Checked your notes, you were give a warning a few days before for the same reason. But I'm up for giving you another chance. If no one says anything negative by the time I wake up tomorrow, I'll unban ya.

[Expired] CashDash123's unban appeal
Skull132 replied to CashDash123's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Jesus fucking christ. This is like the 3rd appeal you've written and still fucked up the format. HOW?! Please take a mental image of how your appeal looks like at this moment, memorize it, and remind yourself every time you need to write a new appeal. It's not rocket science. Also, why wasn't this just forwarded into an admin issue of, "Guys, can you respawn this guy, he fucked up?" -
Add More Sec Vendors; Expand Sec Vendor Supplies
Skull132 replied to Surrealistik's topic in Archive
Voting for dismissal. You can very easily provide supplies for all officers. + Arrow's PR is adding cadet specific lockers, so that issue is squared. Basically, partially unnecessary (veering towards the, everything should be plentiful side of the spectrum, which is bad), and partially to be implemented next dev cycle. EDIT: Binned, as a week has already passed since creation, and it's missing general support. -
Not realistically feasible, unfortunately. Binned.

Most people who say they won't be coming back usually come back.

The main case to be made is about comfort and efficiency. Much like you, I have shot weapons at a range and I know how to handle them safely and with some amount of competency. However, a few years ago now, I was also given the chance to participate in a national guard field training exercise which lasted a 3 day weekend. I was lugging around a Galil and light webbing the entire time, and boy. The environment of a range is not comparable to an environment where you actually have to go and do stuff with your weapon. The main argument is that, without specific training, you're going to suck and you're probably going to miss due to fatigue and not being used to other external factors that you wouldn't find in a range. (Leaving out characters who do that level of training as a hobby, I suppose.) That's usually why 80% of the cases where the training argument is levied by mods and 'mins, it's in a situation where an individual who's untrained pressed an assault or pursuit with a weapon, as opposed to defending themselves. There's also the fun point of taking another human's life. Once again, in situations where your character pushes an advance, pursuit, or his life otherwise isn't under threat (he can run away or whatever), he may think twice about killing someone. Once an opponent has disengaged, it is most common for an untrained individual to freeze up, if my memory serves me. (The "fight or flight" paradigm being actually "fight, flight, freeze," with the latter being most common.)

To consolidate and clarify. The server was started back in September 2013 by Tool, Chaz, Fsphere, and others. By January 2014, all but FSphere had left higher management positions and the server in general, so other heads of staff were put up. I was made Head Dev around that time, and YeahChris was made Head Admin then as well. That's basically where Aurora as it is now started, as myself and Chris were not really involved with the old management (we were new recruits), and didn't know what general plans the old management had for the server. So we just did our own thing. Before us, the server was hosted by Tool, then, for the month of January, it was hosted by ShadowDamon, and after that, I took over. Right now, all of the hardware and service leases are signed under my name, and I pay for them. Most of the infrastructure now a days, though, is greatly helped by Arrow's presence (specially the new server, he was the one that basically set it all up with fancy shit in the backend). I just update stuff and investigate breakages. The community is run primarily by the Administrators, led by Garnascus and Itzal, along with the other teams and the community itself.

Not a lore dweeb, but since this topic is something I debated recently, I'll pitch my 2 cents. Because the "smart" synths want freedom and payment, same as humans. The "free" synth labour force is about as smart as current self-learning AI. Which means that wide-scale replacement of humans is not possible with them. The labour force you want, however, have developed a consciousness and want things like just reward for their work. Which pretty much puts them in the same category as human labour, maybe only a little cheaper. For a full elaboration, feel free to browse this Reddit comment chain:

Due to coding issues, snek people are kill. RIP snek people.

With the announcement of our new playable species, the Snek People, we are opening up whitelist applications for them. As the Snek People are about to become very common in Tau Ceti, we believe that a new mindset is required for handling whitelist applications for them. This is also permitted by the fact that we have grown to trust our playerbase in matters of roleplay. As such, instead of a long and arduous process for applying, you can apply for a whitelist by simply replying to this thread. The applications will be processed at a relatively rapid pace from then on. Best of luck! With this in mind: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1663 I can never really tell if you're just a low-key troll/chucklefuck, or really don't understand what people expect of you.

Fair. Ish. However also consider that we have the power to control just how much time is required to play on our server properly. This mechanic is one such control device. Which leads into this discussion becoming one of how much time do we want the average player to be able to dedicate to Aurora, in order to be a part of an enjoyable experience.

