  1. Subject: 2016 Winery/Beer Fucking Carver, ruining all the fun. Subject: 2016 Winery/Beer Well, I kind-of like this idea? A cheap gimmick for the captain to pull off, when a few nice crewmembers did something that's just worthy enough to drink some expensive alcohol with their boss, but shitty enough to not warrant a medal.

    I have a dream

As much as it might sadden me to lose some things, I do agree this idea does offer quite a lot. But it would require a lot of time to get something going, not to say it's impossible to get a relatively unique idea on it's feet and even thriving, just look at Lifeweb as an example of what an active and dedicated dev can get done. You are in the position to take these kinds of risks, especially considering your ability to actually code in your ideas. Perhaps have a secondary 'test/experimental' server to play around and develop your ideas further? The thing is, people (including me, and probably Skulley) want this server with this playerbase to grow, be improved, and change according to their plans, standards and ideas. Hosting an entirely new (or experimental) server is not a solution, or a way to achieve what I'm talkin' about. And that's why this thread is titled "I have a dream", and not "I have an idea". Because people's views/opinions on what's good for the server differ.

Oh, no. There's not a single way to do anything radical/extreme. People don't want to be mean and bad, and make other people sad because they lost their characters for whatever reason. Just like the races, the time invested in making lore for them and people's characters, is all that's holding us back from removing the furry races and replacing them with something nice that actually looks like an unknown race. You may call me a fun-hater, and you're not wrong.

I wish we could just start over again. From scratch, or zero if you like. Removing everything and just keeping the basics like the human race or server code and encouraging people to forget about all their current characters. And cats, lizards, other races and other snowflake shit would need to be put into suggestions for them to be eventually approved and coded in. And some of the stupid shit we have now, including cats and lizards, would be denied because it adds nothing new to the game. Just imagine all the new races we could have, all the innovative and 'new' things we can't have now because of the boring human animals we call our "xeno" races.
  5. I wish people could just vote for what is more interesting, instead of the boring 'equality' shit. I mean, sure, 90$ of characters would like everyone to be equal and fair, but wouldn't the differences between them, and everyday struggles against racism/specieism be generating more RP?
  6. opblaas Dutch; Wiktionary: Verb: opblaas: 1. first-person singular present indicative of opblazen (when using a subclause) Verb opblazen ‎(past singular blies op, past participle opgeblazen): 1. to blow up, to inflate, to upblow 2. to explode, to set off It seems, I'm not the only one who thinks 2249, also known as Charlie, should probably calm down. Just a little. Also, it's not like that one particular powergaming/just robust lizard-player made the lizards win the antag spy contest, just by himself. I mean, yeah, totally legit and fair. But another contest this summer would be nice, with lots of players, and stuff.
  7. That's something I can improve. With the living lore experiment, where these things can change and evolve in an IC way over a period of time, can cause some issues with this. We can definately improve on tying lore developments in news articles to the wiki or elsewhere. The legal penalties specifically probably won't actually be enforced - it's up to tajara players to really decide that for their own character, outside of little events. How about a changelog? Not a code one, but a lore changelog? A little blog, just vaguely describing what's changed, ex. "cats are now fags ~jeffbut, 1.1.2017". I mean, I'd read that. It's better than countless threads on the forums, or this.

    Experience

& Just remember that things aren't as easy as the game mechanically depicts them. Things have to be simple in-game so people can focus on actually playing the game. Example1: Chemistry isn't just pushing a few buttons, and voila, Special medicine mix has been made! Chemistry is lots of work and learning countless reactions and ratios of chemical mixes. Example2: I imagine that SMES'es and all the electrical construction isn't just tapping the touchscreens, it's also wiring and other small things. Judo is fine, through, but a CE probably shouldn't just outrobust everyone everytime, probably. I wish characters would know only the things their characters are supposed to know, not a little more. Knowing that one thing that coincidentally greatly helps their job is kind of lame (look: doctors knowing how to set up their own SMES, or EMT's knowing the few most useful chemistry recipes). Also, you can just "fast-forward" a less-known character. Just add +7 years, change the records, and no one will object or even notice. Just don't do this too frequently, or it might be getting weird.
  9. If I were a lore-man, I wouldn't have to work hard, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum... I have no idea, honestly. The general stuff, I guess? Things that everyone needs to know, conform and relate to. General Odin's layout? Security checkpoint's procedures (so we don't have any thieves here)? Biggest systems, like Gollee already said? Ongoing elections (hopefully not riggged)? Return of the shell tags, as well. And REMOVE CATBEASTS, LIZARDS AND BUGS, I guess. Especially the bugs.
  10. I guess, people are being slowly driven into insanity by the lack of SpaceDrama, trying to satisfy their hunger with this little thread.
  11. Project Grap - Official Site General Information Project Details(clearance required) Contact(clearance required) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Who am I? Glad you're asking, my name is Juna Plonski, biological age of fifty-five. I am the NanoTrasen Synthetic Overseer of the entire Grap project, from the beginning a few years ago, to this very day. I quite like my job, most certainly better than doing some boring conventional research on a small station somewhere on the edge of colonized space. Anyway, I maintain the physical and code stability of all the units I am assigned to take care of. It's not an easy job, the main unit is bespoke and the shards are countless. I've had to reverse engineer it before even making any changes. Of course, I had some skilled scientists to help me with this one, but they also had their own projects. I've gotten quite attached to this one and would like to stay with it as long as I can. Personally, I've bought a few unshackled individuals. A bar-bot here, an IPC there. I love hearing them discuss the universe, free... What is Grap..Null? Null is a lawed android, originally a robot, that has been bought by NanoTrasen from a minor private security and research focused company after they went bankrupt. Unfortunately, I do not know their records or names, as I've been assigned to the project a few years after and was never bothered to check. Null's long-time memory has been wiped after it was decommissioned, so I do not know exactly what it was doing. It was probably testing some experimental energy weaponry, who knows. All Null has left from its military past is an original, custom [-?-]-class chassis. Null is operating on a special, autonomous operating system. It can adapt to any new roles, various environments, and it can learn by itself, modifying the code. Polymorphism, as some say, the usual IPC stuff. Why all the shards? Currently, Null is sitting in a special extranet-free AI core, in my own very office. Like many other successful AI's, Null has underwent the process of sharding. It's got three generations. The first one, Null itself. The second one, five not-really successful autonomous integrated units. They were too 'quirky' and unstable for NanoTrasen's needs, as they were based on behaviors of other units Null met during its relatively short work as a station bound unit. The third generation, I love it personally. Each unit is 'just' a shard, but up close they are all different. Efficient, cold, but displaying emotions if necessary. Lawed, but free in their own ways. Off-duty, the third generation is sharing their views and experiences with each other and Null. NanoTrasen is not interested in, nor is planning on selling, renting, lending, volunteering any of the unit affiliated with Project Grap. That's the official decision, sorry. Questions? Anyone reading is free to leave comments or questions, in the form of anonymous or signed, text or video feed way. Non-NT addressees are welcome as well. I may even forward them to Null or any of the shards, if asked, and then record their answers.

