  1. i guess all i can say here, is that i think you're wrong. A trip to medical (often for self inflicted injuries) is a chance for a player to get out of a secure area under the guard of only one officer, there's a whole lot less standing between him and freedom, and many choose to make a break from it. feels like it happens almost every shift, sometimes several in one I've never seen anyone get winded as a result of it
  2. A thought has come to mind. There are quite a few items on aurora which are rare or unique. And with many of them, it's not necessarily the case that they're complex or inherently valueable, but just that for various reasons (such as game balance, or oversights) these things are irreplaceable and useful. Or at least, extremely hard to replace I'm interested in gathering a list of these items Why? Well mostly for curiosity, but also for antag fun possibly. A list of interesting things that heisters could try to steal, which will have more impact on the station than just taking money or a a nuke disk. Or maybe that would be frowned upon, but i'd like to make a list anyway. A couple of things i have so far: The Captain's spare ID (of course) Medical's straightjacket The Janitor's cart The Galoshes The Light replacer An EMT's utility belt The Captain/CE/RD's special EVA suits Pretty much every rubber stamp on the station The Hypospray The RCD The Box of Death Tracker Implants Roboticist's starting posibrain stacks of plasteel from robotics and engineering the five phoron crystals from chemistry The Suspension Field Generator from the research outpost All the pets (runtime, punpun, tom, ian, etc) These are all things that come to mind, which either can't be replaced, or are very difficult/expensive to I'm interested in growing this list. Any others you guys can think of?
  3. There is a penalty for using it. It's that theres only one on the station, no others can be created or bought, and using it deprives medical of the ability to restrain violent patients. It can only be used to remove one antag from the round, and antags rarely come alone
  4. Yes they're based on IC reasoning, as a lot of things on aurora are. I don't enjoy doing medical paperwork but it makes sense for the setting. Sometimes things are sacrificed for RP value. Chemists get to make medicines and not spray acid all over the place. Security officers only get lethal weapons in limited circumstances. Rules are there to curb what everyone does, to prevent it affecting other people's RP too much Does the warden not deserve to enjoy the round, as well? He'd often like to do his job writing up reports, coordinating people from the cameras, and walking around RPing with prisoners. If all his time is spent babysitting one uncontainable asshole then he can't do that. We've all seen them, the people who don't RP pain or consequences at all, who will spam every ability and hostile action they have available. And when they get flashed or peppersprayed down, they'll spam all theikr stuff again as soon as they get up. Like the vampire that uses glare every time its off cooldown, and the wizard that uses magic missile on anything near him at all times If these people want to RP seriously, they can take pain and consequences into account, they can talk to people around them, they can act the well behaved prisoner, at least for a while. People who do that are generally unlikely to get straightjacketed by good officers. Bad ones, you ahelp. You can't really ahelp for bad RP, or an overly aggressive antagonist. Doctors and surgeons deserve to have fun too, we join medical because we want to treat patients. Some supernaturally powered prisoner who starts attacking doctors makes life hell for us, of course i'm going to sedate and straightjacket him. The straightjacket ensures that, when he wakes up, he can still talk and roleplay with other people. If i REALLY wanted to take someone out of the round i can inject them with so much soporific they'll sleep for an hour straight. That's just not fun for anyone and i avoid sedating people when possible, the jacket is by far the better option The people i just described are the ones who tend to die or get seriously hurt in the field. When someone keeps getting back up, officers will use progressively more and more force to keep them down. We often see people with broken ribs and legs, and fractured lungs, resulting from an arrest in a simple barfight or argument. When i witness these arrests i see why it happenss, these people just will not stay down, they're not willing to sacrifice a few minutes of their own time to play along as a vulnerable, mortal human being. Which instead results in them spending a much longer period in medical asleep. Sometimes these injuries are too severe. When you're facing officers armed with lethal lasers on a solar array in the ass end of maintenance, if you keep getting back up at every opportunity you're just going to die. Actions have consequences. The straightjacket is a lesser consequence than death, or paralysis, or having all your limbs broken, or permanant sedation. Actions are always going to have consequences, if you remove one option, worse ones will take its place The problem with people being taken out of a round, is a combination of their behaviour, and the officers applying the jacket too liberally. These are both IC RP problems, and removing a tool isn't going to fix anything
  5. As you can see, making people pay for healthcare seems like opening a can of worms. I'd vote that we just handwave it away that NT takes liability for all conditions that arise in the workplace, and fully covers healthcare for anyone working there. as mentioned previously, there is still room to use money for buying things from chemistry, and the medical department could still use their funds for ordering supplies from cargo, and advanced equipment from science Incidentally, medical needs to be able to order more things from cargo. Premade advanced medicines, filled blood bags, organs and biomatter for cloning would all be nice
  6. I also recall a mention of the janitor closet being turned into a tiny 1x1 square, which seems dumb to me. I hope that's been changed. In any case though, the new map is an indeterminate (and possibly long) time away. This is a really quick and simple change to make, i'd really like to see it ASAP.
