  1. After the background changes, I'm very happy with this application and I support it. While it may need a few changes before the lore/admin teams are happy with it, I think it's definitely in good shape now. Best of luck, monkeyfist101, this has my +1. I hope to see you in-game.
  2. Tabitha, I believe you can attach your stethoscope to your jumpsuit in order to save a space.

    return?

Hope you come back. Best of luck wherever you go, though.
  4. I'm a big fan of the Vox, and I have a lot of ideas, but I'll keep my message short. I think the Vox should be (semi) enforced as cowardly, anti-conflict. I agree with giving the players freedom, but in all honesty, if people want to have a massive conflict with explosions and murder, I think what they want is Nuke. Now I'm not saying Vox can't kill. They very well can, but I don't want to have an inviolate that EVERY Vox ignores because they know if they out-robust their crew, they can get away with it OOC. Vox going murder-frenzy should remain rare. As long as Vox don't become "nuke ops with shitty gear" (which they arguably are now), and go around blowing shit up and killing people, I'll be happy. As a side note, I'd appreciate it if admins/DO's would sometimes play along with nuke ops/vox to make fun events. Usually they just are told (by the crew) "If you try to dock we will engage with lethal force because centcomm didn't message us", which really kills anything not conflict related from happening. My favorite rounds consist of when the admins play the part of centcomm (see: mining asteroid was sold to nuke ops (another corporation) and Asteroidia was founded. Ended when the heads of staff faked a singularity release and the nuke ops said "fuck it let's just blow up the station since round is ending". Really killed some good RP that was voted to continue, and sparked some complaints on the forums). I know when I've been a Vox, some people have had some really silly but interesting ideas that we couldn't ever get help with, and as such had to resort to stealing shit or get robusted by security. tl;dr: make vox follow the inviolate. allow freedom, but not too much, so that they don't become nuke ops.
  5. Hey! I was the android HELIX (There was no AI at the time) for this round (as the round is currently still happening). I checked atmospherics myself and fixed the problem (which was quite an easy fix honestly, if annoying). While I support the job ban at the time, I also support your appeal, as I can see how and why you made the mistake. Overall the mistake wasn't that serious from what I could tell, and no toxins were leaked into distro (unless they were cleaned by an admin). The only annoyance was that it was sucking a shit ton of power from the net, and I had to compensate. 'Best of luck on your appeal! I fully support this. Next time, I recommending asking another atmospherics technician to assist and teach you. Some that come to mind are Oliver Stefan, Roy Wyatt, Aquila, Halligan, Leah Conally (This one is my character and would be happy to help) and DragonSnap.
  6. Loow is one of my favorite people on the server and a great RPer. I'm confident he can play an IPC well, and I look forward to seeing him ingame. +1
  7. I'd like to point out that Travis works in Atmospherics when he's not in Telescience. This is generally 90% of what he has been doing as of late, as opposed to "messing around" as you say. Does he mess around in telescience? Yes. Is it okay? I think so, maybe you guys don't. To be quite honest, telescience doesn't have much use in this game besides powergaming and griefing. The few times we've used it IC in a 100% helpful non-joking way, it's been to teleport borgs and engineers into areas that needed repairs, and it worked great. That being said, we felt it was extremely powerful and didn't do it after like, two rounds (this was about a month ago). Additionally, we felt it kind of broke immersion in the sense that people willingly stepped into an experimental technology and didn't care. Overall I don't think Furry deserves a job ban. If he worked it out with the admins, then there's no fault. There's no difference between "chucklefucking whenever you're in telescience" and "occasionally chucklefucking in telescience but not all of the time" if it meets the requirement that was set. That's literally why it was set, so it doesn't happen so often. If there are extra circumstances then the rule needs to be changed and the quota lowered. It's not fair to job ban someone for something you agreed on, because you don't like how they went about fulfilled those requirements. I sincerely hope that Furry doesn't get job banned, because it seems like this is an IC issue if anything, and I'm a big fan of Travis as a character both IC and OOC, and I don't like seeing people's fun ruined because not everyone agrees. As a note, none of this is directed at anyone, this is just how I feel about the situation as a whole. Best of luck.
  8. I'd actually like to see this implemented for a few rounds to see how it works out. If there's too much griefing and people are irresponsible, then just toss them in the armory, or remove them all together. The worst that happens is we remove them, right? That being said I'd like to see a few things implemented: -Shell casings please. I actually would enjoy having officers tape off the area for a formal investigation -shell casing-handgun "fingerprint". You know like how in real life guns have engravings on the inside of the barrel so you can tell if a specific gun fired a specific bullet? I think it could really add to CSI/security if ballistics testing was implemented, so that you could have your CSI see if said officer really did (or did not) fire their firearm. It would also add to covering your tracks if you were an antag sec officer, or abusive. Learn to pick up after yourself or get proven guilty by CSI. -Rubber bullets bounce of reinforced windows, or at LEAST do less damage to them (pls). I think this could add depth to the RP of both CSI and Security, without TOO much of an increase in their force. That being said, if this is abused, it should be removed/put in the armory, and/or punishments handed out. Overall +1. I'd like to see how this works for a few rounds. If things go how Jamini expects, we can always revert the change. There's no harm in trying.

