New Head Administrators & Administrator promotions
Dreamix replied to Skull132's topic in Staff Vault

something something communication between the staff themselves regarding how to deal with something And you failed. This thread was created solely because I ahelped about a IAA IPC, and the mod couldn't get the answer if it's allowed or not. He was saying that DO's think it's not, but one headadmin thought it was thing sometime ago. Or something, I think. And I don't like IPC's (and Dionea, but what do) being IAA's, because they are the scum of the universe, and will have it even worse after the new antag contest. There's a reason why IPC's can only be CE's, CMO's and RD's. And that's because these jobs don't really require much loyalty and trust. And IAA's have occupation qualifications close to those of other heads of staff. And if DO's don't trust IPC's to be HoP's, I can't see how they would trust them to be IAA's. But whatever.

HERE RIGHT HERE Why there? Because it's a clear guideline to what species can play what role. Why? To avoid any possible confusion in the future. I've ahelped today about one IAA IPC and one Mod had to wait for the DO's to come online to ask them. It would be nice to have it in there, considering that IAA's are whitelisted. Example: Might also want to update the job guides on the wiki to include what species are allowed to play these jobs. But only after adding IAA's. But who reads these.

That's obvious, son. A pAI's is just some piece of code. If the code is complex enough or can reprogrammed, it can work in a borg/IPC chassis. Simple, no need to "learn about people" or any other philosophical stuff.

A neat idea, but one that is certainly not being pursued. How could we say that we support simplistic systems when we are focused on complicated systems such as medicine and health. The general trend is not towards simplicity, but towards complexity. And this is a good thing - mechanical complexity keeps the game from going stale, and allows plenty of room for effective improvisation. I think one of the greatest crimes of our switch to Baycode is the eradication of the Apollo-tech kitchen, the humilation enhanced by the fact that Bay is now porting this same cooking system. I mean, don't get me wrong, and maybe I just worded it wrong, but I'd actually love it if everything was on the same level of complexity. Just engaging and complex enough to be a 'job on its own', but simple enough so you don't need to actually be a (for example) IRL chemist to do anything. But, priorities, man. Can't focus on the cooking, a job that's purely RP, while leaving everything behind. Or, if you want to port shit from Apollo or whatever, go ahead. Or maybe I'm just rambling about nonsense. Maybe we can overhaul everything to my (or not just my, but general playerbase's) liking.

Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Dreamixpl Character and AI Name(s): link Preferred means of contact: Anything, really. I can do Discord, PM's, Byond, e-mail, traditional mail, even Skype if necessary. Age: Eighteen in a month. Timezone: GMT +1 When are you on Aurora?: Varies. Depends on my will to play. Usually in the evenings, 18:00-02:00 GMT+1? But I may probably also hop in during earlier hours, or stay late. Forums, I check them a few times everyday. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Since around January 2015? How long have you played on Aurora: Since around January 2015? I'm not some kind of traitor who abandons my server. How much do you know about SS13 game mechanics?: Most things, I think? At least the pre-Baycode stuff. I can always host a private server to learn things. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Nope, not at all. Not even non-SS13 experience. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I was banned in January 2015 for EoR grief. I came back later, and got warned for shit-antagging. I learned my lesson and never played non-group antags ever again. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I like the community, even if I can find a reason to hate every one of you if I need to. I got engaged and maybe addicted, always coming back to at least see some of the OOC shitposting. I sometimes play, too, I really enjoyed the three-ninja mini-event Skullo recently did. Also, It's sort-of an english-learning thing for me, I was a lot, lot worse in the language a year and a half ago, my typing speed was horrible, I had to play the game with google translator open in the web browser to communicate with people. Why do you play on Aurora?: ^That^ Also, I never really played on any other server. I fear being the newfag, and having to learn people. What do moderators do?: They moderate? They try to keep the game enjoyable for most players and have them play by the rules. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: ^Doing that?^ Being someone players can depend on, or being helpful or something. Why do you want to be a moderator?: ^To do that^ And to help the server? I wanted to apply for the past two recruitment waves, but was worried about possible inactivity. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I speak engrish and I'm not too retarded. I like to think I'm one of the Aurorian veterans. Is that good? How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Insulting is powerless on me, considering that I myself like to do so (insulting players I'm supposed to deal with is a no-go, obviously). Stress, well, I like to think I know when to stop and/or take a break. I rarely get seriously angry, maybe bothered or arguing, but not legitimately angry. Anything Else You Want to Add: I'm a rebel. Well, I wanted to apply. It's worth trying, and I won't be mad if I don't make it. Also, am I doing the title prefix-thing correctly. I think these worked differently on the old-forums.

