  1. I think Virology/Viruses needs a rework of some sort. I hardly see anyone playing virologist and that's probably because you hardly see anyone play virologist. They're cooped up in the sublevel away from everywhere else, pulling levers on a slot machine.
  2. I don't know if others would appreciate brain surgery being victim to RNG. I rather it be that brain surgery only has an x% chance to actually cure a particular trama instead but that would have to likely be another PR. I'll make some of the more basic depression medications a one stage recipe. Stuff that goes past curing depression, anxiety, and OCD will likely be two stage. I added some common anti-depressants to the medicine loadout, and all of them are different while still somewhat remaining true to their real life function.
  3. Overview With the new implementation of Brain Trauma, I find it would be best for the antidepressants to include some relation to it. Obviously, Lord Fowl was away ahead of me and implemented them in the update already, but not the way that I would like it to be implemented. Currently, taking antidepressants suppress brain trauma conditions, however the suppression of brain trauma is not relative to the strength and dosage of the medication much like actual antidepressants. This proof-of-concept update now introduces a framework that factors in the dosage of the medication when it comes to applying or removing brain trauma effects, as well as adds harsher penalties for missing dosages which are relative to your regular dose. Future Plans (In order of least difficult to most difficult) - Make antidepressants easier to make (one stage recipe) and more effective (lower metabolism rate). Chemists should not be punished with a two stage recipe because some RPer put "has depression" in their medical records. - Make antidepressants only cure certain brain traumas as opposed to all of them of one class of severity. Antidepressants are not magical and don't cure all your mental disorders. Some are better at relieving depression and anxiety than others that may be better at removing hallucinations or schizophrenia. - Add more antidepressants, especially psych ward strength pills that could possibly be an alternative to loyalty implants. Equalizer, anyone? Lot of RP potential, especially in a loyalist round where the entire crew is ordered to take the equivalent of obedient pills. - Add new traitor medicine that intentionally gives a specific type of brain trauma. Lot of things you can do with a schizophrenic captain, or a head of security with tourettes. - Implement side effects of antidepressants and perhaps other medicine, especially when combined with alcohol. Currently there are no downsides to drinking booze with antidepressants, or really any medication for that matter. Github Thread: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/4220 I'm currently looking for suggestions, ideas, and discussion about some of the future plans. I don't want to spend hours coding a feature that no one likes doing. All of the planned features listed above are doable and within my skill level. I just need the blessing of the userbase as well as people who handle balance.
  4. Well don't put an emag in your pocket when you're standing 1 tile away directly in from of security on code blue/red.
  5. I added directional checks. It makes it so that you can only hear (see: the a message a blind person would get) large and extra large items being removed from backpacks if you're not facing the direction. Large and extra large items can't fit in pockets anyways and the distance is only 1 tile for large items and 2 tiles for extra large items.
  6. Another idea I have is to add an alternative name to traitor and common items, for example all IDs would be read as "an id", and on top of that the emag will also read as "an id". The cult book can be read as "a book" while all other books can be read as "a book" instead of the actual title of the book. It's unrealistic to have the specific name of small or indistinct objects like an ID or a title of a book. There's also the problem of direction. I could also make it so that messages like that are completely ignored if you're facing the opposite direction.
  7. UPDATED AS OF FEB 1ST, 2018 10:04AM PST Currently, messages are displayed to nearby players if another player puts something in their backpack. This feature is only unique to backpacks, and no other storage unit in the game. I suggest applying it to pockets, webbing, belts, and other storage units with respect to the item's weight. It makes absolutely 0 sense that I can't notice that someone placed an arcane tome in their pocket, especially when I'm directly in front of them, looking at their character. This PR fixes it so that I can actually recognize that people placed an item into their pocket. You won't always get a notification when a message is placed into their pocket or storage devices; Messages are based on distance, angle, and the size of the item. For example, for the This is how it intends to work out in terms of distance, messages, and angles. I made a PR already but apparently it's controversial ( Link: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/4206 ) and more in-depth feedback is required regarding the balance. Please only discuss the code itself there, and not the actual concept. Use this thread to discuss the concept and balance.
