BYOND key: Kelnor

Discord Username: Kelnor#9781

Character names:

Hailey Wise

Kroner Sadar

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About three months. I'm not 100% sure.
Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?
One bwoink involving my initial character. Corrected it in the Ahelp and revised my character to jive better with the setting.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

Helping players develop their skills and their characters.

Medical on this server is special, it's a big part of why I'm here too. Helping new players adjust to this medical system with mentoring is one of my favorite things to do.

We're pretending to have a job on a spaceship, your boss in this setting has a huge impact on what direction player's take their character. This kind of blurs the line with the next question though so I'll put it there.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

Top priority in my opinion is the effect the whitelist has on player retention.

Medical on this server is special, it's a big part of why I'm here too. Helping new players adjust to this medical system with mentoring is one of my favorite things to do.

This was my first HRP server (and currently only) many CMO's, Captains and especially Consulars were instrumental in helping me adjust to the HRP environment and the lore.

Second: would be that Command has more influence in the canon and lore developments. I don't really intend to CMO during canon events (Finally a reason to Off-duty Hailey yay!!) but those events affect the non canon round's atmosphere and command at these times helps influence what characters will do during the events. This is a significant responsibility since on an HRP server these developments are the core of the server.

Third: Getting sh-stuff done, command is who drives a round, otherwise you just sit in The Bay and watch sensors.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

This is just from Hailey's point of view, Kroner is still just fascinated with all the advanced technology.
I know that Sol and Tau Ceti are in a tense situation. My character's home is Sol (The solar system) and she hates the state of the Alliance right now. She's pretty enamored with the Biesel constitution and it's government and hopes one day the Solarian Alliance will adopt a similar style of governing and stop being so grabby.

This might be an outdated question so I'll address the Dreary Future's arc here. Hailey feels the ship is getting a bit thought police-y due to the SCCIA's lack of transparency. Whether true or not there's an atmosphere of keep your mouth shut or get borged. Obviously it's not true but this is the IC feel. Hailey wants this to see a bit deeper into what's going on behind the scenes to know if she's on the right side.

She also wants to have her dissenting opinions carry a bit more weight and better understand if she even should be dissenting, she hasn't been on the Horizon long and for all she knows the SCCIA might be right. She won't know until she's given a chance to piece the veil of secrecy more.

Even if they're right she has strong moral opinions on causing a death for the purposes of borging someone and she wants her voice to carry more weight on that matter especially.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

CMO. This might change later with Kroner and hell Zane said he'd eat his TCFL Jacket if Hailey ever became Captain so who knows?

Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

For CMO yes, I will review the other pages should I decide to pursue other roles.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Hailey Wise (CMO)

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

Please fire me if I do something stupid.... Like ruin people's fun stupid, I still intend  might accidentally be stupid in entertaining ways.

Have you linked your byond account to the forums? :

Yes

Extra notes:

Can't think of anything

Outside of forgetting their Ckey and discord nerd

I do have to say Hailey has been a good RP partner on ship, done very well- Knows their limits in knowledge and works around them. I think the only note I'd have for anyone going for HoD (Head of Departments - Because HoS is Security, you dork) is that the they are not 'required' to be an expert- Don't shoehorn extra skills on just because "it's what people except a ___ to do-" Because their position is a leadership one- don't have to know everything, but should be able to direct.

Be Hailey and have fun leading medical through hell and back ❤️ +1

I don't have any doubt you'd be able to RP as a CMO and I don't think your character isn't suitable for the role but on the odd occasion I've seen your patients die when they were able to be saved because you don't know the right combination of medicines, or you inject the wrong ones. This happens to ALL Medical players and it's not something to point and laugh at but, I'm not sure if taking on the role of CMO would be right just yet for you until you've learnt how to heal every species we have.

