  1. There is a rule that states there should be no antagonistic actions as a non-antag. This does not cover small to medium crimes such as felony possession or distribution of narcotics but it does cover high crimes that do include basically everything that Lucy Sparks did in that scenario. Whether or not there was roleplay is irrelevant. Whether or not it was built up to is irrelevant. There is a line that should not be crossed. Don't cross it.
  2. ...We don't have... Avikskree. Further: As current Tajaran lore handler I am of the opinion that you have not demonstrated to me any knowledge whatsoever about the Tajaran species and I am extremely hesitant to support this application as a result; moreover, the recent behavior I've seen from you in OOC makes me question if I actually want to, and so this is where I stand. I do not want someone who cannot take the time to legitimately apply to have whitelist to Tajaran. Banking on what you've put here isn't enough for me.
  3. For what its worth, I served on the same admin team as Juan and have known him for awhile, and he has always been a very patient, understanding individual. He's pleasant to talk to and we received very high volumes of bad players on Exogenesis; he was always polite and patient with them irregardless of their behavior, and when the time came where he could not handle someone, he always passed it off to someone else.
  4. ADMIN: PM: Chaznoodles/(Kyr Sunder)->SueTheCake/(Ana Issek): Just three more questions for you, feel free to answer them together or seperately! What is one thing you think you can bring to the table for the team? What is something you think you think you are better at than others who have applied or are admins? What is something you would like to see changed? ADMIN: PM: SueTheCake/(Ana Issek)->Chaznoodles/(Kyr Sunder): Those are all really fluffy, full of it questions I'd expect to see on like my seventh grade religion test or something. No offense. I dislike questions like that. I'm not inherently better than anyone else and my skillset isn't entirely unique. I guess I can say that I have a lower tolerance for bad roleplay and stupidity and don't intend to let people walk all over me, similar to how Frances handles things (IE I made a decision, take it to the forums, we're not arguing). What I'd like to see changed is not to be plagued with awful roleplay, characters, and line-toeing butts that severely impact the fun level and quality of the server. And so these people either need guidance, punishment, or a little bit of both.
  5. Skull: Wait for Baystation is all I can suggest. Baystation has already done away with the genetics lab and is currently in the process (as far as I know) of overhauling the system entirely. However, if we want to go down this route, there is one thing we must be aware of. Changelings. Instead of removing genetics machines, entirely, perhaps leave one to fix people who are genetically altered either through outside means or transform sting. Instead, just disable powers, axe geneticist for now, and give medical doctors access to the cloning lab. That's really all I can think of; a small price to pay to be rid of hulk chucklefucks, really.
  6. Basic Information Byond Account: SueTheCake Character Name(s): Ana Issek, Toot, Christine Hachert AI Name(s): N/A Preferred means of contact): Skype, and Steam to a lesser extent. Age: 19 (20 this Christmas) Timezone: -6:00 Central Daylight Time When are you on Aurora?: Varying times, but long periods from when I wake to when I sleep. Experience Previously member of admin staff on Exogenesis prior to coming to Aurora. Served as game admin with Commissar_Drew, TishinaStalker, and Rebel1254. How long have you played SS13?: Since early 2012. How long have you played on Aurora: Five, six months? Lost track of time. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: As a member of the development team and after dabbling in coding and features on my own time, I like to believe I am at least well versed in how the game functions both on a code and player level. Though some higher level things escape me, such as atmospherics, I know the very basics and a few advanced things about the admin interface and debug interactions. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Yes, as previously stated. Exogenesis. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No, never. Personality Why do you play SS13?: To roleplay. I find a lot of fun submerging myself in an alternate reality and just to roleplay with other characters. It isn't really any deeper than that. I heard of SS13 from a roleplay community I was a part of, and I've only ever played on roleplay-oriented servers. Why do you play on Aurora?: At one point I was part of the Baystation crowd, starting in 2012. However, as some of us know, Baystation has rapidly spiralled downhill and has turned into an awful place devoid of meaningful roleplay. I left that community once I was no longer able to force myself to stick it out and try to fix their issues; they didn't want them fixed, and I wanted a server I could actually have fun on. At first, I tried Exogenesis, and for a while it was fun; however, there was extremely low player count and eventually I came to Aurora seeking heavy RP without the dull monotony of the same faces. What do moderators do?: Admins lite. Their powers are half of what an admin's are, and as with any member of the administrative staff, they have a wide variety of functions. From enforcing rules to atmosphere to helping new players to talking to rulebreakers, moderators handle the brunt of issues with the assistance of higher-up admin staff to ensure the server is functioning well and that most of the players are enjoying themselves without being beaten up by griffers. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: The exact same it would mean to be a moderator for another server? This question begets some fluffy response and I'm not good at those. Aurora isn't necessarily special beyond it being a server that I enjoy and what to contribute to. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Because I see a lot of things go down on server, not only from griffers, but from players and staff; Recent circumstances have led me to believe that staff could use help dealing with certain things, and also because I want to be able to help make the server better. Call me one of those people if you will, but I've noticed a stark increase in chucklefuckery and low quality RP; these new players need one of two things. They need someone to guide them, or they need to eventually be banned. Some need an equal dosage of talking to and guidance. The sheer increase of population we've experienced and the hemorrhaging of staff necessitates assistance, and I want to be able to contribute. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: A common complaint I've heard not only from players but from staff is that sometimes, staff tend to take shit from people too much. I am more than capable of articulating myself in a polite way, but I do not take shit; this doesn't mean I explode at people. Moreover, it means that say were I to render a decision and someone attempt to argue with me about it, I would be more likely to direct them to the forums to discuss it and then mute them from ahelps if they continued than to sit there and argue with them. People that clearly don't take a situation seriously won't be people I hold hands with, either; if they've done something wrong and find it funny, I'm not going to argue with them. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Well enough. I can and do get agitated over stuff that I witness, however I am more than capable of compartmentalizing my issues so that they do not impact my abilities, and am smart enough to realize the threshhold where I need to pass it over to another staff member. Some random guy insulting me on the internet isn't much of an issue, however; I have been called significantly worse things than whatever a random griefer can toss my way. And I know when to take a break if I really get stressed out. If there's one thing I dislike and criticized Baystation's staff for, it's allowing members with personal grudges or issues to handle situations. I know when to recognize that in myself.
  7. No. Overly invasive coding, overhaul of so many systems for something of little value, and in violation of the spirit of the skillset system. The stipulation regarding its introduction was that it never have any impact on game mechanics.
  8. Considering my daily job as a security officer is to babysit the entire crew, I'm adverse to anything that isn't extended. Trying to handle Joe McSelfAntag every round is more than enough for me. I rarely ever have a chance to actually sit down on roleplay even during extended because some asshole somewhere is being a cock mongler so I have to drop everything I'm doing to arrest the janitor mopping the floor with welding fuel only to be continually verbally abused IC and in LOOC for being shitcurity or some other bullshit, and then have him go SSD when I put him in a cell. This is an extrapolation of events, but you get the gist. Eighty percent of my time as security has involved arresting non-antags for outrageously breaking the law or scouring every inch of the station for an assistant that socked the HoP in the face. I like some specific antag rounds once in a while (rp-rev, cult, very rarely ninja) but the gamemode being anything but extended ends up being an annoyance to deal with rather than something to have fun with.
  9. This is not a justification. This is a player issue. This is players taking stupid, unworkable character backstories and thrusting them into the universe under the presumption that 'lel NT is dumb they wouldn't care' when in reality a corporation just as large whose main competitors are consistently trying to fuck them over would indeed give a shit that your character is a convicted fucking space pirate and haul your colonist girl ass to the nearest station and dump you there like an unwanted child. Rather than attempting to encourage this, we should be trying to curb it either through character policing or other means.
  10. Ana likes listening to 80s pop when she does her daily shit ranging from working out to housekeeping.
  11. No, it literally isn't, Chaznoodles. This is important to establish - trials are not and never will be a thing. Ignoring the common sense fact that a trial is held by a government and NanoTrasen as a corporation does not have the authority to hold them, does not employ public servants like judges who can tender an impartial verdict, has no jury system (as jurors must be picked specifically and the defense can dismiss jurors based on their life experiences, ie a rape case and a juror is a rape victim) and does not have the legal authority to sentence in place of the Alliance. Tribunals are what you're looking for, and tribunals are only needed to be held in the event of a capital crime (ie murder, sabotage, or anything that might permabrig someone) at Command's discretion. Security was not in the wrong to forgo a tribunal as it wasn't necessary.
  12. A right to a trial is not guaranteed in corporate regulations - and Space Law isn't a thing. It has henceforth been renamed to corporate regulations, so Pumpking was in the right to say that it 'isn't a thing'. It is a stupid name. Moreover, you should not have expected a trial to begin with. Trials are civil proceedings held by federally appointed officials, of which there are none on station. NanoTrasen has no authority to perform a trial because it is not a government entity. Another thing to note is that when charges of 'attempted murder' or 'assault with intent to kill' are tossed around, the primary decision is the motive and the intention of the suspect. If security finds sufficient evidence to corroborate that indeed the woman hitting you was purposely trying to end your life then 'attempted murder' would apply. However, I am assuming they did not, and as such the charge did not stick. There are multiple crimes specific to both homicide and assault; judging from your recollection the geneticist was probably only guilty of assault with intent to kill given the situation. There is a distinct difference between these sentences and laws.