  8. where is [my character] smh
  9. This whole segment is completely unrelated to the complaint, but I'll tell you what. You say Im too immersed with roleplay, and care too much about my own immersion being broken. The situation you were refering to was ahelped by someone, and I was observing. And at that time, I was enforcing OOC rules that applied for the diona species. You can roleplay IPCs like army grunts, Tajara as emotionless robots or Unathi as brain damaged infants if you so please, I really couldnt give two shits about it. You roleplay how you want, but you are expected to do it in a way that is in accordance with the rules. Because as I see it, your final line there basically state that you will break rules for convenience, and that is infact, an OOC problem. Except there were no OOC speak about rules about Dionaea at that time. No where was it stated that Dionaea are forced to talk slow, it was people's own headcanon that was later dismissed by the lead DIonaea developer. If you want to simplify it to "breaking rules for convince" then sure, let's call it that. I'm being incredibly generous when I'm using the phrase "breaking immersion" because it's minor stuff that only admins would just PM you about and barely anyone would complain about. If my character is inconveniencing the roleplay of others because of a trait, or flaw, that I have, then I would temporarily remove that trait in order for others to have a pleasant and thorough roleplay experience. For example, my Unathi character developed and illness that they need medication for. The chemist was incredibly busy dealing with more important situations, so you know what I did? I made an excuse not to take the meds I normally take. That may break immersion for one player who knows that I normally take medication, but it makes the chemist's job much easier when they don't have to deal with making cosmetic medication. People play on Aurora to have fun. Reasonable fun. Sometimes, immersion need to be sacrificed in order to have fun. For example, coalf ,the absolute madman, adminbussed (with a democratic vote) a green tajara named "OwO" into medical who had several types of brain damage due to the sprinting brain damage bug. It was funny as hell, but of course immersion was broken, but who cares? Medical had fun, security had fun, anyone watching had fun. With this mindset in playing for about 6 months I think, I have received only 1 complaint in LOOC about it, and that was because of a glitch during an event that prevented me from using autohiss due to a race change. It was barely a complaint in the first place, it was just "Your lack of autohiss is triggering me."
  10. I did not pay attention to the first "Stay on the shuttle" order at the first part of the chat for the reasons given; The next was slanted so I did not bother to read it until it was too late and I ended up reading it again, which prompted me to say "Oh." and then stand still because of the "Do not move" order. I also proceeded to type "What about the acid on the shuttle?" but was cut off because I was being beaten to death with the energy sword. It's a huge dick move at the end of the round. Your entire justification for this is using lore as an excuse and not accounting the actual players behind the screen. You say that the "deathsquad" is "loyal to NT, and if they deemed it necessary to shoot you, then that's that." when Deathsquad are whitelist-free ghost roles that were only chosen because they wanted to fuck shit up. You can't give players with loyalty implants a free pass to do questionable things as loyalty implants, spoiler alert, aren't advanced enough to affect every single thought and action of a player OOCly. You also bring up the fact that people are racist and would be happy to kill a nymph or an IPC like a rat for no raisin when rule wise you just can't do that. I mean if you want me to go down that road too, I can use lore to defend myself as well and possibly land that deathsquad officer out of a job. I, a partial gestalt who is only missing what would mechanically be 1 or 2 limbs, survived a direct encounter with an Alien invasion. I currently have the knowledge of their neurotoxin spit, their ways of reproducing, and their biology. I've seen the Aliens in combat, hell I even fought one. That is some valuable information, even if it is partial due to the loss of 2 nymphs. The survivors have the combined knowledge of reinforcing and saving future billion credit research stations to come. Hell, I could just straight up explain my actions ICLY that I was a survivor and so focused on salvation, that I wanted to get off that shuttle that, to my knowledge, was currently melting from an acid attack that the commanders straight up knew about . ERT are trained in dealing with survivors, especially important assets. Even if I was classified as an animal, it is incredibly stupid to injure or harm an important asset that was obviously ordered to be recovered since the ERT purposefully waited around and tried rescuing survivors. I genuinely think you are too immersed in the roleplay to think about things OOCly. I still remember me playing as a DIonaea Roboticist, and robotics was bombed and there were 10 people in the room, including engineers and security, making all the noise in the world and interrupting movements, making it difficult for me to do my job. The Captain and HoS wanted me to borg someone, while at the same time wanted me to explain why a borg was malfunctioning. I then typed out clear and concise messages because I wanted to give security something to do instead of waiting, and I wanted to get back to the malfunctioning borg who was currently sitting there, doing absolutely nothing because their battery was removed and roleplay with it was halted. Apparently me talking like a human "broke your immersion" and so you warned me for talking normally as a dionaea during a critical moment where it would hinder other people's experience if I talked like a Dionaea. You didn't seem to care about any of this and told me to play a less stressful job next time, despite how this is a one in a thousand scenario worst-case-scenario for a roboticist. The warning was later removed because the loremaster said Dionaea can talk any way they want but it is a prime example of focusing more on IC than in OOC. If me breaking immersion would vastly benefit five people and hinder the immersion of one, then I would do it a million times.

