In addition, reading about the actions that followed has me very shocked that a captain, who also happens to be a moderator, reacted to criticism in such a fashion.

That's why duty officers exist! If you think lawyers are disrespecting protocol or neglecting their duty, you should absolutely report it to their superior, and if that doesn't work, make an incident report.
