  1. BYOND Key: Bedshaped Player Byond Key: Skaterboybob Character name: BLANK-BOT (IPC) Staff involved: Alberyk Reason for complaint: It really takes me out of the game when I constantly see an IPC behaving like BLANK-BOT does; the bickering with crew, screaming constantly in all-caps and the way his 'personality' type appears to be that of a petulant child. I don't think Skaterboybob has either the maturity or the skill at roleplaying to play an IPC. He claimed to be a 7 or 8 in roleplay quality but I think he's got a lot more work to do. His whitelisting was a mistake, I think. As I go down through all the comments people made -1 for his whitelisting app; he's still doing all the things people didn't like Carl Duran for, just as a synthetic. Here, Skaterboybob says he made an OOC mistake while he was on the phone releasing phoron all over toxins; fair enough. However, he then chooses for BLANK-BOT to behave like a screaming child who nobody in their right mind should have assigned as a Doctor of Dangerous Freaking Explosive Gas Department. BLANK-BOT (follow) says, "Okay, I've had it up to fucking HERE with this racism." Approximate Date/Time: 26/05/16 At 21:00 UTC+0
  2. Is that to be official then? No law uploads unless you're heavily qualified in IT? Sounds like that should be hashed out in a community discussion.
  3. I like to imagine that it's usually quite a boring job but every round is the first time your character has experienced anything extraordinary.
  4. The bottom of the picture says "© 2458 Edmond Holloway" and that ain't you, chief.
  5. I have no idea what CCIA are or what the acronym even stands for. Is it like a whitelisted thing? Are those the people with yellow forum names? Where can I read up about it? (oh is it like CentComm Central Intelligence Agency?)
  6. I think Revolution is an excellent gamemode but it has many problems: What happens when there's no heads What happens when you can't come up with a reason to riot What happens when you can't RP recruit anyone and immediately get thrown in security There should be objective, a better way of gaining recuits (re-education machine?) and possibly automated centcomm messages like in malf along the lines of "Your pay has been suspended until a time TBD" "The following employees: X, Y and Z are now terminated". I played a rev round with no heads so I tried to turn it into a "there tekin ar jerbs" and rebel against all IPCs and cyborgs. Objectives like that could be fun.
  7. That picture was confidentially sent to the CCIA, how could you even get it?? (speaking as the taker of said picture)
  8. This is not the complaint board. I made a suggestion which I think will improve the game.
  9. Jackbooted thuggery is a good way to put it. I remember years ago this kind of regulation existed on Bay12 or atleast I remember HoS' that would enforce it. Security officers started out lightly equipped and gradually added bits to their loadout as the situation dictated it, until you were fully kitted out with riot gear/lethal weapons/barricades in code red.
  10. Yeah E-guns are fairly overpowered from a gameplay perspective and the heisters wouldn't stand a chance. Is there anything stopping a Warden from just walking into the Armoury and handing out lethals though? There's no regulation in place, so as long as it's for "protecting the station" then the length of that onus can be pretty broadly interpreted.
  11. I'm not going to quote 1138's post because he is behaving weirdly personal and slightly creepy. Regardless of what you think about IRL police shows of strength, there should be a strictly set guideline for what security officers can carry in what alert level. It's only my opinion that they should be very limited in what they should carry in code green but if people disagree with this that's fine; as long as there's a definition of what the maximum threat-appearance weaponry and gear they can have. Also Menown really should have taken his issues with my nonchalant comment to PMs since it has nothing to do with my topic and you shouldn't be encouraging derailing, Alberyk.
  12. Isn't that kind of metagaming? How is that metagaming? I'm wearing the vest because I don't want to run as fast as every single other Tajara. My catbeast weighs almost three hundred pounds. He's ICly not supposed to be superspeed. Tajaran move quickly because of their gameplay design, you're slowing them down using OOC knowledge that heavy vests will lower their speed back down to normal. You're not powergaming because you're actually lowering your character's abilities but it's definitely metagaming.
  13. There is the regular security armour in the officer lockers, then there's heavy armour in the unsecure armoury next to the .45 pistols that all officers have access to. When I'm playing as security, I don't generally wear armour or carry a pistol other than a taser. I don't see the RP sense in arming yourself to the teeth if it's just going to be another work day and you aren't expecting anything significant to happen. Giving Officer's E-guns just gives them a massive OOC advantage. Isn't that kind of metagaming?
  14. An important issue right now in 21st America is the ongoing militarization of the police. When you begin to look less like the people that you protect and more like a grim military occupier, you lose the trust of the people and you cease to be able to interact effectively with the citizens you guard. In SS13 we have various alert levels to tell people what the security status of the station is, but typically we are in code green; everything is good with the station and nobody has anything to fear. So what troubles me is that there are many security officers who will still walk around and don gear that is wildly excessive for the current threat level. It bothers me when a new shift begins and the first thing I see a fellow security officer do is go for the heavy armor vest and a .45 pistol. Is there really any need for that? I wouldn't expect private security to be walking around in bulky armor with no threat to them and I wouldn't expect someone to use rubber bullets in code green either; which result in bleeding and damage. I suggest new corporate regulations for security setting out what gear they are allowed to carry in code green. They shouldn't be allowed to wear body armor unless there is a blue alert and a serious threat to the station and they certainly shouldn't be allowed to equip themselves with .45 pistols when they have tasers, batons and more than enough other ways of taking down people for minor offenses.
  15. I don't think there should be alt titles to preserve the sanctity of this excellent chart. But seriously, I don't see the point in an alt title for the exact same job position. When a Station Engineer/Scientist/Doctor uses a different job title, it's because it describes a completely different role or job description. It's going to cause a lot of confusion for players that are familiar with the current descriptions. There's no reason why you can't add a "Job title change" form to the request console if people care about it enough, otherwise it's a pointless and slightly damaging change IMHO.
