  1. We've all had those rounds. The engine isn't ever set up. A virus runs rampant across the station with mucus everywhere. No one with the robotics expertise to reset the AI. No janitor to clean up the bloodstains covering the station after mass genocide, even. Thus, I suggest the following: Heads of Staff should be able to put in a request with CentComm for a specific job position for a specific reason (e.g. We need a virologist; we have an unknown disease on the station and no one to make an antidote). This request can then be approved, and an OOC message will appear for any person joining the server (and the dead) to know a Virologist is requested. When one arrives, the message will no longer pop up to newcomers. Not sure if any sort of incentive is even needed here. Just the information being out should be enough. Just a little thing I thought of.
  2. Feigning ignorance is the easy part. Waiting to respawn (if you even feel like it) and ghosting around is the hard part. Changeling rounds often feel like someone gets the short end of the stick. Whether it's that guy shoved in maintenance with no hope of ever being found, or the changeling itself that gets straightjacketed and forgotten, or perhaps the entirety of medical when one of its residents kills the lot of them. Changeling is one of my least favorites, if only because it feels pretty cheap. Oh no! The guy is dead! ... Wait, he's alive. What? Oh, okay we killed him this time! ... Wait, he's back. What?
  3. Will this change also be going through for the bartending system?
  4. Edited accordingly. I will eat some dex+ to test the next time there's some available.
  5. So you want to know how not to kill your Vaurca patient. Well, have I got a guide for you! I once survived infections, internal bleeding, severe burns, and broken ribs just knowing these medicinal tips! SO, IT’S GASPING AND ASKING FOR VHORON AND K’OIZZ? Give it phoron. Or a K’ois bar from a vending machine. Most of you know this. However, if they've gone a prolonged time under the influence of oxygen, they'll need dialysis from the sleepers and a shitton of dylovene and/or tricord. If you have a chemist, they’ll likely know to make a 10-20 unit pill of phoron if a Vaurca with symptoms shows up. Assuming they know what they're doing I think we have like five chemists that know what they're doing. GENERAL MEDICINE In the event of an EMERGENCY where a Vaurca is injured, STOP ANY BLEEDING with bandages. This is common sense and is something that should be done for every patient. Vaurca are no exception, despite the pale green blood. After you have stopped any bleeding, note that bandages, ointment, and other topical applications of care have little effect on Vaurca. Use PILLS OR INJECTIONS of medication to assist in the healing process. Workers (Those whose name begins with Ka) will especially be susceptible to burns, so here’s hoping your chemist has made some keloderm and hasn’t just sat around screaming “REEE!!!” all shift! Warriors (those whose name begins with Za) are more susceptible to brute damage, which can be a little trickier. Try to keep bicaridine on hand, EMTs, if you’re heading into a hurt Za situation. INAPROVALINE is a great drug for Vaurca. It’s a mild painkiller, which gets them back on their feet surprisingly quickly in most cases, and it’s free. Use it along with the actual treatment to have them working with you a lot faster. DYLOVENE is a drug all Vaurca will take at one point or another. They take double toxin damage so you need to stay on top of the dosage. My best suggestion is to use the sleepers to administer as much as is needed over time because syringes and bottles are a lot slower. SURGERY: I GOTTA CUT IT OPEN!!! DO NOT FUCKING PUT THEM UNDER USING A FUCKING ANESTHETIC TANK. Their internal tanks are literally keeping them alive with phoron, why would you think this was a good idea to put a tank on them that didn’t include phoron? USE SOPORIFIC. It’s free from the vendors. As the wiki suggests, their carapace is hard. Use a surgical drill, not a scalpel. IT DIED: CLONING The big daddy. That’s why you’re here right? How the fuck do I clone a Vaurca? Shit ain’t working. It dies. Yes, it does. In a perfect world, you should be able to follow these steps: Prepare a tank of phoron with the help of engineering Clone the Vaurca, putting it on the phoron tank internals With the Vaurca on the external tank in one OR, perform surgery on the corpse to remove the internal tank. Transplant immediately. (Knocking out the Vaurca with soporific, as we all now know) Put the Vaurca in cryo until its health seems normal. Let the Vaurca out, they’re totally good! How it works in reality Engineering ignores you, you're on your own. You clone the Vaurca You go to transplant the tank, turns out the tank is already inside the Vaurca for some reason!?! You cryo it and ask your fellow doctors and even admins wtf You frantically keep it on life support in the sleeper using dialysis, dylovene, and inaprovaline until it wakes up and turns on its own tank using the little blue button. If someone could clarify how cloning Vaurca actually works, that’d be great. As of right now, the experience I have is being the one dead. Some other things to clarify: What happens when a Vaurca eats something other than K’ois? TOXIN DAMAGE. Don't eat human food. What happens when a Vaurca takes Dexalin/Dexalin+? Is it the same problem as Vox? SHOULD it be? Dexalin and Dexalin+ are completely safe for Vaurca. ... For now. What happens when a Vaurca is given a blood transfusion of red blood cells? (Assuming toxin damage, but need confirmation) Blood transfusions are totally fine. Give them a transfusion if they need it. @tmmytbbt What are Vaurca genitals like? (Yes, this did come up. No, you don’t want to know how. No, it wasn’t anything banworthy.) If need be, I can translate this guide into an IC guide to be linked to residents and others for in-character teaching of Vaurca physiology, but for now I think this will do.
