Fortport Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 (edited) I love SS13's ambiance. All the little audio cues and iconic mood-setters. But you know what I don't love? The bassy rumble of the station. This rumble is so loud it gives me headaches, and is just generally hard to tolerate. I miss having ambiance, but this one thing makes me avoid it 100%. Can we remove THIS SPECIFIC PART(the wind, vibrating, whatever the BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR is) from the ambiance? Can we toggle it? I don't want to hear rumbling anymore. Fortport Posted May 25, 2019 Author Posted May 25, 2019 Just to clarify, I'm referring to the ambient sound that is usually the first sound you hear that is persistent through all other noises.
Carver Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 (edited) It's one of the only ambient sounds I did like when I had them on. I turned off ambience mostly for the awful music (elevator, jukebox, the dorf fort mining music). Edited May 26, 2019 by Carver Addendum: The dorf fort music isn't actually awful but I don't want to listen to it.
Fortport Posted May 26, 2019 Author Posted May 26, 2019 I'm just saying that a toggle would be nice. Don't HAVE to remove it. Some people love it, some people don't.
Karolis2011 Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Adding more granular control over things would make things more complex. Look at most proper games, do they have individual sound mute buttons? No. Here we do have a lot of options for sound muting and disabling, even so that it's very complex to navigate trough.
Goret Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Or use the stop-all-sounds verb. It will stop the constant ambient.

Screemers Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 I like that vibrating sound, but it don't make much sense in the context of a station. That sound is the equivalent of the propulsion system reverberating into the station structure (Like on ships) and in our case could be changed for something more appropriate. Like someone said, adding a toggle specifically for it can be too much trouble for what it is, but if ever you have an alternative sound proposition to submit, I'll be open to vote for it if it's interesting.

So far I found that toggling the hear/silence ambiance option works for doing that, too. What a wonderful compliment.
TheOrleans Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 I like that sound Sometimes when you have a trauma and you are deaf and you stop hearing it, it makes you feel you are really deaf.

It hurts my head 100% of the time. I never want to hear it. Not that it's ear rape or something, but it genuinely affects me. There are ways to get ambiance without the rumble, but they're not really ideal(turn it off and on again until you don't hear it anymore).

Generally the more of these said games have, the better the game is as well.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 And quite a few games i need to mute the ambience. Like ss13.

Skyrim comes to mind, as well as some other games that let you turn down the volume of ambiance or other miscellaneous sounds, like footsteps.
