I agree with pretty much everything Chevalier said. Most especially about the nature of the unbound being vessels to inhabit I checked the viology section and i don't agree with the idea of eggs being chosen to be bound or unbound, I liked Chevalier's idea better: That all vaurca are born unbound, their minds are seperated from their bodies and uploaded to the VR, their left behind bodies become bound vaurca. Any Unbound should come out of the VR after decades of experience learning and developing within it, to inhabit a body. No vaurca should be born to be unbound, or designated from birth for a permanant life outside the VR, imo.

I'm one of the biggest fans of the vaurca, and i want to keep them. Lorewise, the idea of having bround crewmembers around who follow orders from everyone is really fun,. I always interact with them and give them something to do when i see the,. The whole virtual reality thing is really impressive and gives them an unfathomable depth as a species, it's provided a few talking points with unbound vaurca. A better undersdtanding of it can be gained from CMF's work http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=5243 Mechanically, i like that they don't naturally heal. It means they have to come to medical more often for every tiny thing, and that means I, as a doctor, have consistent patients to build relationships with I'm definitely against removing them, and somewhat against modifying them to any significant degree. Ill look into the proposed changes and see what i think, though this does feel rather sudden

That sounds like an awesome idea, how would i go about it? I've gotten as far as making a discord account. where does the aurora crowd hang out?

Duplicate Custodial Closet Items And Add Additional Janitor Slot
Nanako replied to a topic in Completed Projects
Wait, really? That never happens. Yaaay <3 -
I feel like you're right here. Routine fullbody searches of all departing employees are unlikely to be a thing. searching would only happen in situations where someone feels it warranted, like there's suspects still not caught

Its worth noting that smokedfish has now indefinitely retired from playing on aurora, and is unlikely to be seen anymore. -
Duplicate Custodial Closet Items And Add Additional Janitor Slot

No When things get really bad, noe janitor just can't handle it, the mop is not fast enough. I've played rounds where i janited my heart out constantly and still couldn't keep up with the mess. at seriously bad times a second one is needed Also your statement about going SSD doesn't make sense. Four security officer slots doesn't mean four SSD officers More people to fill a job means less chance that all of them will be SSD at once. It also means that should one janitor go SSD, the other can find them (custodial locator yay), recover their sleeping body (because same access) and cryo them so that a third person can take that slot. And, as jackboot mentions originally, it also means that they can buddy up. Instead of standing alone mopping hallways, they can team up, discuss how to divide labour, and thus avoid loneliness and boredom. they can spend time together grumbling about how messy people are, and trade tips about janiting, learn from each other. Everyone deserves some socialisation. Having someone to talk to means less chance of going SSD Thus i argue, having two janitors will mean a net decrease in the frequency of SSD janitors, not an increase -
I'm currently working on a sprite edit for submitting, someones idea from the suggestion forum and also a learning experience. I tried editing the sprite within dream maker, did some of the work i needed, but not enough, so i exported the DMI for that sprite movie, renamed it as png and opened it in photoshop, that works. did the necessary editing there, everything looks great. Now i have an image which contains four sprites, one for each direction, and i'm wondering how to bring it back in. Importing this combined image directly into a DMI somehow brings in five images, the full combined thing, and the four directions named as 0/1/2/3 That's a bit of a mess though. I figure what i want to do is remake it by making a new mobie, and importing images into that. I tried that, and it resulted in the combined image being dumped into one frame Is there a better way to do this? I could cut it up into four images manually in photoshop and import those one at a time, though that seems like it could be a pain in the futre. are there any other workflows for reimporting an edited sprite sheet and remaking a movie from it?

I like this idea, swipe your ID to open and close the container. Asking for access and ID processing takes time. People are dying. Asking the AI is good if its there, but AIs are often not present, afk, or otherwise unresponsive. It would suck to an unbelievable degree to die while doctors look on, because the AI's player went to the bathroom. Give them to security? Sure, i've often thought about the same thing. However a fire axe is a cumbersome item, and security often wants to carry other things. Personally I'd rather see security get some kind of specialised doorjacking tool that'd work even better, but that's an idea for another thread

