  1. Yes, it would. If this gets implemented, don't let them ride it.
  2. Played with him during the mentioned merc round. He either already played in the past or just has a natural feeling for the race. Either way, +1. Just remember to say "we" and "us".
  3. I wasn't directly involved in this, but can I just point out that: This implies that, if successful, it doesn't matter what you do. Someone shouldn't be granted amnesty because they're good at the game, nor punished because they're bad at it. That's not why rules are there. If I wanted, I could just build a Gygax at round start as a mechatronic engineer and just charge any antag who comes within 20 feet of the station, but I don't, because that shuts people down and will get me banned.
  4. While I really like this, it does kind of limit how much control you have over your own character, which I dislike. For example, Joie Desai, my journalist, is currently living with a HoS, and thus living much more comfortably than the budget she's given would suggest. But, if the new system is added, she won't be able to afford it. Still, I very much like the idea! But it's going to need work.
  5. BYOND key: Ornias Character names: Joie Desai, Breccan Weaver, Star Rends the Sky, Astor Noton, Whispers of Spoken Steel. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 3 months. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Breccan Weaver is ready to ascend to Head of Security. His time is now. Why did you come to Aurora?: My friend and I were looking for a server which appealed more to what I first imagined when I heard about SS13. This was it. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Repeatedly. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role play is playing a part for the enjoyment of everyone. It means that you need to have the responsibility to let others play their part and you play yours, all building into one universe that you all join in. It allows for a story so much more in depth than a single person could write, as each character has such detail put into them. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A head of staff makes sure the station doesn't fall apart - by having a degree of control, they also take on a degree of responsibility to make sure that their department isn't overstepping its bounds and making sure the station is under control. For example, it's down to the Head of Security to make sure that security officers aren't overly aggressive during arrests, or Research Directors to make sure that dangerous experiments are carried out on-station. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: OOCly, Heads of Staff have to get their jobs done. They have to make sure that their department is on task, and that nobody is doing anything dangerous or stupid. ALL whitelisted players need to show maturity, because they've been granted a position of power which can easily be abused. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Breccan Weaver Character age: 30 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Breccan Weaver is an incredibly loyal man from Sol who achieved averagely in his earlier years of life. Prone to violence and conflict, he often had trouble getting proper education and work experiences, so when he eventually moved out of school at 17 he struggled to find work. His father, an avid supporter of Hephaestus Industries and a loyal worker, got him a temporary manual-labor job in a the companies robotics division, pressing and assisting in the construction of the components required for robotic limbs. When he turned 18, his arm got stuck in one of the machines, and he was dragged through, causing the machine to jam and almost killing him. Through intense medical care, he was nursed back to health, but not without major augmentation - assisted eyes, several prosthetic limbs, and a robotic heart to keep him alive. His skin had to be re-grafted to negate the damage done, but in the end he was ready to get back to work on his 19th birthday, although the effects of such a vast augmentation were still noticeable, and remain so to this day. He never felt any urge to return to Hephaestus Industries, but remains a loyal, if not particularly vocal, supporter to this day. He instead searched for work around Tau-Ceti, but an unqualified young man searching for work didn't have much luck. That was until he found a job in a small private security company, where he discovered a veritable aptitude of physical combat and high-stress situations. He worked at this company for eight years, before it was closed, but continued to find work around the planet until he was offered the opportunity to work at NanoTrasen - which he graciously accepted. What do you like about this character?: Breccan Weaver is probably the character that relates closest to my morals. He's intensely loyal, and is capable of defending himself and others. His huge weakness - being 90% machine - helps to provide a sneakier (if scummier) tactic for dealing with him. What do you dislike about this character?: I find that he doesn't often speak with the rest of security as he could perhaps afford. This will, inevitably, change with promotion. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He knows what he's doing, he's comfortable and relatively well-known, and can handle high-stress situations. He's also memorized all the regulation codes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: As I've said before, it depends on the situation. I'd argue a solid 7/10 most of the time, but I'm obviously biased. Extra notes: N/A
  6. Wow. Looks like I'm the only person that... didn't hate Helper. Helper was a tool, in the nicest possible way. Someone says 'Do This', he says 'Okay!'. That was it. If he was only asked to do useful things, he'd only do useful things. But people ask him to break the law, and so he would break the law. He always intentionally botched any assault or murder orders. And he made it so that heads of staff could override orders. Helper was so close to being something really cool, which is a shame, because people abusing him ruined it.
