Alberyk's Tajara Lore Writer Application

There is a very big difference in being in a criminal organization that kills people, and one that does not. Someone with a history of pickpocketing charges and a history of 'Club Bouncer' or 'Casino Security' is very different from a former mobster that went out on hits for people. On top of that, the nonlethal emphasis was directly tied to the station. I saw crevans (and I myself) beat people up and leave them outside medbay, or not going full lethal. It was a cultural reason to IC'ly follow the rules of escalation.

I don't want to dwell on this because the more I do the more it probably becomes self-serving. I won't talk about Crevus here anymore.

What are these conservative traditions and history? The rule by the ancient empires and racist nobility who used eugenics to build up distinct races to serve them. But why did Tajara rebel against this system only for it to go back to being the 'normal' in modern tajara?

Skrell in their history used to be super into AI, and then when Glorsh happened they rejected that old order, with their government, culture, and even religion going through very big changes. They rejected their old system and consistently keep to a whole new way of doing things because they do not want things to go back to how they were. A skrell conservative now is very different from a skrell conservative before glorsh.

Unathi are huge on tradition and honor and martial might and their entire outlook revolves around the 'why'. They have an entirely distinct view on relationships, with your class, sex, and where you are in the hierarchy of your clan have huge impact on what you can do and what you're expected to do. I have players talk to me all the time about how they or their unathi's unathi friend is going off to get into an arranged marriage, or how they are worried about their parents rejecting their new career goals.

Tajara have not had this because they are just....Conservative. The legacy of Tajara conservatism comes from an OOC reaction by the developer of the time to stuff tajara players were doing.

Again, the differences are superficial. What are the differences between a vanilla DPRA Tajara and a vanilla PRA character? Both should follow the suns, both think the caste system is bad, both have authoritarian governments.... I guess in the DPRA you can own a small business, but what, to you, are the current bonds that are built to hold tajara of these factions together? Why do I hate a PRA Tajara but bond with a DPRA Tajara?

I will have to say that as of late Unathi are getting more and more crooked when it comes to the "honor" thing. You can make up excuses for anything these days, and stuff that made sense before now is currently "well the priest they spoke to is fine with it so bluh" when it comes to breaking the norm. Body a sacred vessel? Aut'akh. Can't do stuff as a woman? "You have a man's soul inside you." Any other issue? Well you're in Beisel now so oh well guesss we'll slap a guwan tag on you or something.

All of your complaints concerning tajara seem to be personal qualms that I have seen echoed exactly zero other places. I'm not really going to stick around to continue this and see myself out, because this is purely about Alb's impending position and not the fine details of tajaran lore or something that you could literally bring up to him after he or someone else takes up the position, when someone can actually take an objective look at your stance on the lore and act on it.

The history of how things came to be will be explained in details in my history expansion. And I am fairly sure that you can find why they rebelled in the wiki, Even if so, not everyone rebelled and they only won due to human support and the Hadii changing sides.

Both of their beliefs are different, it is clearly explained in the wiki. And I don't see how the dpra is authoritarian, they have a democracy that is not controlled by a political dynasty, people chose the president, sure they might have some problems, but as I said, things take time, nothing is perfect and there will be people that will get in the way to push their own agendas. And like the wiki says, being from the dpra allows you to be more than the pra citizen model. It would be really impossible/nonsensical to be a zhan nomad from the pra, because your culture is not compatible with the mission of the pra. And like I said, it is my mission to make them more different, because I do believe that this can be done.

Not that I have much to put in, but one of my friends, new to the server and a person who has historically enjoyed SS13 tajara from many servers could not bring themselves to play tajara because they were too Russian, and thats about it. Thematically they are one trick ponies that have developed a singular concept well, at the expense of all others.

What I want to know is @Alberyk what do you intend to talk about thats not the civil war. Its boring, its done to death, its such a big narrative crux that the idea of tajara without it is COMPLETELY uncharted waters that I really have no idea how to move forward on as everything I know about Tajara is either War or Russian stuff. Every lore development is about the war. The robots for the war. The guns for the war.The cities in the war. The few things that arent are just borrow from Russian history.

Religion is probably the only exception to this, but its effects on their society have not been explored in any visceral way beyond saying it exists on the wiki.

Can't tell you without spoilers, sorry, but I have plans for the future.

Hmm okay you early have plans. Ive put my concerns here and i hope it has at least a little bit of a way to inform your plans. I think i am satisfied that you now understand the issues the species has currently.

Alberyk gets more complaints from me than you did. There's nobody better to trust for the position than him because he knows the issues the species has and is working to at least make them palatable, (except coalf but that's a pipe dream, come back coalf i love you.) It just takes a lot of time since he's trying to make them gradual changes instead of retroactive.

Rest easy in knowing that Alberyk does what he can to do what's right for the species, and not what fits an agenda. He actually likes the species and enjoys writing for them, which is something I feel is at the upmost importance for somebody in the position he's writing for.

Let me just slide in between all this mewling. I only have one concern. I have seen many staff in my tenure stretch themselves too thing and burn out hardcore. You're a wonderful anomaly that has kept up a pace i can only dream of. I hope you do not overwork yourself and grow to hate this job.

This is.... honestly something I couldn't have said better. I came from a community where I saw some of the best staff just crash and burn after bogging down with all their tasks.

And you are one of the greatest things we have in this community. There is no doubt in my mind that you wouldn't be able to be fantastic at this. I just don't want to see you burn the candle at both ends.

I'm sure you've thought about this before applying. Just remember you have support. I support this application entirely.

I have been working with lore as a deputy for around one year or so. I can manage my positions without much problem. If I am accepted, I want to bring two lore deputies to help me.

Whew, I took one nap and man was there a lot of discussion to catch up on upon waking up. A lot of good talk, I'm glad everyone got to air their concerns and have their issues addressed in some fashion. Probably the first time I've seen this much discussion on a lore dev app in my short tenure. Giving up Taj lore has been a difficult transition for me as its former developer, but I have full faith and confidence in Alberyk to do a superior job to myself as a writer, and am happy to pass on the torch to the next generation.

Application Accepted!