Hailey Wise is a good CMO. Interacts well, and trains Interns more than just pushing them aside. They know the chem mixes, how to prepare medical, and can of course command their team. Ain't got much to say except pretty solid and any slack they show right now (which from what I seen is somewhat low) can of course be corrected from learning more as a CMO. Always volunteers or is picked for Interim lately which boosts their commitment so yeah.

Trial begins today and will end on the 18th.

Try to gather feedback on your command play. I suggest playing solely command during this period, especially on high-population rounds.
Good luck!

It would be a crime for me to not swing by Kelnor's app, so here's my little piece!

Kelnor's a pretty damn good Medical player from my point of view, often likes to interact with crew, builds great relationships not only with people within her department also outside of it, myself included! Not to mention the fact that Kelnor ICly and OOCly is great at ruthlessly bullying teaching new players to Medical! Kelnor would make a great addition to the command team, and Hailey, even more so!

Best of luck, Kelnor!

Kelnor's medical knowledge is pretty good and where you would want it to be for someone who wants to roleplay as a CMO and in the instances when they didn't know something they either looked it up or asked someone who might know. They don't micromanage nor play a super doctor and they seem to have a good grasp on the general lore of the server. Additionally they're friendly both IC and OOC and would probably show people who are newer to the server a great time. I don't see any issues with giving them a command whitelist and exposing them to the true horrors of Aurora.

Kelnor knows medical, that is a fact. They know medical, and they know how to do it well. My only issue is that they're a tad lethargic when it comes to providing medical attention, they have the knowledge and could do anything anyone else could in medical, all they're lacking now is the skill to put that knowledge into action. But outside of that tiny issue, they would make a very good CMO, and with enough time and refinement I can see them becoming an excellent addition to medical command staff. +1

Played a burglar (Detective chasing The Skinner) round as my skrell XO, with Hailey Wise as CMO. They did alright. Kept control of the medbay, seemed capable, involved themselves in command matters. No red flags or anything.

Edit after a few days: Played many more rounds with their CMO. No red flags still. Okay stuff.

I agree I need to get faster, the knowledge is there but takes too long to get to my fingers. Practice Practice Practice. And thanks gladiator, the axe murderer gave me a ton of that.

I think you're still very new to the server and mechanics.

Talking about medical alone, I haven't seen you have a good grasp on gameplay itself, and procedures. One thing that stood out to me was that you did not know proper procedures for Vaurca, and literally did not know what a shell IPC was. For playing a physician, not knowing everything is acceptable. But for a CMO, you should at least have a basic idea on what the species of the server are, the lore of our setting (which is asked in this application), and how xeno health works.

RP-wise, I have seen okay roleplay overall, but you still again need to learn a bit more of the lore and setting from what I have interacted with you.

You mention promoting your character to captain someday, I haven't seen other characters in engineering, security, operations or service, just your medical character. You need experience on all those departments.

Anyways, concluding, I think you're new and still have to learn the hang of department gameplay and lore before you attempt a command WL.

Kelnor always plays during my timeslot, therefore I see them a lot, and they are always there.

Excellent Roleplay, does non necessary things (good) and doesn't do annoying things. Will keep you alive and knows tricks to circumvent you dying super hard.

Sadar is also a fun char

all around a well acted well roleplayed person, so they can definitely do CMO.

I hate to say this- you really don't. You need a background for your Captain in some field, relevance to the ship/station is best- But a Captain is not a 'Hey, fill these roles out as needed' knowing generally what they do as a facts thing is a much as you really need. Don't need the experience playing them, early aurora days I never bothered with a lot of roles and just made an interesting character people liked or hated.

Thats just the point on Captain-

Hailey does need more work in terms of knowledge base for /how/ to treat things, and how things work- When it comes to the Vaurca and Dex- that was quickly corrected. Hailey and Kelnor by extension know alot about medical and how it works, still finishing some stuff up.