The steel chair has been hit by Cmdr Tower with the energy sword. On the evac shuttle, the hull seemed like it was about to breach to an acid attack so I went inside the ERT lobby. I payed no attention to the slanted text (As in, I didn't even bother to read it) because I thought they were talking on their headsets (as it was slanted, thin text) however I realised that wasn't the case. I stopped moving when Cmdr. Tower told us not to move (and typed "Oh.") but then he started to stab me with an energy sword, which brought me to 20% health, so I then started retreating back to the shuttle. If it wasn't for his 2 misses on the chair, I would've died. Even when I was moving back to the shuttle, he was chasing me down, as proven with him hitting the chair I was crawling under. It wasn't just me that tried getting off the shuttle. At least 2 other humans tried getting off but they were thrown back into the shuttle without injuries or pain. Doesn't make any sense that Minor Assault isn't fine to break but Animal Cruelty is. I decided to ahelp this because there was no logical reason why they would do this, especially to a nymph. Even considering the situation, it was still a totally dick move (especially considering I followed the "Nobody move" order) and there were a million other ways for them to deal with me that didn't involve an energy sword. I would've ignored it if it was just a single hit, but that person chased me down even as I was moving back into the shuttle, as proven by the fact that I went left under a chair. PM to-Staff : Yo, can you talk to Cmdr Tower? Almost killed me for no logical reason. Your adminhelp will be tended by pratepresidenten. Please allow the staff member a minute or two to write up a response. Ali Holmes says, "Neat." -- Click the Primary Admin's name to reply -- [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: Context? to Pratepresidenten: Yeah like he said no one to leave the shuttle while I was already leaving the shuttle and he just started beating me with a laser sword. Almost killed me. to Pratepresidenten: Not even a second passed before he started doing that. [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: I mean, when NT top murdersquad tells you to do something, you do it at the speed of light [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: ..even if you're a slowass diona to Pratepresidenten: No hold on a sec, this wasn't even a second. to Pratepresidenten: It was literally him typing a message then him trying to kill me. to Pratepresidenten: And I was a nymph, not a gestalt. [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: Well.. Thats not exactly a huge loss though. Perhaps a bit rushed, but valid all things considered. to Pratepresidenten: That is not valid in the slightest. [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: Alrighty, uh. As for it not being valid, you were a "dime a dozen" nymph, with questionable levels of sentience. Was it really that bad though? I mean, I would frown upon it if you were a bipedal, but a nymph? to Pratepresidenten: Nymphs aren't rats. [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: To some they might aswell be to Pratepresidenten: They literally are not in lore. [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: IPCs and synthetics walk upright, talk and blend in with most of society, yet there are people that would bash one to oblivion and melt it down for scrap just because they're a synth, yknow? People have prejudice. to Pratepresidenten: Nymphs count as animals are are still protected under corporate regulations. to Pratepresidenten: If you're seriously setting up a precident that I can almost kill IPCs because "racism" then that is incredibly dangerous [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: People do. Not talking about you or people here spesifically, but lorewise. to Pratepresidenten: Yeah but there are some things in lore that people do but you cannot do them because it breaks server rules. [Primary Admin PM] Pratepresidenten: There