Dono where this question belongs so I’ll throw it here. What’s the actual regulations on self testing? I ran into a cmo that wouldn’t remove someone out of genetics because they said the regulations for self testing without permission has changed. From what I understand the way it works is if you self test without head permission you are dismissed from the job. Is that no longer the case? I am confused @.@

Of all races available on this server I prefer Tajara role-play the most. Moreover the Tajara lore provides me a perfect setup for the next thing I wish to improve in role-play. Encouraged to explore education safiy attended school regularly with, according to her parents, mixed results. They were thrilled to see her coming home and explaining complex intricacies she had learned in school. They were less thrilled to see her come home and talk extensively of human culture and history. Perhaps it was luck that she was signed up for Biology 101 and history of Earth before the 1700’s during the same semester. It was these two classes together that sparked her interest in her current field. She was studying ancient human tyrannies and began noticing several Tajara parallels. During a routine medical examine she learned that she is incapable of having children of her own. I decided every character I create is going to have a specific purpose that improves my role play ability. With Safiy I am focusing on character development. I do not have her views, values, beliefs of the world set. Surely she has leniencies and tendencies but where she is now it's very fluid. I want to explore developing a character over a long run with her. Things like “will she turn her views back towards her parents and dislike human involvement on Adhomai, or will she be glad for the education Humanity gave her and encourage more involvement”. There are several cultural divides that this character is standing between(clan structure, race structure, opinion of humans). I am looking forward to developing them thus developing my ability to develop characters over an extended period of time. Skull as long as you explain your reasoning (and allow me reasonable reply) I won’t take offence to it. The point you brought up is a direct result of the situation I framed. That murder/bullshiting I do to the extent that it is a problem; that was squarely after I invested so much time in developing my character only to be told I would be perma brigged if I had a minor offence of theft in my record. I admit myself; I started just fucking with people with telescience. At which point I fully recognize why moderating action had to take place. However, my point is, all that could have been avoided if blanket policies weren’t used to play favorites and suppress my character. I was trying to develop my character and give him a reason not to do anything bad with telescience, but because I already rubbed a few people the wrong way I was threatened with permabrig every time I stepped on station on the grounds that “NT don’t hire criminals” even if it’s minor crime. The crime in question was minor theft; the murder took place after I stopped giving a shit. I stopped giving a shit because of the way favoritism and blanket policies were applied. So yes, I understand that since then me and my character became a problem, the actions I took before that incident were minor/annoying but not to the extent that required administrative action. I only started acting out because I was forced to do things with my character I was not comfortable with (up his age, erase his reports). I was forced to do that because of the way these blanket policies where being applied so unfairly. Any actions I did after that likely justified administrative action because I stopped caring about what line to cross because the line was drawn so arbitrarily and obviously biased to favorite characters.

Nano puts it pretty exact on what my original thoughts were with Travis. I was not trying to become some criminal mastermind I wanted to put something simple such as trespassing or minor theft. Last I heard trespassing and minor theft were decently minor offences. But no I was told I would be arrested and permabriged every shift if I did that. He also paints exactly what I was thinking with the jobs. My character majored in bluespace xenology, which would be a major specifically focused on how bluespace slimes(and any other bluespace creatures) work in conjunction with blue space. If you see me in xeno you would see that I usually default to other xenobiologists as knowing more and infact it’s cannon that Travis does not know a lot of other combinations. Same is true with his knowledge of atmos, the only thing he has mastered under his belt is telescience which requires advance math. I’ve been asked way to many times why I am in telescience as a xenobiologist, or told that I don’t belong in there because I’m a xenobiologst; when I put this stuff in my employment record from the beginning). I asked everyone and no one had a problem with it. Then suddenly it becomes a problem and just to avoid being job banned I had to bump my characters age up another 5 years which made me /very/ uncomfortable to play. Honestly, I think people who dislike Travis/me as a character just look for reasons to get him in trouble. 