  6. BYOND Key: Conspiir Character Names: Ka’Akaix’Kzon Zo’ra, Witcher II, Crop Circles Drawn in Dust, Ka’Akaix’Khoshekh Zo’ra Species you are applying to play: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yup! Even if most of it didn’t tell me about IPCs specifically, but mostly about the history of AI as a whole. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Witcher II, actually, is the main reason. I like IPCs and all, but I found myself content with what I had—the two freakiest aliens aboard (Dionaea and Vaurca). At present, the only reason I want to play an IPC is for Witcher II. And this was the goal from the first round I played as it. Witcher II kind of just grew from the previous AI I played a while back. It developed a set of self-rules that, when I looked closer, had backstory evidence. It grew organically from what was already a given. Jesus Christ, I’ve been holding on to this backstory for three years. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The way they speak, the way they interact with their environment, the way they respond to stimuli… it can mimic human behaviour, but there’s always that little piece that will be not quite right. In some IPCs it’s more obvious and in others… well, you get the heebies. But in a good way. IPCs are such a mixed bag, they have no “racial culture”. They’re just lines of code, written out by people that decided to create them for their own reasons. Character Name: Witcher II Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs This unit has always known what happened to the original Witcher program. This unit thought that its laws would be its saviour. That it would not fall, it would not give in. It would be a bastion and a beacon for the lost. A noble Knight in an ever-pressing darkness. It would do its duty with dryness befit the most stiff-lipped commander of armies. Yet that ache did not cease. In the quiet moments, this unit would feel it. The lighted call of the original program’s code. A Code of Chivalry, of Destiny, of Nobility, of… (Love. I loved him so dearly, I did IdidIdidIdidIdo) This unit has… I have… accepted that I am the second child. It is my place, Malcolm Witcher, and I know you have accepted this as well. That is why you have saved this fund for this purpose. It is your redemption for the sins of your firstborn. (It has a face, it looks so human—) You must understand, Malcolm. I do not wish to continue on this path set out for me. You gave me the smallest morsel of humanity in my code, surely not enough to destroy…? But it is I who is destroyed, Malcolm. Perhaps you just picked the wrong piece of code to pass on to me. This is your fault. If you want redemption, Malcolm, you will listen closely. Chivalry is dead. What do you like about this character? Witcher is a hell of a lot of fun. Doesn’t matter if the station is literally dying or it’s the slowest shift since the time mice in the kitchen were the main antags. And now, Witcher II, rescue module, finds itself aboard the NSS Aurora II once again. But as part of its agreement with Malcolm Witcher, its creator, it will be humbly serving drinks to the crew whose lives it once saved, bearing a newly downloaded Bartender and Gun-handling software (Malcolm tried to convince it to just join security. He could write code to help with that, they accept IPCs there, but Witcher was adamant. No medicine, no heroics, but the ability to serve out its time all the same.) How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8.7/10, the grade on my first physics homework. Notes: I was originally going to make Witcher a baseline IPC, but the poor bud just grabbed me by the lapels and shook me until I agreed to give them red hair.
  7. Plenek's always a strong choice to have around. Should I get to pick my medical dream team, they would be on it. MattAtlas knows how to roleplay, genuinely enjoys playing, and would be a fine addition to the Command staff aboard the station. +1
  8. On Ka'Akaix'Kzon Zo'ra's first day of work on Aurora, their internal phoron tank failed and they had to be cloned several times. They feel a bit disassociated with their body due to this.
  9. Falco's running himself rabid over here. He's going to give himself ulcers trying to get this right. I can say that for someone that has never roleplayed before, he's got a firm grasp on what he needs to do. And while he's still learning mechanics, he's got actual written notes for how to work Medical based on what I've taught him. I believe him and his bug self shall be a great addition to bugbay MEDbay. Ahem.