isnt a whole lot more to say on the matter though. The HAPT commander is loyal to NT, and if they deemed it necessary to shoot you, then thats that. If you want to contest my verdict, you're welcome to do so on the forums. to Pratepresidenten: Uh, alright. As you might have notice, there were a lot of mistakes in my adminhelp regarding the timing of everything when compared to the logs. I believe it was about 5 seconds of grace time between the first "Stay in the shuttle." but still less than 1 second of grace time before Tower said "Nobody move." The mention of "You're supposed to have lightspeed reaction time to ERT " bothered me quite a bit given how people's ping and thought process isn't lightspeed, and the complete dismissal of the terrible escalation of force. Given how there were confusing orders in the first place, the fact that the round was pretty much over by then, the fact that the people rescued survived hell, and the fact that the shuttle seemed to be melting from acid, and the fact that there were no other visible threats to the station (ERT checked whether or not people had a disease before going on the shuttle.) There was also a mention of deathsquad when that should be thrown out the window. To me ICLY and OOCLY it was pretty much ERT wearing deathquad colors, on a rescue mission who indeed rescued people. It was understood that they were basically "ERT but with a nuke". If it walks like a duck, and it talks like a duck, it's a duck. Even considering legally I am an animal, it's a huge dick move OOCly especially considering their quarantine idea was last minute given the initial "everyone off the shuttle" idea. I think the part about Nymphs shows a complete and total lack of understanding of what a nymph is lore wise and rule wise as well as the balance between ignoring things covered by corporate regulations and enforcing server rules. While nymphs are classified as animals, they're not valid to kill like rats and you'd definitely get a bwoink if you decide to kill one if it is not harming the crew or trespassing in vital areas. While legally whether or not you arrived as a gestalt or spawned as a nymph in botany, rule wise that would be considered. Saying that "Oh people are bigoted" is a long and terrible slippery slope for kids to do stupid shit like joining every game, getting drunk and chucklefuck assaulting and harassing members of a race because "Oh because people do that in lore." Half of what was said above by Pratepresidenten was just confusing to me because it's using lore as an excuse to be a dick. Last time I checked, if you valid an IPC because your deep back-story is that an IPC killed your family and you hate them, you're going to get a bwoink. It's a case of the admin is correct in saying that the conflict is a non issue but the reasons they give are concerning and set up a dangerous precedent.
  12. It's a VERY complex issue that is very difficult to solve through simple babysitting, which is why I'm asking for suggestions because I honestly don't have a real solution to this problem. It's going to take the community to fix something like this because, yes, I agree that you can't just ban people for being a terrible roleplayer. Asking admins to intervene is, I agree, too much because of your points provided. The only feasible and realistic solution I have in my head is some sort of way for players to self-moderate themselves, with some help from the admins/mods. I had an idea where players can rate antagonist's ability to play that specific antagonist, with separate ratings for skill and roleplay, and a comments section like how most games have a "report" button. It's the equivalent of a note system but for players to provide positive or negative feedback on an antagonist so admins can look at a player and go "Hey this guy is a terrible antagonist." or "Hey this guy is well-received when it comes to antagonism." especially when there is an adminhelp about an antagonist. It's a lot of work coding wise, and it can be abused like any report system.
