  1. Two Years ago I made a post about the incredibly pervasive camera placement on the Horizon. It was deemed null and void for two primary reasons 1. AI players need cameras to see to look at and interact with things. 2. Security (very recently) began to only have access to most Cameras on Code Blue. Mainly point 2 was used as justification to install a camera in every single departmental room on the Horizon. There are barely hide or hair of any blind spots for the AI or Security on the current camera layout. You can not stash antagonist or contraband anywhere in a department without Security finding it. And no, it is not a matter of if Security finds it, its when. Investigators routinely make it their habit to cycle through every single camera on the ship until they find what they are looking for. This makes it incredibly stressful on antagonists for no good reason. Especially since that their safe haven for camera-less space, Maintenance is filled to the brim with specialized rooms that contain cameras, sometimes even motion alarms. Below, I am listing every single space in the Horizon that should have its cameras removed for the following reasons: 1. Antagonists need breathing room from Security and the AI on Codes besides Green. If someone yelps the wrong way, Command is often willing to raise to Blue and activate ship-wide cameras. 2. I think it would be nice if Security had a reason to issue search warrants beyond needing to physically show up to shake around potted plants. The list of spaces have been chosen on the following qualities: 1. Remoteness 2. Need of AI coverage. 3. Security risk if uncovered by a camera. (Meaning if its not at risk if not covered.) The list:
  2. Hello! Thank you for your interest and your application. Compared to most applications we get, your backstory is a little bare-bones. I'm going to ask more questions than usual to try and get a stronger feel for your grasp on Skrell Lore. You can either edit this back into the original post or just put them in a reply to this one. Both options work fine. 1. What Skrell belief or ideology does Uuqoia follow, if any? If they do not follow one of the major Skrell faiths, why? 2. How does their Quya feel about their career choice? Did their Quya have a major role in Uuqoia's decision making? 3. As a Federation citizen, does Uuqoia have any specific interest or allegiance towards one of the political parties? 4. Does Uuqoia have a favorite constellation? 5. How does Uuqoia feel about Diona and Vaurca? The two major non-skrell factions within the Federation. 6. As a Radiant Era Skrell, Uuqoia's feelings about synthetics could be a bit more open ended than older skrell. You mention that Uuqoia's upbringing to distrust synthetics is being counterbalanced by Humanity's reliance on them. Does Uuqoia believe Humanity is wise enough to avoid the mistakes of their own people? 7. What is Uuqoia's SCS? And finally, the most important question:
  3. MRE Dispenser is a Chef replacement when we have no chef.
  4. I think, despite the disagreements being had by both sides, the general outcry does indicate some adjustment to this policy's implementation should be considered. Personally, the clearest resolution to me that resolves most of the non-Xeno related issues is changing the wording of Recital 4 and 5 to be a bit more firm. This is just an example suggestion: 4 Bolded the parts I changed for 4. 5 Bolded the parts I changed again for 5. I think with these modifications, these changes become more in-line with the general expectations the server had when they voted to make the XO 2IC.
  5. I don't have a strong opinion on the XO race restrictions. However, if the XO is to be the Second in Command, empower them properly. This "XO's duty is to make sure things get done but only if the Captain gives them authority out right" is a half-measure that effectively functions as hot air. If we are going so far as to axe Species for the position, the XO's should wield proper second-in-command authority and be elevated above the rest of Command (not including the Captain, obviously.)
  6. Hello, thank you for applying. Your application is good, but I have some questions to start out. 1. How do you intend for Zilrq to interact with AI/positronics on Ship? 2. What is Zilrq favorite Qeblak Constellation? 3. What is Zilrq's favorite food?
  7. again, the entire purpose of this suggestion is to give the Horizon the appearance in lore it can operate WITHOUT relying on any outposts/trading stations for a significant amount of time. This solution does not resolve the presented issue in the topic.
  8. If we unlock the ability to pinpoint teleport stuff across vast distances, why is phoron important for commerce? Teleportation has only ever worked in the short-range for almost every single faction in the Spur, simply because it was invalidate too many other things if it worked otherwise.
