Tricking Trapster - Staff complaint.
Dreamix replied to Roderick Grey's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
"Conflict is permitted to continue elsewhere on the station, and in the escape-arm/shuttle if there's prior roleplay involved." Eh, just saying. It seems, that the vampire was still bullying the crew before the crew transfer. That looks like some prior roleplay was involved. And that also looks like you are going a bit overzealous (if that's the word?) with the whole "ahelp before breathing" thing. Do whatever. -
[Resolved] Player Complaint - Abendroth, RoderickGrey
Dreamix replied to Brayce's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Didn't you edit/remove your post? In the old version Abendroth was supposed to be permanently job-banned from security and Roderick job-banned from security for three days. There was also a standard 'don't do this, kids' talk, just like the current one. What happened. -
No. That's just not how it works. Do you really honestly think every scientist is a gunsmith? This "high tech lathing machine" is just a 3D printer. You can't even do anything outside of the database, you're just producing whatever NT researched first. You didn't build it yourself, not even close. Also, do you think that fucking around with weapons is "creativity" or something? That it's real research? If all scientists just want to powergame research (Remember we have guides for maxing out research as fast as possible, including illegal technology. That's the real babysitting and holding players' hands, not this suggestion.) and do "important weapons research" that's just shooting at a monkey with a laser gatling gun, then scientists really need their shit fixed. And the most important thing you forgot: 4.) You are a normal scientist who spends mere 30 seconds of his 2-hour shift to quickly write a "reason" for carrying weapons outside of research and leaves a signature on the paper form. Just like you are supposed to do. Someone tell me, how the fuck does this inhibit creativity or something. You can fuck around with weapons if a warden or a head of staff trusts you enough to let you unlock it or something. This eliminates chucklefucks from the play, if you're shitty and no one trusts you, weapons stay in the firing range. Of course, I'm assuming that these firing pins can be modified or unlocked by heads and the warden. Or a warden can actually control station's armoury, and scientists can "borrow" one of his "free to fire everywhere" pins (assuming he might have two or three). And don't even get me started on the topic of illegal research being easy and effortless. You can literally join a round that's already an hour long, walk into R&D and just grab all the guns from the protolathe because some scientist just used an easy "guns-in-5mins" guide to raise all levels to max. And no, mining is not a requirement, fuck off all of you. There's usually someone in mining, a random miner or at least a borg. Mining is also an incredibly dumbed down job. All it takes is just setting up the drills and turning them on. That's like, five minutes. Then, you get a coffee, come back, and voila! You're rich. And a miner just cannot fuck off at this point. All materials are rushed to research, and refusing to do so results in being memed to death by scientists because "impurtant scienc" that they're doing every round. Back in the old-code, mining was an interesting job. Drills were (AFAIK) useless. You had to mine manually, time and prioritisation was really important. You could either mine coal for half an hour like a proper newbie, or run around getting important minerals like a pro, getting reasonable amounts of everything.

Is this the pinnacle of RP. Should this really be remembered forever.
-
"oh no dying is unfun" Assuming that the atmosphere of death and fragility of life is not generating any RP's. And first, brain rotting is kinda meh. If you're dead for 30 minutes, you probably wouldn't be cloned anyway. That, or you have already been cloned right after security got their valids. And second, AFAIK brain, and other organs (for transplantation, harvested from people) become unusable after some time if they're outside of a stasis bag or a fridge crate. Wouldn't hurt to add this to dead bodies.

Ziva Ta'kim - Heart condition/damage verb
Dreamix replied to SierraKomodo's topic in Completed Items
One could think, if people do not want to "cooperate with a purely-RP situation", they won't really care about "something that's easily fixable with an injection or inaprovaline" either. They will just give you that inaprovaline and tell you to "get the fuck out of the medbay im busy many patients". Plus, that's a snowflake custom item. Just roleplaying it out without any mechanics but with people who actually do care will be optimal, I guess. Huh. Not mentioning the fact that it's either going to be used once in a round (why even bother, then) or done too frequently (where one could question why NT allows an almost-dying cat to still work on their station, remember that NT has tons of spare free cats). -
That's all you're missing, really. "Unknown" "Haven't heard of him." "Never really met." "I dunno." "No contact." "Doesn't ring any bells." And occasional "Stupid human."

