  1. I absolutely love this. A whole new slew of coding languages unique to AIs. The way I see it, too, it has parallels to real coding languages: Empire being C. Roma being Python. Klasp being C#. OB1 being Befunge. Mongol being Deep Dream. Overall, while seeming relatively minor, I find this to be a really nice piece of fluff.
  2. While I like the sentiment, I feel it goes against what IPCs are right now. But if I look at this as more of a proposal than an actual thing, we could definitely set up an interesting piece of developing lore where synthetic supporters rallying for synthetic rights, and after much progress (which players could learn about with news in in-game newscasters) this finally goes through. Thoughts?
  3. I like this. Personally, with a name that shady, I'd place them as "that one corporate conglomerate that struggles on the surface market but has massive, hidden and almost impossible to uncover ties to the underground". Basically, I think "The Syndicate, powered by Necropolis Industries" rolls off the tongue quite nicely. Thoughts?
  4. ALRIGHT, let's get started: How did they 'find' themselves? Did they just wake up one morning realizing everything was floating around them? Were they the kind of Tajara to randomly focus on objects hoping one day they'd be able to lift them with their minds? How did they learn of their powers, how did they OBTAIN their powers (though on this one I'd accept a slight handwave, divine intervention style) and most importantly, how did they train/know to use their powers for them to be significant enough to be worth showing? This dives into Sue's comment of being killed for witchcraft. I'm not a Tajara lore expert, but from what I can tell by skimming the history, the Tajara weren't known for resolving things peacefully. If they were rejected and seen and freaks and monsters, it makes very little sense for them to be able to stay alive on Adhomai for extended periods of time. This part though I like. People don't take the whole "acquired, static powers" line often enough. I also quite like this part - however, given the line about being killed because they'd be seen as monsters, it would make more sense to have this be more of an "Oh my god they're going to kill us" type of escape plan than a "Fuck you guys we're awesome" departure. Good sentiment, bad formulation. Would be more interesting if you wrote it as a first person type of explanation (That's what they thought, anyway. Truth is, we ended up on a world at distances unknown). But that's just me. Moving on. A lot of handwaving, and too clear definitions for a group of what feels like medieval catpeople. Again, just me, but it would be better formulated like this: "We called this planet Rumah Baru, and found incredible things. Creatures not of flesh but of slime, with some of them even assuming shapes not unlike ours. And our gifts seemed to be amplified by this land." Run-on sentence, and again, too clear realizations. It feels more like an OOC explanation than a true lore explanation, to me. I have to say though, of this whole text, this whole ordeal is my favorite part. The true homeworld of the slimes, in an unknown place, complete with a strange reproductive cycle. I love the whole insight on the slimes. That alone, if this application isn't accepted, I am going to re-submit, expanded, and giving you credit. But yes - Rumah Baru itself is a creation I absolutely adore. This passage, while it could be written better, I also enjoy, for two main reasons: one, it directly contradicts the earlier parts of the text ("Their names were lost to history, and so were their bodies, and their abilities. Time and history erased them, gone now."). With this piece of lore written more as a history diary of young children leaving Adhomai with powers and living a full life on a strange world, this could SERIOUSLY be an incredible piece of "hidden" lore. The second is the whole time dilation thing. If they lived there for lifetimes while only a year on Adhomai would have passed, we could say it two ways: as you said, Bluespace has time-altering properties... Or Rumah Baru could simply be a world located on the edge of a bluespace singularity (black hole). Which actually fits with something I planned on submitting eventually. But still - I like that concept. Anyhow - while this piece of lore I find needs to be worked on a little, I absolutely love the concepts behind it and fully support it's canonization once the little details are kinked out. Though I also offer you to help you rewrite it to a format that would be better suited. PM me if you want to take up my offer.
  5. A few things that irk me (as a non-unathi-lore-expert): Seems like a lazy way to say "ancient wizards". Expanding on that - exactly what gives them their powers and why - would be very good. (Though I'm not sure, although I THINK I remember magic not actually being a thing - just advanced tech. But this is just rambling - ignore it for now). Feels very illuminati-ish and cliche. Without mentioning that it means they have a LOT of powers and gives them very little reason to actually interact with people outside the Hegemony, since they just could get them to do it. I feel that an 'ancient historian that saw patterns' would fare better in this context. Feels like just a too-convenient way of making the group powerful. Again, I'm not a lore expert - but I feel like the Unathi might have rather killed these wizards for various possible reasons, or at least have met them with skepticism and maybe even exile. Not just be like "LOL wizards I'll give you resources". This proves my point. Unathi are very honor-bound - and not only to other Unathi, but to their ancestors (which would undoubtably know about this) as far as I can tell. They wouldn't HIDE they were doing some shifty stuff - they wouldn't do it in the first place. Also, is it the Soya clan or Sehr clan? This seems like just handwaving it. They could have stayed powerful by LEARNING things from the Hegemony. But you'd think that whatever the Hegemony gave them would have lost it's value once things were over. You'd think that even though they 'erased' history, a lot of rumors would have surfaced regardless, no? Letting it happen once would be fine, but twice? And the second time around, it's a supposedly-very-powerful group too. I'm pretty certain that everything in this scenario raises some doubts. Again, so much handwaving - not once, not twice, but three times very big organizations secretly hire a supposedly-mostly-hidden shady group instead of eliminating them? Also, this last bit directly clashes with our current wizard lore - remember it's supposed to be first contact, not Traitor+/Operative+. Of course I could be entirely wrong, but personally this faction feels too much of a Mary-Sue organization.
