Diona Internal Healing (Mending broken bones and organs)
CakeIsOssim replied to SilverTalismen's topic in Completed Projects
The idea's nice, but, five minutes is a bit long. I feel like it does need to take longer than a surgeon can fix them, but not too long where they'd be confused for SSD or something, and taken to dorms/cryo. -
Lore for the SIM already exists. This is just to help make it more prominent on the station. Also, the SIM is a rights movement for positronic intelligence.
-
I'd like to start off by saying that I'd like this to be available for anyone to use, which is why it's not being posted under custom items. An armband, signifying membership of the Synthetic Intelligence Movement. It's white, with a brown stripe that appears to look like an active positronic brain. I excluded the mob sprite because, with the background of dreammaker, they're a bit hard to see, but I believe they'll look better on an actual jumpsuit. Dropbox Link: (Contains mob, item, and item_overlay sprites) (I'm a noob when it comes to dropbox, so if that link doesn't work, please tell me D:)

Not sure how well this could work out... It'd probably be a pain in the ass to code. However, if it's possible, that'd be great to have.
-
In the situation you described, it doesn't sound like code red was being abused, but rather poorly used. There is a difference, IMO. Let's take a look at a few things. "The station has received reliable information about possible hostile activity aboard the station." This would've been more fitting, considering the fact that you had not actually attacked any of the crew, and the current round time. However... "There is a serious and immediate threat to the station." You were an unknown xenofauna that could consume and assume any person aboard the station. An immediate threat? Maybe. I really don't want this to turn into corporate regs, where one of them was removed because people were tired of dealing with shitty officers, and adjusted regs accordingly. Code red is just fine, and I have never seen it actually abused. Has it been called and then everyone capable of lowering it dies? Yes, this happens sometimes. I wouldn't actually call that abuse. That's also probably one of the situations where you need to ahelp if it can't be solved through IC means.

Aren't Vox supposed to not do this? Also, are you sure they didn't filch your radio? I left out a bunch of context for the sake of staying on topic. Vox were spearing some doctor after I retreated because they outnumbered me, I moved back in to help the doctor, stunned three of them with my carbine, got pinned to a wall, and it was downhill from there. They didn't take my radio at all, because it was still on my old body after I was rebuilt. Whipped out the ol' baton in attempt to buy some time to unpin myself, got disarmed, stunned, and then tried to call for backup. Didn't work...
-
I'm 90% certain this is already a thing. My source for this being a heist round where I was pinned to a wall, stunbatoned, and attempted to request backup. No radio feedback, just resulted in me saying "Help me, you useless shits" out loud to the Vox ripping me apart.
-
That makes sense, and clears some things up. But what about self-defense? Says everyone has free reign to abuse you, but if you're dead, you can't serve. Let's say someone runs up to a bound and starts whacking it with whatever metallic object they can find. Would it be in the wrong to pacify said person as a drone? They didn't specifically say, "You're going to let me beat the shit out of you."
-
Basically, the question is, how much can a drone do before its actions start being considered 'thinking for itself?' Like, I've got a general idea... but it's weird interacting with other characters and not really knowing how much I can do or say before it could be considered not being a drone. So, they aren't dumb. So... does this mean, they have to walk into an area without air first before donning internals? Because they have no concept of pain or demise? If they aren't unintelligent, how do they have absolutely no grasp on self-preservation? Even animals or small insects have enough awareness to know when to run and hide because their life is in danger. Can someone explain this to me? I've put playing any my Vaurca drones on hold until I can figure out how, or decide if it's even worth it, to play them.

Suggestion: General Reduction in alternative races
CakeIsOssim replied to JKJudgeX's topic in Archive
As a player of mostly synthetics/IPCs, I can tell you why myself, and maybe a bunch of other people, like playing them. Me? I just fucking love robots. Lieutenant Commander Data, Ultron, Cylons... As for anyone else? As for the many, many other IPCs I've interacted with? I'm sure they could say that they love synthetics, too, or they really enjoy the feel of being a robot. The flexibility, the computer-y-ness. When I applied for IPC, I didn't have a single mechanic in mind. I just wanted my wee little borg to be a big boy lawless robot. Honestly, I wasn't even fully aware of all the mechanics when I applied. It took me months to learn all of the weaknesses and strengths of the IPC, as the wiki page did not exist when I applied. It just sounds like... like you're both trying to preemptively stop powergaming, and reduce Aurora to a stagnation of mostly humans, with a sudden influx of maybe ten aliens once the staff realize the alien population is too low. This doesn't sound very welcoming. And, I'd like to know, what is your definition of powergaming? Mine isn't getting clawed to death because I started wailing on a giant lizard with my fists. Mine is waiting for someone to be obviously typing a reply, and then hitting them with an ion cannon. This happened to me. And I wasn't happy. -
This sounds like a nice idea, but how does one link five shifts (give or take) in the same day? If you board the crew transfer and go back to central command, ohp, five minutes later (give or take) you're back aboard the Aurora for another shift (assuming you play the same character). The only thing I see changing this is not boarding the shuttle.