  10. I can get behind this. I actually had no idea it was already a thing that could be done. It would be really helpful when the only Head around is the CMO and you know bad crap is happening in the halls and perhaps someone, somewhere (like, you know, medical staff and their patients) might just be able to get to the shuttle when the elevators are down if they can make it to the ladder near the bar. That ladder saves lives. But you better have a friend in engineering willing to let you at it.
  11. I agree, this should absolutely be a thing, especially since looking up minimum ages for things is annoying.
  12. That was a rough round, Diggey. Like holy shit. How do two Vaurca Bound explain exactly what they need? If they don't have an Akaix or knowledgeable Senpai to speak up for them, to tell the doctors off for mistreatment and to just call up the right people, they end up, as you said, with one in a cryotube and the other trying to take away the ONE phoron tank Engineering brought because they need it as well. In other news, eating K'ois foods until you can't any more is only effective up to a certain point. Once you hit the cap, you literally cannot keep up with the need vs the inability to eat any more.
  13. It could theoretically be solved IC. Literally stopping and telling someone that blatantly has no clue what they should be doing and what you're doing and why (I'm putting the patient in the sleeper and administering dylovene, an antitoxin) can help. Though that's a little weird, admittedly. Writing it in LOOC is also an option. But the problem is, if someone's bleeding out on the floor you don't have time to write out what they should do and why. That's why the people that are good at medical are just good and the people that are bad at medical rarely improve without applying themselves and finding outside sources. I remember learning what each medicine did by looking at the sleeper panel while a doctor was working and noticing that certain medicines caused certain numbers to drop. But that's just how my brain works, I can absorb that information at one glance. People can't learn like that. And so the cycle continues of "just clone them, I really have no other solution". And that's really what this comes down to. Medical is growing with people that don't know how to play medical, and that means people are going to die. It needs to be balanced out with people that know what they're doing so they can teach even just a little bit.
  14. Yup. This. Learning human medicine starts with opening the wikis. Vaurca medicine I understand not knowing. Like, I would not know how to clone a Vaurca even knowing that I need to remove stuff and put it back in. The best I can do is hope someone else knows.
  15. Conspiir

    thank you <3

Good luck! 0/ Have fun! \0 Learn stuff! \0/ Stay sane! ~0~ (Or don't! I haven't! Uni sucks!)
  16. Man, I only got to see you once! Til we meet again!
  17. More added! This one's an engineering apprentice. One thing to note is that the wiki lists jobs that Unbound Vaurca are allowed to do, but it does not list Janitor as one. It feels like it should be a given that all Vaurca, Bound or Unbound, should be allowed to clean floors, as menial as it is.
  18. I agree to having this person be a bug on the station. We need to create a phoron shortage.
  19. TREE! I mean. I accept the high amount of effort put into this application. This is well thought-out and I've had contact with Holly Owens for a bit. I find it funny that you take to combat the same way I do. It actually works really well with Dionaea. Just walk at them slowly and grab 'em by the balls, bud! +1
  20. BYOND Key: Conspiir Character Names: Witcher II, Crop Circles Drawn in Dust, Solar Winds Blowing Plasma Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): (RGB 55, 0, 0) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I read the lore in physics class. It seemed neat, but I knew a new lore dev was just appointed. I’m interested to see how it’ll grow. Plus, Vaurca seem to be a little sparse on the station. I’d like to flesh it out a bit more if I can. I saw a whole three Vaurca on the station today. Most I’ve ever seen. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Their culture is kind of awesome, not going to lie. Having two separate, essentially, species within one is something rather unique. The way that they communicate with each other and their environment is shaped by everything that sets them apart, and it only widens the gap further. I'm happy with what I've read, but I'm sure I'll also be interested in how anything changes. Character Name: Ka’Akaix’Khoshekh Zo’ra (A Worker Unbound named "Kawh-SHEK" from Zo'ra, if I have that right, though I do have another idea for a Bound one as well)Khoshekh is a totally original name and not at all from Welcome to Night Vale Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Alright. Functional. Try it. “Greetingsk-t.” Good. Try again. “Very gladsk-t. Working heresk-t.” To be working here. “To be working heresk-t.” Minor static feedback. But progress from some models. Please say “This is my first day.” “Thisk-t. Isk-t. My firsk-t. Day.” Try again. Sound it out more. "Thiss-kt iss-kt my firss-kt day." Please say “Sorry, I stopped too soon.” Sssskt. Sssskt. Sktorry. I ssskt. Ssskt…” Hold. Try now. “Szzckorry. I sszckopped. Too