BurgerBB Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Random viruses occur every other round when they're now extremely lethal, even at its most basic, due to malpractice and how body temperature/organ failure works. In most cases medical does not know what they are doing and at worst cases you will literally be stuck all round with a random virus that punished you because you won the virus lottery. Like lets just break random viruses down. - You get a random virus based on an event regardless of how sanitary you are. - Random viruses can be given to players who don't know the game and can easily spread it around. - Viruses occur regardless if there is someone capable of producing a cure. - Most of medical doesn't know how how to cure or treat a virus, and just usually takes a blood sample and tells you to wait inside medical. - A random virus takes longer to cure than getting shot in the chest with a .50 Anti-Tank Rifle. - It is literally easier and faster to kill someone, and then clone them, than to cure them of a virus. Antags don't use viruses in their gimmicks because it's hard to escalate it properly, and the whole virus framework is shitcode and hasn't been touched in centuries. No one will miss viruses being removed but since people don't like removing broken features, someone should rework how you get viruses.
GreenBoi Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Viruses can only spawn if there's a biochemist on, but I don't think we need viruses or virology. Virology is ONLY used for viruses and nothing else, no one enjoys it and it's just a nuisance.

I remember this because I coded it this way as a way to nerf viruses ruining rounds. The level 5 exception was added to appease the naysayers who thought malpractice was good RP.
AmoryBlaine Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Minor colds that don't cause massive amounts of mucus when. Actually scary level 7s when.
Carver Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Glad to see brainmed returned us to the dark age of random events. +1
Screemers Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 I like to have virus random event, but virology lab should be accessible to more people in medical. Splicing virus and making custom ones are pretty much useless and that part could pretty much be scrapped to keep the virology lab over the lobby dedicated to cured synthesis. I don't know for others, but I like to have random event that I have to adress and I can't just ignore without consequence. The lack of competency should not be a reason to eliminate a system and we should instead place better support for it to be understood and used (Giving access to more people and placing a book with explanation somewhere for example) Last time we had a virus, me and the HoS were injected with Radium and we passed close to die, it just add to the game even if it can sometimes be annoying.
Peppermint Posted December 25, 2019 Posted December 25, 2019 I like viruses being a random event. If anything, I'd like them to be more lethal as they're so ridiculously easy to cure. The main problem right now is that delta is lethal in higher doses as it causes cardiac arrest (dear god why!?). I'd like a virgoloy rework as it's really darn dull, as well as an increase of access to medical doctors/surgeons too. Aside from that, I think it's okay.

I was the nurse, Jaquelyn, who was with you guys, what ACTUALLY happened was that apparently on brainmed Deltamivir gives you a fucking heart attack if you have a little too much. So that was mostly my fault. No radium was involved.

I was just laughing while playing about how shitty that part turned out. (I kind of like random chaos in this game)