  6. I love this. Moves the Vox from being "dem space raiders" to an almost Quarian-like species that isn't universally loathed. Adds some depth to the species (even though I've seen the gamemode played a grand total of once since I joined the Aurora) which I find is much appreciated. Hell - with things like this, it might even open the door to some OTHER possibilities. Anyhow - yeah I really do like this.
  7. So. I've been thinking. Our coders already have a backlog of features and changes to do, and most of the threads put in here just end up being forgotten into oblivion. So what I suggest is that until we can either clear the backlog or find enough coders to make considering ideas worthwile, we lock down the Suggestions and Ideas sub-forum, and archive all threads currently active. Any suggestion that doesn't require code could be posted in the Lore Canonization sub-forum. Thoughts?
  8. Also. Lore-wise, even though they are considered equivalent to humans, they should have a small superior complex. Like "We survived 3 AI singularities without problem and we're smart enough to not do it again" type of superior complex over humans, while being all like "Why are these pets working on the station" and "We're allowing animals on board?" with the tajara and unathi That might make it interesting.
  9. 20% is a rather high chance. If you resist 5 times in a row, you'll succeed at least once. And giving a total failure state takes away the assurance that the person is pacified - if there's a chance they'll randomly get to maul you for 3 minutes, why bother with the implant and not just chuck them in a cell until transfer? Even I'd be hesitant to use them. . . Having a pause in the function if you're attacked is something I can possibly see as a good thing. I mean, it opens up the hilarious situation of your antag buddy having to punch you in the face every 30 seconds if he wants covering fire from you. If we want to compromise here, why not unlock "disarm" intent for those 30 seconds? That way he can shove someone, but can't bash their skulls in. 20% chance is not that bad. By resist I meant cuffs-like. 20% chance isn't that bad - let's assume that the RNG is lazy and decides that the fifth time will succeed. With a 2 minutes waiting time (cancellable by distraction), that's 8/10 minutes of waiting for 3 minutes of assault. Doesn't seem too bad to me. And that disarm thing sounds good, too - but that whole nukeops scenario is too funny not to allow.
  10. Not AI-phobic per se. It says it won't develop any. I'm seeing it in a more of a "AI-vegetarian" way - they probably don't mind it, they just won't make any.
  11. Yeah, proportions are all skewed in SS13. But I always imagined the Odysseus being the size of a small giant (about ten feet tall, with the sleepers being mounted perpendicular instead of parallel), the Ripley being semitruck-sized. The Gygax I pictured as large as that war machine from Robocop, and the Durand being slightly larger than a Ripley.
  12. I already have ideas for this. Micromanipulator/picomanipulator/nanomanipulator: Attaches limbs faster (under the principle that what should take the longest time is not hoisting the limb up, but actually attaching the wiring all together) The various laser thingies: Adding one (or a set) of it to the machine makes it more accurate and makes it not-need to be refuelled during welding operations. Upgrading the laser emitter makes it go faster (and since the laser width is smaller, allows construction of some more advanced mechs - for instance, the Ripley can have crude welds for all anyone cares - but an Odysseus would need, at least, clean welds. Gygax would need stronger, more accurate welds to withstand it's operating speed and the Durand would need the ultimate welds to make sure it's solid) Capacitors: Upgrading the capacitor could increase the speed of every non-weld tool (by the logic that the wrench would be either pneumatic or electric, and so it needs the power to make the pump work/make the motor spin, and for safety/power-feedback/accuracy/non-interruption reasons it can't be plugged directly into the power network - basically, it also gives a reason why it can finish a single operation without power) Sensors: Upgrading sensors would reduce the error rate by giving a higher degree of accuracy in the machine's perception.

I love this idea and everything it could imply, now. Also what Shake said. I want my russian pirates.
