  1. I think it should flicker when shooting a firearm, but it is necessary to have held items remain invisible. The stealth suit consumes the backpack slot, and so if you want to use it you'd just have to lose 2 precious inventory spaces if you didnt want people to see floating items. A reasonable explanation is that it creates a stealth field close to your body and you could keep your items close to your chest when not using them. Anyway, I think "flicker" and "go offline" are two very different things and it should be noted. A flicker isn't even a whole second of being revealed, and thats what I think it should be. If even that proves too OP, then maybe nerf it further, but I am pretty sure that if you nerf it to have 2 seconds or so time where anyone can freely clickspam you, stealth suits will offer no help at all in combat. And don't say they aren't meant for combat, because they are. Also, the drain is not low. Recharging after 10 seconds of use would render it worthless unless, like TF2, it passively regenerated. It lasts for less than 100 seconds assuming you started with 100% power, which is not trivial to get. I think the current drain is just fine.
  2. I think this would clutter up the wiki for no benefit. Its spoonfeeding, as others have said, but also the chemistry page has all the info you need to make any chemical listed there. After you learn about catalysts, which the page describes, you can pretty simply make all listed chemicals from what it says already.
  3. The three bluespace crystals in telescience. As far as I know the only way to replace them is sink a good amount of time in xenobiology for this purpose, and no one ever does that.
  4. They actually can be escaped by the average person, it just requires some strenuous maneuvers, and/or the dislocation of one or two joints. A normal human is not capable of Houdini escapades. I am aware that trained freaks/magicians can escape from strait jackets, but I think that allowing every character to be a double jointed acrobat is going to create the problem of Aurora (or Exodus) being staffed entirely by genius acrobat boxers instead of just the genius boxers we have now. What I would like is Admins to be willing to (not that I ever asked- this idea just came to me) release people from straitjackets if they ahelp about it and have a valid reason for being able to escape (being an actual escape artist, being hulked, or some other valid reason). Freedom implants having a way to free you from a straitjacket would be nice too, if thats not already true. I haven't checked. My core position here is that a straitjacket should be exactly as robust or unrobust as it realistically would be considering all the circumstances. If you really are a traveling circus act or magician I think it would be fair to have an admin free you, with some sort of /me involved. Likewise if you are well equipped or just super strong (freedom implant, being a wizard that prepared for this, being a hulk) you should be able to bust out.
  5. I do find it very annoying how no matter what your special circumstances, they are unbeatable. Hulks, Lings, Wizards (with the right spell), Vamps(maybe), etc all have good reason to be able to escape one. Realistically, a normal human couldn't escape: that's the point of them irl. So I think a better solution is to remove them altogether or to make them harder to use/more rare. Maybe require them to be shipped in via cargo (why would this research station come equipped with a straitjacket? It seems like a holdover from lowrp memery.
  6. I don't see this movement as influencing muslims, christians, poo in loos, or atheists to join it. It is a political philosophy more than anything, and I don't see it having any purchase with religious people (because how does this philosophy extend down to religious rites? And how does it answer any big questions aside from what is our purpose?), and it wouldn't do any better with atheists than Humanism does today.
  7. May not: "Arrest a Head of Staff unless the arresting officer has personally observed the violation committed by the Head of Staff and it classifies as an Amber-level infraction or higher; Forcibly search or coerce a Head of Staff into being searched without a search warrant being signed+stamped and appropriated to the arresting officer;" Would mean that after a lawful arrest of a head you still cant search them. Please clarify.
  8. Name: Martin Richter Occupation: Biologist // MD Email: MRichter@NTMail.net Volunteering For: Male Model Experience: Former Sperm Donor OOC Notes: ckey is forum name
  9. It happened because my Head whitelist to make medbay great again was turned down. I saw this coming (really, I did) and just backed out and let it happen.
  10. in such a case would it be legal to pull the bodies out of cryo and search them for the stamp?
  11. Never met him. I heard he's a trap though.
  12. Eh, no, it wouldn't matter. Only droideka shields have that feature, personal shields do not. So how does it let air through, and presumably, objects using the GIVE verb?
