[1 dismissal] Science office supplies.

As it is now, there is a lack of office supplies in most research departments, especially Xenoarchaeology and Anomalies who (should) do a lot of paperwork. (And who is even lacking a requests console)

I'm suggesting that we turn the spare area just west of the Science Conference Room and Lift into a supply closet for office materiel.

Office supplies that I personally see as useful would be the following:

  • Cameras and Film
  • Clipboards (how are we supposed to Science! without clipboards?)
  • Folders
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Spare paper bins
  • Possibly one or two Universal Recorders

I hope you take my suggestions into consideration and I thank you for reading through this request.

Not a bad idea at all. Could probably leave this equipment in the break room of Research, or in the labs on the sub-and-upper levels. This might help along with more passive research, and encouraging people to see the scientific side of those weird alien artifacts that Xenoarchaeology finds.

I was considering that myself, but there's a lot of clutter down there as it is. An extra room, even though it doesn't have to be big, would help out a lot. That's why I thought about west of the conference room where we do have a lot of open unused space.

Replace science meeting room with a room w/ multiple little cubicle desks. For meetings, people can just turn their chairs around and face the middle of the room.

I Really would like this, but I don't think we have the space for it with the elevator there. Think we'd be forced to move it in that case.

But if you skipped the supply closet and instead turned that entire space to the west of the conference room into offices then perhaps.

The little labyrinth area port of science currently exists solely to be an incredibly obvious hideout for antagonists to complain about you to the admins over if you don't pretend not to notice it being walled off. I don't think there'd be much of a terrible loss from turning it into a workspace for science, though i still think that the bulk supplies of cameras, clipboards, folders, etc. would do well from a flavor perspective to start in a little supply closet rather than be strewn out across the room.

At first this seems like a good idea, but adding all that would lead to less and less interactions between departments.

It is one of our current goals to foster the inter-departmental cooperation.

If you need any of these supplies, then go to cargo.

Only adding a office storage closet to science because it is convenient is not really a valid argument.

(You can argue for a lot of things to be added to the departments just because its convenient and would ultimately lead to the further separation of the departments.)

playing cargo I have never ever had scientists come in asking for paper, folders, cameras, etc. Without them spawning in science, scientists just go without them or scavenge them themselves, not go to cargo. The magical answer to interdepartmental interaction isnt just "deprive everyone of everything and force them to be friends"

Well, that is their fault then if they dont come and order it.

If they dont take incentive to get the things they need, why should they get them ?

If I run out of office materials at work, then I also have to go to the person that is responsible for ordering them and handing them out.

I dont find a stack of clipboards, papers and pens on my desk every day I arrive at work.

I have to be proactive and get them.

Also, with the next update, almost every modular computer system will have the cargo order application, so it will be simpler to order items.

I concur with arrow. Ask cargo, that'd their job. Yes it takes longer then just having everything in science but that's the game. You ask mining for materials and you ask cargo for office supplies.
