjectives.))
12. Having a job ban on it, rather like we do now with antags and security, would not be a bad thing in my book. I second this addition.
13. All I can imagine is "Nar'sie Has Risen"-sized text on your screen. Overall, I approve of the idea. One thing of note: 20/20 vision is normal vision. 20/10 is actually above normal. To use an example from the internet because I'm terrible at wording this: If you have 20/100 vision, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet. But yes, different prescriptions would be pretty cool.
14. Please. I want to put a monkey in a labcoat and buckle it into the science front desk chair. People will see no change.
15. It should be noted, Anders has already helped me learn science to an acceptable degree. I like the character. He has human failings, and yet excels in what interests him. I could see him being an RD simply for how he's already a force within science that takes the position. And Hobo seems like good people. +1
16. Posibrain lore is just Synthetic lore at the moment. The application to expand it is here: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=9153 Cake has stated that IPCs can know up to everything within one department, at the expense of knowing nothing of any other department. So an IPC could know Chemistry, Surgery, general med, and even some Virology, but would not know how to install a lightbulb. Obviously, the less of one department they know, they could gain some understanding of others. Corporate Regs, or building a table maybe. But I feel like being jack-of-all-trades is impossible.
17. A fascinating question, and one I'm also interested in. I (and I'm sure other IPC players) have assumed that yes, one positronic can be move to different chassi. Meaning an android can be moved to an IPC, an android can be move to an AI and back... You don't really see IPC-to-Android brain transfers, though. Muncorn has a lore canonization app up for how exactly positronic brains work, and I like the general idea behind it. Downloading personality from the Extranet, what have you. Theoretically, this means even a pAI personality can be downloaded into a positronic. But I don't really think this bit of lore has been fully explored. I eagerly await the dialogue on this topic.
18. My thanks to the players of RDs Rex Winters, Serenity Neferet, and Spike Hujsak for putting up with some questions out of left field so I could write "Sunday".
19. byond://server.aurorastation.org:1234/ I think we still go hidden sometimes? I don't know. Use the link to connect whenever.
20. Hahahaha... same. Vrow doesn't break character. My brain hurts, trying to think of how anyone could possibly write a stutter so diligently. And I believe that this Skrell, a noble journeyer of Queblak for the Stars, will proudly represent his race in medical. The hesitance toward synthetics by mere word-of-mouth, the desire to see the stars... I'm surprised this is your first time applying. Such a fine roleplayer and a pleasure to work with. +1
21. Does this also include alien races not suited for certain jobs, i.e. a Dionaea Security Officer or EMT? Being a Dionaea is, essentially, crippling, but where is the line drawn for this one? Would be okay for a Dionaea to be a Warden or Forensic Tech or Detective, a less run-to-the-scene job? And what about security cadet in order to reach Detective status or train under a Warden? What about an Emergency Technician? Technically a medical doctor, that job requires speed as well to stabilize a severely hurt patient and even if, mechanically, a Dionaea could do it, roleplay-wise they probably shouldn't.
22. Taking a bit of inspiration from old Abo, this is a continuing WIP story containing multiple chapters. Difference here is it's not one cohesive story, but more separate moments in Moros' life in one place for me to refer back to that isn't my hard drive. I wanted to try something new with how I create character backgrounds. Feel free to leave feedback, should anyone read this, but it's not written with audience in mind. 23. Yaaaaay another Vaurca app! I love it! I, too, find bugs "adorable" but I'm planning on specializing in entomology so... I guess that's a plus. One discrepancy I found is that it isn't a matter of "learning" Basic. As the lore is right now (Bygonehero may change this, I don't know where they plan to go with voices) they all have speech synthesizers implanted in their throats. Unbound may have an easier time with their accents (being able to pronounce sounds a bit better) due to extra augmentations (Bound do not have that luxury). So what's your plan for this one? Lab assistant (vying for a Xenobotanist avowal) or just a straight-up gardener that begs chemists for unstable mutagen? I feel like the second would fit the backstory better, perhaps with the addition of bugging (AHAHAHA... not intended) the Research Director every now and then. Either way... +1 from me
24. More  Vaurca  That said, I really want to hear more about them! I've come across your kitties a few times, and I believe in your abilities as a roleplayer, I just want to know more about Ryn. Solid name, by the way. Bygone added fancy new information on different broods. Which one do they belong to? How has that shaped them? https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vaurca_Hives