"Reimplementing lockboxes would: 1. Promote interdepartmental roleplay, with getting the forms signed by the right people, and getting the right people to unlock lockboxes 2. Prevent Science Militia gunning antags down, thereby promoting roleplay 3. Stop Science being more heavily armed than the station's Security force" "b-but security can just come in and emp the shit out of you" No. That's not a solution to the problem, at all. First, emp's can hit innocent people with robotic limbs or organs, second: "See, when it's come down to 'who can robust better', there's an issue. Especially since scientists can perfectly and with ease wield fucking advanced weaponry, and there doesn't seem to be an issue with that". Not having lockboxes is just problematic. That's it. +1

[Denied]AWPen Head application [REPOST/RETRY]
Dreamix replied to AWPen's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I think I remember, that once some random cat was throwing cakes at people, and Assim was all fine with it. While all of security wanted to detain the cat, Assim insisted that it's just jokes. My memory is all blurry about this incident. Also, the application itself is a little meh... That's a -1... But I'm just one guy, don't let it discourage you from anything or what. -
How about instead of marking more, and more, and more items as recoverable (meaning they either can easily be 'stolen' by someone, or we need some complex disposal systems that will easily be forgotten ...we can just develop a "warning system" for people cryoing with gear. That means, if you cryo with your gear once, you get one point. No big deal, happens sometimes. Won't get you banned or anything. But if you cryo with your gear everyday, you will eventually catch some poor admin's attention. Or something, I guess.

I did a quick test to see how tajara mesons actually work. Human without mesons. All black. Tajara without mesons. Only slightly better. Human with mesons. Meh. Tajara with mesons. Holy shit! And yeah. You can see mobs in the dark.
-
Can one disable tail wagging completely? If not, please add.

+1 Even more reasons to valid mice.

Okay then. You got me here, Delta. Ghetto semi-automatic handgun can stay. Feel free to bin this one.
-
I don't know what you're about. Everything is serious here, and so is this suggestion. I'm not the only one who finds the current ghetto semi-automatic handgun to be bad. This suggestion was made after a longer discussion on discord.
-
You can't just create a gun with all the appropriate mechanisms for it to support a hangun magazine. We're talking about ghetto stuff, so unless your engineer/whoever is also a gunsmith, that shouldn't happen. As DatBerry originally proposed, you should load the gun with one bullet, fire it, load another, fire, etc. It should literally just be a pipe+trigger. "b-but we have w-wizards and all, r-realism is nonexistent" No, just no. The game is supposed to be believable and consistent.