1138 why is Travis a problem when other characters can know advance triage, medicine and chemistry and also have a crossover of advance law to become HOS; not just a security officer but a god damn HOS? There are plenty of examples of this sort of cross over. I mean look at sierra with all the cross overs shes done. I think she even has like a 25 year old xenobiologst. I love sierra to death but seeing that hypocrisy is deeply upsetting and has nearly lead me to just up and quitting the game (I know it’s not her fault). So yeah, when my character gets so much flack and nearly banned while other characters get showered with love just screams favoritism and has made me pretty damn resentful. I feel really vindicated with sierras and nanos comments. You guys are putting forth the exact same arguments\examples I did when this was an issue; I was shut down harshly and nearly banned. That’s why I’m pretty comfortable calling this favoritism/hypocritical bullshit; and why I’ve been so upset by it for so long. Thank you guys. I had a whole story arch on how he is lonely and looking for a family to belong to, while excelling in a career and decide whether he wants to use telescience for the good or bad. With all the flack I’ve gotten over him and how I get mistreated for deviating just slightly, it makes this development not worth the effort. So I’ve stopped developing him, which since then has made for some pretty mediocre Rp. Anyone who’s actually sat down and RP’ed with travis before knows I had a lot more with him. Now he’s pretty reduced down to that annoying tajara lover. Edit edit** (always more to say) This conversation is perfect for now actually. 1138 what you've just said at the very end is a major issue and source of resentment, “It's up to the community to identify it themselves and take it up to the general public”. The way it works out, characters that are disliked will be dissected and picked apart, having blanket policies applied to them until that player can’t play their character; While leaving characters that are loved by all alone so they can ignore policies all they want. That is exactly what playing favoritism and being hypocritical is. it’s severally up setting when I have to dismantle my character and play it exactly by the books because someone doesn't like it. While other characters gets to ignore the policies all they want. We can break this down two ways, either stop the favoritism (which is extremely difficult) or remove the ammo from the people who want to play favoritism (the blanket policies that are applied so arbitrarily).

So if I understand this correctly I very much agree with it. I’ve been personally denied several lore related things I wanted to apply to my character on the grounds of “NT wouldn’t hire criminals” or “it’s impossible to duel major”. In fact I’m still /really/ sore about having to bump my characters age up to a point that makes me feel really uncomfortable, simply because my character couldn’t duel major. Like, still pretty pissed about it. especially when I see other players who do the exact same thing. No player should be forced to make a change to their character that makes them that uncomfortable considering it would have only been a foot note at best. I remember I wanted to give Travis a slight security record so I would have a reason in game to calm his telescience shenanigans down. The idea was that if he knew he was being watched then he would behave better (I thought everyone who hated Travis would love that idea). But instead I got reamed by people because “NT wouldn't hire a criminal” no matter how minor the offence is. go figure. One thing I expect, someone is going to bring up snowflakyness. So I will just voice my thoughts on that as well. You can have a criminal record and still not be a snow flake. We have gotten so stuck on this notion of blanket policies that if we ease up just slightly we will not be going anywhere near snowflakyness. Guess I’m just going on a little rant too because this topic does piss me off and has made me dislike the character I play. Understand, It's gotten to the point that I dislike playing travis davis. why don't I make another character? whats the point, anything remotely out side of policies will be stricken down and I dont want to put in all that effort just for that to happen again. I don’t know if you guys remember but travis was pretty well developed with an in depth background. He had likes and dislikes, I had habits, mood swings, different dispositions. Now, not so much. Now I just play telescience to fuck with people. I stopped caring for two reasons, one is the constant hostilities on the server (there will be characters I’ve never even met that will randomly treat me like shit (I also understand that topic is being handled on another forum)), and two is because of this exact topic. I’ve had to dumb down my character because of the flack I’ve gotten for doing anything remotely outside of the strictest policies. Much of the flack came from admins, but plenty from other characters as well.

I have noticed we’ve been losing a lot of decent people due to perceived hostilities on the station. Hell it’s probably why I’ve taken such a long break on the game. For me, there’s just too many characters that are quick to call you dumb/retarded/idiot/what have you, the moment you meet them. There’s really no way to interact with that other than either not rping/ignoring them or returning the hostilities. The former is unsatisfying leaving the player to continue unimpeded. The latter will only perpetuate hostilities. I don’t think that this issue is a sinking ship but I do believe it’s an issue that needs to be resolved if we want to retain quality RP and friendly members on the server. we’re talking about the quality and design of the autistics of the ship. How do we want this ship to look like? I for one am for a more friendly environment. Where it’s ok to ask how to do a part of a job if you’re new without being threatened to be fired or cussed out for incompetency and the moment you introduce yourself your not called an idiot by security officers. This discussion isn’t going to make or break Aurora, she will remain alive in some fashion. But this will change the perception she has among the community; the quality of roleplay on the server; and the member base that staffs Aurora. Because of this I do think it’s an extremely important conversation. If we are starting to loose several quality members because of a perceived hostility that should be throwing up a red flag and we need to take a look at this issue: regardless of whether it’s simply perceived or actual it needs to be addressed or we risk losing other members.

