BYOND Key:Riqpley_Dagasd

Character Names:Kiluho Irusole, Delta MkII, Jackal MkIV, Koor Ezzioh, Putyatin Yermolayevich, Abyss, Bandit, Ka'Akaix'Vakk Zo'ra, Za'Akaix'Ku Zo'ra.

Species you are applying to play:Skrell.

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Blue.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:I did.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to try playing as a Skrell, not only because I got interested in their lore, but because they are so different than other races, emotionally-wise, and all that. I like the many personalities that I can create with so many differences. For example, I can create a skrell that dislikes synthetics, and that has their pride above almost everything, or I can create a Skrell that is neutral alongside synthetics, and thinks that they are bound to make big findings, and makes ceremonies after doing such.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, almost everything. Skrell have been learning and exploring since the Year of Enlightenment, and are so advanced, compared to other species. And as I said before, I like how I can create many personalities from this lore.

Character Name:Glonii-Kel Quool

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Glonii'kel was born on 2346. He was born on Qerrbalak, and was the only egg to be born between three from his parents. He was born on a colony called Kel'gliish, that before the Rebellion, used to be a rather sizeable research center, next to a big greenhouse, where medicinal xenoflora would be grown to be studied, but at the time, was being used as a food source. His parents used to work on this center, and study Xenoflora. Glonii-Kel got really interested by xenobotany, when he found out what simple plants could do. As he grew up, he started to learn what happened before he was born, with the genophage, and the Final Betrayal itself. His parents were Qeblaks, therefore he became one as well, so he had an objective: to help the Skrellian race, by finding an efficient way of somehow, reverting the effects of the genophage, through xenobotany.

Something that Glonii-Kel liked when young, was to observe his parents take care of the greenhouse. He would ask every time why would his father put a certain nutrient to a certain plant, or ask his mother how would she mutate a plant's genes. Everything was so interesting to him. A research lab wasn't the best place for a growing Skrell, he needed something to pass his time, so he was given a small vertical spiral notebook with the symbol of the research facility on it's cover. From that day, he started to write basically everything that he'd learn, or important thoughts. He'd go everywhere with his little notebook, awaiting for something to write.

As the years passed, communications across Qerrbalak were re-established. This event created a spark of hope inside Glonii-Kel. Then, the Federation was re-created, and the Kel'gliish was added to it, and the research center was re-activated. He started to attend to an university in Duizvhiak'qlip, and graduated years after, on xenobotany fields. When Glonii-Kel was 67 years old, the humanity made first contact. Days after it, all that he could hear was about humans, and he got curious about them. Glonii-Kel wanted to actually see a human.

Glonii-Kel always thought that he was indebted to help the Skrellian race to recover from the Rebellion. He always supported the re-formation of the Jargon Federation, and always thought that they would really rise back as they were before the Glorsh-Omega. Inside himself, he believes that Artificial Intelligences can be useful, if built with extreme care. He finds the other species interesting, because of their different behaviour, and anatomy. He also got really interested in their music, and his favourite one became Mr Sandman, from The Chordettes.

Years passed, and Glonii-Kel got his doctorate on xenobotany fields, with 89 years old. Even though, he'd still write down daily notes from his life on notebooks. As Skrell had good diplomatic relations with humans, and he was searching for a job, he spoke to old friends from the research facility that he lived on, and they seemed to like a lot to interact with the human race. Because of this, he decided that he'd try to work with humans. He started then to look around the extranet, looking for a company focused on research. He saw several results with the name of NanoTrasen, and one of his friends was even working on one of it's facilities, the NSS Antlia. He found other research companies, but none of them would relate to Xenobotany. So he decided to give this NanoTrasen a try. He researched about it further, and found out that NanoTrasen had several research other facilities, and one of them even had first contact with the Vaurca. It seemed, to him, that working for NanoTrasen would lead him to sucess. Something that also called his attention is the fact that there are other species on their stations, and ships, so it would be the perfect chance for him to interact with other species.

It was the day of the interview, and Glonii-Kel was about to test his Tau Ceti Basic skills, and it was the first time that he'd see a human, a real human. He felt nervous, something that he didn't feel for a long time. As always, he brought his little notebook, with all of his thoughts, and memories. When he arrived at the room in wich he was about to be interviewed, there he saw. A human. They looked tall, and... Strange, somehow. Maybe because they had no headtails. Or maybe because they had a big nose, or even maybe because they had completely different eyes. He sat down, in front of them, and began the interview. Glonii-Kel was never so nervous in his life.

