Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Have you encountered or played the unathi ERT and can you tell me how theyve been played? Its important to see if we are right to keep the role unwhitelisted. It was my argument that an honorable knight is ubiquitous enough in pop culture that unwhitelisted people will "get it" and it can even draw interest into the species. How kataphracts have been played as honorable knights vs the stereotype of unathi on other servers as bloodthirsty brutes is the big worry for me. Quote
MattAtlas Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Its a fucking blast. Kataphracts may not always be as effective as other ERTs but holy shit are they fun. Mostly everyone respects the honor code and acts fine as I've seen. Quote
stevIII Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Personally from my one interaction with Katapharcts, I fucking loved em. I like the concept of a knight ERT, and feel it should stay unwhitelisted. Quote
StationCrab Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 The Kataphracts I encountered so far seem to have played the role well enough. I agree with your assessment that the archetype is well enough understood that it does not require a white list like maybe playing the species full time might. I am sure failures to RP them properly can be handled on a case by case basis, there is no need for a whitelist for this limited role. Quote
Doxxmedearly Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Pretty much what's been said so far. It's great to hear a kataphract respond to your beacon. Hope I get the chance to play one. Haven't seen any whitelist issues and it's great that ERT isn't just a win button with all these options we have. Really awesome. Quote
maniacalFowl Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Like whats been said before, the Kataphracts showed up and were really cool about hunting down the scum of the station. Coming from one of the servers where Unathi were said bloodthirsty monster its really refreshing to see the new take on them and everyone accepting the concept so easily. The only problem I've seen with them was one round while hunting down an antag, they confronted a group of people (the antag hiding amongst them) and opened fire on them. Nearly everyone around them turned on the Kataphracts and they ended up getting turned into pin cushions. Besides the bit of miscommunication and bad choices I love them as an alternative to the "That was Easy" ERT. Quote
Crozarius Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 From my perspective I feel that they're a bit weak, as both the times that they've appeared they all died within 5 minutes of arriving; once to a malf AI's turrets and once to hivebots. Now I'm not certain if this is because of people being unfamiliar with their capabilities or if they're mechanically underpowered. I did see that Geeves did buff them though! RP-wise they all seem to do a good job so far! Quote
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Fantastic. Thank you all who replied. Very gratifying! I did hear already that they tend to get obliterated in certain situations so we can see about how to go about handling that. I think a medic amongst them would help? Quote
BoryaTheSlayer Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 They already have a medic and I usually take that role when possible. Although having some more chems at their disposition at the base could help a bit. Nothing too powergame-y though. I love kataphracts and when they get wrecked I don't think it's because of how underpowered they are. That time when we rushed the AI core we just wanted to go full honour and charge the AI. It was funny and we actually helped a tiny bit as far as I know. That being said I don't mind seeing more cool new stuff for them, that's always welcome Quote
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 (edited) Excuse me i meant engineer. The comments ive heard on discord are how they melt against ai based enemies more often than not. ..... then again Maybe this could be fine..... Since cold logic robots are a natural counter to romantic honorable knights.......... Edited December 1, 2019 by Marlon Phoenix Quote
VUX Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 (edited) The one and only time I've seen a kataphract ERT they turned into an impromptu lynch mob and tried to hang half the station for treason after holding a mock trial. I greatly dislike them. They also engaged in some tired crusader memes. I dunno what we expected to happen when we added medieval space knights as an ERT option. Edited December 3, 2019 by VUX Quote