  13. Going to -1 this. I've seen Seven Ghost play antag with powergame in mind consistently (let's not even talk about Janus), and they even admitted it awhile ago in the bounty thread wherein they publicly stated that they ganked a bounty and forgot to take a photo. This consisted of dropping a lit grenade in front of the target, hiding it behind a book, to kill them. Given that I'm not confident Seven Ghost can roleplay antagonists well, I don't think they can handle the rigors of being a head or the responsibility involved.
  14. Duck, you forget one very important thing that makes revolvers stupid. Internal bleeding. You only need to get shot once. Just once.
  15. Going to have to -1 this head application. I don't know why NanoTrasen would hire Vittorio as a head, given the fact he is so outwardly racist and a massive human supremacist. He's even gone so far as to vandalize the station and write 'lizards aren't people' in the middle of the hall. Given the fact he is an extremist, his position as a station head would as far as I can see bring only bad PR to the company and summon a literal storm of Internal Affairs paperwork. He's too extreme to ever be promoted to a head, IMO.
  16. During the war period, the Dal're region suffered the brunt of infantry and armor combat thanks to its value as a farm region; responsible for the vast majority of wheat output for the Tajaran public, almost all wheat farms were at one point located in the Dal're region. Because of this, once the Great War had ended, the area was unmistakably scarred by battle and almost fifty percent of the available farmland was deemed unusable by the farmers. Landmines scattered fields, artillery craters and makeshift entrenchments littered the countryside, and chemical weapons had left lingering stains that led the grown plant life to be inedible. However, the government at the time made a series of widely criticized decisions to repair what it deemed 'important industrial centers' rather than farmland. For a while, the decreased wheat output was barely noticeable; Adhomai was receiving emergency assistance from the Sol Alliance. But recently, with the last of stockpiled supplies gone and the Alliance cutting off support as it no longer considers the Tajaran people to be in an 'unstable position', a ghastly famine has gripped the entire planet. To make up for the shortage of wheat, the Tajaran government decided to attempt to collectivize the agricultural industry with the impression it would boost output of not only wheat but most other resources. Tajaran traditionally employed collective farming methods, but recent decrees have named the produce farmed as property of the people and as such peasants cannot eat their own harvest under severe penalties. With the outspoken backlash against collectivization (viewed by many Tajaran as a return to the time before the revolution), harsh enactments forbidding the consumption of one's own harvest, the widespread killing of cattle, and refusal by many farmers to work - coupled with the loss of fertile farmland - what has been dubbed the Winter Famine has begun to rock the planet, and has once again placed the government and the peasantry at odds. It has been noted that the Tajaran government is refusing propositions of aid at the current time and only the countryside appears to be experiencing adverse effects of famine. The People's Army of Adhomai with the assistance of mercenary groups are keeping peace in the Dal're region and travel to the area is highly restricted at the current moment. Following the onset of the famine, facts were suppressed by the Tajaran government, and it is widely speculated that it actually began during the summer months, at least four months before October. For the majority of the Tajaran public, information regarding the famine and mass exodus of farmers and peasants from the country side was intentionally kept hidden, but irregardless of attempts made by the government, word still spread and now large news entities are reporting on the situation. Harsh penalties have been enacted to prevent any further loss of population in the country side; Tajaran passports are nearly impossible for rural folk to acquire now, and all travel off planet is now highly regulated. Peasants cannot leave their farms without permission from the administration of said farm, and specific identity documentation is required to travel, which is in turn kept by farm administrators. In light of the information leaked, word is the Dal're region has been entirely closed off, and the Tajaran government is claiming that the loss of life and plant life is caused by a dangerous virus which has led to the quarantine of Dal're. Word from with the once-fertile region is now very hard to come by.

    Milo's Rants

Milo's just mad Reini don't have any phat booty like Ana. All in dat ass yo. Besides, with a tiny ass dick, what do you expect, homie? huehuehue
  18. They do, the word 'tribe' is just misleading and seems very primitive. If you want to make your character part of a hunting party or something that brings stuff back from the North or something, that's not too bad. Just the word led me to believe you thought they were more primal than they actually are. Less 'tribe' and more 'clan'. With that in mind, and presuming that's what you're going for, then you have my blessing as the cat commander for +1 with a cat that fits with other cats. And also because I'd like to see more cats on station in general and feel you would do a good job roleplaying one given what I've seen of your characters.
