Three things, Bowtie: First, it's a suggestion, not some sort of law - they FEEL it's their ally. Second, I often hit my friends if they're jackasses. Sometimes it's valid to hurt a friend. Third, for people who just abuse that, there's always the moderation team.

JBoy, I'll be honest with you: it's not ALL geneticists which are stigmatized. It's just that the ones that people hear most about are the ones who abuse it - Safiya, Martin, so on. If you create RP and aren't a completely irresponsible dick, I've found Genetics to be okay with most people. And security, much of the same - yes, people don't like security. Why? Because 90% of the time I've seen security, they act as if they're not entirely part of the station - they just patrol halls and stay in their own department until shit goes down, and when that happens they deploy coldly. Same goes for the HoS times ten. I've never ever seen anyone refuse a greeting. Though the Captain is entirely valid - the Captain is fine until shit goes down, at which point you're lucky to even see him. Except when things go in your favor (like that one time, in what I consider the best Changeling round I've ever played, a Changeling successfully managed to devour all crew except maybe three of four. I spent half the round keeping a scared librarian from getting devoured while she helped me take measures to ensure our safety. It was glorious.) Though xenobio, xenoarch and viro are entirely valid just due to how isolated they are. I'd also add shaft miner to this list.

Basic little idea. With some research (probably something like Data 3 Power 1 Bio 1), Research could be able to produce one of two things: One, headset keys for the public or a specific department that allows translation of alien speech. Two, simply a translator headset that you can put keys into. Either way, Science being able to make translation headsets (maybe make them look bigger to reflect the amount of circuitry that would go into them). Thoughts?

Here's how I believe it works: Scan for cloning saves a copy of the character's UI's, UE's and SE's, along with the player's Ckey. Then when you attempt cloning, it checks two things: if the body is alive, and if there's a CKey assigned to it. If the body lives, cloning fails because the player is already in possession of an active body. If the body is dead and there's a CKey, it creates a new body in the cloning machine and assigns the Ckey to that new body. If there IS no Ckey, it checks if the Ckey is assigned to an entity with the assignment "ghost" (because that's how ghosts work - it's just characters assigned to it, I'll explain later), and if there is, it tells the player that they're attempting to be cloned (at which point they can refuse if I'm not mistaken). If the Ckey is absent, assigned to a non-ghost mob or refuses transfer, the cloning either fails or the clone spawns SSD. Now, as far as assignment goes - it's not exactly like you'd expect. Assignment is how the game counts players - only the assignments given 'on spawn' are true assignments. The reason for this is that assignment is the umbrella term for "name of the category on which there's code". So a Captain assignment, for instance, has the code to spawn with the Captain's attire, ID and PDA. A scientist assignment spawns with scientist equipment. But assignments are other things, too - a player with the "Wizard" assignment spawns with the code to give them basic wizard attire and the hook of code that allows them to learn spells. Changeling assignment spawns with the changeling powers. I'm not entirely sure, but I think that players can have three assignments, in order of priority: custom loadout, job and antag assignments. Custom loadout is never seen because that's the custom items loading. Job shows whatever title they have. And if they're an antagonist/special role, the antag assignment is the one that the server knows them by, with a few exceptions. I'm far from being expert and I'm going off speculation based on observations of the server, someone who actually looks at the code would most likely know better. But that's my two cents anyway.

Unless you fall on a really shitty character, just plop in obvious visible range a drop a "hi". Depending on my characters, from 40% to 90% of the RP that happens started like that. The 60% to 10%? They were coworkers. And then there's THAT one character which talks with Sybil because they tried hitting on them romantically. To have an idea, here's what I mean: -Sybil- Phoebe Essel: Is mostly a surgeon, but was a lab assistant once. Now they're so close Phoebe could kill Sybil without Sybil suspecting anything because of how acceptable stalkery behavior is. Geradine Kingsman: Plopped by Research, said hi, requested some things. Now regularly visits and talks. Eric Derringer: Just plopped and said hi while watching research as a Captain. Sybil now knows things probably no one else does about Derringer. Zahra Karimi (sp?): Offered an exosuit, once. Now they talk. Robert Calhoun: The romantic. But yeah, just like in real life: just plop in sight of someone and say hello, then offer a subject of discussion. Of course - that's purely social roleplay initiation. You can also do various things in various departments that would have various effects: -As an organic- Be geneticist. Accidentally poison yourself while testing. BAM you have an opportunity to know someone in Medical. Engineering. Offer projects for the construction room. If no one in Engineering wants to help, ask help on public comms. BAM almost guaranteed at least one person to RP with. Pretty much everything involving Science with the public (and if you're creative enough, there's bound to be at least one scientist which will hang with you just because science. Security. Patrol the halls, drop a hello to everyone you meet. If they're receptive, stop for a chat (or if you NEED to patrol, offer them to patrol with you - it's a doubleplusgood thing because you have someone to talk to AND someone that has your back if something happens, or at least that will let someone know what's happening while you get fucked) But yeah. By far and wide, the easiest way to start RPing with people is to initiate.