  13. I think that armor should have a different sprite for gameplay reasons, but I don't support magic transmutation of the armor because its heresy to say that God grants major miracles (actual observable magic). Make the chaplain use a (red?) crayon on it (he has crayons in his office). Or better yet: null rod + crayon. Another thing: if zealots armed with swords is a thing, I'm sure security (reasonably) will confiscate their weapons. But, how about this? Null rod on a cult blade changes the energy blue and does the faith sword stuff. It also acts as a null rod, and on help intent doesn't harm. Could be seperable again too. So this sword would cut through cult walls, and probably banish ghosts in one swing. But there'd also only be one of them. (the other faith knights could just use the cult blades or other weapons.) I do think its a shame that people witness blood rune-walls disappear under a chaplain's rod and still keep their fedora on, though. Also, I think Occult response team is very strange unless NT actually knows about vampires and the nar'sie cult (and if they do that has trickle down implications for Aurora crew).
  14. Thanks Mofo for correcting yet another false witness of my abhorrent nature. The problem with my application is that in order to get it accepted I have to deflect a thousand slings and arrows like this. Totally wrong recounts of events, regulations, and other attacks that strain my efforts to categorize. I would hate to believe it is born of malice, Sierra and others. It is my opinion that Ove was right(at least I think this was him). What is plaguing this server is a myopic rush to judgement. Everyone has an incredible certainty that they are right, to the point that they just assume the missing puzzle pieces support their narrative. Sierra, you do this a lot actually. Here you just did it, and also in game as AI, where you falsely stated that an "illegal construction" was being built in science when Cy David said he was building it, when he merely announced his intention to do so. People trust DOs, and AIs, and even random people's word. When you say something as if you witnessed it yourself, people will believe you. It is a shame that you and others abuse this trust without even thinking about it.
  15. No I do not "hunt antags" and chaos is caused when people call sec on me when I'm peacefully in my lab testing out something genetics related like the GEOM disk. Accidentally flipping a table in my lab and the radio going "HNNNNNNNNNNG" is unfortunate but its not some evil thing. Also you hearing stories is not sufficient reason to deny my app. Prove to me, anybody, ONE case in the last month where I actually did something wrong. Admins have talked to me about some things and cleared me, and other things that people bring up were not even worthy of a talking to by admins. I contend that there are three discrete possibilities and want you to pick one: 1. My conduct as a geneticist is abhorrent as some claim. Therefore disciplinary action should be taken against me, as abhorrent behavior is punished by the admins. 2. My conduct as a geneticist is ONLY bad enough to be bad if a head of staff did it. So its a character issue not an ooc one. Therefore no disciplinary action should be taken against me because I am not a head of staff, AND so long as I make a new character who does not even touch genetics, I should be able to play heads of staff. 3. My conduct is a geneticist, while personally distasteful to you, is not objectively bad in any actionable way, and thus nothing should stop me from getting this whitelist. Pick one and only one (Or if you believe this to be a false choice, prove it). Citation needed for those two points you made up about self testing restrictions, but yes I do remain in my lab unless one of three things happens: 1. I am given written permission from a valid authority figure to leave my lab with powers active. 2. I am given verbal permission to leave my lab with limited powers. No hulk, no warmth, as both are ostentatious and attract the wrong kind of attention to me. Telekinesis depends. I sometimes keep that active in medbay because its amazingly helpful to toss roller beds, body bags, medical supplies, etc around and to generally improve my efficiency at everything I do. Again, with verbal permission from relevent authorities. 3. There is some sort of catastrophic emergency and as an IAA would say things are far from standard operation. I'm not going to waste time depowering myself when someone is bleeding to death outside my door and I need to take them to the body scanner then back to my lab, for example. No one ever complains DURING the fact when I do this, I wonder why? Another example would be if a gunman came into my lab: I might raise my hands in surrender, run away, or robust them depending on what I calculate would be the safer option for my character and the best RP. (If they try to take me hostage - not that anyone ever does stick up the geneticist sadly - I'd cooperate. If they killed my waifu I might lean more towards the robust them option, if I think I can do it without getting shot (if they are unrobust antags). The problem arises when number 3 happens and the situation does not deescalate for a good while. It is during these moments that people might actually start paying attention to medbay (not when I'm in my lab clicking buttons and rping and treating suspicious burns on people's hands) and say "look at him, powered and outside of his lab. Tut-tut Melkior, how can you ignore the supercancer! bad rp!" So yes, the mob can definitely be wrong about a feeling if that feeling is founded on a combination of negativity bias, and confirmation