So, Europa? So, Polaris? Mostly the 'place they live at', but I'm not a traitor so I don't really know.

So, cooking is as minimalistic and as basic and dumbed down as basically every other job: Chemistry shouldn't just be pushing buttons till the meds are done, research shouldn't just be putting things into a machine that does all the work, construction shouldn't just be magically folding metal into things with one click. Just like cooking shouldn't be putting a few things into the microwave and done. Except that every other thing that's as minimalistic, as basic and dumbed down like cooking is a semi-mechanical (??? I forgot the word ;_; basically: needed for the station and the game to work) job, and cooking is purely RP. And no matter the code and codebase cooking is working on, people won't really care (except the cook). Unless you make it lé restauràtion dé l'Aurora. Food renaming would be nice, through.

Remember, you will never starve as long as you still have two colonists. Is this a joke about cannibalism or an actual tip? Because, well, more people usually means greater chance of survival in the long term.

https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=12996.0 ^^^ This. Around a month or two ago I started playing this game again. I went the easy-route and just installed a modpack with the largest amount of mods. In short, it was fun. Lots of funs. Through, insane amount of workbenches was needed to be built and had (our maybe I just dislike it? ). Also, I had to disable the seeds mod for my own enjoyment of the game. Too hard with that one enabled. I got wind generators and lights in the beginning of second year. And I was cheating a bit, by deleting any predators arriving (fucking dinosaurs) and aliens. I'd rather not have my colony destroyed in 5 seconds because of some bullshitu overpowered invaders. After all, I want to create a story, not die a hundred times. Overall, it's pretty hardcore. I somehow survived my entire first winter by eating any "prey" killed by "predators". That was pretty disgusting for my poor colonists.

How would you like to accomplish that, from the code perspective? By making anesthetics and sleep-toxin work longer?
-
And it probably means that a permanent secretary isn't needed or wanted, don't you think?

Woah, son. That's dark. Basically, this. Something actually possible: I'd actually love the ground/asteroid station to be a manned trade/mail station. Too costly to be replaced by a big AI station, but good enough to stay. Cargonians would need to move crates between the automated shuttles during standard/normal operation. Sometimes, they would get non-standard cargo, like plants, animals or research. Usually, when cargo arrives it has to be moved to another shuttle on the other side of the station, but sometimes it needs to be stored in the warehouse or even in the vault for longer periods of time. Special gamemodes would include one shuttle arriving with a bunch of xenomorphs, or a mercenary ambush. The server could roll for a mini-event, where a few prisoners arrive, and security has to keep them in place. Train/shuttle-catchers, or hitchhikers, or refugees may also happen, with the station deciding between hiding them on-station until the next crew transfer happens, and giving them to government. Repeated failures to do shit would result in fines, and even visits from Central Command. Failures like not moving crates between shuttles in time, losing cargo (that, for example, if it's high-level research blueprint, R&D could rush it with the help of mining and maybe even not lose their jobs). Or maybe I'm just drunk.

If you really, really want to do it, at least do it correctly Lifeweb-style. And not some weird line slicing the screen in the middle.
-
Fuck. I forgot about this. A delay and/or low refresh rate for the crew monitoring console? Can you imagine how annoyed Medbay and Command would be if E.C.O.M. started announcing all of the holodamage? I'm afraid, sir/miss/person, you can't read. Anyway, unless you people want to leave it for discussion or to post better ideas, you can bin it.

