[Resolved] Staff Complaint: OneOneThreeEight/Scheveningen
Skull132 replied to Brightdawn's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I, too, read it. I've also been tracking you and Delta on Discord, so I'd like to think I'm up to speed on what's going on. And I concur with what Hive (ew), Voltage, and Garn have already stated. The main misgiving about Delta as a mod, for me, is that he tends to push a little too much when the effort isn't required. So as Hive said, he should take a chill pill and lower his guard. However, this doesn't really make this complaint actionable, as the primary conflict between you two is the fault of both of you. Bright, you are incredibly snide in discussions/arguments and resort to veiled ad-hominem, passive-aggressiveness, and deflection the moment you are required admit you're wrong. There are only two strategies for dealing with people like you: pull the ejection lever on the seat and leave the conversation, as the opposition has no good will and thus the conversation is poisonous; or fire back. Guess which one Delta does, within the confines of the rules. (And I do mean, within the confines of the rules: were this not the case, both of you would be gone.) It is not required for staff to be paragons. We meme, we curse, we get heated. We act like humans. There are lines, yes, but they're not as strict as you wish them to be, nor do they protect you from consequences of your own actions. Generally speaking, staff are allowed to get heated in debates and discussions. Staff are allowed to call people out on their bullshit. In doing so, staff are not ever required to sugar coat any of it. Be respectful if acting in official capacity, yes, but this rule is not commonly breached by Delta (toed, yes, but not actually destroyed as you make it out to be). Understand that respect is a two-way road. TL;DR: Delta needs to chill when responding to complaints and bans in certain cases, you need to realize your own actions and stop using it as leverage against people. As has already been stated. -
[Accepted] Unban request for ISplendid
Skull132 replied to Splendid's topic in Unban Requests Archive
You were, though. The ban logs are quite clear and there's no way to generate false entries there: you were unbanned in April of 2015 (ban reason: "Griefer", ban placed by Omnivac), and then rebanned in August of 2015 (ban reason: what I just pasted there, ban placed by Tenenza and then mirrored by Adminbot for potential dodging). So clearly you played here inbetween April and August of 2015 and got rebanned for spouting racist shenanigans. -

Common VPN node caught a mirror. CIDs check out as unique. :ree: stop using common VPN nodes. Mirrors lifted, original ban is still active. You should be able to connect. If not, please PM me on the forums. -
[Accepted] Unban request for ISplendid
Skull132 replied to Splendid's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Original ban by Tenenza, 25AUG2015. For racist stuff, specifically: "OOC: ISplendid: ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE FILTHY MONKEYS AND SHOULD BE LYNCHED KILL NIGGERS KILL NIGGERS KILL NIGGERS . Repeatlyly in OOC." It should also be noted that you already appealed one permaban back in APR2015: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=1986&p=18911&hilit=isplendid#p18911 GarnascusShadow -
This is already a planned project that I will look into over the next month. Maybe before or after Nümap, will see. It is the personal opinion of this Head Developer that those other servers have fallen folly to rules lawyers if this is the case. Or have not wished to move away from Asimov, as may be the case in TG, for example. Lots of rules to regulate something != a solution to the issue != a decent solution. Rules should be enforced by mechanics, in this case, mechanics being the AI's abilities and lawset. Most of the restricting and unrestricting should be done via those, and not via a 30 line long wiki article dictating silicon policy (ala Yogs and TG). While I'm not saying that restricting the AI is necessarily a bad thing, they can very quickly shut down an antagonist if they discover them, I am saying that we should almost absoloutely find a way that does not entail mountains of policy about it. We have managed to avoid this specific trap for 4 years, almost half a decade. Can we please keep avoiding it?

o_boi.png.avi imma steer clear of this and bat it into the proper court. GarnascusShadow i lied. I can't not reply. I think fake chances for the sake of chances are shit. Do understand that this is coming from a person [me] who basically powergames within the confines of his RP, but still. They're fake, unnatural to the flow of the game, and place a heavy burden on new players who are not naturally aware of these things. Mechanical solutions for problems like this are a way better alternative. If any reasonable ones exist.

Ban lifted.

Will think on this. Though a great benefit from the holochapel is the ability to map in things like lore specific chapel setups. You could be an unathi shaman on a holodesert altar, for example. Which is pretty neat and hard to achieve without holochapel. One thing worth considering is giving the chaplain a private holodeck, so to speak. So what the public does with the public deck doesn't disrupt his own work. But then you'd still have the power problem.

[Resolved] Using Powers to Metagame - Alberyk
Skull132 replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Considering the visible aggression with which Hive entered this complaint, I'm half tempted to request they address this before we sign off. -
I thought I shitposted here. Obviously the solution is to port the Tokamak/R-UST from Europa and use that so no one is happy.
-
Will ponder, it might be possible to put it up for vote or some such, we'll see. But we aren't touching this until the release of nümap NLT 15JUL2017. Addendum: I promise nothing and I do maintain that SM is more nuanced which is neat.

Well, it says you and him use the same PC. Ban's old enough and there are no other notes, so I've lifted it. If you have trouble connecting, send me a forum PM. -
Actual Punishment Ranks and rules on the main Discord.
Skull132 replied to Brightdawn's topic in Completed Projects
I'm generally against rules on Discord beyond the obvious ones. I don't know why, but I feel like rules would ruin its atmosphere and enable lawyering. Thus far, there hasn't been a major issue because of the lack of rules, IMO. The only thing worth reviewing in here is Shadow's insistence on meme-ing people who post anime or something like that. But that's up to him and Garn to bash out, IMO. ShadowGarnascus -

No, adminghost generates a logout report regardless of whether or not a jump link was used. A jump link itself generates another log. So you can distinguish between aghosts->jump and just aghost. The only downside is that there's no way of acquiring coordinates for where an aghost was terminated. Hopefully that's not necessary, however. -

Garnascus This shit can be partially verified. Adminghosting generates logout reports in the game log, and adminjumping generates logs as well. So just. Pull up round logs and do some ctrl-F-ing. If you need help, lemme know. -
Play on a weekend. So you can whine about holes.

City Council lost its main driver, Xanny. I guess no one was interested enough to pick up the mantel. Politics is a seasonal thing, there are no elections atm, though you can ask Senpai Jackboot for more information. Hall of Fame is a Garn thing. If he wants, he could probably shove it into people's throats more. The rest is suggestions, news, apps, appeals, and cumplants, which are still alive as is necessary. They're the things which need to be archived and the forum suits those just fine. The rest is idle banter (da bants) which as moved to Discord, as it's more accessible and instant there. Natural, really.

Laws fall under silicon policy, silicon policy is primarily an administrative matter. Will refer the swarm here.