As a hardcore Medical player- Hailey needs to be more hands-on- Keeping staff in their lane, she or any CMO (Any command honestly) should not allow those under them to step on each other's toes- Chefs should not be Gardeners if gardeners are present. Bartenders should not be chefs if Chefs are present. Hanger Techs are not miners, Physicians are not FR's nor are they surgeons and vise versa. Command is about driving story, but it also upholds the HRP and making sure people are able to do the role they picked. Is some shitty Doctor breaking into Pharma and making drugs when there is a Pharma there? Demote 'em and send 'em out. Some Surgeon in GTR butting their way into patients with Physicians around? Get 'em to stop, they keep going, demote, send out.

It fits into Hailey's character, but Hailey feels too lax with medical and it's operations. Medical is your baby, don't let people mess up your baby.

I'd argue I'm a pretty big judge on CMO's- I like my quality. Kelnor can take my +1

agree w/flpfs. i think this person can play cmo, just not now. i would say you need more time in the oven, so to speak. Hailey is not the kind of character I could see as a CMO, as well. she is too casual and kind of buddy-buddy with other characters, and doesn't really feel like anyone's boss. it kind of feels like she's a high schooler meeting her friends with some other characters, rather than a boss of the dept. i can see that you have a lot of your friends here in the comments supporting you, and that's great and i'm glad they're excited, however medical can feel a little bleh if you're not part of Hailey's friend group. I think you need to play medical as a doctor a bit longer and work on making Hailey feel more like command instead of just another doctor w/the premium hypo. i would not want to see you playing captain because i do not think your grasp of the setting is solid enough.

I played a couple rounds with you today as a chief engineer (yesterday evening, more like) and noticed a few general oddities and issues with communication/confusion about procedure. To a degree I felt it could be chalked up to unfamiliarity with command play alone, but it felt a tad like an unfamiliarity with how things work in a broader sense. Not to say there was nothing good - I appreciated you putting a foot down, so to speak, during the telescience incident - but as an instance of one of the general oddities I was referring to before, the promotion of Donitz from intern to surgeon, with a lack of records no less, struck me as odd given the reasoning you provided to the rest of command at the time, which was simply so that he could perform a facial reconstruction surgery. I am sure you have a coherent line of reasoning behind that, but mentioning it is simply so I can provide something solid for my next paragraph, which contains what I actually want to say.

In sum, I think the best metaphor is it feels to me from playing with you like you've got your fingers around command play but it's not firmly grasped yet. I don't really think that that warrants any detraction in itself, but I think you should keep it in mind before you consider making a Captain should you be accepted. I don't particularly mind playing alongside your chief medical officer, but in the current state of things I don't think I'd particularly appreciate playing under you if you were a Captain.
Ultimately, I'm not totally sure if this is something that just requires more experience as command or if it's an issue of just needing more familiarization with the server, but whether or not it is is a judgement for the guys who maintain the whitelists, not me.

While they are inexperienced, we had a good discussion about command both IC and in LOOC, about what makes a good Head and things to be careful about. They seemed to listen to what others have to say, and are excited to learn. For being new to command, they have the idea when it comes to the departmental side of things. I can't speak much to their Command level communications.

I have to admit the Donitz promotion was a mistake. I had a convo with the XO about it, I thought he was ready but he wasn't. The HoS of that round can speak to that but we've hopefully fixed that. I had no intent of playing Captain for about a year, and my experience so far since making the whitelist app has only reinforced that further.

Sorry, I confused two different rounds. The HoS situation was the next round.

I'm not able to properly judge this player's skill in Medical or Command thus far, being in Ops most the time, I hardly see them less its for a social conversation as our two characters are friends.

I can judge their RP and can say for sure that when Medical is staffed, this player stands as a lead among them most the time.

Kelnor is extremely interactive in RP from my perspective and I enjoy every chance I get to talk to Hailey Wise.

I would add a +1 but considering my lack of experience with their command experience I would say do a +1/2 for me. : ) love you Kelnor : )

Trial Passed. Good job!

My only feedback is that you have a good grasp, but you just need to play command more. You'll get better with time, but I've seen nothing but forward progression. Keep it up!