One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: The simple answer to this question is this race suits what I like to role play very well. In all things that involve role-play (DnD, ss13, ect) I enjoy playing characters that are misunderstood to such a degree that the character appears ‘simple’ to those that don’t know him but the character has huge depth and complex reasons that explains why the character acts the way it does. The Skrell race magnifies this aspect that I like. The Skrell have a huge range of emotions that most people cannot even comprehend, and because of this many people view the skrell as simply ‘heartless’. You have to really sit down and dissect the character’s thoughts and background before you really understand what is motivating the character to behave a certain way. For the skrell, not only will the background thoughts be a driver but you will also have to work past and gain an understanding of skrell emotional ranges before you will really understand the character fully. I love this type of character. That is what hooked me to liking this race, from there it only improved. I value education and science to a great degree which is why I like the science departments in ss13 so much. The fact that the skrell are very education oriented and focus on science and technology puts the skrell race right in line with my interests. They even got religion right. Altariser, other than the baseless idea of life after death, the religion is all about improving your mind and body which I enjoy. So I’m looking forward to exploring a lot of different aspects of the skrell race. Character Name: Iqbal sharanji-zix Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Iqbal Sharanji-zix spent most of her childhood on the primary homeworld of jargon IV. Her mother was a doctor and a close follower of altasriser. Her parents had met during an Altasriser convention and quickly formed an intimate bound. As a follower of Altariser she encouraged all fifteen of their offspring to find a path in life and to improve upon it. (Note for lore writer, unclear if skrell have siblings, if not it will only be one) Iqbal took the teaching to heart and began following in her mother’s footsteps. At the young age of 20 she joined the Lith Institute of Medicine and began her study in chemistry. The change of environment was incredible for the young skrell. Before she had left Jargon Iqbal had very few interactions with other species and knew little of cultural verity. In collage she learned exactly what her path in life would be. In her second year of medicine she had joined a study group in preparation for some difficult classes. During the first meeting a human had brought home made grilled peaches and cream dessert for the group. Sure Iqbal enjoyed a variety of different food native to jargon, but never before had she tasted something so delicious. With its perfect mix of white sugary cream, succulent ripe peaches, coated with sweet honey, topped with ground almonds and grilled to perfection, every bite was an explosion of colorful taste. Iqbal was amazed something could taste so perfect. Despite her difficulty in chewing due to the shape of a skrells mouth she ate more than half of the dish herself. The very next week the group had gotten together, this time a tajara brought his own home cooked dish native to abhomi. While lacking the sweetness the grilled peaches had, Iqbal was once again astonished that a dish can have such a mix of different flavors than she was used to. She immediately began researching different foods from around the universe. She had a grasp of chemistry and understood that all food was made up of a combination of different elements. She found it amazing that something so physical could have such a mental effect on an individual. After extensive research Iqbal knew what her path of improvement would be. Unlike her parent who followed altariser path and explored physical improvements through medicine, she would explore the effects food and chemistry had on improving the state of the mind. Iqbal continued her study in chemistry; she found it vital to gain the understanding of how chemicals interacted with one another in order to explore how those chemicals could improve the state of mind. Despite the limitations of her jaw she found creative ways to try every food she could; either by crushing the food up into a paste, or mixing it with water to create a soup, she was determined to try every bite of food she could. She pursued several culinary classes and readily tasted and tried every new food. Upon finishing her college education in chemistry with several culinary certificates she was employed by nanotrasen and assigned to the NSS aurora. There she plans to use her degree in chemistry to fund her culinary pursuits. What do you like about this character? I developed this character with a focus on role-play. Rather than playing with mechanics in the game I want to focus on interactions between characters. I really look forward to being able to explore role-play with aspects I normally can’t or aren’t interested in (religion, feeding behaviors, family structures). Skrell family unit. I don’t see anywhere on the wiki that explains what a skrell social structure looks like (the social part of the wiki is really lacking). Do skrell have nuclear families with a mother a father and some children? Or is it more fishlike and you ‘ll have a mother with a batch 10,000 of eggs, if so what do the social attachments look like and how are they normally developed? If skrell have a deep range of emotions I’d expect them to have some strong emotional social attachments to specific skrell. Can someone explain this for me?