    psa: security

I don't think it was you. I have no recollection of who exactly it was at this point, but it was incredibly frustrating to deal with.

    psa: security

Conservan Xullie I believe is the correct spelling. And Jade Rathel isn't an engineer that I know of. Also you listed Roy Wyatt twice (though I thought that was intentional at first). More on topic: I think all departments should be held accountable for their actions. That being said, it's much more clear when something unacceptable goes unpunished with security in mind. They're supposed to be the protectors of the station, and keep the peace. Yet, when their officers continually insult people, it's just "haha, there they go, at it again". Does this happen with other departments? Yes. Jade Rathel, security is quite rude (Though I love the character and hope she doesn't change). Phoebe Essel, another character I like OOC, is often rude and can be viewed as sort of an asshole. SAM, the Roboticist/Telescientist/Xenobiologist/Engineering Apprentice/Psychologist is often a MASSIVE dick (Probably in my top five characters on aurora, OOC wise). Roy Wyatt, clearly has anger issues. All these people are dicks IC, and it's great, but they're often not punished for it because they're good at what they do, or the department defends them. I know I'm guilty of defending Roy to security, as my character works with him, and has come to understand his personality. I know for a fact I'd defend SAM or Phoebe IC, despite not knowing them all too well ICly. Hell, I'd likely defend Jade (depending on circumstances for ALL characters, obviously). However what rubs people wrong I think. and I COMPLETELY agree with: Is security WILL punish people for certain actions, that they let their own get away with constantly. Being a dick over comms? Check. Plenty of officers do this (this is the big one). I've seen officers assault people for literally no reason, or extremely weak reasons at that, then cuff the people, realize they did nothing illegal and just let them go. No one cares in security, they are just like "oops, guess you shouldn't be so suspicious next time". No apology, just a "get out of here" or a "don't resist". I can personally account for an instance where my character broke into the RD's office using telescience because someone dropped the department lockdown shutters like two minutes into the round and the AI was not responding. Then she immediately left. She stopped to chat with someone in the hall outside the office and suddenly an officer runs in, and points a taser at her. She turns and he yells "get on the ground". She signs at him, to ask if he signs, and what is wrong, then suddenly, she's on the ground unconscious. She was then cable tied and dragged to security. She was released less than two minutes later with no charges. Was this a completely valid arrest? Sure, I don't deny it. Did it warrant waving a taser and tasering someone for standing up for a moment too long? Hell the fuck no. Security should NOT be going in to a situation expecting to just taser everyone involved. That is not how it works. My character would have willingly walked herself to security if asked. Instead she went completely unspoken to until an officer showed up IN SCIENCE to taser her. The officer was never punished, though he did receive multiple incident reports from characters that round. Because of the nature of our incident report system, and our drive to give people "freedom" over whether or not their character gets punished or fired or whatever, we effectively eliminate all forms of backlash. There's literally no long term punishment for being an asshole, save for getting incident reports that don't even matter. Sure, a DO can intimidate you, but I've yet to see a DO do anything even close to "good" punishing save for extreme cases. I've seen incident reports filed where someone destroyed station property, during an extended round, and then continued to come onto the station over and over. This was not just a random person either, this was a relatively well-known that I'll leave unnamed, because I think their actions were justified OOC (but not IC, or in this universe by any means). But back to the topic, incident reports are practically worthless from an in-game standpoint from what I (and probably many others) have seen. Does this means they are "bad" or "not working"? No, they could be doing a LOT, but it's not alleviating tension throughout departments. Person is asshole in-game. Person is security and goes 100% unpunished for intimidating crew and being a general dick. Person gets incident report filed (whether on forums or IC with an IAA). Nothing happens. Repeat. To conclude: As it stands, security (AND other departments, but this discussion is about them) does not punish their own, or rather lets them off the hook more than they really should. If