SomeoneOutTher3
Maybe this would be better off in Guides & Tutorials, but whatever. This is a gimmick I managed to pull off two times before (Though, I only tried it two times total) with what I consider to be remarkable success, so I have finally decided to share it with you guys. The idea behind the gimmick is that the mercenaries are supposed to be a legitimate Asset Protection Team sent by Nanotrasen to weed out any "Subversive Elements" among their employees, with full backing of Central Command (This can be played with, however), in preparation for a Syndicate attack on the station or to foil potential operations. You and your buddies then round up people mentioned on the "Status Summary" printed at round start, or anyone with incriminating exploitable information, and then publicly execute them. This will make the crew hate you in a heartbeat. Once security inevitably fucks your team up, a real death team -consisting of the ghosts of the crew you executed- arrives on the station and fucks everything up. From that point on, things take their course. Feel free to add your own spin to the gimmick as you feel. Let's get started: Firstly, explain the gimmick to the admins, if any are online at the time. Ask the staff to spawn in an Asset Protection ID for your crew to scan their cards on (DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR CARD'S NAME AND RANK), and possibly the appropriate radio headset key. Look over the crew's exploitable information and compile a list of people to go after right away. Then, gear up and get ready to head for the station. Once you have done that, beg the staff to send a fax- or make a public station announcement- saying the following: ASSET PROTECTION TEAM ARRIVAL We have intercepted communications from a hostile terrorist organization discussing an attack headed for the Exodus, which will be aided by sleeper cells planted among the crew ((Fancy name for traitors, though there will be none)). We shall be sending an Asset Protection Team to your station in preparations for the strike, and to weed out any such sleeper agents among the crew. Permission has been granted by the government of Biesel for such operations. Crew are expected to fully comply with this operation.During this period of time, the APT is considered above corporate regulations and above the law. -End Report- The exact wording can be toyed with to create more drama. Leave the wording vague so that the crew is shocked when they find out about you executing their colleagues. Once the fax reaches the station, or the announcement is made, take the mercenary shuttle and dock with the station. Then, waltz aboard the station, speak to whatever command staff are available, and ask to see the Status Summary printed at the start of the shift (That list that says that certain people might be working with "Subversive Elements"). Once you have read the list, go after whoever is mentioned there (Obviously excluding roles like HoS and Captain), plus people with incriminating exploitable information. Simply find out where each person is located, and escort them to the bar. Have one of your mercenary buddies man the command and communications console at the bridge, and prepare an announcement for the entire crew detailing that certain crewmembers will be executed for certain reasons (Exploitable info, NT knows they are working with subversive elements, etc.), and then kill the crew you rounded up. The main purpose of the execution is to create conflict and get ghosts for part two of the gimmick. Now,expect security to come rushing at you with guns, feel free to kill them. Once your team gets wiped out, or lots of crew die in the ensuing bloodshed, ask the admins to spawn in another wave of mercenaries consisting of the ghosts of the people you just killed (Maybe an ERT as well in order to have a battle going, or maybe even an announcement saying that CC will leave the crew to fend for themselves since they attacked the original APT). The purpose of the second wave is to fuck shit up, and they will not be posing as NT representatives or anything like that. The second wave could be Pro-Synth extremists, Syndicate Strike Team, etc. From here on out, things will take their course. The first time I tried the gimmick, the second mercenary wave wiped out an ERT and unlawed the station AI. Let me know what you guys think. Quote Link to comment
SierraKomodo
It's been attempted. People still metagamed it then threw a fit about CCIA supporting antags. Never again. Quote Link to comment
whiterabit
Last time I saw a merc team try this they killed each other when the ERT was called, the ERT shot each other with stuns trying to fight over the L/Tpr position and the crew killed the ERT for some reason after the HoP got gunned down for attacking them for some other reason. It was autism. Cool idea though, potential for an interesting round if everyone doesn't generate additional chromosomes on roundstart. Quote Link to comment
Synnono
Last time I saw a merc team try this they killed each other when the ERT was called, the ERT shot each other with stuns trying to fight over the L/Tpr position and the crew killed the ERT for some reason after the HoP got gunned down for attacking them for some other reason. There were no words for how all that played out. Regarding the OP, people seem to get extremely cranky OOC about NT backing any kind of illegal action, falsified, non-canon, or otherwise. If people on the whole could stomach the premise it might be fun, but I'm not sure they would. To me, it unfortunately sounds like a bunch of Deadchat salt, ahelps and complaint threads waiting to happen. For it to work as described, you'd also need the people you killed early on to stay connected and interested in being the ERT that gets called. I find that people who are upset over a death either disassociate themselves from the round or disconnect, and the earlier someone gets taken out the more likely they are to grumble. sonicgotnuked
Oh I remember the first one. I was part of the secondary merc team and was the one who purged the AI laws. Quote Link to comment

whiterabit
Antags don't even come to the CCIA for gimmicks, they ahelp to the admins and then we're told what needs written up. "CCIA shouldn't help antags" is already dumb enough on principle of not making an interesting round because it requires staff involvement, but even the general complaint is wrong. Even if you do get the go ahead you're still at the mercy of what [uNIQUE PERSONS] you have on the crew to try and meta you at the first chance they get. As has been said countless times in other threads, It's a bad gameplan to go in expecting cooperation. It's an interesting gimmick, but pretty much guaranteed to be a salt mine. Quote Link to comment
Conservatron
people who meta are the ones in the wrong, and interesting ideas should always be encouraged. If the salt miners can't handle something not going their way, perhaps they need an attitude adjustment Quote Link to comment
Nanako
Execution is illegal under biesel law. Any execution squad can never be 'legitimate' regardless of how much NT backing they have, they're still criminals. Realistically speaking, any on-duty deaths as a result of personnel actions would need to be evaluated and defended in a subsequent legal enquiry. And shoot to kill orders would only really be defensible in extreme cases Its theoretically possible that NT could get away with murdering a group of pirates and burning their bodies. But not anyone who is an actual citizen of somewhere and would be noticed missing. Executing your employees is definitely an absurd idea, that would result in the people of biesel storming NT headquarters and lynching executives Quote Link to comment