Human/Skrell medicine gets best results on humans and skrell

I LOVE THIS. Making species further differentiated not by how they act but on how they react to certain things like medication? It's a clever solution. -
Lady_of_Ravens' Head of Staff Application

+1. For LiLITH, refer to CoolBC. And EmPrESS is also a splendid AI. They would make a fine head. -
Of course - this is all spells that would be added in the book itself, it's not like automatic things. I just classified them in nice categories to show what sort of style I can imagine the powers being used for. But we can take, leave, modify and implement any of these, and they would all behave like the normal spells - to be able to be picked or left in the book and changed.

I completely agree. Apparently laptops (Hypatia style) have been a problem but I'd do unspeakable things to have an actual computer with an actual OS. But oh well.

Hear me out. I know clowns were banned because they're too close to the definition of chucklefuck to be allowed. Depending on what we want, I propose two possible gamemodes: That's why I propose having a Clowns gamemode: where instead of having 'standard' antags, 10% of the crew spawns as clowns or mimes, and that's what the gamemode is. Alternatively, Cult of HONK: Pretty much a combination of RP Rev and Cult: instead of an edgy cult trying to summon an eldritch abomination or two groups of people fighting for stuff on-station, there's the Clowns and the Mimes. There's some original Clowns, some original Mimes - and they wage a war on the station, trying to convert people to their side to fight the war. Clowns win if all mimes get their muteness honked off by the Horn of Fun, mimes win if all clowns are silenced by being forced to drink from a Bottle of Nothing . Crew wins if all clowns and mimes are arrested by end of game OR killed, and everyone loses if none of the conditions are met. The Horn of Fun is a mighty horn held by the original clowns (or at least one of them, the Lead Clown). Spews 5 units of Liquid Bananium (a new chemical that induces laughter and that can, with the applications of 25 units (five sprays), make mimes laugh, ending them and making them people again, eligible to be clowns - also, if captured in a beaker, can be solidified to Sheets of Bananium with two nitrogen and one oxygen to construct a H.O.N.K mech). Liquid Bananium also heals clowns of 1 brute and 1 burn per tick per 0.1 unit of substance (so a single spray of the HoF can heal clowns for 50 of both brute and burn). The Bottle of Nothing is an ancient urn held by original mimes (or one of them, the King Mime) that naturally produces Nothing (a new chemical - a basic painkiller that mutes people temporarily, and with 25 units (5 drinks) neutralizes clowns and makes them people again, eligible to be mimes - can be transferred in containers such as beakers, spray bottles and chem throwers to create grenades and sprayers). Nothing heals mimes of 1 brute and 1 burn per tick per 0.1 unit of substance as per Liquid Bananium. Thoughts? TL;DR:

So. I've noticed three things: -People seem to dislike peaceful wizards -Some people want to make wizards more aggressive in a standard manner -Wizards' powers are scattered all over the place and serve very specific types of gameplay And so, because I'm a snowflake that actually wants MORE peaceful wizards (and more fun wizards in general, peaceful or not), here's a few wizard power ideas I had: Chaos wizard (for when you just want to watch the station devour itself) Crew Insanity: Once every thirty seconds, the wizard can cast a spell that turns (1/2/3/4 people depending on wizard gear - no gear, only one, but one extra person targeted by piece of wizard gear) completely mad. What does that do? OOC, it would give the targeted players almost free reign, far above standard antags: anything from simply doing things they want to do but would generally be chucklefucking to pure and simple "I'm tearing everyone near me apart" murder. Sliptongue: Once every ten seconds, wizard can cast an area spell that forces players to talk, by default, in a random language (choosable from Sik'maas, whatever Unathi speaks, Skrell speak, Vox speak, Gutter, Tradeband, Sol Common). People can still speak in Common by using :0 or :1 (whichever it is) - but it reflects an override of people's ingrained speech systems. Depending on how much chaos we want to sow, characters may or may not understand the language they speak. Switcharoo: Every five seconds, the wizard can cast a spell that completely exchanges the inventory and equipment of people in an area (complete with ID, pocket stuff and all of that fun stuff), excluding themselves. SLIMES!: Once every minute, creates 1/2/3/5 baby slimes that are not hostile to the wizard. Welcome to the Jungle: Once every fifteen seconds, spawns a tile of Space Vines. Delicious Taffy: One-time use. Turns the Singularity into 5-10 caramelized applies (I think in-game they're called candied apples). Switchraroo MKII: Once every 10 seconds, exchanges the position of all people in a 10-tile radius. Jaunt: Once every two seconds, throws wizard in the target direction, landing them 6-12 tiles away. In space, adds tremendous momentum equivalent to a Mass Driver's launch. Houdini Trick: Once every three minutes, transfers handcuffs to random target within 20 tiles. Miracles: Spawns a Magnet (like the one in the firing range in Security) that can be controlled via an interface - instead of programming movement, however, direct input is used. F is for friends who do stuff together...: Once every thirty seconds, temporarily makes someone believe the wizard is their ally and not a threat. U is for U and ME: Binds two targets together (wizard can be a target). They share damage - if one is hurt, the other gets the same damage. N is for aNywhere and aNy time at all: Every thirty seconds, "detonates a Bluespace slime core" (teleports everything that's not bolted down, people included, to a random tracking beacon on the station) Smite: Once every 60 minutes, summons a meteor storm. Trader Wizard (peaceful wizard that offers goods and services for a price) Create Materials: Once every five/four/three/two seconds, creates a single sheet of a selected material (metal/glass/wood/plasteel/plasma, possibly uranium/silver/gold/diamond?). Alternatively - spell has three charges, each charge can spawn a sheet, one charge every five/four/three/two seconds. Set Camp: Once every twenty seconds, wizard can spawn a chair, document file and table (with a paper rack and a folder, maybe - and maybe even a stamp) at their location and orientation. Deal with the Devil: Once every twenty seconds, wizard can spawn a full set of Devil's Clothes (multiple variant available). Devil's Clothes look like standard formal wear (thinking Business Suit, Hair Pin and Briefcase), but they keep the properties of the wizard item of their respective slots (Devil's Suit is equivalent to Wizard Robes, Devil's Pin is equivalent to Wizard Hat, Devil's Briefcase is equivalent to Wizard's Staff). Create MORE Materials: Once every 30 seconds, creates 20/30/40/50 sheets of a chosen material. Full Recovery: Every forty-five seconds, heals target by 25%/50%/75%/100% of healthpoints (and equivalent organ/limb damage required for it) Let There Be Light: Once every thirty seconds, recharges all nearby APCs by 10,000 units and all SMES' by 25,000 units. Jester Wizard (for when you want to have real fun with the crew without being a real threat and without permanently gluing a horse mask on people) HONK: Once every twenty seconds, turns every non-wizard weapon (stunsticks, telescopic batons, Chain of Command, laser weapons, ballistic weapons) into a bike horn. Distraction: Once every minute, spawns a Clown ('hostile' mob that aggressively honks at people and randomly drops banana peels) Circus: Once every twenty seconds, forces target to drop all inventory and equipment (to avoid loss of items) and is equipped with full clown gear. Funny Gas: Once every minute, creates enough NO2 to have a noticeable effect at 2 tiles' distance. YOINKS: Once every thirty seconds, teleports all of the contents of a tile (that aren't bolted down and aren't a mob) to the wizard's tile. Boardgame: Places primed mouse traps randomly within 20 tiles, with a chance of mouse traps being replaced by a cheese wedge. The Peels: Once every twenty seconds, leaves three banana peels in the 3x3 area around the wizard. Pass The Torch: One-time use. Exchanges all inventory between wizard and target, transfers 'powers'. Essentially a spell to transfer antag status to another player. Thoughts?

It would make sense to do that - OR at least make it possible to treat it, or wear something underneath, that serves that purpose (Bio-jumpsuit and bio-breathmask?) Though as far as handwaving goes, I'd picture it more like this: hardsuits could be designed to vent a little gas (the surplus CO2 that people breath out), and while that venting happens a design oversight causes, for a fraction of a second, a small backdraft as the valve closes, allowing microbes in over time) But yeah - having hardsuits be virus-proof (wait, aren't medical hardsuits virus-proof?) might be a good idea for a wide variety of reasons.