  13. Emphasis on proper discussion. I don't think I've ever seen a proper discussion about this sort of thing as discord usually goes a mile a minute after a round, and OOC is usually filled with salt. Bad antagonism seems to be a problem on Aurorastation and I think it really needs to be dealt with either mechanically, with conversations with antagonists, or clarifications on the rules because it seems that the rules are never enforced. Here's what I notice that happens almost every round with respect to the round type. Heist/Raider/Merc/Whatever Scenario 1: Merc team rushes spare ID on a speeder bike. They shoot on sight any security members. There is no roleplay based action between the crew and the antagonists. Security ends up killing them all one by one before the hour mark. Scenario 2: Merc team kidnaps crewmembers and makes exclusive bargaining deals with command. They torture the few kidnappers they capture and hide in their shuttle for the rest of the round. Security eventually finds their ship and kills all of them. Scenario 3: Merc team falls in a hole and dies. Malf AI Scenario 1: AI spends the next hour and a half researching things and following default laws, occasionally shocking doors and draining room of air. Metagamers blame AI, AI blames hackers and/or the jews. Scenario 2: AI does literally nothing but research all round. When the shuttle is called, they will make the shuttle hard to reach by shocking doors, blowing up APCs, creating barriers, or bolting airlocks. Ninja/Wizard Scenario 1: Spends the entire round engaging in rigorous ChairRP exclusively to command and/or security. Scenario 2: Rushes spare ID using teleport abilities and whatnot. Follows a boring, personal objective like raiding the vault or assassinating the Captain or the Head of Security. Never roleplays with the crew. SSDs when caught. Rev/Loyalist Scenario 1: YOUR PAY HAS BEEN REDUCED AND WE'RE MAKING CUTS TO SOME DEPARTMENTS. Scenario 2: Loyalists/Rev send out an unbelievably stupid fake CentCom message and the crew spends the next 2 hours believing whether or not the message is real until the Captain says "Fuck it, just ignore Centcomm messages." Scenario 3: Loyalists or Rev have to pick up the slack of the other side, as the other side is doing nothing. General Traitor Very rarely this gamemode goes wrong in a predictable way. If anything goes wrong, it's usually having to do with escalation of conflict or breaking antagonism rules. Cult: Scenario 1: There is little communication and/or leadership between cult members. Usually, lone cult members start doing stupid shit that gets them caught and/or killed. Changeling: Scenario 1: Changeling roleplays very little or not at all with their victims. They walk up to them, paralyze their victims, drag them to maint, and absorb them one by one. Scenario 2: Changeling just goes around stealing DNA passively from other players. Less roleplay, more focus on extracting genomes. Vampire: Scenario 1: Vampire uses deception ability to silence people. They suck the blood from them. Tell them they fell and hit their head. Medical spends the next hour handing out iron pills while groaning OOCLY. No roleplay takes place except for the paranoia of a blood thief. Scenario 2: Same as above, except they go hulk and murderbone security trying to take them down with tasers and stun batons. Another problem is that most times, if not always, the roleplay created by antagonists is exclusive to one department, and almost always it is security and command since they're the ones who handle that sort of thing. Medical and Engineering usually get the shaft and have to deal with the gameplay effects (Wounded security, damaged station) of an antagonist wreaking havoc on the station. The only good round I've participated in that wasn't an event was when a rich command-level catbeast bought the station and made everyone pledge their loyalty to him, while also hosting a grand banquet for his marriage. I'm not asking for that amount of effort in rounds, I'm asking for a solution to two core problems that happen in almost every single bad antagonist round: Selfishness in RP and Selfishness in Action. Selfishness in RP would just be doing chair RP with one single person, or having your actions only affect the roleplay of a few small members in a very small departmental bubble. Selfishness is super noticeable in one-antag rounds (Ninja/Wizard) or antag leader rounds (Rev/Loyalist/Cult/Merc/Raider) but less notable in other rounds with multiple, usually solo, antagonists such as traitor. Selfishness in Action would just be spending the majority of the round pursuing your self-assigned objectives (raid the vault, murder security if they get in the way) or pursuing your mechanical objectives (ABSORB EVERYONE'S DNA) without providing some benefit to other players. Possible Solutions - Antag bans/warnings for bad antagonism. Warnings/bans are usually only handled out when the antagonist murderbones people, but not when they break the rules on antagonism and conflict. - Introduce some sort of karma system that players can influence by rating people's ability to play antagonist. People with low karma have a less likely chance to get an antagonist roll than people with high karma. - Remove wizard/ninja completely and implement the equipment in autotraitor. One-traitor gamemodes are almost always shit because they rely exclusively on that person's ability to roleplay and play. - Rework changeling (Only can be coded when all the planets align, and on a bloodmoon.) Thoughts?
  14. If I'm being vented (entire bridge set to panic siphon), and the only way for me to escape is to use a nearby fire axe for its intended purpose (getting through the shutters)... then it stands to reason I'd use them It was announced over comms. Like, by both the malf AI (as part of its gimmick) and the crew. Literally got told to do something about cameras, and ISD was busy helping the Captain not die. No I didn't. Are we sure we're talking about the same round? I specifically made a mental note in my head that an Internal Affairs agent was powergaming like crazy during that round.