  7. 100% agreed, its silly that you can't configure a medical bot you just built. it makes no sense that a (presumably untrained) end user has to open the panel to configure their robot. Seems like doing that would void the warranty
  8. to restrain violent or mentally unstable patients, the reason its typically used for. there's clearly no shortage of them on aurora, i see a lot of IC reason to have it The station has a dedicated psychiatrist role, and a chaplain. Those are psychological support, they wouldn't be needed unless there was a high ocurrence of psychological issues on space stations. Psychs treat mentally unstable people, a straight jacket is an essential tool of their job I would be in favour of some IC regulation restricting its usage to only those judged unstable, but then that leaves security unable to effectively contain certain antagonists, who thusly can't safely be taken to the psychiatrist to begin with When i'm in medical, i always make it very clear that the one and only straightjacket on the ship belongs to medical, and that we need it for medical use. I demand it back from security after prisoners are delivered into their custody
  9. I don't get the attitude here. Yes they're a permanant solution, they're supposed to be. The ability to effectively keep people imprisoned is the reason you don't execute them. It's the reason a society is able to have humane laws and regulations. you're not supposed to be able to break out of prison, that's the exact opposite of the thing they're built for When you're already dealing with an influx of new criminals, the last thing you want is your existing criminals breaking out. trying to manage a large number of prisoners is hugely frustrating for security, and it gets to the point where even the most nice and lawful players are really wishing they could just execute them Is prison supposed to be fun? I don't think so. If you end up there as a non antag, its your punishment for breaking IC rules. If you end up there as an antag, it's your punishment for losing the game. The communal area where you can socialise with other players is provided as a means of making the experience more bearable, most officers will be nice to you too if you're well behaved. If you're the type of prisoner who's going to repeatedly attempt escape, and disarm or assault the warden every chance you get, why shouldn't you be perma bound in isolation? you're just annoying someone else and they're using logical means to remove the problem. I don't see an issue with a straight jacket being too powerful. Maybe its overused for minor situations. If you've been a well behaved prisoner and are still abandoned in an isolation cell, ahelp about it. If you haven't been, then your character deserves what they get. depowering nonlethal means of subduing is just going to mean more accidental field executions and less effort being put forth to save your dying corpse, because bringing you into the brig is more trouble than it's worth Besides, aren't antags allowed an exception to the suicide rule, last i checked? If its really unbearable, die and respawn.
  10. auuugh, the janitor slot keeps getting taken by griefers who just screw around, or by people who get antag, and thus murder things instead of doing the job. Either way in 60% of the rounds, the station ends up a total mess, and its hard to do anything about it effectively without that janicart. There's no reason for janitor to be so restricted, give us the second janitor slot at least. please make it happen soon. I have a character just for playing janitor and i get to use her so rarely
  11. now that the character list is properly updated, seeing that you're sam fincher was awesome, i love that guy. Loudmouthed, friendly, very noticeable, very good at what he does, and curses like a drunk scot. Definitely someone i like having around, +1 from me
  12. Will we be getting the like button back? I rather liked that
  13. I hate this idea. I already have the entire unathi race, half of security, most engineers, the xenobiologists, miners, and a whole ton of other people refusing minor treatment. Sometimes they die as a result of it because they had blood poisoning, or their tiny untreated cuts got infected and gave them sepsis, or because they walked into a dangerous situation with less than peak health, and didn't have as much time as they thought they would. Being treated in medical takes people out of what they wanted to do for a while, for the sake of their health. Getting them to come in is a chore. More reasons to refuse treatment are the last thing we need imo. I'm very staunchly against making crewmembers directly pay for medical treatment in any form Besides, that's not at all how real hospitals make money. You don't allow patients to refuse minor things. You run as many unnecessary tests, procedures and treatments as you possibly can, you treat them for every tiny minor ailment, and prescribe mountains of pills. and you bill it all to their insurance company with a huge profit margin on everything you do.