To keep in the theme of wizards being "beings with technology so advanced it looks like magic", I'd say if we DO want this we'd need to make it look alien/futuristic (Ma'Tok staff?) and be pretty powerful (mid-level protopistol? With the green laser and high accuracy and stuff? Or maybe a radiation gun like the plasma cannons and organic deconstructor? What about a gun that causes genetic damage or general brute even to internal organs?) and HUGE charge (like, unless they really try, practically infinite - a thousand shots?) at the cost of having a long-ish cooldown rate (1 min? 5 mins?) That, or make it spawnable from the book like the rest of wizard gear. But generally speaking, I'm somewhat against the wizards just having a weapon like that for two main reasons: first, they already have a good arsenal, and second - a wizard with a gun is really just Wizard McNukeops or Traitor McWizard. What's next, you're going to ask if they can spawn a wizard shield and wizard night vision goggles too? (Actually I just thought: A spell that spawns like 20 non-lethal guns, like beanbag shotguns or tasers or laser tag rifles or something equally harmless but fun could be HELLA hilarious)

That's actually an absolutely brilliant way to select antags. I love it. Thanks Scopes!

Does it count even if I'm a trial?
-
ALRIGHT TIME FOR ME TO STEP IN. I was the trial mod who answered this issue. Let's start. First, he most likely called you a 'bad warden' from worming away. I'm not condemning it - IC it's a reasonable thing to do. Second - from what the reports gave, the 'nymph' that went through a xenomorph phase was very fast - in the meanwhile, Madpredare here seemed to have been a xenomorph for an extended period of time (before shortly cycling into different things and then getting back a xenomorph). And engineering was a MESS of xeno stuff. The reason given as to why the security officer killed him is because they FELT their extended lifespan as an unknown alien was a threat. And at the time that they transformed and killed you (which must have happened quite late because I connected right before the death, one hour and a half into the round), you had the time to completely cover engineering in purple slime (with some resin walls). Now I'm not an expert - but I'm pretty sure that takes some time. The fact that you were never a threat is irrelevant - you could have been and you were not crew anymore, as such it was IMO a reasonable assumption. Especially since the fact that you were transformed in the first place was an accident. Third, you were never a threat - that may true. But until the accident, neither was the wizard. And once they were done dealing with you and discussing, over comms, the proper procedure, they DID attempt to arrest the wizard (not sure if it was successful or not). Plus there's DMD's report that apparently you WERE a potential threat - which does not surprise me, honestly. On top of that, the ID being stolen from an SSD person is, as far as I can tell, simply a lie. I asked LiquidRecluse on the matter, and they told me that the HoS gave them the ID before they were SSD. I told you that, and to be honest, I am quite disappointed you ignored it. Finally, I DID resolve this, ruling in favor of the death being legitimate. The issue here is that MadPredare disagrees with my resolution.

How does it work exactly? Does it use Byond's RNG?

Serv's Moderator Application
Killerhurtz replied to Serveris's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Echoing thoughts left in my application: Unless they decide to make you one, being a Server Moderator on top of a Coder means you would be an Admin except in name, which may not be ideal or even allowed - your app may be invalid because of it. That being said, +1. I enjoy your presence as a player, and I particularly like Praetorian. You're a good person and with the training I don't doubt you'd be a decent moderator. -
Just putting this out there: we already DO have a mechanics-implemented trait. "Needs Glasses".

Frances - Moderator Application

I looked into it, and beyond Delta's mod app where you did it, I couldn't find any other examples that happened in a reasonable time frame. So my vote is staying neutral, if not out of a vague "I don't know what" that rubs me wrong. But hopefully you'll prove me wrong. -

+1 BIB best pAI. But seriously though - as far as I can tell, Bling is an awesome and responsible player. They'd do well in a Head role. -
How do some of you manage having several characters?
Killerhurtz replied to NoahGoldFox's topic in General
Projection, and applying "the fourth wall". The fourth wall is, in theatre and media, the "wall" that's between the characters and the audience. However in this case it also serves as a separation between the player and their own character - you are not your own character, you are merely a higher being that controls the life of a character that's part of a universe. And so, having multiple characters is a matter of establishing exactly who your character is, where they come from and how they would react. For instance - say there's a peaceful ling threat. If it happened to me, IRL, I would FREAK OUT. Sybil, however, would be curious about how it works and want to experiment, while Ashton Murphy would just want to space them and Lua wouldn't care until they prevented from doing their job. I'll admit that it helps that I had drama class in high school, but yes - the three pillars of having interesting characters that aren't like you are, are as follows: separation of character and player, imagination to THINK of other people as other people, and the empathy to know how they would react. That's my 2 cents.