  14. Here's my two cents: First, lore-mechanics-wise (as in, the mechanics of how it would work, in the lore): since it IS still a new technology, what it really does is simply prevent sudden motions and excessive force application on objects (so basically, what this would do is prevent people from punching - they'd just slowly lunge, sloth-style, and from throwing - they'd just again fling at an ultra slow speed), possibly causing pain if attempted, by monitoring and adjusting the neuroelectric impulses at the base of the spinal cord. NOW, the mechanics of this: it basically means three things: People are locked in the Help intent, as you said. They are also locked out of throwing, AND when attacking with items (like a toolbox, which IIRC does damage even in Help intent) cancels the action and causes mild pain (if either are possible). Of course, it's always best to give people leeway, and so that lore explanation gives a few beneficial effects: -People are not blocked out, as said, of causing actions which will come to harm people - like making bombs or even firing guns (as both can be done with slow motions, and technically - we can say that firing a gun is indirect harm - a character pulls the trigger, no one is harmed. The pulled trigger causes the pin to hit the primer and a bullet to fly off/causes the capacitors of a laser weapon to discharge causing a laser projectile, people are harmed - but it is only incidental to the trigger pull) -Does not actually make characters non-hostile, simply makes them a lot less dangerous. This would come, when applicable, to an injuction against being in the proximity of any "proxy-harm" tool like guns and the facilities to produce explosives. -Actually gives a reason why it works on IPCs: since it controls 'electric' impulses after the brain (and not on it), it can also monitor for signal data in IPC motion data cabling. Though to make it fair, I also put forward the following two mechanics: -A temporary (30sec?) pause in the implant's function after being assaulted (which could be coded in as being triggered by every source of damage) -A verb (pacify-resist?) that has a low chance (20%?) of succeeding, but when it succeeds it gives the player three minutes without the influence of the implant. Thoughts?
  15. That's... pretty much exactly the opposite of what I suggested, lmfao. But I like this new idea. Differently-advanced species with protectionist tendencies.
  16. Simple suggestion. Add back all of the missing circuit imprinter boards. List of those I'm pretty sure are missing: -All of the hull shield boards -Gas cooler and heater -SMES -Probably a lot more but these are the main ones It makes no sense, to me, that Research is unable to reproduce all the materials to pretty much reconstruct the station anew. Some of you might say "restricted materials" - but I must remind you that NT allows AI modules, dangerous weapons AND technically illegal technology to be researched. Thoughts?
  17. So basically, switch mech fabrication from "Mechanic McGaragist in mechbay" to "actual production machine technician" and give a "cloning machine" to IPCs. The second idea I'm 200% down with, it's a great idea. But the first one? It has it's issues: First, having a static one-of-a-kind machine for something so essential feels wrong. It robs the player of many opportunities - and I generally don't think it's a good idea. Second (not an issue, a suggestion) since it's high-precision and high force, have an infinitesimally small chance (0.01%?) for the operation to fail. And of course, since it's controlled by the operator, giving the wrong orders also fails. And failures can, once in a while, damage the materials that were being worked on. But overall, I love the concept of both.
  18. Full Name: Colvert Tiemann Age: Young Adult Brief Description: Long dirty blone ponytail. Caucasian. Green eyes. Chubby but not really fat. 19. Yeah I don't think I've ever MADE a workshop but I can sure as hell give it a go. Glad to be accepted, though.
  20. Yes, please. This sounds like a glorious idea. If this gets pushed through, I'm going to be observing a LOT of nukeops round just to see the one moment where you can see the Heads shitting themselves when they realize that they can't get ERT.

I love the idea, though there's one thing that bugs me extremely badly: How is this going to mesh with whitelists?
  22. So uh. I'm going to put this out there. I don't play skrell because my application hasn't been approved despite it being posted a month ago. Otherwise, there's two things that bug me, currently, in Skrell history: How much of a focus they are in synthetic design, and How little we TALK of those who oppose that whole AI fear. Every single group that has beliefs will generate people that has an equally extreme opposite belief. Where's our mad AI scientists? (Also, evolution-wise, I don't know if the "clutch of eggs behind the neck" is a good thing for bipedal creatures - it feels like a single trip and BLAM.) (Also also, I'd like to hear more about how the whole AI fiasco affected the industrial potential of the Jargon Empire) OH OH Can we hear about the Skrell's war history, as well, and what sort of weapons they had? Though mechanic-wise (if we're talking about that): Slimy skins means higher chemical permeability. Make them twice as weak against contact chemicals (liquid and gaseous plasma, acids, so on). And like the Unathi, since their skin features more water, make them weak against cold. As previously said, since they share the slimes' homeworld, give the Skrell slight genetic damage and rad resistance.
  23. That's that. A passenger compartment mech module that allows one or two people to hitch a ride on whatever mech it's installed on (or simply allows SAFE loading of passengers in cargo bay, and so is limited to how much storage space the mech got) -Security: mount one on a Gygax/Durand and suddenly you got two units to reinforce you. -Engineering: To get more people somewhere faster. -Science: Two main things. First, xenoarcheology - sometimes it's fun/useful to work in teams. It allows that (especially since it's now been discovered that Ripleys are fucking useful in xenoarch) Thoughts?
  24. Though admittedly, I thought about it - and maybe having an 'instant recording device' (a recording device that, instead of replaying on-demand, just instantly translates things) would help. Also, the problem I have with the whole 'non-verbal' thing is the difficulty in telecomms if the non-verbal parts carried some important information. Like, saying "Rajaah" with the left instead of the right hand being raised meaning two different things? A nightmare. It would make more sense for it to be used like intonations/syllabe stressing/transfer of emotion or intention, and that can generally be deduced from the word structure by machines.
  25. I don't know why I remembered this only now, but: As my Librarian Seshat, I noticed that there was a LOT of junk books in the database. It would probably be a good idea to clean them regularly to make sure all is in order.