  14. I could see this working, if it came with less questions. Chemistry, and the game in general, would be a lot more interesting if antags could buy space lube, sedatives, poisons, acids, and assorted elements without being looked at funny and pinging security. Just pay the costs and get what you want. There's a who lot of chemicals and medicines that have little or no beneficial application, and are thus just never made except by griefers. If things stayed as restricted as they are now, though, paying for chems would just add an extra layer of pointless work to the already rarely-used process of prescriptions
  15. I like the ideas. Although i'm questioning why put a scanner at medical. Healthcare should be covered by insurance and be provided free to employees. A scanner might make sense if people want to purchase certain medical items, but i don't want them paying for healthcare.
  16. this was actually my first draft of the idea, but i reconsidered it because it seemed a bit much. with a 3x3 space cleaner, you'd never use the mop at all, it'd be a bit too easy
  17. No janicart, which is crippling No light replacer, which is a huge pain No galoshes, which is something of an annoyance Unless these items are added to a custodial crate, or made constructable somehow, that idea doesnt work
  18. A janitor struggles to compete with a janiborg, their ability to clean floors is astoundingly fast. I'd like to close the gap a little, though they'll still be faster at things Three new Items: 1. Hand Vacuum: This would be default equipment in the janitor closet, and should have a space on the janicart for storing it. It should also be added to the loadout of janitor borgs A wide necked vacuum used for picking up trash off the floor. When used on a tile (by clicking the floor, not just specifically on an item's sprite) it would pick up ALL trash items on that tile instantly, possibly with a loud vacuuming sound. Cigarette butts, drink cans, snack packets, spent matches, etc. It would also pick up bullet casings, spent shotgun shells, mouse/nymph corpses, broken drones, and other things that tend to clutter the floor. When used on a disposal inlet, trash bag, or a janicart with a trashbag, it would empty its contents into it 2. The Automop: An upgraded mop that is created at R&D, by fabricating some kind of special component with a low/moderate tech requirement, and then attaching it to a normal mop. The Automop would have a spinning head that would clean floors much faster, reducing the mopping time from the usual 5 seconds, to a much shorter time of somewhere between 0.5-2 seconds 3. The Bluespace Cleaner: Probably created by attaching a bluespace beaker and a power cell, to a normal space cleaner bottle, so again it requires R&D support. The Bluespace Cleaner would hold a lot more liquid, at least twice as much as usual. It'd also come with an enhanced mode, when using the high pressure nozzle (10u per spray) it would clean a Plus shaped area (+) of five tiles centred where you click, instead of jut a single tile

    Mice Babies

i think you just like playing mice. I see no issues with it personally, more mice means more food for unathi
  20. As a regular janitor player, i agree. The Galoshes and the janicart are the most critical things, those cannot be built or ordered from cargo afaik. I'd be happy with duplicating only those things, and expecting a second janitor to order a custodial crate for the rest of the stuff Also, please add galoshes to the whitelist of items that aren't deleted when the wearer goes to cryo
  21. Shard Capturing the Stars doesn't seem to like me much, but that''s not necessarily a bad thing. He at least seems to RP disliking things pretty well. A new character is a new start, and hopefulyl a new chance to be friends +1 from me <3

    Mice Bites

A bite that does no damage is counterintuitive. If they're going to have a bite, it should hurt, however little. 1 brute damage. It'd also give people a very good reason to murder mice who bite things Also, everyone needs this
  23. I'm sure we used to have this feature, i don't know where it's gone. We should be able to scoop up mice and do things with them, like diona nymphs. Carry them in our hands, wear them on our head, or just toss them into disposal. It's especially annoying as a janitor, when mice infest the chapel i have to go drag a locker from departures to collect them, and then convince some synthetic to let me space them in the mass driver. I can't just scoop their corpses up and toss them in a trashbag like i really ought to be able to. Whether as pets or as vermin to be disposed off, we need to be able to pick up mice
  24. I like you, you're nice, as a person. You talk to me a lot in OOC chat, and you're always pretty cool. But i'm not sure who you play. The one name given here, is not one that i recognise. Do you play any other characters? I tried asking in the server today, but didnt get a response, perhaps you missed it. You seem like a good person, but its hard to give feedback about your characters, when i'm not sure if i've ever met any
  25. breached areas are sealed off by flashing shutters. All opening non-flashing shytters does is redistribute air around a few rooms, which usually does more good than harm, as it repressurises one room while keeping the pressure in adjacent ones well above safe levels opening a door to a breached area is what kills. You can't do that without a crowbar, and when you do no warning is given anyway. No good purpose is served here