  15. Only negative experience I had icly with him is that when the Captain's quarters was being drained of air, and his first instinct was to get in a soft suit and destroy all the cameras with a fire axe. Like there were no mentions of a rampant AI or anyone exploiting the Cameras, he just decided to destroy the cameras. It might've been dealt with because he gave up on that endeavor 2 or 3 cameras in.
  16. I suggest seriously using the skill system as a base for this knowledge as well as the requirements. I'm not talking about full mechanical implementation, but something that is incredibly realistic for their age and species. https://i.imgur.com/SfVPtqn.png For example. a 20 year old Unathi with these skills can be an Assistant, Cargo Tech, Cadet and Security Officer. Nothing else as she would fail the botany/hydro test and she doesn't have any skills therefore no degrees. https://i.imgur.com/XRA0UTW.png For example, a 237 year old Dionaea with these skills can be a Cook, a Scientist, a Roboticist, a Doctor, a Chemist... Obligatory "REEEE THE SKILLS ARE OUTDATED", they are but I think they are a good base for choosing which jobs a person can take. Perhaps someone with a lot of time on their hands and approval can rework the skill system so instead it's just checkmarking occupational requirements such as "Spent 2 weeks as a cadet" or "Spent X years getting an Y degree" It's basically an automatic mary sue detector. I also like to headcanon my own lore where NanoTrasen is big/secure enough to force/allow people to work the odd job, such as a normal Sec Officer working as a Cook if there are too many Security Officers.
  17. Jackboot had a conversation with Garn and realistically there is no feasible way that there can ever be a Guwan security officer as a Guwan conviction requires a i200 or i300 equivalent crime, and i200 and i300s pretty much disqualify you to become a sec officer. Currently reworking the story right now to remove Guwan elements.
  18. This isn't necessarily true, and I think it's more of a misunderstand if I'm honest. The Izweski call them "backwards savages" not because of their caste system, but because of their problem with technological advancements. They want control of the planet and used Skrell/human help to further this goal. That's it really. Yes there could be people who don't agree with the government, as you stated, but that doesn't mean they are going to break tradition to express this. That is what makes Unathi Unathi. Even the Ouereans respect old customs, they're just slightly more liberal and understanding than those on Moghes (which, again, has nothing to do with the Izweski and instead is because of humans and skrell). Heck, the Izweski even attacked human/skrell ships orbiting Ouerea because they wanted those people under their rule as well. The problem is that so far it's been a little far-fetched. That is what most have been pointing out. Not her clan so to speak, but some of the rest of it. As someone pointed out, it's odd she is ok with being a Guwan when it is the worst thing that can happen to an Unathi. It's odd that a female is allowed so much education, money, etc. If she's visiting librarys (Especially one called "The Great Moghean Library" it is probably in Izweski territory. If this is the case, she is subject to Izweski rule right? I know you said you like the lore, but hate how they fall under a single Archetype. I can respect trying to break the mold and do something different, but they are that Archetype for a reason. It's not because the lore is too loose, but because it is so specific that they are forced into similar behaviors across characters. It's what makes them them. Male characters are all generally going to be very honor-bound while females are milder and do not do fighting/listen to the patriarchy, etc etc. That is just how Unathi are. I think I did a pretty swell job answering everyone's questions in here and improving the application with people's concerns and queries. I'm taking the people's silence after I've answered questions as acceptance or indifference. To me this whole thing doesn't seem far fetched given how this very thing happens in reality and makes sense in the lore. I feel that it is only far fetched as no one has ever done something like this, probably due to players wanting to be unathi after seeing a unathi behave and display the typical tribal attitude typical in games with lizards in them. I don't think anyone reads the lore first and then wants to make a character because the lore inspired them to, like I did. I don't know where you're getting the idea that she is okay with being Guwan. She isn't okay with being Guwan, that's part of the reason why she's running away and not facing death or retribution for something she believe she should not face death or retribution for. Also that last part isn't true. There's actually an unathi religion that believes that in some cases male unathi can be trapped in a female unathi body and therefor be treated as a male, as I was told on discord.