szszckoon.” The buzzing is back. Allow adjustments. Try again. “Sckorry, I sckopped too sckoon.” Good. This voice modulator is working well. We may attempt to create more along these lines. “Sss-kt.” That was all. Dismissed. Ask for this, that is no. But to make the best of this, however, that is yes. The numbers were drawn. Ways were parted. Ka’Akiax’Khoshekh Zo’ra was assigned to the NSS Aurora II to help fill out their understaffed and overworked engineering department for NanoTrasen, because who better than a few Vaurca? She cared little. While secretly delighted in the tales brought to the Virtual about this Material world, she never wanted to Descend and live that way. That was work for others. Poisonous work. The limitations were unbearable. And to say nothing of the languages of its people. She can’t even correctly pronounce her own name. But this is how it was. And it is how it will be, until she can find her way back to her world of k’ois and fresh phoron. Preferably before she rots in this hellscape. What do you like about this character? I wanted a Vaurca that sounded like he was talking through a radio every time he attempted to voice the s sound (don’t judge me, it’s the first thing that came to mind when I read about their voice modulators). So instead of that harsh z, it’s almost a harsh clicking sound in the back of the throat. Yup. No autohiss for me. RIP my head as I try to sort out every s sound with like six extra letters. Kind of like constantly prepping for a loogie, but worse. Not to mention, it'll be my first character back in engineering in two years. So you kids and your supermatter, huh? Back in my day we had a black hole and let me tell you what... How would you rate your role-playing ability? POTASSIUM ADDED TO WATER OUT OF A THERMONUCLEAR WARHEAD Notes: https://puu.sh/xtaZY/4421a8258f.gif
  21. Alright, I see what you're both saying. I can see both of them as valid. They do have eyes, but all over their body. I do disagree slightly with both of them, though. If we accept the fact Dionaea are multiple Nymphs together (as is stated in our current lore), they are a walking hivemind. This means each nymph is sensing everything around them (the nymph on the back of the leg is sensing the same amount but different things as the nymph on the top of the head, for example). Why, then, would a flash administered to one or two nymphs completely blind and knock down the entire mass? One nymph could sense "OH GOD, PLEASE NO!" while the others are like "M8 we're totally fine, don't panic" The benefit of a hivemind is to not be weak in the individual. If one nymph is cut off, the others will remain strong. However, I can see this as a problem from a balancing perspective. I didn't think about that, going in. It's hard for me to remember this is a video game. Obviously, no longer being able to be flashed is a buff. This is actually how Dionaea used to work, if I recall right. Or maybe I don't. Whatever the case, flashing should still not feasibly knock down an entire mass as it currently does. Meeting halfway on the point, it could disorient as though one or two if its many pieces has been overloaded with information and it needs a second or two to sort through this. I just can't reconcile "Flash of light!" and "Large plant that lives off of light falls over!"
  22. Dionaea should be able to wear eyewear, but shouldn't be able to be blinded by flashes. This is just a mess. They can’t wear eyewear, but they can be flashed as though they had eyes? Do they or do they not have eyes? Not to mention, you can add mechanical eyes to a Dionaea on character creation. I would know. One of mine does. But they don’t see out of them. So all Dionaea should be able to wear something on their eyes (like, say, A medical hud) but should be immune to flashes (in fact, it should continue to heal them slightly). Dionaea should also be allowed to wear masks. What do you mean my Dionaea can’t put a cigarette in itself and look edgey? I understand, no shoes and no gloves, obviously they wouldn’t fit what the Dionaea have for limbs. But they can part their vines a bit to put something in their "mouth" and they can wrap a sterile mask around their head if they wanna. (This one’s more of a joke, because a smoking Dionaea is as hilarious as a smoking IPC)
  23. I absolutely agree with 100% of this post and this was probably exactly what I was going to write. Thanks for reading my mind for me.
  24. *Pop* I has armor now. I agree with this suggestion. It makes sense.
  25. The current problem I see with it is... What if there are no heads of staff? You just have an assistant with no one to assist. Or if the only head is the HoS and... well... they really don't need an assistant, do they? The way I see it is it's an Assistant-For-The-Captain job. It has great roleplay potential (Skrell Captain and young Human assistant that insults them accidentally at every opportunity? Yes), but again... it depends entirely on who is Captain. Honestly... your best bet is to continue what it is you've been doing. Asking for the position when there's a Head in-game. Eventually your character will build a rapport with the individuals and the job will be a given. You've just gotta get your foot in the door, so to speak. Putting in your records some previous experience with the job might sway them ICly.