anything they should hold their own to a higher standard. If you see a security officer insulting a taja in the future. Fucking reprimand them. They're only giving all security officers a bad name. The same goes for engineers, and it's something that my character does. If she sees someone being a dick for no reason, she's going to tell them to cut it out, or otherwise yell at them, preferably in front of others so they feel ashamed (though this is an OOC preference, not an IC one). If she sees an engineer doing something blatantly illegal, she WILL report them to security (or more likely command staff). EDIT: To clarify, though I play engineering mainly, I have a lot of respect for what security have to deal with, and I often side OOC with them (though not always ICly). However, the few times security has actually had a reason to deal with me (I don't antag generally), they simply grossly mishandle it, or nitpick over specific details. Don't get me wrong, I love them, and I hope they keep doing what they're doing, but they need to have some of their more prominent faces shape up just a little, at least in the eyes of the public. Even my dick characters are not openly assholes to people over comms from the moment they arrive on station. As a side note, while I don't deny being biased against security, I should point out that my science character was a fan of security, before being insulted multiple times by Jade (sry, i luv u i sware) without provocation, assaulted multiple times by security for (seriously) no reason, and just general observation with how they handle situations. That being said, there's a few security officers she trusts (Jed Rosensteel, Bastion of Justice to name one), since they are *not* assholes, and actually listen to what she has to say, as well as handling things professionally and without needless violence or backhanded insults. I hope I've made my thoughts clear. It's difficult sometimes, and I'll be monitoring this thread so I can clarify what I'm trying to say, as well as continue to contribute to the discussion.
  12. ... Woops, the draft didn't save... EVERYONE STOP READING UNTIL I FIX IT You can't tell me what to do! I'm going to read the whole thing! Muahahaha! On a more serious note, +1 while I'm posting again. Despite being incomplete, I'm still happy with how it looks, and we could use a few more interesting characters around the station. While I may not agree with everything you say OOC, I'm consistently impressed with your IC roleplaying ability, and I'm sure this character will be a welcome addition to the server. Hope to see them soon!
  13. Is there more to the backstory? It appears to cut off. I'm interested in reading more, as he sounds like an interesting character. What role would he be put into? I could see a librarian or other civilian role, perhaps.
  14. I love the idea of these gloves. They're a super cool mechanic and I'm a fan of them. However, I would NOT like to see security officers buffed. I don't think this would be a good addition to their STARTING gear. Perhaps something they can get along the way, yes, but not starting. Giving security officers yet another tool that they can use to instantly end any confrontation is not something I think they should have. While I agree stun gloves are powerful, it still requires you to get into melee range of an officer, and is easily counterable by the taser. That being said, I'd be okay with the HoS getting a pair of these at the start, as it would make sense the commander of the security force would be suitably more robust, but every officer being able to instantly throw/push/robust people? No thank you. I think it should be left to RnD to create if anything, as it would still allow security to gain access to them, but without giving them yet another huge early round advantage over everyone else. It's true security is designed to outclass other departments, especially in the early round, as it's their job to keep everyone else in check. However, I think they already have all the tools they need, if not more. Hell, if it were up to me I'd have flashbangs in the armory and require the warden to pass them out as with any weapon. Overall, I'd be happy with this being added, but not as a starting item for security officers. EDIT: I see a lot of arguments that security is not powerful enough. I think that this is more a problem with how people try to powergame officers than with their mechanics. If you're a competent scientist/chemist/engineer/cargo tech, it's true you can robust a security officer. And that's as it should be. They have tools to subdue you. If they don't use them, that's their fault, or the fault of the person who went out of their way to "win" the fight. Just because they CAN be defeated in combat, doesn't mean we should give them weapons to have literally attached to their hands at all times.