  19. The Izweski don't have Ouerean ideals. The reason Ouereans think the way they do is because of the human and Skrell that inhabited the planet with them. The Izweski still have the same social caste/gender superiority system that the Traditionalists do. The biggest point of contention between the groups is the rapid modernization of technology, that the Izweski were/are capitalizing on to subjugate the other major clans, because of human/skrell contact. This alone states that there is a cultural rift between the Hegemony and Ouereans. If their beliefs were the same, why would it be difficult for them to reintegrate together? Ouereans are essentially Unathi with human and skrell ideals. I think this only proves how unspecific the lore is given how there are two completely different depictions of Izweski. In one section, Izweski are labeling the Traditionalists as savages for ignoring progress while in another they're apparently in a cultural rift despite their stance on the war that supported Humans and Skrell culture. But let's pretend for a moment that Izweski had the same view of the Traditionalists. I absolutely refuse to believe that there isn't any sort of ideals of non-traditionalism given how poorly it has worked out in recent past, especially given how the Traditionalists are seen as dropping the first atomic bomb. In every single instance of real-life history where the current government is enforcing ideals that are detrimental, or seen to be detrimental, to the rights and freedoms of its citizens. It's how the liberal movement started in America, it's how Communism started in Russia. "Varies across Clans" is very important. It means that I could make a clan from the top of my head that can enforce any vast array of ideals, as long as it's believable. This clan I made, that my character belonged to, is a Traditionalist heavy clan that doesn't like social/political progress unless it benefits their social/political agenda. They're willing to let a woman learn how to read if it means that the things that are read would benefit their agenda. Like I mentioned, this happens all the time in reality.
  20. are you okay absolutely everything about this post is wrong i don't even know where to start so let's just go on order of most severe bullshit to least severe bullshit That is not even what happened in regards to tajara lore, I was a brand new player and I'm like "I'm going to apply for tajara whitelist" and had the idea "I'll just make a character with human mannerisms and human behavior as I am new to RP and it should be easier for me" and turns out that's against the whitelist application guidelines so you know what I did? I didn't make a tajara whitelist, I didn't insult or bitch about the lore, I didn't call the lore autistic because that would just piss people off. I even complemented the barrier because it made sense that furries would just do that and not give a shit about the lore. I made a Dionaea whitelist instead because it's much more open ended, free, and interesting in terms of lore and from what I'm hearing I'm doing pretty damn good holding onto that Dionaea whitelist. The worst complaint I've received is "He is a... interesting character." Like honestly the fact that you mention how I couldn't give a rats ass to write up the lore for the tajara app and all that actually false grudge garbage is just completely invalid given how much actual effort I made writing up this whitelist and how much effort I've made vehemently defending this whitelist. I think you need to realise that people can learn how to RP and contribute to the game when given time on the server. For example, my character Diamond with Flaws story went from a lame ass "He's a spiritual Dionaea who spews Confucius quotes." to a more interesting "He's a medical student with a shitton of debt and NanoTrasen is exploiting him for his money, so he works hard trying to repay nanotrasen so he can live a debt-free life while still trying to be moral." Maybe you need to re-read the history of Unathi, perferablly the Contact War which is the biggest part of history for Unathi. And guess what, the Izweski won the war. Their ideals would've conquered over The Traditionalist Coalition's ideals. There would've been remnants of Izweski ideals still in Moghes to this day. It's only been 8 years since then so unless every single Izweski fucked off to Ouerea, then it makes perfect sense for a female unathi to develop Izweski/Ouerean ideals when exposed to ideas of "Hey, the daily beatings you receive are not normal. The terrible attitudes you get on the street is not normal. Traditionalists are awful people."
