The reason why coders want us to ask permission, AFAIK, is as follows: -If someone writes spaghetti code, it's up to them to fix, and it's a lot of work. -Merging too many code changes can be a BITCH - and so, since they manage it, they want to make sure everything goes. -They need to know when to set time apart to review code regardless, to make sure nothing harmful is slipping by. -They also need to make sure that any changes made is going to be compatible with their own fixes and changes -They ALSO need to study said code so that they don't accidentally break it in a future update, or if they do, they need to know how it works so that they can fix it. And I'm 90% certain that the guy who made the Shell update got approval from the dev team. Hell, make that 99% because ultimately, it's the dev team that controls what's pushed to main branch and what's not.

So uh, is this getting done? I really like this. Also, firing a gun leaves an observable shell - and IIRC it's paperwork, in most modern police forces, to discharge a weapon too so we could implement that as well.
-
...I'm not sure why I said there was toolbelts in the custom loadout. Mighta slipped.

Yo Jack, for the record - I know everyone else did it because I was the mediborg XD (Well, to an extent - I wasn't sure I followed quite entirely, because of how Nioathi sees machines IC - but I'm glad I was satisfactory) But yeah no - I'm glad to have both sides of the story, because I was going to just fully agree with Jackboot there - I legit didn't understand why the hell the Skrell was so pouty. ((Also, OOC note: I technically followed the things not because I was programmed to, but because the AI told me to. The borg I played was TECHNICALLY not rated for that much organic interaction - and I tried to make it grating because of it - and it was DEFINITELY not rated for medical ))

And now, a list of requests: -As Technokat said, clothing vendors within departments. There's too few spare clothing sets in the departments. -Toolbelts? They're available in the custom loadouts I mean... -Standard webbings. As with toolbelts, they're available in the custom loadout.
-
Alright, here's a list of items I believe should be sold in these machines (some obvious, some not - this is not explicitly a request, more like a reference list. Will update if I think of any other essentials) -All colors of jumpsuit except rainbow and possibly orange? -All gloves except black and yellow (because black are heat-resistant and yellow are obvious - unless we have pairs of non-insulated yellow gloves?) -All colors of shoes, plus the following: Dress shoes, leather shoes, sandals, workboots -All colors of bandanas -Hair flowers -All color of hair caps -All colors of dresses found in the color locker -Science goggles, prescription glasses? -Generic versions of backpacks and satchels

I'll pitch in on this. On the one hand, I completely agree because it would cut down on the amounts of noobs and idiots - we'd be assured that those with a specific role have been there long enough not to be complete morons/powerplayers. On the other hand, I'll openly admit it: this openness of roles is what got me, a "spring of year two" (a green player that's only green because they hadn't played in forever), to even consider trying out Aurora was how open the roles were. Back then, I looked at the roles all being locked down for X amount of time and I pretty much went "fuck this, there's probably a better server somewhere else". Aurora was this server. I remember - my very first round I was a cargo worker, the second one a QM. Within the next day I had tried all science roles, janitoring and bartending. It was awesome. So while I get your point, there's always two sides to a medal.
-
Zidanyia, it's not that complex. The game already has code to update the crew roster on arrival and cryo'ing of people - I'm 90% certain that, despite the random fingerprint hash every round, we could adapt that code to automatically update the proper lists with the fingerprints relevant to that person's department.
-
Back on track guys, I have an idea on how to more 'easily' implement it with existing code. Make socks/stockings be accessories to shoes just like how ties and webbings are accessories to jumpsuits. It'll be... a bit strange to put on socks after shoes, but at least it may be a bit more simple to implement whilst having the desired effect.

Okay, Jackboot. I have to ask, is this thread related to that Skrell doctor not following Nioathi's (you DO play Nioathi right?) procedures and quitting on the spot? ANYHOO yeah no, NT doesn't like anyone. And if they do, it's most likely to be the Heads they promoted in the first place.