[Inactive] Player complaint - Printer16
Dreamix replied to LobbyZ's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I'm just stepping in to correct a few things. Chemist: - Needs at least 28 years of age - Needs a Doctorate of Pharmaceuticals (DPh), which takes around 8 years to get - Is not a simple job, at all. If something has easy in-game mechanics, it does not mean that it's actually easy for all characters to do. - Needs 2 year Residency at accredited hospital or clinic Atmospheric technician: - Needs at least 25 years of age - Needs an Applicable Bachelors Degree or 7 years experience in Related Fields - Engineering and atmospherics is not an essentially the same job. Do you know how much all engineering is? It's all the electrician stuff, construction, complex engines, years of practice, and many other things. Atmospherics also isn't just wrenching pipes, you need to study how gases work, etc. Again, because someone is simple in-game, doesn't mean anyone can just do it. The metagrudging-thing may be a problem, yes. But, don't you think that 24 years is not enough for your character to know all of this? QM needs two years of experience in cargo, do you think he had time to get that experience? -
BYOND Key: Dreamixpl Character Names: my forum signature+some random characters Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Ivory (RGB 205, 205, 192), maybe a bit darker. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I'd like to play a cat who's not an extreme gay deviant or a silly goofy kitty. I'd like to teach some cats a lesson by reporting them to KittyKGB and by on-station no-fun-allowed head of staff rulings. I'd like to be a little Joefootwear, with my cat trying to separate himself from ones who bring shame to Adhomai. I'd like to have all the whitelists some day, too. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Racism, difference, being terrorist scum of the universe. Humanization of Tajaras, their culture fading away. They're just different. Character Name: Zoya Far'hi-Jaskulski Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Born in 2416 CE (0), just two years before Human Discovery, Zoya's childhood was fairly normal. As normal as her big M'sai family living in a small town around the equator could provide. She never really openly questioned any of the uprisings, however, her family has always been on the Njarir side. It was just convenient for them. Serving the nobility in exchange of some leniency and freedom. Peasantry was 'distant' for her, much like a different species. They didn't want to play or even talk, she felt alienated, interacting only with her family. In 2421 CE (5), after the martial law was enacted by nobility, her family quickly switched sides to the rebellion. The fight was quick, but bloody, and the rulers all died a slow death. Zoya was forced to celebrate the victory with Zhans and Hharars that day. But it was not over, in the following years, her family would lose a good chunk of their members, fighting with the loyalists. But they remained strong, entrenched in the city they lived since forever. 2431 CE (15), the revolution has finally came to an end. It was the time for Zoya to start her military training, like any young M'sai should. Taken from the feminine part of family, into the uncharted waters. One of her first assignments was execution of the remnants of remaining nobility troops. "We surrender! We want to join you!" they were saying, but orders were orders, even if unfair. And Zoya did not want to be on the receiving end of a gun. 2432 CE (16), Far'hi clan has again swayed to the nobility side. This time, in the form of The People's Republic of Adhomai. Zoya, never openly biased in favor of anyone, has been quickly promoted higher up in her unit. She's been an officer from this point, but she's always been trying to avoid combat. After receiving proper education, she got herself a position in more 'intellectual' branch of Republic's military, that is supply and management. 2451 CE (35), People's Republic President was assassinated by a Zhan-Khazan radical. Zoya's unit was relocated to the capital, Nal'Tor. She witnessed there many deaths of the 'subversive' citizens, mainly Zhan's. but she remained impartial, always executing orders to the letter, supplying her fellow soldiers with weaponry imported from space. In 2052 CE (36), as NanoTrasen's presence has been 'increasing' in the capital, they have brought medical care, literacy, access to the extranet. Things that weren't here before. And the Stellar Corporation had offered a life off-world for the chosen ones from the military. It was Zoya's chance to flee Adhomai, to run away from the stubborn Zhan's, fickle family, rough nobles. The reason was, officially, to let the loyal and reliable officers control and scout for illegal refugees and misbehaving Tajara off-world. A new life. Zoya has quickly gained Quartermaster clearances, working aboard NanoTrasen vessels, managing cargo and her subordinates around. In 2458 CE (42), thanks to her previous experience with supply and management, and few years of honest work aboard NanoTrasen vessels, fourty-two year old Zoya has been promoted to a Head of Personnel position. What do you like about this character? Non-obvious dislike for Zhan's and other peasantry who 'ruined everything'. Somewhere deep inside, she would like the old times of nobility to come back. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Definitely not a furry. 6.4/10 Notes: I can separate myself from my characters. If I'm mean and salty in the OOC shittalk, I may still be roleplaying just fine IC. Backstories are hard. Mine may not be perfectly worded or beautifully composed, but I believe it shows a reasonable "growth" of a character, from a small kitty cat to a space employee, without any snowflakery or handwaved bits.

The words, what do they mean.

