Superiorform Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 (edited) My idea is to add calls via holopdad, like in Star Wars. This is how it would work: Anyone walks up to any holopad, and clicks on it. This brings up two options, one to summon an AI, and one to make a call. Making a call brings up a lost of all holopads on station, Clicking on one sends the call. For example, the captain walks up to his holopad in his office, and makes a cal to the holopad in the head of security's office. The holopad in the HoS office pings a few times, and it says something like "Incoming call from: Captain's office." Then, the call can be ignored, or anyone can click on the recieving holopad to reject or accept the call. If the call is accepted, the captain's view changes to that of the camera in the HoS office, and his image appears on the HoS holopad, which he can then move around, just like the AI. (Then how would you exit the call, if not by just moving away from the holopad? Hmnn... perhaps you cannot move your holopad image. I don't really mind.) If the call is declined, it informs the person who called, and that's that. Obviously open to criticism or changes to my original suggestion, this is just the best way I thought of. EDIT; Butte suggested an all-call for captains. We could give some IDs, all heads of staff, or maybe just captains, the ability to appear on every holopa on the station, to add that little bit of extra flair to an announcement. Guest Complete Garbage Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Sounds cool, could it be coded though? Bay has it, not sure how easy a port would be but it's at least feasible. I'm supportive of this, holocalls are neat.
cloud Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 cool idea, but what if people aren't near the receiving holopad? also, would this work during a tcomms blackout? also what if an AI wanted to use that telepad?
Superiorform Posted September 6, 2017 Author Posted September 6, 2017 cool idea, but what if people aren't near the receiving holopad? also, would this work during a tcomms blackout? also what if an AI wanted to use that telepad? 1) The call rings out, and after thirty seconds, the calling pad pings out "No answer, or something." 2) Yes, it would. AI can use a holopad during TComms blackout. 3) What happens when two AIs try to use the same holopad? That happens.
ben10083 Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I support this idea, it would be neat to have this happen
Synnono Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Big fan of this. I've always wanted to be a floaty scientist hologram.
Butterrobber202 Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Suggested this awhile back to no avail. But yes, it's cool. Give captains an all call that lets them speak into every holopad.

Diggey Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Time to be a killjoy if you make a call how do you see what's on the other side? So yeah a hologram of the room? i think just make it so you stand on the holopad but can't use it to see, just to speak like a phonecall only that your other people can see a hologram of you this would result in more interesting interactions with holopad calls towards traitors and stuff :v
Butterrobber202 Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Omg words Yeah, lets use the Star Wars lore here, the caller would just see a hologram if the recive. But game mechanics and stuff

cloud Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Give captains an all call that lets them speak into every holopad. yes this
Azande Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 HOLOGRAM SPEECHES TO ENTIRE CREW AS CAPTAIN INSTEAD OF AN ANNOUNCEMENT WOULD BE SO COOL.