  21. At this rate I'm going to have to write up how my character learned how to eat food. While I understand the idea of "rebellious child/teenager" I feel that the way Unathi are brought up from a young age (especially in traditionalist families) puts a limit on just how rebellious one would behave. Angsty outbursts would but little more than just.. angsty outbursts. Females especially are shoe-horned into a specific role in society (on Moghes anyway) and while they can want more or disagree with their family or beliefs it's unlikely they wouldn't just keep their head down and follow along regardless. I just thought it was made clear that she actively opposed the ideals. The revised backstory documenting the abuse should make that obvious now. I'm still not understanding how she has a fund to begin with. Females don't work on Moghes, and unless she is stealing it in general I'm not really certain where the credits are coming from. I wasn't questioning how much she was making, I was questioning how she was making credits period. I didn't think that I would have to document where she got the money. I assume it could be an allowance or small amounts of work or favors she performed given her age. While still living in a home with males, housework would not occupy most of her time. I see where you're coming from now, but why would she be allowed to further educate herself outside of these lessons? Others would see her in this Great Library and it would raise problems with more than just her family. Remember, Females are discouraged or downright forbidden to seek higher education in such a way. Most institutes like this were run by clans or guilds to my understanding and it was only recently that schools and such even started opening up to allow others outside the clan/guild to attend. Only those with Traditionalist Ideals would take issue with a female learning how to read. I imagine not every single Unathi would take issue with this. Most they would do, given the political atmosphere, would give a glare and move on. I imagine that Traditionalists don't visit the library that often due to their small minds. This furthers the question on how she was given the opportunity to go out and educate herself if her father is as controlling as he's made out to be. Why would he let her wander off alone? Wouldn't she be made to stay and learn how to behave as a proper female if she's shown consistent signs of not doing so? Unathi place a heavy emphasis on their social structure and it feels like this is being omitted in some way throughout the entire thing. The father wouldn't know about her going out and educating herself on other cultures. I suppose I could include that in the backstory that during lengthy errands, she would take out books from the library. I can see that you've done research, I wasn't exactly saying you hadn't, but it still feels like you aren't getting what makes Unathi Unathi. This application is better than the first, I don't want it to seem like I'm just here trying to shit on the application (quite the contrary, I'm trying to give constructive criticism), but there is something about the character that just.. doesn't come off as Unathi to me. I like Unathi lore a lot, I really do, but I absolutely do not like how Unathi have to be seen as this one archetype when there's an entire culture (Ouerean) who have respect towards women like advanced cultures do. That might be the issue for you because a lot of people have issue with this character for the reason of "Oh it's not like most Unathi where they're not throwing spears, throwing insults at Guwan, and being a traditionalist."
  22. +1 Overall, everything is good. Story is a little too heroic for my tastes but shouldn't be an issue.
  23. I will add the household abuse officially to the backstory. Guwan doesn't mean you're a criminal mastermind who relies on criminal activity to make a living. Guwan to the Unathi means "This person committed relatively serious offense, serious enough to warrant an exile, and therefore is scum of the earth." Young children tend to be rebellious at a certain age, especially if their parents are abusive or unwelcoming compared to the alternative ideology that they're exposed to. It happens all the time between generations, especially this irl one where the refusal of traditions is at all time high in youth. As for her finances, this character started a fund at the age of 16, and had it for a whole 4 years. Even at 10 credits per day (which is nothing) for 4 years is a total of 14,600 credits, which is more than enough for paperwork and shuttle expenses (based on cargo's shuttle costs). As for her reading, her private lessons required the knowledge on how to read, as traditionalist tutors and materials were very hard to come by after the war given its outcome and attitudes towards it. The act was protested but there was virtually no other easy way to have these special teachings that were meant to correct her behavior and dislike of traditionalism. It's not too far fetched as the late era of slavery in the United States, similar things were happening where slave owners would allow priests to teach the slaves to learn how to read so they could read the bible. As for nanotrasen, Guwan Unathi are actually hired by NanoTrasen for cheap and easy labour, according to lore nerds in discord. I've done my research on the species. I've went the extra mile to even ask people in discord about things that weren't specified on the wiki. I daresay that I have a pretty solid understanding of the Unathi.
  24. Her father is manipulative, controlling, and I would say the incarnation of a Stephen King abusive religious father. She's not going to kill people if it reminds them of her father, most she would do it probably stunbatton them one extra time or lay down some exposition if their flavor text is lengthy enough because I'm not going to use RP as an excuse to murder someone as a non-antag. I was told by the lore nerds on discord that assaulting your father is guwan worthy.