Oh, look. It's the guy who should go out for a walk and calm down. That guy again. Drones are a magic force. Drones aren't controlled by any real IC rules. A drone can go and build a mini-space station. A drone can fix a breach. A drone can make a breach worse. A drone can fuck off and do anything. That's limitless, uninterrupted force. Drone player can do anything it wishes, it may even metagame if it should spawn while looking at the station as a ghost. Normal players cannot do these things, they are limited by laws, paperwork, rules, roles. Normal players need to roleplay everything out, they are restricted by everything. While drones can just magically appear and start fixing shit, uninterrupted. That's why drones are magic, it's like another mini-game was put into an existing one, where the first one is barely connected to the other. Also, drones are like engineering ERT, with exception that it's always available. And I know the fabricator can be disabled. But it's simply not worth risking being detected and arrested trying to do that, everytime one wants to destroy the station. And that's just bullshit. If a breach happens, that's exactly roleplay. A drone appearing out of nowhere and fixing it is actually stopping that roleplay, removing the atmosphere of station being vulnerable to damage, the feel of traitorous deeds, whatever. If players want to 'restore some of the normal-workplace feeling', they will call the shuttle and start a new round. And the current round is supposed to be fucked by antags/whatever. That's the roleplay. And remember that synthetics+crew are the main "dish" of SS13 dinner, main "feature" of the game (for the lack of a better word). No. That's not roleplay. Roleplay is immersion, character development. People rarely even roleplay a "simple machine". It's either ghosts who join as a drone because they saw a broken lightbulb that needs fixing, or bored people who build disco clubs and shit. Making drones derelict-only would allow us to give them have a slightly more loose/lax/cool lawset, allow them to build freely on the derelict whatever they want. Drones could have their fun, and players could also have their fear/stress-rp associated with violent explosions and all that.
-
Does this mean, no stupid German or Russian accents over basic? Das ist kinda gut. But also kinda nicht.
-
Who's this guy. Oh boy, he must really hate fun. Drones are just a magic force that fixes crew's problems. A drone slipped and flew into space? No IC punishments for their actions whatsoever. A drone deconstructed the wrong wall and vented captain's office? Drone's name won't even be remembered, the player will probably only be bwoinked. Drones are expendable, infinite, independent. No character development. No roleplay. If the crew fucked up, crew should fix it or call evac. If (for example) a breach was made, it was made for a purpose, to punish someone for their mistakes or to generate antag and fear roleplay. There shouldn't be any "external" entities fixing crew's intended or not fuckups. They should not wait for drones to fix it. Therefore, remove the on-station drone fabricator. Maybe allow robotics to construct a drone body and put a brain into it. That could allow the crew to construct a "better engineering cyborg", that can go through doors without opening them, talk to the crew, fix stuff. Cyborg-drones could have their laws changed, of course, and talk to the crew. Also, to not remove normal drones completely, allow them to spawn on the derelict. Drones could have their uninterrupted fun in there.

It's all nice and nice. But what about this. If I join the game and spawn on Odin while there are nuke ops on-station, and I hear in my headset people screaming in pain and other things indicating that horrors are happening on-station. Any sane character would just leave or go to back to cryo (there should be cryo in there for obvious reasons), right? Is it extreme power gaming and validhunting if I board the shuttle knowing that I'm about to die? Because people like these should at least get some warnings. It should not happen. There are some extremely robust individuals who would abuse this to rush and kill antags. And I'm 100% sure this will not be fun. Shuttle spawn should not be allowed on code red. Only cryo, because it makes people unaware to what's happening on-station, until they're actually a part of it. I already regret choosing the first option.

:^) head admin here (...) Is it fun for the crew? Traitor maint drone, two possibilities: - Drone is a silent never-to-be seen chucklefuck that breaks shit. It's like a griefing baldie, except that you can't catch it, and don't know who is griefing. The crew is forced to search for someone, but they can't meta-valid any drones (and that would be gank, because drones have laws they can't break). - Or, the drone goes loud and tries something fun. Buuuuut, the drone breaks it's law about interaction with crew, and is a valid for the crew. It's just fun for the drone player, who can have endless and uninterrupted fun with their instant no-effort all-access and various tools ready-to-fuck with atmospherics and power. At the expense of the crew, of course. The silent-griefer-type of drone could as well be a random event that breaks shit. Or else, what can you do, that is fun for everyone and provides everyone with more interesting roleplay than a normal traitor? Or, you just want to make legitemate drones valids for everyone, because some drones were shitty traitors? I won't even be starting on the actual suggestion, about adding random overpowered shit for the easiest-to-play all-access role.