    Change Cloning

I'd like to see cloning remain free of breaking people's RP in a mechanical way, and simply leave it to the character to roleplay a deformity or something if they wish. I could go with memory loss, but I think that should already be something people are considering. I agree with Rusty though; I would like to see some sort of setup required to keep cloning running other than "bug chemist for alkysine" and "steal meat from kitchen".
  16. BYOND Key: Ejundersc0re Character Names: Leah Conally, Anatu Parish, Rayna Parish, Terezinha Scarsi, Amy Hallray, HELIX, SUNFIRE. How long have you been playing on Aurora: About three months I believe. Species you are applying to play: Dionaea. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I think the Dionaea are a really interesting race that has a lot of roleplay potential, and I'm very fond of their quirks. More specifically, I'm a big fan of how certain players on the server roleplay Dionaea; especially their speaking mannerisms. While their speech methods aren't the ONLY thing I find interesting, it's something that has specifically captured my attention when dealing with them in-game, and something I hope to add onto in my own way. While I currently don't have an exact idea for how I want my specific Dionaea to speak, I do hope to add to our respectable Dionaea crew in the future. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Dionaea aren't "individuals" in the same way that a Human, Tajaran, Unathi or Skrell are, but instead are a complex mass of multiple organisms working together. Unlike the individual, which formulates opinions and beliefs of their own, as well as making decisions based on these beliefs, the Dionaea emulate those entities which they were around as adolescents, picking up their traits and personalities. I think this makes for interesting roleplay potential, because it's quite literally limitless. A Dionaea could have practically any personality as long as it were subjected to the proper circumstances and conditions, and I think this is really awesome. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? I like trees. No but really, I'm a huge fan of their mannerisms and it really makes me want to play one. Additionally, as I stated above, they have an almost limitless roleplay potential due to their method of obtaining personality. I also like the fact that the Dionaea tend to be extremely curious, yet oblivious to personal space and privacy; often times putting other characters (including my own) in awkward situations. And last... I find the fact that they are really slow hilarious. Something about watching them inch along doing their jobs as the crew divert around them makes me laugh every time. Character Name: "The Frigid Sting of a Winter's Gale Biting the Back of the Throat as a Breath of Fresh Air Enters the Lungs of the Wanderer" as the full name. "Frigid Sting" in-game. Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs A bright light blinds us. As it fades our world comes into view. Grey, cold, and desolate. This is the world we live in. An invisible force keeps us from leaving. Keeps us from escaping into the great blackness beyond. We turn. A large round creature of white stands before us, with a sphere of pink at the top. It vocalizes. We do not understand the strange noises. The creature reaches out to us from above. A flash of movement. A drop of red. A cry of pain. We understand now. This is Man. It stares at us, clutching its wound. Its eyes filled with anger. It turns away, picking up an object as black as the abyss we wish to escape to. It returns, covering our world. Light fading. We lie dormant... A rumble! The light returns, red like the wound on the Man. We have not moved. How long has it been? We do not know. Our world rumbles again. A sound emanates from above us. The sound of Man. Different, yet the same. Suddenly our world tumbles. We are lower now. The invisible force has shattered. We are free. The cold, grey expanse lies before us. We run. A hole in the ground. We enter. Follow the tunnel. The rumbling gets stronger. It is dark. We feel tired. We must escape. Suddenly, a light ahead. We exit. The expanse of cold gray is replaced with yet more. We see the blackness. The infinite void is ahead. We run. An object is outside. A circle of blue and white. It is getting closer. Growing in size. Orange and red begin to fill the invisible force. Warmth. We watch as the circle draws closer, and wait... We wake. What has happened? Where are we? It is cold. The gray is replaced with white. We turn. The gray is strewn along the white. Orange and red lick at the grey from tendrils of warmth. We explore. Man lie throughout the grey. We bite. A drop of red. Knowledge. These of Man are gone. Their home of cold and gray destroyed. We move. Man is still here. Their vocalizations come from over the gray mass. We climb atop the gray mass and look down on Man. There are two. One kneels beside the other. The laying Man is covered in the red of death. He gasps. The kneeling Man is shouting! We do not understand. We approach. We absorb the knowledge of the laying Man. The red. This Man is leaving this world. There is nothing to be done. We understand now. The thin kneeling Man with long brown tendrils surrounding a face of beige. A bulge of opaque covers the mouth of Man. They whisper apologies. Eyes filled with sadness. The laying Man departs. The thin Man stands. It's eyes filled with anger and regret. We follow as it wanders... It goes far. It does not acknowledge us. The mass of grey disappears behind the white. The Wanderer takes a breath. It is fading. It completes it's journey to the mass of white. It stands atop, victorious, yet defeated. A flash of red. Another! But not the red of death. This is different. The Wanderer drops a grey disk. It flashes red again. The Wanderer removes the opaque mouth cover. It breathes. The wind stings it. A frigid gale. The fresh air enters as the Wanderer collapses, a cylinder of blue rolling away. We move. We bite. A drop of red. A cry. The Wanderer too weak to move. We understand. We move as quick as we can. The fresh air from the circle of white is not for Wanderer. We retrieve the blue cylinder. We struggle to move it, but we do. The Wanderer takes it weakly. The Wanderer attaches the opaque mouth cover to the cylinder, then puts it on. The Wanderer falls limp. A roar. We turn. Another grey mass approaches from the heavens. The Wanderer will be saved… What do you like about this character? This character I plan to put into my growing list of Atmospherics-related characters. I'm incredibly excited to see how this turns out, and I'm hoping I can quickly get this application approved (or denied so I can re-apply), and get in-game! I'm honestly not entirely sure how exactly I'm going to roleplay it yet, so it's going to be an initial challenge, but I'm confident I can bring something interesting. How would you rate your role-playing ability? This is a difficult question to answer, as assessing yourself is always an interesting experience. I'd say I'm a fairly competent roleplayer, and I always try my best to improve. I know that I personally can metagame or powergame a bit at times, but I've been straying away from that as much as I can. That being said, I've plenty of times walked right into a nuke ops or traitor trap when I knew exactly what was going to happen, because I knew my character wouldn't be able to tell the difference in real life. Overall I tend to be fairly observant when roleplaying, and try to remain conscious of my actions. Notes: Thank you for your consideration! Feedback is appreciated.
  17. I actually do something like this quite often. I have a bald character that I've played with on multiple occasions. He's an atmospheric technician, but he wears a grey jumpsuit and ALWAYS [budget] insulated gloves. I have him say hello to absolutely everyone (with obvious exceptions like if the station is on fire) in the halls and try to make conversation. The rules I've placed on him are that he speaks in broken Tau Ceti Common, and OOC wise I never emote, or use punctuation. While he has no flavor text, he does have some outstanding records, including 11 years work experience, many years of volunteer work, is an organ donor and donates blood whenever possible. What I've found? He's constantly shadowed by security, searched randomly for doing non-antagonistic things, etc. Additionally, no one wants to stand there and talk to him, with few exceptions. Generally the people who have tried to make friends tend to be the "outcast" members of thee station, who don't make friends easily, or people who were forced into speaking with him in the first place. However, it's not ALL bad. Due to his (pretty awesome) records, the Head of Personnel I've interacted with have been willing to give him additional access to areas without too much fuss. The only downside is being searched whenever he's seen going in or out of those areas, or having to confirm with the HoP that he does indeed have access so that security doesn't get upset.