Ok this is starting to drag on, Now I’ve already posted my primary thoughts in my other two posts. I will not be repeating them here. However I do not like it when people misrepresent what I am saying. Tianvaa you have not understood most of what I have said. I know you think you do, but considering I am the one saying them and I am also saying you have misunderstood what it am saying, please take it at face value and reread/reevaluate what I have been saying. I say this because almost everything you have said is inaccurate in some way. Rather than break it all down again please go back and reread what I have said. In the meantime I will give you an example of how you are misconstruing everything I have said. The “facts” as you present them show that there has been a major miscommunication. This is but an example but it will be simple to show how you have misunderstood what I’ve been saying. It will also let me correct some quotes because I do not like it when people attribute something to me that I did not say. However there’s also a fair amount that I do rp with that actually like me. In fact if this is a complaint about my overall rp ability please frame it as such. Then give me tips on how to be a better role player, I’m always seeking to improve on that front (ask half my friends im always asking what will improve my character). Though, I ask you to provide them privately. Now since every one of these “facts” you’ve provided are wrong that means every suggestion you have that follows thereafter is also baseless. Theres more but I think the point is made. The last thing I want to address is your last statement. “I'm sure there are other things, but I think that's a decent summary. I don't want Travis gone. I want his shit to stop. I don't care how. I want it to stop. If him being gone is how it has to be done then so be it. There are other ways of handling it. That's just one, and a rather extreme way of handling it. Given your testimonies prior I don't think it would be unreasonable if it doesn't stop soon.” Tainavaa I wish you said that to me before. I told you to talk to me about this in private. I will never back down because I am not doing anything wrong. I have given countless examples and references on how my behavior is perfectly in line with anyone else on the server. So as player and a character I am in the right. To try to rob me of my fun (job ban, banned character, what have you), even while you’re gone, when I am not doing anything wrong, yes I am going to fight tooth and nail for it. But tainavaa I am also a decent human being. If you came to me and told me this upsets you and requested that I don’t do it while your on the server, I would have said ok. I would have worked something out with you so you don’t see it as much. I still feel I’m right and nothing I’m doing is wrong, but I’m also conscientious enough to understand others don’t feel that way. I’m considerate enough to less an activity that I know upsets others a great deal, because that is how I operate. I do not like upsetting people. I’m a decent human being. I would have worked something out with you. That is how I operate. That is why I wanted you to come to me in private for this discussion. We would have figured out an IC or OOC solution that we both could be happy with. Now? It’s up to doomburg, but I feel I’ve made a pretty strong argument with examples and support from other players that show I’ve actually done nothing wrong and should be free to continue as is, and it would be my decision if I want to change it for you. If you don't like it make an IC complaint.

Ok so my second address. Since my previous statement the conversation switched from “it can’t happen all the time” to “that’s all you do with telescience”, save for tinavaa who still stated that I do it all the time. I already pointed out and stressed that I do not do it any more than what is the agreed upon consensus; Stated by admins and by many people here. Most everyone thinks its ok to have fun with the pad but not more than once every few days. I meet that requirement; I don’t do this more than once every few days. I already stated that but I am reiterating it to make it clear that I am following the requirement that is given me. So now let me address the next complaint, “that’s all you do with telescience”. Frist off, this I don’t think is a problem. There are many characters who have their primary job then a secondary one that they just want have fun with (think cook and bar tender for several characters). So this idea that you have a fun job is accepted by a lot of characters. Furthermore like ejunder said, I am fulfilling the requirement that way so it should be completely acceptable. Honestly I think tinavaa is just trying to find something to latch on to in order to get rid of my character (many others backed down after my first response). Now my previous paragraph assumes that the statement “that’s all you do with telescience” is true. If it is true, that’s completely ok, but that’s not even the case and it’s another inaccurate over generalization. I do many more things with telescience then I have been given credit for. Ejunder already pointed out one time when I’ve used the pad for actual RP but let me build on that. Ziva, nasir, karima, leah, roy, and many others whose names elude me, have all been sent to space in space exploration with me leading as the pilot on the telepad. It’s a pretty normal occurrence for me to ask for volunteers to help me test the pad and explore the space around the station. I have created some extremely interesting RP events and situations by doing that. I’ve written proposals to security and offered to practice response drills of some sort with the pad to see if security can use the pad. Those are always denied because of security but it’s still something I’ve done to try and encourage role play with the lab. “that’s all you do with telescience” is simply not true, and even if it was it there is nothing wrong with that. So the two primary complaints that have been voiced here are completely unfounded. “It can’t happen all the time” I don’t do it all the time, I pointed that out and someone verified that for me as well. “that’s all you do with telescience” one, if that was true there is nothing wrong with that, two it’s not even true as I have just given several examples of how I use the pad to encourage role play. So I would like to know what the issue is, if I need to change something on what I do I’ll do that, but up until now I have followed all of the requirements that everyone here has set forth. My issue is this has been so overly exaggerated by one or two people that I am in danger of gaining a job ban when I am fulfilling all of the requirements that would make it acceptable to play this job.