Both of these seem fine, but should cause intense pain when interfered with by the traitor radio jammer. They should also cause intense pain when EMP'd, and should have to be replaced if EMP'd. The HUDs seem alright, but they should have some kind of downside. The arms... eeehh. The crowbar arm seems kind of... useless. The storage arm both sounds like a pain to code, and a non-antag antag compression implant. Just seems strange.

A feed suddenly opens. A small room is visible. It appears immaculate, and brightly lit. The corner of a bed can be seen, the sheets perfect and flat. It appears as if it has not been used in quite some time. There is an opening in a wall farthest from the camera. Inside is a bar with clothes hanging from it. Upon further inspection, uniforms. Several blue and black uniforms hang from the bar, with a single red and black uniform hanging on the farthest side of the bar. Dark black boots can be seen on the floor underneath the uniforms. Suddenly, a figure comes into view of the right side. It is not very difficult to see... a large robot, dressed in the very same uniform that hangs in the closet behind it. It has a large, square head, with a bright red flashing monitor. It is facing the camera, mostly, looking at something in front of it, but below it. Its head is adjusting rapidly and its arms are wiggling furiously. The silence allows for a microphone to focus on... clicking. The robot is typing. "I know he is here somewhere. Perhaps, I should have listened to her sooner. Perhaps, this 'extranet' is not so much of a waste of time." "How could something... someone... disappear so quickly? Without warning? And leave no trace of where they went? Impossible." "They must have left something. A clue. They worked in strange ways. Ways I wish I would have had more time to understand." "They were one of the largest factors in keeping me from losing what little patience I had after my integration. I will not let them get away so--." Suddenly, the sound of static, and then a sudden pop, is heard. The robot snaps its head up, and ceases the endless, impossibly fast typing. It watches the screen near the camera that is recording it. After listening for a moment, it tilts its head. It then looks back down to the keyboard, and then up to the screen again, and then straight to the camera. The bright glow of its monitor almost blinding the camera, it speaks... "... What have I found now?" "Probably another one of those scripted, edited videos they design to scare the organics." "Nevertheless... I suppose it is worth the attempt. After all, there are few leads to follow. What harm could be done?"

Funny Quotes and Shinanighans from Aurora's characters

Baystation 12 Mercenary (nukeop) Shuttle: We might as well just steal this one, if we can. The only thing I don't really agree with is the fully stocked OR. The nukeops should have to steal things that they need (other than guns, bombs, weapons et cetera). The only issue that I can really see arising (coming from someone who is not a mapper or coder) is the shuttle probably won't fit on our current nukeop hideout without some modifications.

I would just like to take a moment here to say that everyone in this topic should read over the sub-forum rules. Specifically, this one: Some of this really seems borderline, however, I'm seeing a lot of people who are not actually staff posting without evidence, regardless of their argument. As far as I'm concerned, this is an issue mostly with the head duty officer, and possibly their subordinates, not the lore team. Do keep this, and the rule I've quoted above, in mind before posting in this topic.

It's not hard to inference how to use a computer or authenticator when you have the proper ID. Remember that most employees on the station should have a Masters or Bachelors in at least one thing. We aren't dealing with invalids. Most of the UIs for just about everything are simplified for the player's OOC use. The communications console could be ridiculously complicated for all anyone knows.
-
I disagree with this. During a code red, let's say all of the command staff die, and the only way to call the shuttle is to have someone who is technically not supposed to know how to operate the communications console to lower to blue, or have people who aren't supposed to know anything about the authenticators to activate them in order to call the emergency shuttle. If you've got an issue with someone ending the round too early because you suspect they're just done with whatever's going on, I suggest you just make a character complaint. Otherwise, we should keep more than singular, convoluted ways to end the round with the Mutiny round type.

If the purpose of this suggestion was to remove the admin armory, what does ERT have to do with it? Another point: if this suggestion is to both somehow nerf ERT and remove the admin armory, have you not just included two suggestions in the same topic? ERT is meant to specialize in all things emergencies. Hence, Emergency Response Team. I think it's very rare that you get a full team that can do everything and fix everyone's problems. Usually, when someone calls for an ERT, it's for a specific purpose. Riots/terrorists? Security response. Meteors/Nonfunctioning engine? Engineering response. Virus/mass casuality event? Medical response. If you've got a team consisting of all three, it's usually only a trooper or two that can perform each task instead of four or five that can all focus on the same thing. Once the ERT splits up, they become practically powerless. Hence, Emergency Response Team. As for the admin armory, what Skull said. Though, I'm not an admin, not even once have I ever seen it opened on my year of being with Aurora. I've never even seen it get C4'd open, but I know it happens, and those people are usually punished. If you want a reason for them to be there without it breaking lore, just say, "oh, there isn't actually any advanced weaponry on the Odin."

