Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Necropolis is based from South Africa which has a really cringe history with race relations and then like on top of this one of their uniforms shares a lot in common with the most cringe movement ever: Like the only difference is the tie. At first I just assumed they were boyscout uniforms but then I noticed it even has THE ARMBAND LOL. I bet whoever sprited this is a huge fan of Rhodesia. Please change it.
AmoryBlaine Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Your problem is with the sandy khaki, and not the full black?
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) edit: post redundent due to below one but i just forgot to edit it into this one Edited December 19, 2019 by Marlon Phoenix
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) like on one hand... yeah.... but like "evil black space fascist uniform" is pretty mundane. It's been co-opted to just stand in for an "evil space fascist" which I guess is on brand for necropolis sec. To make it after the one that the SS stopped using because it was too tacky is way too on-brand of that specific cringe movement Edited December 19, 2019 by Marlon Phoenix
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Quote Brown·shirt /ˈbrounSHərt/ nounHISTORICAL plural noun: Brownshirts a member of an early Nazi militia founded by Hitler in Munich in 1921, with brown uniforms resembling that of Mussolini's Blackshirts. They aided Hitler's rise to power, but were eclipsed by the SS after the “night of the long knives” in June 1934. the failson movement even
furrycactus Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Yeah, I always thought something felt weird about it, but it didn't click until now. We should have as little Nazi resembling stuff on the server as is absolutely possible.
AmoryBlaine Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) I'm going to sidestep your attempts to force me to change this by trying to imply I'm a nazi. My intended design was this. The sandy khaki is sand. The dark cyan-blue is the ocean. The bleached yellow is the sun. It is not my fucking fault we have in our lore a company who's whole shtick is being evil and associated with space eugenics religious zealots with the colours red and black. Lady Fowl Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Lets make sure to keep this productive and on topic, no insults or such need tossed around.
Doc Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I don't even care about this issue in any real way, but dear god please use actual words that actual human beings understand. Explain what you actually take issue with rather than continuously throwing out the latest buzzword you've attached yourself to and pretending it makes your argument for you. If among all of these posts your only actual complaint is "it kind of resembles a Nazi uniform," then I don't really have anything to counter that with beyond the fact that this uniform was originally added explicitly BECAUSE we were having complaints about Necropolis' aesthetic, over half a year ago, with no notable pushback until now. This particular argument doesn't impress me coming out of the blue like this.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 If you wear a satchel then the way the strap of the satchel goes over the shirt makes it literally even have the same strap as in the SS uniform. The ONLY difference from this sprite while wearing a satchel and the SS uniform is the inclusion of the tie. I never implied you were a Nazi, I said you accidentally sprited a uniform of the Nazis. Your intended design goal looks okay but since the front of the torso is covered by armor I suggest that the base sprite be changed in some way to keep the same khaki style. Give it one of those asymmetrical V button-up things or make it more like a jumpsuit or something.
AmoryBlaine Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I expressly wanted the uniform to reflect South Africa over Soviet Russia/Dominia. I'm entirely against removing this uniform. If you want to remove something, remove the aforementioned links to Dominia so I can make cyan and yellow Necropolis' colours. I don't even know why Necropolis is the name, given they're coming out of South Africa and the Soviet Union. Make it something new, something more palatable. And no, I do not want to remove the all-black uniform, either. If there was gonna be company that had an all-black uniform, it'd be the weapon manufacturers.

If you do not have a productive counter to this suggestion please do not attack me for the language that I use. This looks very different from the sprite and the SS uniform
Kintsugi Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I think you need to get yourself squared away if the 32x32 khaki sprite is making you think "The nazis are afoot on Aurorastation". This sprite is extremely innocuous and you immediately jumped out with "I bet whoever made it was a nazi and a rhodesia supporter". The fact of the matter is that you're being ridiculous - please take a moment and evaluate what is actually going on here.

How can you literally look at the sprite and the SS uniform, and see how it is similar in every single way sans a single red tie, attached to a country with a really cringe history of white supremacy that this megacorporation is based from, and go "There's totally nothing here that people might interpret as different from how I interpret it" If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and smells like a duck, you can't smugly chide people who interpret it as a duck....

Look. Khaki. Some are even red too. Look. Another khaki and red uniform from the Soviet Union. Isn't Necropolis from the Soviet Union, too? Huh... That's interesting..... Makes me think quite a lot. Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Can you give me an image of what you modeled them after then?

The SS are predominantly known for their black and silver-trimmed uniforms, not their pre-war brown ones. You may be thinking of the SA. I don't really see a nazi coloration here. Black and red, brown and red. People equated the brown uniform more with Afghanistan Soviets than with nazis.

Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 please spoiler your images if you post more than one for forum etiquette I literally listed every single point of comparison. None of those images share more than the same neighborhood of shade of khaki as the base sprite. Whereas there are all sorts of comparisons between the necro uniform and the cringe uniform.
Aticius Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 This seems like a really, really, big stretch. FWIW, I do think the blue/yellow necropolis colors look good.
