  1. This player complaint, as has been pointed out before, is not only about Boss. The personal input of the other nuke operatives present may be useful.

  3. Even /if/ I did claim it for my own, the staff are here to uphold the rules of the server, not be arbiters of intellectual property laws.
  4. I think things that obviously break immersion probably shouldn't be allowed, obvious things like Adolf Hitler characters, or an AI that praises Gork AND Mork. But then again, I wouldn't know what Amy Rose references to, so the immersion breaking would fly totally over my head.
  5. As I said in the prelude of my complaint, I'm not really looking for administrative action to be taken on you, but rather want to formally contest the ruling that you made in-game. Doomberg has previously stated that its better to take a developing argument to the forums instead of persisting it in-game, and I agree, because arguing in game gets both confusing, and sending pm's lags my system.
  6. BYOND Key: Lord Fowl Staff BYOND Key: Xelnagahunter Reason for complaint: Firstly, I'm not really complaining about Xelnaga's actions, I'm just contesting his ruling. As Doomberg said, it's impolite to argue via in-game PMs. The situation: During Tenenza's latest "Mysteries Uncovered" event, which was today (Aug/23rd/2015), I, Lord Fowl, was in the AI role playing my newest AI, Blaktoof. Blaktoof is much like SOLO, as he is a reference to largely fictional characters, SOLO being a reference to the Western cowboy, and Blaktoof being reference to the popular WH40k franchise, namely referring to the Ork species. Blaktoof speaks with an Orkish accent, and uses Ork slang. Xelnagahunter in particular to offense to the slang term 'dakka'. Xelnagahunter's ruling (Summary): "The use-age of the term Dakka is absolutely unacceptable, as it borrows from another universe of science-fiction (The WH40k universe, and fictional universes CANNOT borrow from each other" (presumably to maintain integrity) I would like to contest Xelnaga's ruling, as his reasons for it fail to convince me whatsoever. In the log below, I make the point that our language and fictional genres in general draw from previous fictional universes already (Lord of the Rings pretty much invented modern fantasy, Starship Troopers invented the concept of the Space Marine, etc.) Xelnagahunter contests that many of those borrowings are 'official'. I ask, by what party? There is no party that /officializes/ introduction of words into the English language. (We're not the French!). I could make the point that the term 'Dakka' is just onomatopoeia of the sound of a machine gun firing and was only popularized by WH40k, not invented by Games Workshop, and thus really doesn't belong to any fictional universe (In fact, I /did/ just make that point), but I believe very highly in precedents, and that no fair arbiter can act without precedents nor can overrule previous precedents. And by singling out 'Dakka' Xelnagahunter has established a precedent, the precedent that /no/ terms that were coined by other fictional universes can be used in-game. This precedent is ridiculous, in my opinion, because I press the point that our language is inundated with words from other universes. To remove them all from our dialogue while we play on Aurora would be counter-productive, if not impossible It would be counterproductive because I press the point that isolating each and every fictional universe is not good. Much like people, universes build upon one another in their respective genre. From the concepts of previous universes unique ideas form anew. And sure, while Dakka isn't likely to form /too/ many unique ideas, the ruling is prejudiced if it only targets the term Dakka. By isolating each fictional universe, you do not preserve their integrity, in fact you often destroy their integrity. For clarity's sake, I'm not arguing for the right to bring a /character/ from other fictional universes, but rather ideas and concepts. If my AI had suddenly started praising the deities Gork and Mork and vowed destruction upon Spehsss Muhreens, then I could empathize, because at that point he becomes a direct character port. But Blaktoof doesn't do that, and I don't argue for the right to do that. Finally, to conclude this admittedly poorly structured argument, I'd like to say that ss13 is at its heart a very referential game. Its built upon references to other universe. Yet, despite that, we've built our own arguably unique fictional universe upon these references and concepts that technically belong to other universes. To start kicking out these references would be to kick at the heart of ss13, and at the foundation of our server. Evidence/logs/etc: There are the two important quotes from our short contention in-game. Other words that are from fiction AND in the dictionary (The dictionary being the closest to an 'official' compendium of 'official words'. In this case I used the Oxford online dictionary. I'm sure if I had found an Oxford solid dictionary the selection might be even more refined.) -Utopia -Nerd -EMP (This one is debatable, because the Oxford dictionary defines it as something that is not quite what an EMP is in the way we use it.) -Warp (But only as a noun, not a verb) Words that are used in our server, but are not found in the Oxford dictionary. -FTL -Warp drive -Ion blast/cannon/rifle -Plasma (Although to be fair I don't even know if this counts because of the Plasma/Phoron argument) Additional remarks: In response to Xelnaga's closing statement above, I /kindly/ ask permission from the staff team to continue using the term 'Dakka', and to overrule the precedent of purging references to other fictional universes.
  7. Trying to revive the joke app fad, eh? I too remember when that was a thing people did, alas no longer.

  9. We can't just assume a shitler because someone says they're a shitler. A real shitler would lie. We shouldn't be banning people because they act arrogant. Again, I stated my theory about why Mirkolio is acting so arrogant. As the old meme goes, 'talk shit, get hit', except Mirkolio doesn't expect to get hit because the DO team has not set a precedence for firing people, and until they do they're honestly a laughable correction force because all they can do is tap people on the shoulders and say 'you probably shouldn't do that, man'. If you ask me, the DO team is the only thing here that's being ridiculous to an extreme.
  10. We shouldn't act so pre-emptively. Mirkolio probably just doubts the DO will even fire him. IF he is fired and IF he makes Stamos v2, then OoC action should be taken.

    Force Gloves.