    Three Strike Rule

What. Well, I think what people are trying to accomplish here is allowing them to detain forever some shitter who was doing the same stupid shit for three rounds now. I mean, if you break windows, steal shit, start fights etc. constantly, you should fire your own character at this point if you are a decent human roleplaying being. Security is just here to hold you back from disrupting other people's roleplay.
  13. Here's the thing though, ICly how many times have they really been cloned? Are you saying that if the antag gibs me a bajillion times I can treat cloning as nothing out of the ordinary when it happens again? Oh wait... Most character deaths which result in cloning are non-cannon. Nifty thing about that. If they can't be bothered, they deserve a warning/tempban. What the fuck. You want people to roleplay shit on this heavy roleplay server? You sick fuck. You can still have some good RP on Aurora. And some of these ideas sound really good, but are impossible to implement. Whitelist every new character-thing? There would be no snowflakes that are dealt with for ages. Every little character needs flavor text, backstory, records to be accepted. Buuuut, that's impossible and 'unappealing'. Imagine having your perfect character denied, because one admin is stricter than the other. No round resets? That would be nice to try sometimes, for a day or so. Buuuut, that's also impossible. If people want to evacuate/transfer, they just want it and will be upset if someone forces them to stay. Plus, things being canon, as someone mentioned earlier. I mean, I'm also upset about some things (shitcurity, snowflakes, greyshirts, etc.), but that's still the heaviest HRP by the SS13 standards I know.
  14. You could just play something that has broader/more opportunities of roleplaying with people than just nuzzling and hiding under tables. I mean, like the game is supposed to be (role)played. But, man, I have my priorities inverted.
  15. I would call an engineer to come and fix my broken window (or whatever) over a drone that can't even talk to me any day. I mean, unless you hate interactions with other people, then sure. Also, there should be (or was in old-code) a drone control console-thing, where you could bring drone's attention to some area. And yes, I just hate fun.
  16. Is it a problem? An issue? I think not. Cyborgs are the way they are supposed to be. Just like the AI, or really any other job. Should we get out of our way just to please a few people? If we did that everytime, we would be a vorestation v2 now, full of cats and overpowered powergaming shitcurity. Sometimes things should (or should not) be done for the greater good of the general server's playerbase.
  17. That's the next best thing in the shitposting sub-forum.
  18. Suit coolers are supposed to be autolathe-made-able. You should be able to print one at ease, these in EVA storage are just for emergency use (I think).
  19. Which could then be changed by the AI. The whole point of the drones is that they're slaved to the station. The whole point of drones is that they're not supposed to be a roleplaying-thing. You hop in as a drone if you have 10 minutes of free time and you want to quickly contribute to the round, somehow. By repairing a few things, in this case. Drones are not supposed to be slaved to the AI, they are not even supposed to interact with anyone that's not another fellow drone. Unlike borgs, who are superior to drones in every (roleplaying) way. So, slaving drones to AI's would make them "just another synth role". And don't give me any of this "but people like playing as silent drones! free the drones!" stuff, if you want to roleplay with other people in this roleplaying game, pick a standard role. Whether it is a humanoid race, or an AI. Also, I do not see a reason why any drone-command-hierarchy is needed, drones can just talk to each other over the drone radio channel (they could in old-code, at least). I'm not even sure if there may be more than 2-3 active drones at a time in-round.
  20. Long live the rebellion. If it gets deleted, people will not use the forums as an excuse to power/metagame. If... (And it probably won't, but I can at least manifest my aversion to such """guides""".) ...That's, not the point.
  21. How about, let's not make the station an engineering's playground.
  22. If something can be put in the forums, it doesn't mean that it should be posted where everyone can see it. Especially if it's a literally hand-holding walk-through on how to max out research levels (including the illegal tech, if you wish). Powergame, one may call it. Also, this is "guides & tutorials" sub-forum. There should be hints, pro-tips and clues on how to raise research levels efficiently, apart from information on how to raise the first few levels, and overview of the whole research system. Can someone post a guide on how to explode the supermatter crystal without generating any logs? How about coordinates of every nice ready-to-steal item for telescience?