  9. For the Dev Focus comment, things like research overhauls and the like that you believed should be focused on do not materialize out of thin air. People suggest, discuss and devs appear and weigh in. Dev priority has been a relatively low factor in the suggestions box. This thread can sit for ages if it means it gets added eventually. The Horizon is one of the most, if not the most, advanced ships in the Spur. Despite, this the Horizon is not a Mary Sue ship. Its express purpose is exploration, and deep storage is directly in line with that purpose. As far as the Horizon being "overpowered" goes, it is an incredibly ineffective warship. The Levi offers the Horizon incredibly awesome attacking power as a deterrent to being attacked. The Horizon's wide and whale like design is about the worst shape you can have for a warship, which tracks since the Horizon is not one. The whims of the lore team are their secrets. If we had a deep space arc planned, I would not be at liberty to divulge it here. That said, the Horizon's situation can change drastically from arc to arc. The current arc should have little bearing when discussing the needs of the future one. It does not do the suggested explicit purpose. The Surface Warehouse spawns RNG gear. Deep Storage would replace the Cargo Shuttle. It is long standing policy that the state of the server should reflect the lore where possible. Between the two options and the fact even the fastest Bluespace Drives for shuttles one take actual months to travel between deep space and civilized space, I believe deep storage is the better option.
  10. Yes, it does. Operations' main purpose for existing is its ability to supply the Horizon with special equipment or equipment refills when the situation calls for it. Mining is the other big half of the Operation wheelhouse, but everything besides that is effectively filler. Then the Singlou stuff can be removed. It doesn't make sense for a ship to utilize a Singlou engine anyway. As to your other points, we do draw sniper rifles out of storage/Cargo Shuttles when we need them, if antags are proving rather difficult or there is an ongoing dangerous event. Why wouldn't we have a pile of protohumans in cryo storage for medical/science usage? The emergency weapons are there just for that, emergencies. All the "special weapons" are in storage because they are hyper-lethal and Officers do not need them for day-to-day operations. Even if you don't like that arguement, we're currently doing that exact thing right now. The "good special weapons" (the zavodskoi las-rifles) are in the crew armory, not Sec's armory. I think these issues are being blown up in proportion. They are not very big issues at all and not out of line of the "believably" we already maintain on the Horizon.
  11. I believe that it is an insane take to say that it is preferable to have 0 cargo than slightly more limited deep storage cargo. It would completely invalidate the department during any deep space explorations the lore team may be interested in sending the Horizon on. The Horizon doesn't need Solarian surplus in its storage to function. Any item that is replaced does have a perfectly acceptable SCC sourced replacement.
  12. I think it would be better if we culled non-SCC equipment and had deep storage if that's going to be a hang up. If the Horizon is ever to explore space beyond that of the established Spur or deep Frontier space, it needs to have its own storage reserves. Bluespace Travel is fast, but its not teleport between known and unknown space fast. I believe the mechanics should reflect the state of the lore where possible, and this is a situation where it is certainly makes more sense to have an elevator, given the Horizon's express purpose. The budgets exist purely to try and limit spending in non-emergency shifts. Captains and Executive Officers have access to special Horizon account with double the amount of money in it to move about for that express purpose.
  13. The Horizon's ultimate purpose is exploration. For that reason, to cement its ability to operate in deep space independently of SCC Cargo Relays and Sector Command, the Cargo Shuttle should be replaced with a Cargo Elevator that draws out requested items from a off-map "Deep Storage" site, similar to how Colonial Marines does it. In this new system, the "price" of the items we draw out of the Budget comes out of the Department Account as usual, as the SCC tries to limit how much supply is used per shift. In a sense, each department has 10,000 credits worth of emergency supplies to draw up from Storage on a shift to shift basis. If crew want a specific item, they basically just pay the SCC to draw some of its stock out of storage and transfer ownership to them. In this new System, bounties would need to be adjusted to be facilitated by the Orion Package Delivery System, but that is the only hold up I see for now.