bias (genetics is bad plz ban! geneticists are bad!), and just the fact they they don't observe me during most of my round, only during the parts where a super-doctor takes the spotlight (or when things really go to shit and I have to employ violence. But I hasten to add that this truly is a rare occurrence, relative to the amount of rounds I play where nothing crazy at all happens and I just do my job as a doctor and biologist.) No I don't, prove it. See above. And I promise you, you can screencap this: I will never ever play Martin Richter as a Research Director. So if you're worried about the personality of Richter in charge of those materials, you can be at ease. If I ever did make a character that was RD (or any head, really) I would go by the books because If a head fails to follow the rules and it causes an issue, they can lose their whitelist or be jobbanned (or fired, in character.) The more responsibility I am invested with in character, the more responsible I act, because I understand and avoid punishment. I'll tackle this: First, no, supercancers are NOT a thing. You know what are a thing? Mutagens. Mutagens so severe they destroy genes beyond saving. Mutagens so powerful they can liquefy you. So powerful that no amount of cloning post-contact will save you. Of course - that's not a reason (anymore) to ban self-testing. You replace one unfounded boogeyman for another. But as you say, its irrelevant, so lets more past this. Well that's security's job to worry about, not mine. If I were running amok on station and got mad at security for brigging me for it, Then you would have a reason to bring this up. I don't mind or complain about increased survailance, or sec being dicks to me in character. I do mind when they take it too far and arrest me when I don't break any regs and would win a lawful argument in a fair tribunal, but on the other hand I do understand why it happens, and so I don't file player complaints or anything like that. Clever word choice. I cannot know for certain what I am most often "seen" as but I do know what I most often actually am: a white man speaking in a normal tone. I restate my challenge. Prove me guilty of wrongdoing in ONE case in the last month, involving genetics. There is a really that official decisions should not be based on feelings. I already addressed this earlier in this post. Glad we agree. Again, prove it. Its unfair to deny me based on feelings, when I am a robust, rule abiding player who would make medbay great again. If someone could answer this, what exactly ARE the official qualifications for a whitelist? Not sure what you mean by my disposition. Edit in response to your edit: monarchies aren't the only social hierarchy fam. Also, that question was only asking about the OOC responsibilities of a whitelistee. I didn't commend on IC responsibilities like " tackle the shit when it goes wrong." because it was immaterial to the question. Geneticists are science and medbay staff, as indicated by the manifest, and many other things. I didn't think this was a question. Anyway Richter is a Biologist, formally. Why do you think he is provided with a surgery table in his lab? The intended purpose, yes, is experimental surgery, maybe alien autopsies (inb4 that's the xenobiologist's job, with a mere scalpel and saw). But there is nothing preventing a character from being versed in medicine and genetics. A good deal of CMOs have displayed at least basic understanding of the science of genetics, and my character's backstory qualifications are not unrealistic. People IRL obtain MD's and Ph.Ds in genetics, today. And also "comparative genetics isn't a thing." Yea, well in 2016 we don't have xeno races to compare our genetics with, but I'm going to make you eat your words anyway.
  16. I don't think the disposal pumps are that strong. They are wide enough holes to fit an entire man through them (roughly) so giving them overpowering suction seems like a horrible idea. Edit: (Or, a great one.)
  17. I don't see why NT would care to filter out eccentric but qualified scientists. This isn't shadowrun where every megacorp employee is a soulless wageslave. I can see it being a uniform issue for security, but other than that... your safety is your responsibility.
  18. No, its part of the contract. It IS assumed that Nanotrasen makes their Geneticist's sign a wavier allowing them to self test but it is not recommended at all due to the severe heath risks that could come from it. (Types of Supercancer basically) And you just made up the supercancer thing. There is no reason for me to believe it causes supercancer if you treat the radiation damage properly. I would like to take this moment to note that self testing is a reason why people are coming down on me, but it is in fact not a bad thing to do by any objective standards that this server uses. This is a case of the mob being wrong. Self testing should not be used to argue for a denial of this application.
  19. Things like this.. You are a good player, but your conduct as Martin Richter and genetics is appalling, complete disregard for paperwork or your characters health.. -1 for now.. I record the genetics blocks every time. That's my papertrail. I'm not the RD or CMO so its not my job to enforce whatever other paperwork you're talking about, but if I get a test subject or if I want to leave my department with genetics I go through the chain of command like a good boy. Whether that means a verbal agreement or paperwork, I defer to the RD's choice on that. And how do I disregard my character's health? I take all the necessary safety precautions, and trust me getting hurt on the job sucks and I try to avoid it ooc and ic.