  16. I found this thread quite late, didn't know it'd already been decided.
  17. Having played the Polaris bots, I think they're good; more freedom for skins is nice. Perhaps a less strict synthetic RP will be needed though if you have synthetics who probably look like the androids from Alien. edit: I think it would be a good idea to completely replace IPCs with androids, it means people with a mind for synthetic roleplay are already whitelisted and there's less confusion with different races etc.
  18. Fluffybirb is a really fun name to say aloud. Primarily because "birb" is so similar to "bird" and the idea of a bird being fluffy is quite interesting. It evokes the idea of a bird's feathers going by the adjective of "fluffy". A concept that sounds ridiculous because "fluffy" usually follows as a descriptor for fur, but it get the observer thinking about why such a creature with feathers can't use this adjective. Can a bird be fluffy? What is fluff? Websters dictionary describes it as "soft fibres from fabrics such as wool or cotton which accumulate in small light clumps"; so actually you can't use "fluffy" as an adjective for a bird, nevermind. I also love playing with Crow and Aether and I think they're played by a good roleplayer. The song is cool too.
  19. I'm going to withdraw the complaint. Thanks for the responses.
  20. I'll be a good lad, who means well.
  21. If an immediate permaban is your SOP for logging mid-admin contact then I can't contest the reasons the ban was issued. I can see the issue why a genuinely solitary brigged player shouldn't be allowed to harm themselves, although in my case I had been brigged pretty unfairly for 10 minutes; a non-trivial amount of time in a game. I guess the problem I had with this case was that Aimless seemed to come at the situation of 'penning yourself' where they already had a permaban in mind; I didn't think it warranted it. Should I appeal now or what?
  22. The one thing I'm not disputing is that I probably shouldn't have logged off. When you started threatening me with a permanent ban, the ridiculousness of the threat made me pretty angry. You didn't sound like someone who had the best interests of the server in mind, you sounded petty and vindictive. The main reasons I'm complaining are that you didn't act like I would hope an admin of my favourite SS13 server should. Your behaviour was very questionable in how you employed: pedantry "it doesn't do actual damage, just pops up a low font size message" "I was in a solitary cell, nobody could see me, nobody could hear me (no radio)" [*]excessive punishment You have a huge amount of tools at your disposal For your to go straight to a permanent ban is excessive, especially considering I haven't gotten much more than a warning for minor rp failings. I would have expected the maximum sentence would have been a temp ban for perhaps 3 days. I would still like to see the ahelp logs because I am 99% sure you had finished ascertaining the issue from me and you had decided to start issuing threats of a permaban, I left after all of your useful information had been deduced [*]admin babysitting You didn't even wait until any IC interactions could have been concluded I gave you a semi-plausible reason why someone might, if they felt like they were illegally detained without any form of communication, might try to exploit suit-sensors in order to force someone to interact with him. It is also worth noting that I was aiming for the leg all the time; my character was fully aware they did not want to do any real damage If you will look at the IC chat logs, you will see that I RPed fear the entire time; my character shouted and plead for help or someone to talk to even though I knew OOC nobody could hear me. You froze me in place even though I had 100% health and was in a solitary cell without doing any harm to anyone else's roleplay on the server I am still waiting on two things in this complaint: The ahelp logs because I was accused of being rude and I don't think this was true A statement from an admin who is higher or equal to AimlessAnalyst in seniority
  23. 1. You're making that up. Baycode pens do zero damage. 2. From my point of view, zero considerations were given towards an investigation. 3. Your "stabbing myself to death with a pen" comment is nullified by the facts above and that what the action means has to be interpreted by the person preforming said action. In this case it was a total of eight times in the right leg. I could jab myself IRL with a pen 8 times in the leg and it would not injure me, draw blood or cause me any kind of reflexive pain. 4. I was issued a permanent ban before rounds end. Had I known when the round were to end, I would gladly have held off on posting before such time but alas.
  24. Considering it's an action that does zero damage. What constitutes 'harm' is entirely up to the person roleplaying. If I was actually bashing myself with a fire extinguisher or doing what I believed constituted genuine pain RP, I wouldn't even be disputing this. This is patently false. I am wandering into the realm of character complaint; investigation begins with interview, from the point I was cuffed to the point I was left in solitary zero interview was conducted all the while I was repeatedly stating what happened. I wasn't given a single utterance of conversation from either the officer or the warden while they stripped me naked (including my radio) and threw me into solitary confinement. I will add that all the while I never resisted arrest or made their arrest difficult. But since my character is about to be thrown into solitary without communication methods with no expectation of an investigation or appeal I believe this is an entirely believable basis for my refutations below: As I said, considering this is a pen and it does zero damage, what constitutes pain RP is up to what, in the minds eye of the roleplayer, amounts to damage. You are speaking out of ignorance. If you check the logs, the entire time I was imprisoned I screamed and shouted aloud for someone to help and of my innocence. In no way was I roleplaying an insane character. I was roleplaying a desperately afraid character who feared being thrown into a solitary pen without appeal or discourse. I believe this is entirely untrue and I'm challenging you to post the logs from my ahelps with AimlessAnalyst and with Alberyk. This is a bit of a shocking statement on your part. Are you implying I was partly punished for posting a staff complaint? This is your forums; if you don't want staff complaints, why do you have the sub-board for it? Permanently banned* As stated before: This is the entire reason I'm posting this complaint. I believe AimlessAnalyst abused their power over trivialities in an overly severe way.
  25. I've had memorable interactions with Rob Oster and Oliver Roadmann and both of them very positive. DatBerry is also a thoroughly enjoyable person to talk to. I really like that character backstory too.
