I don't understand why it has been removed, and it should never have been removed in the first place.

As much as I understand the point of "jokes" (I am actually oftentimes told I have a good sense of humor), I think there are times to jokes and times not to joke. Today is not one of those times. There are things to joke about, and things not to joke about. Rape; abortion; murder and racism. And then, there are also serious topics which should be respected and taken with respect. Large scale jokes can be disorienting and take aback certain users. In some extreme (but very real) cases, certain individuals can go in a state of panic when confronted with unexpected stimuli or unfamiliar environments. Changes to a website's layout or advertised purpose, for example, can cause people to dissociate or be met with heavy discomfort. Is the pain we cause really worth a small amount of amusement which we could easily procure through other means? Of course, I'm all for free speech, and rather than "remove" or "censor", I suggest we adapt, much like modern society has adapted customs and holidays to better fit the needs of the 21st century. Some sort of indicative marker, or "tag". could be appended to humorous posts (or perhaps some form of punctuation?) to help indicate them more clearly, while both avoiding confusion and leaving people with the freedom to joke around as they please. I believe this concept is not unfamiliar to this community's administrative staff, as I have previously been requested by them to indicate or signal my own jokes in some way, which I have thusly begun doing. I would prefer to see this as a transition period.

Let us cut to the chase, gents; I get that this thread might be ill-timed, but I believe I am fully serious when I say that the Secret gamemode is absolutely and crucially detrimental to the health of the server. Since I was but a young child (I'm actually fifteen now), I always wondered why people got so outraged at the Secret gamemode. More than one-a-day, I oftentimes saw people arguing, fighting, angrily yelling at each other over the hypothetical and supposed designated purpose of this particular (and peculiar) mode of play. And today, after much deliberation and wonder, I propose this singular and particular suggestion to finally solve the perplexing conundrum that has plagued this community since times immemorial: instead of removing Extended from Secret, why not remove Secret from Extended? The matter is simple, and the facts speak true. Servers that have removed Secret and switched to an Extended-only rotation (Hypatia, Yogstation) report a marked 35% decrease in player hostility, and an impressive reduction of up to 60% in banrates. Secret has for long been a breeding ground for disputes and battles, and rather than follow in the muddy and inept footsteps of our treacherous forefathers, I propose we solve this conflict in the true and tried American way: by getting rid of something we don't like. It is clear that the Secret gamemode is not a gamemode any one individual might enjoy; its dismerits are consistently decried, while praise of it remains unspoken. Thusly, it is safe to conclude that it remains unneeded and superfluous, and should be slated for removal without delay, and as soon as possible. To the community, I say: let antags be antags, and roleplayers be roleplayers.

All Resigning Staff Are Being Executed
Frances replied to CampinKiller's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Harsh much? You don't understand. -
I would also like to report that a terrorist bombed my house, because I just released my new mixtape.
-
I demand the votes be recount. I voted for myself and don't see my name being mentioned once in any of the categories.
-
I am in support of this idea, mostly because it means we would be getting a new station.
-
there is nothing that excites me more than the promise of unexpected chair roleplay
-
Maybe if we relaxed the rule on ganking and loaded all the food with hyperzine and tricord it would turn the station into a hunger games environment and then the cooks would feel truly appreciated. hunger games, get it

It's people like you who are killing Aurora. -
Can I kindly request we stop with those? It's getting more than a bit annoying. When I logged on the forums today, seeing the General board, I was utterly convinced nearly a third of our beloved staff were actually taking their leave from our (equally beloved) server. Needless to say this caused quite a bit of confusion. I finally managed to figure out the true state of the situation with the help of a few other individuals, but I think I'm not alone in speaking when I say this is the kind of thing we do not need here. Coming on here, all I wanted to do was roleplay, and instead I had to deal with this. At the very least, if people are insistent on keeping these April "jokes" here, could they be marked with some sort of indicative tag, so as to avoid further confusion? I trust I'm not alone here, and my opinion is shared by many others.

>tfw no qt bf to buy internet for you We get 7 down, 1 up. At $70 CDN/mo (55 USD?), this is considered a good deal. It's supposed to be 15 up (I think) but it's effectively 5-7, because "speed may not be consistent", which means ISPs can give us whatever they want as long as the network is theoretically capable of providing what's advertised. They don't even advertise upload speeds in Canada (because people might not know what they are for?) I do a lot of video editing for the company I work for and uploading my files from home takes so long I've given up and started bringing a HDD to the office. I would love to see what 50 mbs/up would look like. Good luck with your troubles. Edit: Whoops, wrong account. How do I delete this?