Reporting Personnel:Nanako Herzreich Rank of Reporting Personnel:Security Cadet Personnel Involved: Inesski Sslasskir (Xenobiologist i believe) Bark That Forms a Prison (Warden) Ivgeni Sokalov (Security Officer) Dylan Wright (Interim Head of Security) Time of Incident: Real time:19.54 Location of Incident:Departure shuttle Nature of Incident: [x]Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty []Harassment [x]Assault [x]Misconduct []Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: While boarding the shuttle, Inesski Sslasskir brought aboard two large slimes, and an adamantine golem in a biosuit. He claimed these slimes were apparently tamed and not a threat, though i can't be certain about that, but threat or not ,experiments do not belong on the shuttle I informed him repeatedly that this was not allowed and the slimes had to leave. I told him to remove them, and he alternated between ignoring me, and then outright refusing with a very curt No. It is against regulations for experiments to leave the station, they are supposed to remain within the science wing. On this note, i began removing the slimes from the shuttle myself, i threw one back outside and went for the other. Warden Bark came in at this point, and instead of helping to enforce regulations, he decided to grab ME and throw me out of the shuttle. He issued no orders or explanation for this action, and simply sat down and said nothing for the rest of the flight. there was no time to question him. I brushed off this assault as time was short. I attempted to remove the other slime, but Inesski grabbed it and started leading it in a circle around the shuttle to avoid me, while his golem went out and brought the first slime back in. Officer Ivgeni Sokalov came out of the shuttle brig to attempt to assist with this removal, but inesski wasted a lot of time by evading us around the shuttle, and we were unable to remove any of these three experiments before the doors closed and took off. The slimes were eventually siezed while in flight and locked in one of the shuttle storage rooms, and inesski continually tried to shove past officer sokalov attempting to retrieve them, claiming over comms 'They are pets now'. The slimes are scientific experiments owned by NT, and as such are corporate property, trying to make them pets is theft. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: Interim Head of Security Dylan Wright was present Additional notes: I accuse Dr Sslasskir of misconduct and theft, and I accuse Warden Bark of neglect of duty and assault for his deliberate interference against security actions

after finally trying out the fireaxe during a malf AI round today, i have to rescind my earlier opinion. The fire axe is amazingly useful for breaking through windows, airlocks, and grilles. i support this idea

Duplicate Custodial Closet Items And Add Additional Janitor Slot

agreed. extra janitor slot nao pls -
Alright now i'm really curious about sprites, ive opened up a couple of DMI files. They look like images, but when they open in dream maker, it's as a series of disconnected and individually selectable icons. What exactly is a DMI file? Is it a source image with some extra data on how to cut it into icons? Is it just an image and the cutting is done on load according to whitespace or somesuch? Or is it a database and the file browser image is just a preview generated somehow?

A miscommunication here. I'm talking about the level of detail, not the size. The soft shading on that, and highlighted edges of the glass parts, couldn't be done with low resolution. I'm well aware that image resolution, and visible area on screen are not necessarily related Right now, i'm trying to get it to compile, the compiler throws four errors, two each of two types code\__HELPERS\text.dm:186:error: replacetext: invalid proc name: reserved word code\__HELPERS\text.dm:189:error: replacetextEx: invalid proc name: reserved word code\game\machinery\computer\supply.dm:315:error: replacetext: expected 3 to 5 arguments (found 1) code\game\machinery\computer\supply.dm:111:error: replacetext: expected 3 to 5 arguments (found 1) baystation12.dmb - 4 errors, 0 warnings (4/19/16 1:02 pm) So first of all /proc/replacetext(text, find, replacement) return list2text(text2list(text, find), replacement) /proc/replacetextEx(text, find, replacement) return list2text(text2listEx(text, find), replacement) I dont see anything wrong here, with my admittedly tiny knowledge of this language. It looks like these functions have just been given names that are reserved words. Does this mean they've been defined elsewhere and/or recently become reserved in some code sync? I can't see how this would have worked until now unless some recent change has broken it The other issue is within the code that generates supply request forms var/obj/item/weapon/paper/reqform = new /obj/item/weapon/paper(loc) reqform.name = "Requisition Form - [P.name]" reqform.info += "<h3>[station_name] Supply Requisition Form</h3><hr>" reqform.info += "INDEX: #[supply_controller.ordernum]<br>" reqform.info += "REQUESTED BY: [idname]<br>" reqform.info += "RANK: [idrank]<br>" reqform.info += "REASON: [reason]<br>" reqform.info += "SUPPLY CRATE TYPE: [P.name]<br>" reqform.info += "ACCESS RESTRICTION: [replacetext(get_access_desc(P.access))]<br>" reqform.info += "CONTENTS:<br>" reqform.info += P.manifest reqform.info += "<hr>" reqform.info += "STAMP BELOW TO APPROVE THIS REQUISITION:<br>" The issue is the call to replacetext. It's invalid because only one argument, a single string, is passed. As far as i can see there's no reason to even call replacetext here, it's just defining a string containing a variable, and i can fix it by just changing that line to reqform.info += "ACCESS RESTRICTION: [get_access_desc(P.access)]<br>" I can't actually compile to test whether this works though, because of the reserved word error. i'd need to know how that situation came about, to know what to do to fix it. So how does everyone keep in touch and help each other? Is there a developer subforum for asking for help when stuff won't compile? Or does everyone use discord/IRC and pastebin, or some similar setup? I can't imagine it being optimal to depend on skull personally being around for every time i need help

recently ive mostly worked with unity engine and C#. in the past ive worked with lsl and as3 extensively, and smaller doses of html and PHP. I've been coding on and off in some form for about nine years, pretty familiar with some of the workings of object oriented language. i'd say my coding skill is journeyman, moderate. Version control software, i understand the principles, but have only actually used it once, i worked as part of a small team on a civ IV mod, we had a tortoise svn server run by one of the team members, i was making lots of commits almost every day in the couple of months i worked with them. i was on that team as an artist so it was largely xml and assets i was committing.

