Kaizr's Exponentially Dumber Command Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Kaizr

Character names: Sahi Khazka, Valeria Stroh, Adriana Volvalaad, Rocket, IAC-Darwin (What I’ve been playing the most recently)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Somewhere around 8 months.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: For the longest time I have aspired to be a head of staff on a HRP server. This is because I believe it provides a unique experience that cannot be found in other servers where it is time locked instead of whitelist locked.

Why did you come to Aurora?: After a few months long hiatus from Baystation and a TG off-shoot that is no longer with us, I found Aurora and thought it to be a place that I wanted to hang around. Now I’m helplessly addicted to it!

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: I got a note for forgetting to ask for the traitor role to be removed and joking about just buying a hypospray and vibing in the ahelp.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay, by definition, is to act out and perform the part of someone you aren’t. And, I hold true to that definition. Roleplaying allows someone to take a step into an alternative reality or situation, separating themselves from themself and react as someone else would. This someone else being a unique character of their own creation. Everything about the character is unique to that character, and only the person who created them can truly fill in the role of that character. Roleplay should be about having fun and engaging in unique and otherwise unusual situations; a mostly stress-free way to essentially live in another world through the eyes of someone they are not.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

From an OOC standpoint, someone who is a head of staff is an example of a trustworthy and experienced player that people can seek out for help when it comes to a slew of issues whether it be game mechanics or even for help joining the command team. While on the contrary, ingame, a head of staff is a leadership position. They are tasked with ensuring their own department runs smoothly alongside the station, and that crew needs are accommodated to ensure that the shift goes smoothly. And, lastly, if the need arises a head of staff is the final authority on many disciplinary decisions should the situation demand.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

As I stated above, a command whitelisted player is someone other players, new or old, can look to for guidance and assistance. Whether it be a new player who needs a helping hand learning the game, or a long time player simply looking for help. Henceforth, a whitelisted player should do their best to uphold these values of generosity and willingness to help when they can and to a reasonable degree.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

To put it simply, greatly. For Mahara, being a Tajara, and more specifically one in a command position within Nanotrasen; the invasion was a little more than jarring. Now, living in the shadow of the conflict, she is being forced to take on the situation head on despite being so close to being left in the hands of an insane Solarian admiral. Whether it will go well dealing with the growing tensions back home and Biesel in a hard position, is up for debates.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

Head of Security, Chief Medical Officer

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.

Mahara Stokov, Female Njarir Tajara - Chief Medical Officer

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

Depending on the time and day, it varies from 8-9 on a 1-10 scale.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

Yes.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

I’ve read them each a few times, especially those that I plan to play.

I've played with multiple of Kaizr's characters, they were all executed superbly and very enjoyable to interact with. Kaizr themselves are also a very fun person to be around and I personally have never seen any issues. I think they would make a great command player, and this application gets a solid +1 from me!

Hi, I had the pleasure of interacting with Adriana Volvalaad on one of my Security Officers and Darwin with my latest G2 IPC.

All of the character are diverse and enjoyable to interact with and the player strikes me as a solid roleplayer with a good knowledge of the server lore.
I'd be quite interested in seeing what they can bring to the rest of the crew (and community) with a Command-level character.
The application looks good. It's a +1, I'd like to see you in action during your trial phase.

I'm just going to preface this by saying that I've had good interactions with at least one of Kaizr's characters -- Adriana -- but that I'm concerned how some of their recent gameplay habits might factor into a command position. I have two major complaints to level here, although unfortunately I didn't have the forethought to actually document the more egregious one.

Your IPC paramedic backchats and snipes at security in the middle of ongoing tense IC events, which honestly struck me as a little odd. I was informed it didn't actually break any rules, but it still raises a question for me whether that's an accurate depiction of the paramedic character you want to play or whether it's OOC thoughts on the scenario shining through. I'll leave my deeper thoughts on the character to one side and focus mainly on that issue, because it left a negative impression as a whole that only compounds my general view.

The second issue is the one I wish I'd documented more. I'm not gonna break it down into excruciating detail, but I know that on a burglar round yesterday where you were effectively cornered by security you dipped into LOOC to explain that you didn't have much time left/had to go soon (I forget the exact wording) in the middle of being told to surrender/disarm et cetera, then used the break in IC interaction to abruptly jaunt through into an adjacent room and start going gamer mode with every bit of weaponry you had. I know for a fact you stuck around until the end of the round, too, because you never dropped off the Who list and you called the crew transfer complete with some OOC chatter as the shuttle docked, so the question that was always in the back of my mind is why exactly we had the LOOC break at all, and whether it was for any purpose other than to momentarily hit a pause button so you could take up the round again on your own terms to collect frags.