  19. It should be noted lore for Tajaran ethnicities is now done, but what you've stated isn't that different from what is on paper. However, Tajaran don't really have tribes, and wouldn't really have a reason to run off on their own and go all survivalist in the north. They have clans, which are more similar to tight-knit families working together for a specific goal (ie group farming). A better analogy would be life on a ranch or something; they aren't that primitive. Their tech level prior to the revolution was at about Victorian England.
  20. BYOND key: SueTheCake Character names: Ana Issek, Toot, Christine Hachert How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Four to five months? Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: In all seriousness, simply because there is an inordinate amount of bad players that play security who either need guidance or firing. Why did you come to Aurora?: Baystation turned into an awful place of light, 'look at us guys we're so hilarious' RP and a friend showed me Aurora. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is first and foremost exactly what the name entails; playing a role. You create a believable character with depth and insert them into a world of your own or other's creation and in essence take control of a virtual life. There are many different forms of roleplay, all tailored to specific playstyles. To each their own, but to me the best kind of roleplay is on the serious side with some funny stuff once in awhile. But given that at the end of the day roleplay is just a game, it is important to keep yourself distant from your character and to avoid attachment where IC things that happen to your character start to harm you in OOC. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: That would depend on the department, but ultimately the general consensus I would say is that a head should serve as sort of a guide for their department. In many departments, especially security, there are times where new players or people who need guidance pop up and this is where a head of staff shines. Not only should helping 'new recruits' be important to heads of staff, but in certain departments, leadership is needed to effectively get a grab on situations. Security is one such of those departments; given the high turn over rate that security suffers, coupled with the majority of alerts involving them and how easy it is to get lost in the swarm of things, it is important that someone stays on top not only to better the rounds for the officers, but to ensure crew or antags don't get shut down entirely unjustly. Heads are a check and balance to keep things in their department from ultimately exploding into tears and butts. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Personally speaking, I never put much faith into or cared much about people that have whitelists. I never looked to them for 'guidance' or for 'examples' because of a myriad of extraneous circumstances. When it comes to people behind head whitelisted, all I can really say is I think head staff have an OOC obligation not to be bad at their job. Creating joke characters or other people that would never be hired as heads, or purposely playing an incompetent head is nothing but frustrating, especially in high octane high-stress environments like security. I don't feel that a whitelistee has any other obligation outside of ensuring they try to make the round as best for their department and the crew as they can, which feeds back into 'incompetent heads'. Certain positions, like captain or HoS, have the ability to shut down crew and antags very quickly, and without justification or reason it can quickly lead to a boring, dead round, or angry players. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Ana Issek Character age: 30 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Ana Issek, maiden name Ka'Rimah, fled Adhomai at around seventeen years of age to avoid an arranged marriage. With NanoTrasen having a monopoly on the planet's holding, they agreed to shuttle her off world if she agreed to learn and work for them - an employment campaign set up by the company to use the then 'newly-discovered' Tajaran workforce. She was educated in orbit of the planet and spent several years learning Common, security protocol, firearm management, and after she was employed in security continued her courses until she achieved her certification in criminal justice and forensic pathology. Now she is a veteran of the company, having been in employ for nearly a decade, and has proven a capable and motivated officer. Her first assignment was to a mining installation on a barren, backworld planet, where she stayed for several years. After an incident leading to the death of her husband and other officers, she submitted a transfer to and was ultimately assigned to the NSS Exodus, where her tenure continued. The stress of work aboard a NanoTrasen station took a toll on her psyche, and now she is known amongst her fellow officers as being a by-the-book hardass, though those who know her better are aware she is more than capable of mercy and compassion. Ultimately, Ana Issek is a well-trained officer certified in forensics and has racked up an impressive arrest record... for a Tajaran. What do you like about this character?: As anyone that has seen Ana knows, she has a really snarky, sarcastic attitude. She isn't afraid to voice her opinions and more often than not lets the lawbook and her sidearm do the talking for her. She's the sort of cynical 'hard boiled' detective that I like, doubting human nature, doing what needs to be done in the line of duty (ie shooting a dangerous suspect) and in the process snarking her way down the road. But she is also very self-reflective and questions the extreme actions she sometimes has to take in the pursuit of justice, never knowing exactly for sure whether or not she had to kill that man, and if it was the right thing to do. She is very opaque on the outside to strangers, but those that know Ana really well are aware of the self conflict she has over her strong moral code. What do you dislike about this character?: The same thing. It's a double edged sword, really; Ana is very anti-social and is really only on the Aurora to do her job. She doesn't like making friends, she isn't very open, she abides by the book which can lead to innocents being imprisoned or the guilty being released. Justice is blind, after all. Technicalities, bad evidence, bad officers... she doesn't take to them very well, and at the end of the day Ana is a hardass because she needs to be. What she fails to realize is that a hardass isn't needed all the time. She doesn't show compassion or humanity very often because it's difficult for her to do so. And that leads to her becoming more embittered when all is said and done. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): Given that Tajaran don't live as long as humans so thirty is more like forty-five, yes. Her personality isn't the most compromising, but she has accumulated many arrests over the years and has shown loyalty to the company (more so because her certification is only recognized by NanoTrasen so finding work elsewhere would be a bitch) to a certain extent. She's a hardass and does things by the book, though that may come back to bite the company on the ass - which is why I feel promoting her not only to handle the incompetent security officers NanoTrasen undoubtedly gets complaints about, but also to give her a loyalty implant to cut back on that some would help them in the long run. Also, since she's a Tajaran, she's a less risky case than a human Head of Security; Tajaran have had a recent tumultuous history and a bloody global revolution, so NanoTrasen would definitely afford her a lot less leeway being an alien head and could terminate her following fuck-ups with probably less people caring. All in all, I'd think that promoting her would end up with more good than bad as the company is able to collar a potentially dangerous asset with an implant, spread some positive PR about 'equality' and 'Tajaran heads', find solace in the fact they can pull the plug faster or be a little more harsh as she is a Tajaran, and curb the incompetence in security's ranks. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I dunno. This is a really... full-of-yourself question, and I don't really want to answer it. I'm not impartial enough to sit back and go 'oh man i'm so good at rp gimme a gold star teacher' and would rather have others testify about it in place of me. All I can say is that for better or worse I think Ana is at least a semi-well known character thanks to her demeanor and people will love her or hate her. Extra notes: Dick planet.
  21. The lore for Tajaran on the freeforums page is no longer up to snuff and has undergone a rewrite. Edit: Having been given permission to release this, you can find all new lore on Tajaran here.
  22. BYOND Key: SueTheCake Player Byond Key: See Below Reason for complaint: This is a complaint mostly aimed at the cultists that were in science that round, of which were Carlos Cortez, Quinn Giroux, and others. Basically, rather than interacting with the crew at large, the majority group of cultists (likely the 'main bunch', as I assume Carlos was the one leading everything amongst sciencecult) proceeded to confine themselves to the cameraless artifact storage room on the research outpost for nearly the entire round, with most if not all of the non-science cultists having been roundstart. They made no effort to interact with anyone outside of their department and simply powergamed words and cult mechanics in total seclusion until they decided to board the station, gather everyone who did nothing that round in the holodeck, and arbitrarily summon Nar-Sie with absolutely no build up or interaction at all. It is my belief that this behavior should be considered unacceptable, poor roleplay, and powergamey. I do not want punitive action taken against these individuals; rather, I would like staff to consider just how boring and non-inclusive a stealth cult can be and in the future punish individuals or groups of cultists who sit in isolation to simply research words and beg ghosts to help them summon Nar-Sie when they decide to come out of hiding simply to end the round. I feel that, while one could argue that roleplay between cultists is a defense, that the actual reason an antagonist exists - especially in cult - is not to just sit in seclusion and roleplay with other cultists, but to make the round fun for other players. From what I could tell, the majority of cultists were scientists and I regularly ghosted to observe them on the outpost; they rarely left and kept to themselves. I feel that this is counterproductive to the type of roleplay an antagonist should support; you aren't there to have spooky Nar-Sie RP with your fellow cultists but to make the rounds interesting for the server as a whole. Sitting in the outpost for more than two hours and only showing up just to lol-summon Nar-Sie is reprehensible in my opinion and I only wish staff to consider these points and put a stop to these events before they happen in the future. The cultists were: Chendelure was Allison Shen (died) Dr_thingamajig was Quinn Giroux (died) MasterZipZero was Raelene Sagan (died) LeonMiguel was Edmund Flashman-Adler (body destroyed) Echotango23 was Carlos Cortez (died) Joodles was Sawyer Merryman (died) Ryog was Basko Kromm (died) Xuforfid was Moya Desecrata (died) Andrew Knight was Cassian Nash (body destroyed) CoolfoolFTW was Frank Parkinson (died) Andrew Knight was Eric Marriman (died)
  23. I am capable of understanding the reasoning for adding antagonists after consecutive extended rounds, and that, I will not contest. Given that Frances was unaware of this, I am willing to accept her apology and consider the complaint concluded now that I am assured this will not occur again.