You /can/ tell the difference between force gloves and regular gloves by looking at the, IIRC. I made a thread about changing them from highly suspicious weapons (Which is their current listing) to inconspicuous weapons when they were first added, but I don't know what happened in that thread.
  12. I think if we're only going to focus on spamming the faxes, its about damn time DO learned how to fire people.
  13. On the topic of antags hiding bodies, which I don't really think was ever the point of this complaint and is only loosely connected by I suppose the chain of deplorable conduct, the idea that an antagonist should purposefully OoCly create faults in their plan so as to mitigate the ramifications of their deeds upon other players has always struck me as ridiculous. If it was some mechanic/powergame thing, perhaps, but hiding a body is almost so inherent to the idea of murder it is instinctual. If death was to be meaningless we wouldn't have respawn timers. I don't think 'hiding a body as an antagonist' should be accounted as an aspect of Mirk's potential punishment. Its concepts like hiding a body as an antagonist being worthy of even discussion of OoC punishment that make me consider joining the legion of people who question whether this server is Heavy RP at all.
  14. The history between Houssam and Stamos has developed to such a point that the fact that there has been no IC permanent legal action taken is almost immersion breaking. The fact that DOs are unwilling to fire someone is a fault in the DOs and I think that if they are to set a precedent, Stamos should be that precedent. He has physically assaulted Houssam on more than one account, verbally assaulted Houssam on a plethora of accounts, all while Houssam is pretty much his boss, or at least his supervising manager. I don't see why Stamos wouldn't be outright fired for this behaviour. I don't know much about the money siphoning incident(s), so I won't comment, however the particular incident in question here strikes me as deplorable IC behaviour, but not really one necessitating permanent OoC action. The difference between an 'elaborate money laundering scheme and spamming youre a pussy faggot' is one of IC intelligence, morality, and etcetera. To say that Mirkolio is stupid because Stamos is stupid is rude and offensive, and it should be assumed that the deplorable aspects of a character belong to the character, not the owner of said character. If Stamos is permanently fired, and then Mirk creates a 'renamed Stamos' then its clear that it is the trait of the owner then, not the character, and then OoC action should start being taken.
  15. If he's being an assclown, he should certainly be punished for it. Just look at my record and you'll know deplorable OoC behavior shouldn't stand.
  16. But the emag shouldn't create matter, it should disable the safeties on a tool altogether. Regardless of what your lore says, people in-game typically trend to contempt to outright distrust of the borg and AI. I won't comment further about the lore-making process, but it should model itself off the opinions of the staff on station, because that's the only real window we have into the universe. Trying to dictate new opinions probably won't work out, not smoothly at least. As long as this new system still provides versatility and use to the traitors, and makes borgs tempting targets, I'm okay though.
  17. There is one thematic issue that applies to both lore and gameplay mechanics that I've noticed in your module kits, and that is the existence of lethal modules. According to what I know of general synthetic lore across most sci-fi universes, robots (especially in the early years of their existence) are not afforded much trust by the general populace and in some cases even corporations themselves. Allowing them to have lethal weapons outright should probably be a concern. So for your module kits I would have their special energy gun be unable to go into lethal mode. This of course provides more value to emagged cyborgs, or malf cyborgs, as their energy guns could then be hacked into lethality. You should also take into account the usefulness of each module if a cyborg is emagged. Modules like tool kits or RCD's probably don't need to be changed, but modules like service or clerical modules should probably gain a darker edge if a cyborg is emagged/malf.
  18. Are these stats raw data, or do they account for inflation and other statistical jargon? The one for male-female related deaths in particular raises this concern, because my natural intuition is to suggest there are just more male workers than there are female workers. (That would be another statistic, male to female worker ratio, discounting people who selected Diona or IPC (or accounting them into a third, separate statistic))
  19. I would really change the name. I didn't want to comment earlier because I didn't want to seem like a prick, but straight up stealing a name (even if its not intentional) makes your lore somehow seem less valid, regardless of whether its well written or not. At first I didn't even read the lore because I was afraid it'd pretty much be Elder Scrolls fan fiction or some such thing. Psijic is not a real word, either, so you can't pull that card. I also wouldn't go for something generic like the Psionic Order or the Magic Order.
  20. Would there be any visual indication of what module kits a cyborg has installed? Currently its pretty easy to tell what cyborg does what because they're neatly colour coded, however this idea seems to refute the outright idea of departmental usefulness, preferring role specialization. Since this seems to be an entire overhaul of the cyborg system, a potential idea is to have player select from one or a list of base models, and each module addition applies a graphical change to the base model, depending on the module. Lacking any information on module specifics however, I can't really say much about this idea. To me the cyborg system has always been too simple, and adding some complexity and potential tact could be refreshing for the role. However, the danger is of course adding modules that are too useless, or too globally useful.
  21. If we were to change it all, I would modify it into being more suited specifically for the science department, as each other department has their own cyborg module.

  23. Of the characters I know: Tavaku Mo'Taki; A much less memetic Mo'Taki, and more agreeable. SCARLET: Shows potential if roleplayed well. DragonSnap: Not a huge fan, mostly because the philosophy it heralds are really just platitudes. Karima Mo'Taki: Iconic and memetic, which unfortunately leads to derivative forms. However, I quite like her. My own characters, in no particular order: Two-Birds-Beaks-Together Elisnah Karjei Zultar Karjei SOLO (AI) ASIMOV (Borg) The Collect Ohm I have some more, but they're irrelevant!
  24. Either make the force gloves non-conspicuous (Appear in the non-conspicuous section of the traitor menu, don't give away their purpose on examination) or change their sprite to reflect the fact that they are conspicuous.
  25. If any change to the voting were to occur, whether it is an increase or a decrease in limit, I believe it would have to be a universal change, and not merely limited to extended. This promotes the idea of longer rounds, while not pandering to any demographic specifically.