Also androids are prone to AI/crew requests, diverting them from just improving the station.
-
So I've been thinking. The whole of you lot have great ideas. And I came up with a way that we could implement that. Instead of having ID-based permissions, we have a Door whitelist. There's already exactly predetermined door 'types' or 'ranks' (command, RD, science, medical, public, so on). And so instead of making IDs that have that access, the HoP would modify the list of the appropriate doors, adding the character itself in a whitelist - and so anytime that the character is clearly identifiable (such as not wearing a mask, or wearing ID), the door is open to them. Or if we don't want to go the whole "cameras that identify people" we can make IDs/people have a 'unique ID' that serves the same purpose - the genetic UID as seen in medical documentation mayhaps? Or hell - just have them "swipe their ID". But basically - change the focus of permissions from the person to the doors. Pros and cons: +(?)People no longer need to travel ALL the way to the HoP office to get additional access +Lost IDs are no longer such a big deal +Antags get the option, instead of stealing the captain's spare ID, to kidnap people and use them as living keys to the doors of the station. Discourages killing important people if we make the doors have a "is alive" requirement for access. +Easier management, IMO +/-(?)Easier termination of employees - instead of forcing them to go all over there, just warn them that in X time they will lose access - and remove the access afterwards, plus charge them for trespassing if they didn't get out of places they no longer belong in +Lore-wise, more in-line with most modern security systems (hell, the place I work has a system similar to this) +With a bit of coding, could add some GREAT effects - for instance, have multiple whitelists with multiple effects (security could force the door closed as soon as they're past) and even have antag-friendly effects (when emagged, have the option to open but SMASH people who go through and that don't match certain IDs, among other things) +Possible to add more events. Like for instance, another type of ionospheric interference that gives all doors all access, or a server connection error that temporarily shuts down the auth server and makes all doors have no permissions, locking everyone in. +/-Switches the meta of antags severely - instead of just blowing the captain's office up and taking the ID, they need to penetrate the HoP office (which is deeper in the station) and do changes there (do we allow emagging door permission consoles?) -Could be hard to implement -Not sure how hacking would work after that -Could mess with any door that has a button (like medbay lobby doors, xenobio, virology, possibly all airlocks) which may be extremely hard to debug -Could cause permission sych issues which might cause bloody immense issues +Gives antags the possibility of sabotaging the permissions networks, just like they can sabotage the messaging/tcomms networks -Not sure, but could also cause a higher processing cost on the server -Could cause a mess with leaving players if not done correctly +Forces geneticists to be more careful not to fuck things up? +Gives antag geneticists an easy way to spoof access to places - in theory giving them more options beyond HULK SMASH +For clever antag groups, makes it possible to set up traps for individual people by revoking their access Thoughts?

I didn't vote for my character 'cause I'm a good sport. ALSO quick question, is this for giggles or is this canon?
-
Yo, Conservatron? If that's the case, there's most likely nothing stopping you from applying to be a CE. But yeah - usually heads are the ones who teach because they know what's what, and they have "more spare time" because non-heads have a dedicated role.

BYOND Key: Killerhurtz Character name: Lua Saudosa Item name: Either "Lua's Chip" , "Lucky Chip" or "Plastic Chip" Why is your character carrying said item to work? It is part of the new contract binding her to work for Nanotrsen - as it stands, it is an item that holds a near-field communication chip, which in turns holds the authorization codes necessary for Lua's function, and as such it is not possible for her to do anything if it is not slotted behind her ear. It is experimental technology, and it's success will affect future models of her production. Item function(s): Mechanically? None. Well, almost none - needs to be ear-wearable (but doesn't need an actual visible sprite on character). Lore/story/IC-wise? Lua literally cannot function without this item on her person, as it is a form of NFC authentification chip that ensures that she is not compromised. Item description: How long am I allowed? If short description: "Some sort of engraved plastic coin. The words 'One key, ten thousand minds' is molded into it's rim." If long description: "A round, grey, plastic object - a chip or coin of some sort. On one side there is a logo engraved into it, though it is not familiar. On the other, the words 'One key, ten thousand minds' surround engraved text much too small to read." Item appearance: Looks like a silver coin. Maybe a bit darker. Additional comments: For simplicity's sake, I have an actual IC reason why she comes to the Aurora with the chip in her bag, if she does. She has basic, authorization-free code that allows her to insert it on arrival, and she is technically deactivated before arrival for ease of transportation. http://www.mediafire.com/view/gc1z515r6jwtb1j/luacoin.dmi Here is the sprite for it.