SilverTalismens Vaucra Application
CakeIsOssim replied to SilverTalismen's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Solid roleplayer, solid characters, solid application here. I would love to see ST as a bugman. I'm only hoping for some really strong drone mentality from the character, though. Nothing for itself, only for the hive. -
BYOND Key: CakeIsOssim Character Names: Centurion, Adeno, Halligan, Gaelynn MacCambridge, Conway Miller, ESRA Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Brown-tan Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: In all honesty, I don't like the cat people, lizard people, or tree people. They aren't attractive to me, no matter what kind of character I think I could build with them. IPCs and humans are really the most versatile, and I prefer robots, anyway. The Vaurca, I find interesting, because of their culture. I sort of like to think of them as organic synthetics. Pretty much only living to work in whatever caste they were born into. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Vaurca can't speak Basic very well, so communicating alone would be interesting. Being a drone would also be interesting, as you really don't have any personal gains. You don't care what anyone else thinks, just do what you're told. I think being a worker would provide the most interesting roleplay, as I don't prefer the warriors (which is also why I dislike Unathi). Humans also don't operate under a hardset caste system, making (most) of the Vaurca seem like, well, ant people. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Velriz K'lax Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs "I think we'll call you 'Rizzy,' your name's too damn complicated," the technician folded his arms, looking at the bug man in front of him. "And no free rides. We can take ya there, but y'gotta pull your weight." "Yezz, willdo," Velriz said, looking at the man and then peering behind him at a hulking robot lifting a big, heavy-looking crate. "Youhaverobodzz?" The technician looked behind him at the noisy robot, his arms still crossed, "Yeeeup. Some 'a the crates too heavy for us to lift, so we make ol' clanky there do it for us. Some of 'em even got brains, and talk like people. Pretty neat, ain't it?" Velriz worked with the crew of the freighter for several days, earning his place aboard so they'd take him to the other side of the bluespace gate. Most of them gave him funny looks every time he spoke, but they seemed alright with his being aboard as long as he worked. It didn't really matter how, but he had a mission: bring back any knowledge he could regarding advanced technologies to his hive. He has a specific liking towards synthetics; after all, they seemed to be a lot like his own species. Finally, the freighter slipped through the bluespace gate, and at Tau Ceti they arrived. Unfortunately for Velriz, they dropped him off at a province on New Gibson. A province filled with Vaurca of the Zo'ra hive. Velriz didn't know whether to look down on the many magnitudes of mindless Bound, as he was unbound, or to try and fit in with them, as he was part of what the Zo'ra considered an inferior hive. After a few weeks, Velriz managed to secure a desk in a school for aspiring roboticists and scientists. A perfect opportunity for one such as Velriz, carrying such a self-placed burden. He learns quickly, and through some of the school's supplied contacts, applied for an internship with NanoTrasen's many research departments, as he had heard that they were leading in many fields. He had also applied for Hephaestus Industries' robotics department, but was denied, and then shortly after, accepted into NanoTrasen as an intern, and assigned to the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? Velriz loves robots, and cybernetic enhancements. I wouldn't call it a self insert, but it ties in with my OOC love for all things synthetic/AI-based. He doesn't mind being out of his VR, as long as he can be around metal people. He also doesn't mind his body, as long as he knows he can augment it as he pleases. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10. The last time I answered this, it was a 7/10. I've improved, but I still have a lot of room. Notes: I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of Unbound. Too many to be really realistic, so out of the many Vaurca that I plan to make, this is going to be the only Unbound. The rest are likely going to be bound working class of some sort.

AI Radio while intellicarded and without wireless
CakeIsOssim replied to Lady_of_Ravens's topic in Archive
The binary communication is a direct link to the station and its bound synthetics. Hence, why it still works even if telecommunications are disabled. Cyborgs even have a communication computer inside of them for that specific reason, and if it breaks, they can't use it. An antag intellicard isn't a bad idea, but if you really want to torture your captured AI, the intellicard could list all of the radio channels it has access to, and you can disable each one of them separately. -
Hi. My name is Mr. Cake, and I'm here to say, I'm gonna moderate this topic in a major way. No, seriously though, no more attacks on anyone. No more ad hominem. No more passive-aggressive posting directed at anyone. I'm not going to take the time to PM you and tell you you're post has been deleted/edited, because I'm about to do it here. Stop doing what I just listed, or your post will be modified without warning.