hmm, not quite getting what you mean here, isn't it typical to double these things at each step? I'm curious about the resolution of the sleeper bed, for example: what's the resolution of this? no way its 32^2 looks more like 256 to me? am i to understand that sprites can have variable resolutions, as long as they stick to those increments? Can item sprites be made as detailed as desired (technically speaking, not a matter of policy)

I have an idea for a contract i'd like to post I'm looking at the web interface, and it's pretty neat. But i'm confused about the rewards thing, how is that actually done? Since money in accounts seems to be randomly generated each shift, would i withdraw what i can each round and pay it in installments? Or would an admin magically spawn the money for them? Or do we just pretend that pyment happened and noe xchange really takes place. i'm confused about the RP of it, i guess

I have a great interest in improving things, as can probably be seen from my many suggestion threads. I also have considerable coding and photoshop talents from working in a variety of other engines and environments. I've considered submitting a developer application, but held off because i don't know much about byond specifically. I figure i should trry to learn and submit a few things so i'd have something to show, to back that up.. So, lots of questions come to mind: 1. What's the general setup for modding, coding and testing SS13? Is there a guide for setting up the development environment? What tools and editors are used? 2. What languages is our code written in? I'm mainly interested in in-engine stuff, not web services. I've seen mention of needing a PHP developer in the past. Is PHP used for things within the engine? 3. Where can i find the art assets? What formats and resolutions are recommended for various sorts of sprites? I have a few sprite ideas i'd like to do and submit first of all I'll probably have a ton more questions once i get deeper into things, so i may have lots more to ask in this thread later. but that should generate some lengthy answers for now.

i agree, this made little sense. It shouldn't restrain the legs in any way

ooh the captain's gloves come to mind. As far as i'm aware they're the only other thing (besides insulated gloves) that give 100% shock resistance, and they're irreplaceable right?

Duplicate Custodial Closet Items And Add Additional Janitor Slot
Nanako replied to a topic in Completed Projects
how so? I'd argue janitor is only a major balance thing in gang warfare mode, which this server doesn't have. I know the janitor can clean cult runes, but so can anyone else with a spacecleaner bottle. Medical has at least five of them, engineering and security have one each too, and more can be ordered from cargo. -
Duplicate Custodial Closet Items And Add Additional Janitor Slot
Nanako replied to a topic in Completed Projects
Agreed. For various RP reasons these things are never as simple as they seem. You have to page the HoP and get him to come to his office, cuz he's never there. Then convince him that you're trustworthy for the role, and that whatever you currently do isn't more important, then hand over your ID for the necessary processing. And even then, without the extra items, you're seriously crippled as a pseudojanitor. The cart and lightreplacer are really critical. Agreed. There's no logical reason for something like this to be limited, personally i think we should have four janitor slots. but two would at least be a step in the right direction. -
I'm really surprised to see you writing an application. With all the writing and extracurricular stuff you do, and all the excellent directing of research, i guess i kind of figured you were already superwhitelisted for everything. I remember you teaching me when i was trrying out science, you've been here way longer than i have. I also remember you running around and singlehandedly saving everyone on the station from everything, a couple of days ago Anything else (including abstaining) would feel wrong and disrespectful, +1 from me godspeed ye, kitty

[Accepted] Outboarduniform Head Whitelist
Nanako replied to Outboarduniform's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
My strongest memory of juan siganto, repeatedly, is him going to cryo mid round. Everyone's done it sometimes, but i feel in your case its abnormally high, to the degree that it sticks in my mind as a defining character trait. Juan Siganto loves his cryosleep. It's happened a lot before now, but a round yesterday particularly irked me, when the captain contacted you, mentioned they'd noticed your application, and offered to promote you to interim head of security. I was in security that shift, the whole department took a vote on it, and you accepted the position. You had a lot of chances to turn it down, and nobody would have though t less of you for doing so, but you accepted it. Then a short time later, 10-15 minutes it felt like, you went to cryo suddenly and without warning, after not really doing much of anything, in the middle of a crisis. That round was a mess, we really needed a leader, 12 people in the brig at one point, and total chaos everywhere Real life happens to everyone, but yours seems to have more sudden demands on it. And when you're an officer or a warden whose function can be taken over, its no big deal to drop out. but as a head of staff you have a certain level of responsibility to other players, and a certain level of investment in seeing it through It pains me, and i'm deeply sorry, but -1 from me