Ok now that I am home I can actually reply to what everyone is saying. Frist off I would like to apologize for any miscommunication or behavior that has caused anyone to be upset oocly. I enjoy this game a lot and do not wish to upset people in RL. I have always said if I have upset you by doing something, you can always approach me and talk to me about it so we can come to a mutual agreement and everyone might be happy (I try my best to be as approachable as possible). Sadly it is pretty rare for anyone to actually tell me they are upset with something I’ve done and give me the chance to work it out and correct it. Now although I am apologizing for causing upset feelings, I do not believe I have acted in anyway that should cause me to get into trouble and cause this character complaint to exist. This complaint is exaggerated and misinformed at best and downright dishonest and unfair at worse. Please, allow me to break down why I am not doing anything wrong. Frist, thank you blue, I have gone through lengthy conversation with the admins on exactly what is and is not allowed to be done with telescience (much of what was agreed upon is actually what is spoken here). A prime example of this is that skull has done the exact same thing and in fact it is he that my idea was derived from. So the actual act of what I did is not necessarily bad (as jackboot appears to concede). This is not mindless chucklefuckery (such a buzzword). Is it annoying to some people? Probably, I’ve been annoyed with a lot of people over this game. It also produced some nice role play with a forensic tech that was hell bent on catching travis. It also had a lot of people laughing. Chucklefuckery tends to not produce any role play or laughs except for the one person that did it (welder bombing). From here the complaint shifted to “ok, but doing it all the time is a real problem”, voiced by jackboot, cannon and tainavaa. You know what I have to say to that? Fine, I agree, I would hate it if someone abused telescience all the time and fucked around like that. Let me take one moment to point out I’ve not worked in telescience in 2 weeks. In fact the lengthy conversation I had with the admins about telescinece and what I was allowed to do in it included a time limit, of which I have done way less then what the admins said I could. So this statement that “I'm tired of Travis abusing telescience all the time” is simply not true and exaggerated. Pointedly, because I’ve not worked in telescience in over two weeks. Secondarily, when I was working in it more, I would not do this more than once a day. This is exactly the timeframes you guys are suggesting. So what is the problem here? The act itself (be it annoying) is not anything that is unacceptable in moderation, and I moderate it. The complaints are air and best suited for IC issues. This brings me to my next part, tainavaa you are once again wrong or at least have been told wrong, the duty officers have never spoken to travis on any incident. The closest that it came was some IAA officers spoke to him and we had some pretty awesome RP in which travis is now on an injunction and that is cannon. The only downside here is there is no evidence (and yes I take great pride in that) to submit an IC report. If you really think about it, that is not much different than the countless people that will take a shift just to mess around then say it is not cannon at the end of the round (something to my understanding happens quite often). I say it’s not that different because you really can’t write a character complaint about it because what the actual character is doing is not necessarily wrong (as I established) and because it’s not cannon you can’t do an IC report either. Only in my case, if you ever catch me in the act, you do get to write an incident report. Banning him from telescience over this is extremely unfair. I have been here for 4+months using telescience this way. I established with the admins early on what is right and wrong. It is agreed (even here) that a monkey bomb is not that big of a deal. I only do this once every few days (something everyone agrees is ok). Many more people have done many more worse things (repetitively) then what travis has done. So even if we pursue this ICly a complete removal out of science would be extremely unfair to me as a player. I am sorry that you are so upset, I really wish you came to me to discuss it because I would do what I can to be considerate of your feelings and seek to adjust my behavior so that we may both enjoy this game. That is how I operate. But I do not want to be removed out of science over this and I think it is unfair that is what you are trying to suggest here.