"Right, what is your name?"

With a little of trouble, he managed to spell out his first words to a human.

"G-Glonii-Kel Quool."

"Okay, let me see here... Very well. Here it says, that you have a PhD in Xenoflora, is that right?"

"Yes, it is."

"Alright, why did you choose NanoTrasen?"

He stopped for a moment to think.

"I have chosen NanoTrasen because I heard about your research facilities, and I believe that I would be able to assist on your research. I also wish to work with other species, and see how they think, and act."

"Do you have any criminal records?"

"Not at all."

"Any health issues?"

"None."

"Do you have any problems working with other species?"

"This my first time seeing another species. Although I believe I will not have any problems working with such, so no."

"Right. Do you have any problems working with synthetics?"

He thought, and thought.

"No."

"Alright, we will contact you when the results are up. Have a good day."

Days passed, and Glonii-Kel got the answer. He was hired, and assigned to the NSS Aurora, a research station in Tau Ceti.

What do you like about this character?

I like that Glonii-Kel wants to help the skrell, due to the of the genophage. I also like him because he wishes to learn more about humans, and their really different way of thinking.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

I'd say 6/10. Problems with powergaming, and validhunting, but I am trying my best to improve.

Notes:

If you see anything wrong with the grammar, or lore issues, please tell me. I am really sure that there is at least something that is wrong here, as it always happens. Also, IPCs are still superior.

Riq's good people. Since I came back, they've shown DRASTIC improvement from the meme they were a year or so ago, and I absolutely love interacting with them in medical.

I'm going to +1 this, but I'm curious, I want to know a little more about this character's personality, their.. outlook on things. Let's hear some political and social stances.

I'll get to that, and try to make his personality as clear as possible.

Riq the thicc use to be a fellow meme, one of the few salad makers of the Aurora. But he has ascended into proper RP and is a good boy now, like all who play should eventually evolve into.

he a cool kiddo, and its a decent App

-1 bad ligger.

But no, in all honesty I've had good experienced with a few of his characters. Irusole, Delta, even Ku. I think they could make a good whitelist, and hell their story was even better than mine. But that's not saying much, I'm not talented in literature.

In all honestly, Skrell are rare and I'd like to see more. I like my squidbois.

+1 from me, queen of bad decisions.

Riqpley has been a horrible, disgusting and unapologetic powergamer.

For months and maybe even years I have seen nothing but him chasing down valids, beating antags which he not only supported but was proud of as if it was an achievement.

I have had to contact or ahelp him multiple times and each time has been worse than the last.

So I'm glad he changed completely, Riqpley has recently been a pleasure to game with and while I never interacted with him on a personal level he's no longer a player I hate to see even logged in.

His Unathi and Tajara characters can actually be considered as, well, characters instead of validhunting tools. Even acting outside of the best interest of the player to fulfill their own, personal character goal which I can appreciate.

The application is decent if not standart, I don't have anything to point on it right now.

I support this application.

Hey there. Loow here.

It's time to talk about this application.

First off, I appreciate the name-drop of the "Year of Enlightenment". That's one of those more obscure details that hardly gets any play in these apps.

Seems like your character goes the "try to lessen the effects of partial sterilization" route. A popular choice both in and out of character. He also likes "Mr. Sandman", a classic. I like that fun fact. Another application mentioned a favorite type of music too, and I posted that I really liked that detail a mere few hours before this app was posted. It should come as no surprise to find out that I like seeing it here too.

I'll try to be direct and blunt. Parts of this application feel rushed.

Many applicants rush the "okay, now how do I send them to the Aurora" part of their character design. This application is close to feeling like there's a whole person behind the app, but it isn't quite there yet.

You've established the "big dreams" for Glonii-Kel. He wants to help his people by lessening the damage done to them. But there's just something missing from this whole experience. I suggest you engage in discussion and banter in this thread, if you want it to be accepted. Getting more insight into your thoughts, this character, and people's thoughts might help quite a bit.