  20. No, but I find it highly unrealistic to know how to do everything as a Geneticist. From rounds where I've played Medical, I've seen you literally taking patients that could be attended to by an EMT or Doctor, and treating them yourself, and doing surgery on them yourself (even when there's trained Surgeons), and doing triage, instead of...doing Genetics things. Also, the bolded portion just makes that event even worse in my opinion. What sane person would go 'Oh, time to inject myself with this dusty thing found in space that I have no idea what it will do to me, which is a major breach of scientific procedure and ethics!' I limit myself to only very basic chemistry, and I don't do brain surgery, saying that IC I don't know how. I don't know how to do virology either. So all I do know how to do is my scientific duties, and surgery (which I spend a lot of time ICly practicing on protohumans, and I have an MD! Its a requirement to work in genetics. And you're right I do sometimes take patients, in fact I do in not infrequently, because very often the surgeon is AFK, the EMT is busy, or I'm just in the right place at the right time and part of the medical staff so of course I'm going to save the guy's life instead of waiting for backup I don't need. How is this a bad thing? He is 34 years old its not like he's Doogie Hauser or something. People often complain about the efficasy of medbay. I see it a lot in deadchat and sometimes in ooc. And that's because sometimes medbay does suck. I am campaigning for CMO to make medbay great again, and I definitely have what it takes to do it. Edit: Also worth noting, often I completely finish in genetics and at such times I join the medbay staff as a full member (or in the cases where medbay is fully functional without my help, I go on break or try to do things with science team).
  21. I'll that this as you conceding on the Bridge "storming" issue with the other geneticist. Very well. This next example you brought up is months old. it was old news when I made my first application, and I was asked to help by the ERT at the time who valued my ability to smash walls. And it was a personal grudge because the AI killed my friend. Regardless, I submit that this is no longer indicative of my character and is thus not a reason to deny me. I mean, how long would be long enough to live that down? Please, no stories that are older than my last whitelist application which was over at like December 15th.
  22. This is a real story. Its the only time I got into a fight borne of anger.
  23. Ah! I do remember that, thanks. Okay, that was the time I told you about when I went to the bridge to try to help the people stuck up there. Yes, Richter is a brave doctor and I know some people don't like high but realistic heroism, but its very different from "storming" the bridge to stop a known dangerous hostile force like I'm a hulk swat team. I don't believe this is a reason to downvote my application. Yes, you stormed the Bridge, there were people up there that we dead and there was already an announcement and contact with the ERT. You had no reason to go up there. But besides that, there have been other instances where you do the general same thing. I just strongly feel that you do not deserve the whitelist until your character changes. Our definitions of storm must be different. I didn't break a wall, I just walked through the holes in the wall to the bridge where yes, people were dead. It's my job as a good biologist to clone people, and if I sit around and wait on bodies to come to my door very often they never get cloned so I want to save them. What precisely is wrong with this action? The circumstances of the situation meant I, in character, should rationally be confident that I won't die when all I hear is "there's emergencies up ahead." If the announcement had been "singuloth is loose, engineers are all dead!" I definitely would have avoided that out of genuine fear of death, but having no idea, and knowing its on the bridge, I didn't think it could be anything so dangerous that just going to see what it is would get me killed while I am a super tough regenerative xray vision having superman with deadly psionic powers. You should note that I was actually surprised by the horror of what I found, and so I ran away as fast as I could. These are not the actions of a validhunter. If you people don't like genetics because its powerful or whatever, that is NOT a valid reason to disparage someone's in character decision making when they use the powerful thing that exists in game (and the debate of if genetics is 2strong and needs banned is immaterial to this discussion). I didn't hear that ERT was on the scene and even if I did, they are only going to make the place more safe(and if they were engaged in combat I'd be able to see it ahead of time and back out of there)! And its not like, if they had some serious emergency to deal with, they'd be bringing bodies in to be cloned any time soon. The alternative would be to waste my unique ability to be a hero that I perceive in character and that out of character I did NOT intentionally set up. And sorry but as a good guy, Martin Richter isn't going to leave his crewmembers behind. In summary my actions were not bad here, and also you can't just toss in a "oh well you do other stuff that's bad too" at the end to indict me if I defend myself here. If I can not be shown to have done wrongdoing since my last whitelist appeal, then I should be given this whitelist, because my competence is apparently not up for debate.
  25. When did that ever happen? And are you saying I get salty ooc for transgressions IC? What are you saying there, and give an example. If you are asking about the you storming the Bridge, I was there and saw that happen. Just pointing that out there. When. I can't defend an event I don't even know about.
