Kaed Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I had an idea based on something I said in another thread. What if we added a loadout option specifically for IPCs that allowed them to start the round with mods that are installed in their chassis in a manner similar to implants (in that they are not clearly visible on examine, but can be detected with special equipment) except they can be easily added and removed by the IPC and roboticists without invasive surgery. Like USB ports behind a cover. This would allow an IPC to start the round with certain functions such as having a sec or medical HUD, without the need to put on glasses (I'm pretty sure they're capable of running that kind of program onboard), along with potentially other functions that would be reasonable and useful to have on round start. There could also be a portion of the antag store for things like a voice changer mod, something that lets you hack into APCs and unlock the interface panel (and possibly other things IPCs can interface with), maybe even something that lets the IPC overclock itself similar to how the malf AI overclock borg (extra speed, attack power, resistance to Flash, high power usage and heat). I imagine these kind of illegal mods would show up as sort of an unregistered technology when the roboticist scans it. More ideas would be useful to spitball if someone wants to pitch in.
LordFowl Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Maybe if IPC's weren't so OP currently I would be fine making them even more powerful.
Kaed Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 Maybe if IPC's weren't so OP currently I would be fine making them even more powerful. Haven't you guys been nerfing them? Mind you, I don't really play them, but I thought you added like flash vulnerability and some stuff.
Pratepresidenten Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 IPCs does have flash vulnerability now, yes. Besides, a sunglasses mod to block flashes would obviously be locked behind sec roles. As you wouldnt try to flash a sec officer anyway, right? Med/sechuds has no effect on the game one way or another if its visible or not. I see no drawback to this.
Kaed Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 Never said they'd block flashes, just add a HUD.. This is mainly to offer alternatives to stupid things like wearing sunglasses over your monitor face.
Scheveningen Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 (edited) Maybe if IPC's weren't so OP currently I would be fine making them even more powerful. Haven't you guys been nerfing them? Mind you, I don't really play them, but I thought you added like flash vulnerability and some stuff. The last change I made wasn't so drastic so as to make them incredibly vulnerable. The nerf was targeted to make them more vulnerable in a vacuum without suit-cooling, rather than outright making them weaker to burn on purpose. a .1 damage adjustment doesn't really matter that much when considering laser beams but it matters a lot when an IPC begins to cook internally in a vacuum. Flash vulnerability is hardly such a glaring weakness for any species. Might be a good idea to consider playing an IPC yourself and understanding what their strengths and flaws lie. ben10083 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 This makes sense, IPC should be able to upgrade themselves in more ways than just what model they are. But for gameplay sake limit mods to stuff like a Sec/Med hud and MAYBE add something like a "Advanced Cooling Unit" which makes it take longer for IPCs to overheat when in no atmos and when running, but not much. +1
tbear13 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I would be fine with HUDs, but other than that, IPCs are already the best/most power-gamey race, buffing them more wouldn't be a great idea.
Kaed Posted February 14, 2018 Author Posted February 14, 2018 I don't think it would be unreasonable to give them HUD plugins in exchange for not being able to utilize sunglasses.
JMJ_99 Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Considering IPCs are restricted completely from using Hard suits I don't see it unreasonable for them to have access to Modules to compensate for this. I think that essentially non-antag IPCs should only have access HuDs and Cooling upgrade, any others locked off for Antags or bus