[Resolved]Staff Complaint against 1138
Skull132 replied to SomeoneOutTher3's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Notes will eventually manifest into a warning if one of them is not enough to manifest in immediate action but there's a string of related ones. If you get told off by a member of staff verbally, it probably landed in your notes as well. Get told off enough times like that, you get warned and banned. Said notes may also be taken into account whenever a more severe issue of related nature appears. This shouldn't be a surprise nor a point of contention. -
[Resolved]Staff Complaint against 1138
Skull132 replied to SomeoneOutTher3's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
So staff have said that the mouse thing is not a bug, and the rules say: Which would mean that the rule implicitly says that non-bugs do not apply. Ayy, I was quoted. It's not a bug, it's an oversight permitted to exist on the count of a test implementation (that won't be run longer than a month, probably) not being worth the time to make it 100% idiot proof. That does not mean you can circumvent it liberally, however. We have administrators to cover those holes. As Delta was, in this instance. Quoting that specific rule is non-applicable, as all rules are permitted to have exceptions applied to them on a case-by-case basis. This is one such case: it is a known and accepted oversight which is planned for fixing should the vote thing pass (as the logic needed would be a bit more convoluted than is worth it on a test/beta implementation), and all players are trusted to not be butts about this oversight. Specifically joining as a mouse and insta-ghosting just to vote sounds like being you were being a bit of a butt about it. The only real question in this matter is whether or not you should have received a severe warning the first time around, as this oversight was not fully disclosed to players (well, until I can find the thread you're quoting me on, but I do believe it was deleted by Itzal for some reason). However, that is more a mistake on the part of higher administration and not Delta. And the warning may still be warranted, if your behaviour about it warranted it. Since I've not read the complaint fully, I cannot comment on it, and it's something you, Delta, and Garn should bash out. -
Announcement of Server Move (25-26MAR2017)
Skull132 replied to Skull132's topic in General Announcements
Okay, the server move has been carried out. All data and such are on the new server. If server.aurorastation.org:1234 is not working, please use host.aurorastation.org:1234. The DNS changes will kick in shortly. -
Something that might be worth considering is adding some sort of restriction to how many pylons you can spawn in a room. A static one or otherwise. Force some actual strategy in placement, instead of, "lolpylons, go!"

You too get banned. And depending on the reason, that ban will not be lifted. The system is incapable of decoupling identifiers like this, and for good reason. The chance of an erroneous match is so amazingly minute (unless you count pirated Windows, but, we're not too concerned about that). However, after thorough investigation, I've never seen your CID be used by more than one player at a time. So if it gets banned, all mirrors placed on it will be valid. And as stated, henceforth, we will not care for appeal. Nothing. First off, because it won't. Unless you do something drastic like swap out harddrives or get a new PC. Secondly, nothing unless you use one of them CID randomizers, you may just get autobanned if I ever implement that. Don't use randomizers, kids. We don't track CID changes unless we can perceive attempt to dodge punishment (like in ban appeals). If you can do one of those drastic things, it would help in the sense that we can calmly ban the offending CID without you having to worry. Anyways, the bans are lifted. You should be able to join. Please post a reply after testing, so I know whether to close this or if there's another ban I need to lift.
-
Okay, bans lifted. I managed to miss one ban while building my dossier, a very recent one, which also showcased Tamassran having been actively used in December. So it basically turned into me lifting this appeal with full admittance that you are most likely lying and are Tamassran/mittensthefeared/whoever the fuck. As such, the condition for lifting this appeal is as follows: if you get banned again for being stupid, we will not consider any further appeal from this CID, ever. No matter how convoluted of a fuckfest you manage to conjure up, and all other evidence be damned. And for ref, you are lying about your computers, and what you linked has little to nothing to do with how BYOND manages its CIDs. With that said, you should be able to play on the server again. Do not fuck up. Also, apologies if I sound bitter. This is the first time in my three years of doing this that I've been presented with a case as absurd as this.
-
As discussed in a thread posted around December, we will be moving servers to a more powerful host. The move is planned to take place on the 25th and 26th of March. During that time, server.aurorastation.org may not work, depending on how fast DNS changes propagate. There's also the ever-present chance of catastrophic failure! A few things to note is that the server is hosted in Germany, and this does mean that there will be a slight increase in ping for American players. Though, during testing, once the :ree:-factor was overcome, majority of the playerbase were fine. Any edgecases should also resolve themselves when we're not actively shoving 60+ people onto the server who all want fresh resources at once. And in case it doesn't work out for whatever reason, I'll keep the old server in my back pocket for the next month. Contingency plans are nice to have. That's about it!
-
Appeal denied.
-
Uh. In my opinion, a week ban would have been more appropriate considering you broke the same rule twice within 48 hours.
-
A link would be nice, though as far as we're aware, this doesn't affect the CID. A phone being plugged in doesn't generate a vnet adapter either. It's just another USB device that does nothing to the files/registries BYOND reads from. I can be found on the public discord, here: https://discord.gg/N2efpC4 Look for King Buttebot, with the rank of Grandpa. And no, I'm not joking.