I hope you can understand why I have some concerns here about how the approach to gameplay you're conveying to me in recent rounds might not translate to command play that's enjoyable for other people one way or another, considering that by and large I view those roles as being responsible for the enjoyment of the station/playerbase as a whole, not just the individual's own experience.

I can understand your point of view on this topic, I oftentimes try to keep Darwin at least in visual contact with both parties during tense situations just for a matter of ensuring that I know who's injured and who isn't. Though I do recall bringing a few instances of taking jabs at security for a myriad of reasons, whether it be treating prisoners poorly, or watching them handle a situation extremely poorly from an analytical and statistical standpoint. But, I can see where you are coming from on this. However, I have to ask that you elaborate on the issues as I can't fix an issue I'm unaware of. Or, pen a player/character complaint so that we can more thoroughly discuss the topics in a suitable environment.

This was by far one of my worst antag plays and I have no issue stating that, I fucked up, badly. I will keep the explanation brief to explain my side of the story, and you may take it however you please. My partner had to leave abruptly at the beginning of the round, severely limiting my options as an antag as we had already devoted to a hostile gimmick and I was geared for that specific gimmick. Alongside this, I missread my own schedule and didn't realize I had to leave at around so soon but I felt it would be rude to start something with security and then so suddenly end it. The chatter in LOOC, while I understand how it can be viewed as an attempt to powergame and garner a more favorable situation, was not my intention. I wholeheartedly understand the position you are coming from on this topic and I accept that it was a fault on my part, but I can assure you I have no interest in wanton violence against other players nor powergaming and did my best to wait a period of time before stepping into the surgical theater. As for the last section of your comment, the reason I had to leave was for an Arma III event, so I opted to keep the game open and offer security my best ability to continue RP despite being divided between two things. Once I found a chance to finally step away from the afformentioned event I did go around to forward my apologies for the poor conduct to security members, alongside personally messaging those who I had killed so early in the round (Elenadurak Ismatovna & Allison Wilson) and apologize for what was no doubt horrendous antag play. However, if you feel this still needs to go punished, then I implore you once more to write up a player complaint so we can further discuss it. Alternatively, you can also DM me (Kaizr#1111 or Kaizr on the AuroraStation Discord ) on discord and I would be more than willing to work towards fixing the issues.

I entirely understand, and I hope that I can address any issues to ensure that I can provide a fun and engaging character and command presence for those on-station.

Hoi!
I think I have just enough familiarty with your regular characters to understand that you are a competent, well-meaning player who's always fun to see in a round. Generally this would be enough for me to give a +1, but I do have some similar concerns to that of @Omicega's first point.

I can get being critical of Security for their handling of things, especially when playing medical. Your character being an IPC First Responder is further reasoning - however, this is where I need to ask: is this is a legitimate character trait of Darwin's or truly an OOC bias? Security and Medical already have plenty of issues attempting to work together at times, and I am deeply concerned over the fact that you aim to play a CMO with this question still up in the air. I do not want to endorse someone that may or may not make Security players distrust us even slightly more.

On another, less important note, I also recall a specific incident regarding Darwin and my Psychiatrist character (Gentle Wind) that happened somewhat recently, I think. As usual, my character was talking at length with a patient in their office - a pretty sensitive interaction, also rather usual - with their office shades up. At the time, I believe they and Darwin were the only medical staff, but no immediate danger was present. Darwin promptly rushed up to the Psychiatry Ward, and kept knocking on the windows till it was opened up. Even before my character could get a word in about to complain, Darwin had promptly told them they were not as present on comms as they would've liked, then rushed off to do something else. This had disrupted an important, intense RP scene that both me and the other player were engaged in. This is, yet again, another situation where I struggle to understand whether or not it's just Darwin being the way they are, or you not understanding and respecting certain simple etiquettes of role-play and collaborative writing. You and other readers of this thread may think this is petty and unimportant, but when my character's job as a Psychiatrist relies on these key moments, I think a bit more consideration should be expected.
Especially as someone aiming to be Head of Staff, and CMO, no less.

That said, I am not opposed to seeing you continue into a trial phase! I think we all mess up sometimes, but that we can also improve a lot if we put our mind to it. I just hope you can understand that I am not critizing your play because I do not like you as a player - there is just a certain amount of sensitivity and maturity I expect from Command players that I maybe haven't seen enough from your characters.