From what I see in this thread, you've responded to Jenn's conversation topics with simple statements. I see that you've edited the app a few times, but I see no sign of what's changed or what you've discussed. Having conversations in this topic would be very helpful.

I see a lot of feedback here which suggests you've been improving as a player. That's good. Improvement is a good thing for everyone. Ideally, we'd all keep improving forever.

But.

I also see a lot of feedback calling this app "decent" with very little insight beyond it.

That's not good.

I don't like "decent" applications. I like being wowed, impressed, and entertained. This app is your chance to show off, not just show up. It's also your chance to write something with some sort of guarantee that the appropriate loredev will read it. So think about if you have anything to say.

To start, we need more insight into the character if we even want to consider this app. Coalf and some others gave high praise on your previous RP and characters. Jenn gave excellent topics for discussion, which could still be expanded on through dialogue in this thread. Pro-Tip: Responding to your app brings it to the top of the list of apps, while editing does not.

"...I'm curious, I want to know a little more about this character's personality, their.. outlook on things. Let's hear some political and social stances."

As always, I want to remind you that you can post a link to your app in the ooc channel on the station once per round. More feedback would be helpful, but more discussion is vital.

Yeeah, I'll get to that. I'm not really good at doing that part of sending them to the Aurora. I'll try my best to improve that.

Yeah, It's kind of hard for me to do this kind of thing, not because I am not sure how to, but I can't get much attention.

Alright, i'll try to have it in mind from now on.

I actually do, I even post more times than usual, It's just rare for me to actually get a reply without begging for it.

Alright, I'll go ahead and work on the story a little, trying to make it more alive.

Gonna give a quick bit of review, cuz' Loow got angry when I only put it in the lorechat.

Your answers overall are fairly bare-bones, and your character is; with no intent to insult; obscenely boring and unoriginal. I'm reading through your character description and knowing full well at what points you stopped writing to check on the wiki's info. Nothing in this application or this character makes me believe you've put actual thought and consideration into Skrellian culture and being, all you have given us is descriptions and recounts of info from the wiki. I see no personal reflection on the species either from your perspective or from your characters.

Take an example of your answer on: "Why do you wish to play this specific race"; you mention how they have a different way of thinking... That's it. You give no description of this different way, no aknowledgement that it exists and certainly no evidence of you putting it into use.

I fully understand the need in these applications to put your knowledge about the species' lore to use, but there is similarily a need to show you actually understand the species, rather than just being able to spout facts and fit those facts into a carbon cut-out skrell character.

I see no reason to deny this because of that, despite my negative tone. But I'd definitely like to see some work done on it.

I quite like how you had the characters career set up from the very start, growing from interest to full blown career. As I don't know much of the Skrell lore, I can't really say much else about it.

What I can say, however, is that Riq is pretty damn good at playing alien characters. My interactions with him as Irusole were delightful, and Delta will forever be my second best medical friend. (ha!)

I fully believe that he'll be able to play a Skrell character extremely well, and I can't wait to bully him ingame. +1 <3

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in your application.

You've been responsive to the feedback and you show earnesty. It's always a positive when an applicant is earnest.

You hit a lot of good beats in his life story. You effectively show how life was before and after the reformation of the Federation through the laboratories' changing priorities, and you did it well.

Your character has clear goals and passions in their life. It's easy to see how Glonii-Kel Quool's ambition's are guiding their career and general path in life.

The method of getting on the Aurora is, as other posters have pointed out, rather rushed. For me, personally, it is the only thing that is holding back this application in a substantial method.

How did he hear of the Aurora? Did he want to work here because of its reputation? Is he after the benefits NT provides, the pay that NT provides being higher than Federation xenobotany, the desire to work amongst humans to learn about them, a restless wanderlust to experience new things out in space that has Skrell enjoy just wandering off somewhere else?

If you can just fit that final piece of the puzzle in then this application will be very strong.

Hey Senpai Jackboot,

I did what you asked for, and I seem, on my view, to cover all the spots that you pointed out. You can either go back to the application, or simply open this spoiler,

Something that also called his attention is the fact that there are other species on their stations, and ships, so it would be the perfect chance for him to interact with other species.

That's a good response. It shows he saw a lot of potential in the Aurora, and in his own ability to make a career there. Xenobotany is definitively a niche field.

Application accepted!