Uh, what? If it shows up in a new column, it would be 100$ useless. Mobs, when shot with a taser have their overall health lowered (as shown when using the health analyzer), but their other stats are as usual. If it would be possible to spread the holodamage between suff/toxin/burn/brute values (or just suffocation, for ease of programming?), that would be nice. That way, when Urist-the-Assistant is shot with a taser, both the health analyzer, medHUD and even the crew monitoring console show Urist as injured, because Urist actually feels injured. Alternatively: MedHUD and crew monitoring console only "see" the suffocation+holodamage values, since they read the suit sensors (making the medHUD stop working if the person is not wearing a suit-sensor-equipped suit would be nice, too). The health analyzer, and the bulky medical scanner, would only see suffocation damage values, as they physicaly and actually scan the person for injuries. An example: Urist-the-criminal was just shot with a taser by security. He got (let's say) 60 holo/taser/pain damage. McDoctor sees Urist as red on his medHUD, and McNurse sees Urist having 10/16/14/20 -damage values. McDoctor after using a health analyzer on Urist sees 0/0/0/0. This would possibly teach medical players to actually examine and talk to the crew, rather than just mindlessly scanning them with handheld health analyzers, or sitting AFK near the consoles and declaring emergency on sight of 5 brute damage. Also, it's a nice little mechanic that adds some "depth" (?) to med-gameplay. Why hasn't anyone think of it before?
-
Title. Also, making the doctors watching crew monitoring consoles confused, possibly annoying them, and eventually teaching them to not jump on every little injury like it's NUKE OHMYGOD BETTER RUN

No. No one cares if you're straight, gay, furry or a meme. Really. And there's no need to care. We're just playing games, okay? Characters... No one cares either, but only if you do it correctly. If the character's sole purpose is to shove their snowflakiness down other people's throats, and that character can be described with just one word: snowflakiness, you're doing it wrong. (And by snowflakiness, I mean anything really. It can be gay, furry, war veteran). A real example: Ages ago, we had a "wave" of lesbian, stuttering, shy, "sexy" nurses in the medbay. You could tell they're lesbian just by examining them. They were cuddling in maintenance or in the medbay lobby, whispering to their mates, and not really doing any work. They would suicide if their better half died. Such characters were laughted at, jokingly called "Suicide Space Lesbians" for being "one-dimensional", plain, boring characters whose only purpose was to sexe other lesbian nurses. Buuuuuut, there were also normal characters. I remember one bartender, he was great, I roleplayed with him as much as I could. I figured out he was gay after like, a few months? When I was ghosting over him talking to his guy-friend during a slow deadhour shift. And it didn't matter, as he was just a normal character. TL;DR: Don't be shit.

Can one play Synthetic Liberation Front's IPC that's essentially sabotaging it? Like, by really violently trying to get people to like synthetics? I imagine, that's not the best way fight for synthetic rights. How about non-SLF IPC antags? How about the mission report thing? Any forms? Like it was on the first contest? Can we just make the anti-synths win? The boring all-equality has already won the elections.

Where the fuk is SAW? Will custom borg sprites work with this?
-
Hey son, wanna eat my butt? Shame that no one (or a small amount of people) really cares about the library.
-
Psst. Antags are off-limits. Antags can do anything, as long as it's not really stupid. Antags (and antag Dionea) can even know every department and be trained in martial arts. Just imagine they're trained operatives, not some random employees. But, yeah. OOC tools (BST, spawning items) should not be used to influence any IC-stuff, unless the round is still in the OOC phase (like the nuke ops who are still on their syndie-base). (But who I am to judge, considering that repeatedly flying through the station as a BST, not really doing anything but annoying the fuck out of the crew, is okay for some particular people.)