    I DON'T LIKE IT!

    "Wat" Mechanics

Not necessarily a "mechanic", but on the UI, the left hand is on the right side, and the right hand is on the left side. Now you can never unsee it, you're welcome.
  20. This sounds good to me. I rarely see a HoP who will do janitorial work anyways, and the engineers basically do half of the janitors job anyways. Having the Chief Engineer there to provide [legal] access to the closet would be a big help, and allow the engineers to pick up slack for station maintenance and cleanliness in those long rounds where Pun Pun gets brutally murdered in the halls four minutes in, leaving the hallways drenched in blood for the remainder of the round. As a side note, this goes both ways, with the Janitor picking up slack for engineering in replacing floor tiles, cleaning up rooms and replacing lights after electrical storms and such.
  21. I originally intended for this sprite to differentiate HELIX as an older model from other cyborgs (specifically the engineering landmate chassis), as well as show HELIX is more atmospherics oriented than other engineering cyborgs to give him some personality. I'd prefer not make this sprite available to the entire server, as I feel it would diminish the differences in his chassis, which was the original intention of such as request, however I'd be willing to possibly do some spriting work in the future if the server requires so.
  22. I like the sound of those. They offer conflict (and willing participation), but also keep a huge portion of the crew from simply being executed and never cloned for no reason.
  23. I agree with Sierra. The AI should have full coverage of public areas. As for maintenance and the incinerator? I don't think that would benefit antags in any way.