Would you be interested in opening a discussion specifically on what form the community would like Tajaran antagonism to take? I mean the present thread can kinda do that but there's a chance a specific topic like this one might get overlooked.
-
I'd suggest getting rid of the "Tajarans are terrorists" issue, or reworking it somehow. The main problem you seem to be getting with that particular idea is that very few people seem willing to play along with it. The race draws a specific kind of player, that kind of player doesn't take well to this particular conflict, and it sadly results in more OOC shenanigans than constructive and fun situations. I have seen a few players make a genuine attempt to treat Tajarans badly, but there aren't a lot who are actually succeeding, and feeling like the players get OOCly mad at you for trying to RP with them is kinda discouraging. This also ends up seeming like a one-sided act, because there's very little reward to playing the "Tajaran bad guy" aside from getting a small part of the station to arbitrarily dislike you. The work you've put into Tajarans turned them into a relatively unique race, especially in comparison to their less-mentioned Baystation origins. On this server, they are this weird expy of Big Brother-communist-China/Russia transposed in the Roaring Twenties, and it's an interesting enough blend of styles to allow them to stand out from the generic blandness the term "Alien Race" can so often inspire. Sadly, that is totally not something which is reflected in-game. While the players are responsible for how the race presents itself, I would fault the lore for that at least a little bit. The main challenge with Tajarans isn't to create good lore, or to amass a playerbase, it is to incite the playerbase to involve themselves with the lore. And don't go and say "they're all furries and don't give a shit"; I'm pretty sure even furries will play along if you give them something interesting to play with. So. Tajaran antagonists (and I mean antagonist in the broadest term, not as a gameplay system.) What should they be? Maybe, consult with the playerbase, see what they think would be fun to roleplay as to give a bit of conflict for the race. Terrorism as it's currently defined doesn't seem to be drawing that many fans, but maybe something else (an information network? a secret police?) will.

I mean, there are two questions to be considered here. Is there a difference between Tajarans and humans? Yes. Tajaran culture is much more conservative and much less open than humans'. There's a difference between a human and a Tajaran making lewd comments, because one is simply roleplaying workplace misbehavior, while the other is directly ignoring the species' lore. Should people be allowed to break character mildly under certain circumstances? Probably, yes. Otherwise this playing experience becomes really tedious and soulless. Was what happened here acceptable? If it was round end and everybody else was joking, then yyyyyeah, probably.

I'm kinda confused by this. RD is the most important job on the station lore-wise. The comparison to Muslims in america isn't really ideal either - americans are individually racist but few big corporations are openly so. NT, along with many human factions, openly "discriminate" against aliens, or put them on a different level. Anyway I don't see why Tajarans need to be put in question simply because Vaurca are. Tajarans are: -Much more "human-like" than Vaurca -Have been known for longer Not only are Vaurca very weird and decidedly more alien (tons of people are grossed out by insects, few are grossed out by cats), their social structure and behavioral patterns are very different. Heck, their notion of individuality is completely alien to us. As far as a I know, having a Vaurca sec officer is like allowing a small (and mildly retarded?) portion of the Vaurca hive to oversee security detail on your stations?

Wondering if anyone else here has Crohn's Disease. Sometimes playing this game makes me so mad it causes me to shit uncontrollably. Thankfully I keep my trusty toilet with me so I'm always ready to play SS13.

Eight month is a long time when you consider some people manage to overcome cocaine dependencies in shorter timelapses.
-
See, that's actually a valid reason. You should've included that in your OP. Makes it about more than "it's been a year so you should unban me just 'cause"
-
Well my doctors have told me I was particularly fat so I had to inject insulin anyway. I got fat from eating while playing SS13 btw.

Wondering if anyone else here has diabetes. (Type 2. The one that you get from being really fat.) Sometimes playing this game makes me so mad my blood sugar spikes and I enter a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state. (In fact my mommy has told me I should stop playing because it's beginning to endanger my health.) Thankfully I keep my trusty insulin injector with me so I'm always ready to play SS13.