Best of luck with the application! I'll be sure to vote this up if I see that you earnestly want to work on these issues.

The eccentric behavior of Darwin when it comes to security is a trait that I entirely keep to him and him only, as a humanitarian his primary goal is ensuring situations resolve peacefully with minimal damage for all parties involved. It has been something I've kept localized to him and him only. I have no intention to carry that kind of personality over to any other characters and never will, especially as a member of command. The CMOs job isn't to critique or prod the security team for their handling of situations, but to ensure effective communication between security and medical staff and retaining a healthy inter-departmental work relationship. And, of course, to run their own department.

A completely valid point to bring up! I do have to apologize for Darwin's intrusive actions at the time, however, the reason he was so adament about checking on Gentle Wind was due to a few factors. The primary one being the radio silence for just shy of an hour, at the time when he first called upon your psychiatrist they were showing up as in the psych office alone. I recall at least 2 more attempts to communicate with around 15 minutes spacing and yielding no results. So, before going to knock on the window, after checking sensors (When I play Darwin I always have sensors open on his PDA since it seems like something a synthetic first responder would probably do due to their ability to multitask) and only seeing the afformentioned psychiatrist in the office, he went to make sure everything was alright.

Nonetheless, thank you for bringing it up and I entirely understand your point of view on this situation, and I accept the blame for it! I just found it proper to explain Darwin's own reasoning for walking up to the psychiatrist's office, as it appeared they were entirely alone in their office. I'll do my best to use this feedback to refine certain aspects of Darwin's character and to improve as a roleplayer as a whole!

I meant to check in a couple days earlier about this, but kept having it slip my mind. Following Kaizr's reply here and a brief exchange on Discord I'm satisfied that a large part of my concerns, at least, was just down to miscommunication and misunderstanding rather than anything I'd actually want to stick against them.

With those aside I don't see any reason why they shouldn't get their hands on a trial. +1 and good luck!

i wanted to wait until i had a round w/kaizr before replying. they were good at giving orders and making sure the department was doing things, my only real critique would be to keep the dept more informed of whatever's going on with the station.

I tried my best to do that, but I can see the shortcomings. I was honestly just at a loss for what specifically I should disclose and what I shouldn't! I'm sure with time I'll find the balance between complete transparency and something more tame.

I'm pretty impressed with Mahara now that I've had more of a chance to interact with her. I'd like to get the chance to see you in a busier round, but in all honesty I don't play much medical, so it's not surprising that I haven't been able to. What I have seen, though, is a cool character who exerts her authority in a realistic and overall positive manner, and I've enjoyed my rounds with her.

You already had my support, but bumping into your character more directly only helps solidify it. I'd like to see her as a CMO going into the long term!

From my experience with your other chars I always found them fun and interesting. Mahara isn't an exception to this and given they only had so much interaction so far, I found it interesting.
I do believe there are points that can be improved upon such as the time Mahara kept trying to talk to the two armed burglars in security when they told her to leave, while not having any backup at the time (even if there were kinda hostages she tried to assure the safety of) and perhaps trying to keep in better contact with security when there was a raised alert and they were the only command character in the round.
Tho I firmly believe you'll improve with time and feedback so I got only a +1 to give.

Right, hopefully my browser isn't cursed this time. Gotta give Kaizr a plus one here, since they're a great roleplayer and a massively active member of the community. They've helped me out, both in game and out of it, to help people learn brainmed and develop guides for the forums. On top of that, their characters always feel real, and they seem to have a genuine desire to engage the other players on the server. One of the easiest +1's I can give.

Something I can appreciate about Kaizr's playing of Mahara is that their head is actually in the game. While I can pay credence to suspicions about someone like the hyper-active station-bouncing Darwin, it's clear enough that Kaizr knows how to fit into the role of CMO in a professional and pleasant manner. They're oriented about the happenings of the station (something that I've noticed lacks in some other non-consistent Command, which typically does a lot of damage for one's enjoyment of a round) and understand precisely how best to keep themself and the Medical department energetic and mobilized. Even still, there's great communication with other departments, which is always a plus. Kaizr is on with consistent frequency and makes an effort to be deeply involved in the crew (even my troublesome cadet); this is the type of command I want to be behind in dire rounds and canon events.

The big +1

Player of Ionia here. I have seen them play their CMO a lot now and think I can +1 this as well. What little mistakes they made they either played out ICly or excused them self via looc for it, sometimes both.

Communicative, Knowledgeable and friendly. Fits command.