  14. Make it a large stone monolith by the D3 cafe. Not because that isn't cool or anything, but so I can use my dead comrades as cover one last time.
  15. Hey, so you know how all offships have a [SHIP-NAME] channel to serve as their common channel? Let's do that on the Horizon to serve as our encrypted Common Channel, so we can finally turn off Green Common on our headsets if we don't want to hear chatter from multiple Z-levels. Its the neatest solution for people who don't want to hear about people being mauled by IPCs all day. I imagine that so people can access it regularly, a new access requirement of "SCCV Horizon" will need to be added to ID cards both crew and antag, but it is a small price to pay in exchange for network security.
  16. I think this should be removed. We have minimum age requirements for command to get people to be in the ball park. Adding incentives in forms of roll weight is unfair to players who make younger, or even older characters. So, big support for that PR.
  17. sec is encouraged to return PDA/Radio uplinks to antags regardless of metagame knowledge on what they do, unless the antag actually just, leaves the syndicate store open. Implant Uplinks half your TC prices, its a fair trade off to make them invisible.
  18. I'm absolutely open to other suggestions, I just wanted to bring attention to the gameplay and see if something could be done. I do agree that small, "surprise" weapons should remain accurate.
  19. Do you know what the best weapon for CQC currently is? An esword? Perhaps a fire axe? A spear with a bomb strapped to it? Wrong! Its currently any loaded gun. Guns do extra damage at close range and (as far as I am aware) can not miss at point blank, even if you are burst firing or mag dumping. I personally think it is silly that our characters can't really do anything to counter a barrel being pointed at their guts besides spam disarm and hope to get lucky. So, my suggestion is this: make point-blanking situational and dangerous to use mid-fight. Point Blanking Works As-is in the following situations: Your target is unarmed/handcuffed. Your target is horizontal on the ground. Point Blanking changes like this: If your target is armed with any item above normal-sized, they have a % chance to hit your gun with that object and move the barrel off-target, forcing a miss. Ideally, with the incoming skill re-work, this % can be controlled by that so Chefs are not ninjas with a rolling pin. Until then, just make it a flat chance so Officers/Antags have to stay back to get shots off. unless they want the extra point-blank damage and want to fish for it. If your target is using a personal shield point blanking may reflect the shot back at you.
  20. I agree with Sam. Keep them dangerous. Keep them threatening. Maps can be designed where a hoard can arrive under specific conditions as desired by the Synthetic Team, when they think it will best serve the story.
  21. ok if I understand how the radio code works, what would have to be done for this to work is that: Common is currently a "no-access" channel. If you have a handheld radio or something like it, it will grant you automatic access to Common. To fix the problem, a general "Horizon" access tag would need to be added to all ship-side roles to give them access to common. Hailing would then have to become a "no-access" channel that can be accessed by anyone using a handheld radio.
  22. Konyang Survivors want to RP and organize, so they use the radio, that's all well and good. But if they only have common to organize over, then the Horizon is dragged into their desperate survival attempts every round. Common should only be accessibly by Horizon Staff. A unique telecommunications channel should be created for Konyang. (perhaps Konyang Military also get a unique one) If they want to contact the Horizon, they can use Hailing like everyone else.
  23. Adding on to Brotendo's post, There seems to be a misunderstanding about how Skrell handle gender. Your app seems to indicate your Skrell has some kind of assumption of bigotry tied to their identity. Specifically at this line, From the main Skrell page, under the Gender and Sexes Header. Skrell did not have a concept of gender identity before they met Humanity and decided to play pretend while among them to better fit in. They are acting and adopting these traits at a whim, they do not typically have any strong emotions tied to their gender identity. Your app seemed to indicate this was assumed normal behavior. This may seem like a small thing to mention, but its important to us as a team that players understand a disconnection from Human assumptions is an important part of representing the Alien species and cultures in our setting. Additionally, its a relatively easy fix on the application.
