[1 Dismissal]Change Vending Machines - Reduce selection to be less appetizing

Controversial suggestion but:

Lore wise- Replace the current vending machines with NT vending machines. I makes little sense for NT to pay for another company to sell shit on station when it's supposed to be a grim company to work for. For the sake of game balance vending machines should remain, but be replaced with NT brand machines. Cigarette machines can stay unmolested.

Game wise- Remove all contents of the machines and replace them with:

LiquidFood Ration, Soylen Virdians, Soylent Green and Kois Bars for food vendors and;

Water+, Quanta Cola and Biesel Soda for drinks vendors.

Water+ would be a 1 part Citalopram to 3 parts water mix.

Quanta Cola would be 1 part Methylphenidate, 1 part coffee, 2 parts Space Cola mix.

Biesel Soda would be 1 part Methylphenidate, 1 part coffee, 2 parts Mountain Wind mix.

Want something nicer? Buy it from the chef/cargo.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I don't think a company, even NanoTrasen, could get away with drugging their entire water supply. Just saying.

Going to have to give this a -1 as well. It utterly kicks people when there is no chef around as LiquidFood rations do nothing, at all. I once ate three of em and didn't even get full hunger, only went light yellow. Not to mention the fact that Soylet Green is literally people and NanoTrasen would be PR Hell'd to hell and back for both serving human meat and drugging their water supply.

Eh. It's not like they have to advertise that they did it.

But honestly.

I'd like it if the vending machine were changed to something less inside joke meme shit. Seriously, is there any food you've even seen called "Human Food"? And yet, we have 'Skrellsnax' and "Nathi-snack canned meat' (which, by the way, changes its name from a typoed version of the product to correctly spelled after you finish eating it). Not to mention references to clowns, syndicate, and griefing (4no raisins).

"lol we're an evil corporation we serve people muhhuhuh' is not the right way to do it though, I don't think. Soylent green existed in the setting it was created in for a valid reason - the world was overpopulated and people didn't have enough to eat. There is no actual reason for a space-faring race having general prosperity and lots of breathing room on their many planets to begin processing their own species as food other than for shits and giggles.

I would much more prefer that the food items inside become something a little more generic and lore friendly. For instance, skrell are a somewhat logical, analytical race, so Skrellsnax could be come something dry and boring sounding like "Skrellian Nutrient Strips". And maybe rename 'Cheese Honkers' to something less clownmeme like 'Cheese'ums' or whatever. The raisins can be called Star-Maid Raisins, to be in line with some of the other pun-expy products we have. And so on.

Hey by all means remove the drugs (though NT would be powerful enough to have such products in Tau Ceti space imo) and soylent green.

Strange with the rations since they give more neutriment then chips which move my from yellow to green no problem, and personally I've never had a problem filling up from rations.

What I was driving at though, was to make the food bland and boring to encourage people to seek food from other sources. The company as it stands is apparently fucking amazing to work for, providing perks galore. The vending machine change idea is supposed to bring some much needed exploitation into the game itself, as we already have lore.on how shit the company is.

I'm all for limiting the selection, but the idea behind it might be debatable. I think we could just have smaller portions at higher prices, rather than fewer choices that are disgusting.

Just look at workplaces in real life. Vending machines in break rooms and so on let employees get snacks of all kinds, but they're expensive and not in big quantities. An entire loaf of bread seems ridiculous, for instance.

Why would a company that wants their workers to be productive drug their water supply in such a haphazard way (people will drink different amounts etc leading to uncontrolled doses)?

Renaming stuff to make it less silly and more generic however sounds good. And upping the price might be reasonable too. But feels unnecessary to start removing stuff. A reasonable non-meta:ing character will already prefer to go to the chef/bartender for their food/drink.

I do not approve. Getmore products and Getmore affiliated products are delightful, cute, endearing, and a legacy of SS13 vending machines.

I disagree, They're a former biotech company turned energy giant, producing and distributing vendor food is exactly the kind of thing they would contract out rather than waste production on.

Edit: I also think that NT drugging the food is a little on-the-nose. If you can't find enough evil corporate dysfunction in the corporation as it stands, it may be worth looking a little harder.

Look I get that many people on here don't quite grasp heavy roleplay and the applications of the background server lore onto the game itself and frankly this low ropleplay nonsense is boring me so I think it's time for me to go on a semi-permanent hiatus from the server to find another, more grown up game :^)

But seriously though fair enough, if folks don't think it'll gel then nevermind, thanks for everyones input. Keep as is I guess. You losers.

This is really, really on the nose. I've always tried to balance the nefarious nature of NanoTrasen with a sense that "at least things aren't any worse". This sort of thing is something we'd do to spark a rev round.