Jaden Kent's Head Application [Revised]

Oh man, I can see this becoming a Medbay from Hell. Jaden VS Jack while Lua watches on and tries not fucking up the competitive ordering of chemicals from the chemistry lab. Looking forward to it. -
Huivn's Head Whitelist Application

Know what? You're a perfectly reasonable player. You rubbed me wrong at first, but I think we're more alike than I thought, and you certainly seem like you have a play plan. I'm endorsing. -
What Baddie said. I've been in more than one round where antags were actually playful - and security WAS more lenient because of it. What do I mean by playful? Sure, they were sneaky. But they didn't gank. When presented with the front of a barrel, or simply spotted by an officer, they didn't shoot - they roleplayed. Hell, one particular group of stealth antags got spotted, talked for five minutes to a security officer which spotted them... then just fled and hid after it was revealed they were there. Security does as security does because as it stands, antags mistake antags for chuckelfucks who need to win.

Huivn's Head Whitelist Application
Killerhurtz replied to Huivn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'll let it slide. I remember Unbound Travels, and they do have decent people. Glad you agree on the studies. As for the Heads thing, here's quotes from this thread: It's all good and well to know your departments. But you're part of a team. While I agree with Callie that "know-it-alls" DO legitimately help in low-pop rounds, quality of life wise, it's not entirely realistic, not without having a quite old and impressively educated CMO that borders the allowed age on the server. And that's perfectly acceptable. At least you seem like you had a bigger story to it. As for protecting NT assets... it's not that simple. Characters like yours are often more likely to cause damage - simply because of the escalation. This can go from crewmembers being harmed in a scuffle, to antagonists being downright provocated and becoming hellbent on making the station pay. That, and he's a CMO - while his backstory DOES make it acceptable to jump into action, it shouldn't be done lightly - he should understand to let security deal with it. As for Jokering it up, I understand - it really is fun, but it can make things really cloudy because when I hear that, I mean "I can make up backstories to justify my characters' behavior no matter what". Like - right now, your character is clearly a chemist that happens to know how to handle melee and ranged weapons from what I understand. But with no clear backstory? Oh, your character knows how to drive a mech "Oh yeah, he made a stint in a cargo thing once". Suddenly your character understands how the singulo works "Oh yeah, hijack mission gone wrong, it was learn or die". See where the problem is? It's always a better thing to clearly know what your character can or can't do. I know you want to be a hero - but let's face it, even heroes don't know everything. I'm sorry if you saw this as "tearing it down" - but I'm not one for chewing words. Though you do seem to be willing to fix things up - and so if you produce a CMO character that does not leave a taste of 'bad things that could happen' - I'll gladly endorse it. -
Arkin100's Head of Staff Application
Killerhurtz replied to Arkin100's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
*points at signature* XD But for a quick answer, if I'm not mistaken, the character I played with that I met Weaver with should be Ebba Sailor. -
Nope. 2457 last I checked. Though that makes me wonder if we'll switch to 2458 in 2016... But yeah, I find it fun that it just so happens that the Aurora is exactly 442 years in the future.

Arkin100's Head of Staff Application

I remember Arkin Weaver. And all I can say is that everything is solid. His character, his application. I give this player all of my approval. -
I'm lucky, I know a few. They're precious and awesome.