  7. I love Ricochet. <3 +1 Also, he's updated the backstory like 18 times. This man will stop at nothing
  8. I head-butted you once, causing minor damage, in response to you calling me an 'intruder' over the radio when I was in your field of vision (and a significant distance away, and you were facing away from me) for about three seconds. The minor assault was roleplayed out, with me approaching you and dealing, as you said, 9 damage. I then backed off, and you chased me around the bridge, despite a security officer being right there and ordering you to stop. I cut off your leg because you were chasing me, with quite obvious intent to hurt me - and from your immediate response to seeing me it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume you were trying to actually hurt me. The most aggressive thing I did there was head-butt you, and that was justified both IC and OOC. Again, your leg was removed in self-defense, and preparing to take down someone who can obviously generate a sword from mid-air doesn't make any sense from an IC perspective, considering your character is a virologist. What's more, trying to take someone out with literally no warning, after I was obviously attempting to help you and make sure you stayed alive, and had attempted to procure a robotic leg to fix your injury, is shitty OOC. I had not acted aggressively towards you: all serious injuries were caused in self-defense. The security officer who was present can confirm this, as she saw the entire incident. What's more, I had twice had an oppertunity to murder you - once when you chased me the first time, and once when you injected me the second - but the second time, even then, I went for the non-lethal way of dealing with you - by removing your arm. I understand that not every attack has to have a monologue, but you have me no indication, used scummy tactics to beat me, and took me out of the round as opposed to using it as a way to make it more interesting. If this had appropriate RP buildup, then I'd be content with an answer like this. But quite simply, there wasn't - I only teleported because that was the only way I stood a chance to avoid being immediately ganked by your syringe-gun-out-of-nowhere. You forced me to respond with aggression, leaving me no other option. And, from an OOC perspective, taking someone out of the round like that is just wrong. I'd twice kept you in the round instead of choosing to remove you, and you repaid the kindness by taking me out of the round permanently. I had not done anything to take you out of the round, and had only acted in a way to include you in the roleplay. You decided to attack me, to take me out of the round, and to antagonize me postmortem in return. That's the issue I have.
  9. BYOND Key: Ornias Game ID: bs0MVf Player Byond Key: CommanderXor Staff involved: cakeisossim Reason for complaint: The round started as the very definition of a skeleton shift (with two people and a synthetic) on-station, being Security Officer Alice Knapp and CommanderXor's character "Edward Cane", who was playing a virologist at the time, and ESRA, the stations Android. I spawned as the rounds antagonist, the ninja, who was named Zumokiku. I worked out how to get my suit to work, as I've never played the role before, and teleported into arrivals. I walked to the central ring, still working out how to interact with my suit, and saw Edward Cane talking with ESRA. He immediately stated on radio that there was an 'Intruder', which although frustrating I can't really blame, because someone wearing a skintight black suit isn't exactly inconspicuous. He went on saying there was an intruder until security arrived. The security officer, Alice Knapp, came to the scene and instigated an RP, where I introduced myself, and greeted each of the members of crew, taking my helmet down to interact. I proceeded to, in response to him yelling 'intruder' the moment he saw me and with appropriate buildup, head-butt him, which didn't do much damage. He then chased me around the central ring, despite me being an intruder to a high-tech research station and him only a virologist. After running literally halfway across the station, I turned around and (aiming for the legs) incapacitated him with my sword. Bear in mind that I'm new to the suit, and don't exactly know how it works, and that was the only way I knew to defend myself when being attacked. I took out his leg, and security arrived, and I was compliant, bear in mind. I assisted in medical efforts, went to robotics in an attempt to get the roboticist (who just arrived on-station) to build a new leg, looked for a wheelchair for him, got him a cane, and was generally assisting all efforts, in an attempt to help him. He gets his wheelchair, but robotics isn't responding and can't be found so he is still missing his limb. Up until this point, even though it was a silly thing to do rushing me as a virologist, nothing worthy of staff intervention came up. I head-butted him (a non-lethal and indeed non-serious attack) in response to him acting foolishly IC, and defended myself while chased. But then, unfortunately, he decided to take it upon himself to deal with me. Now, I walk around with my hood down, which means my face is exposed. That's intentional. I want to give people a way to deal with me, and a way they can interact with me IC other than just being an always-armor-clad warrior. So he takes advantage of this and takes the syringe gun from medical, and somehow (considering he is a virologist) mixes up a chemical to knock me unconscious. I say hello to him, and ask him about how his recovery is going, and then he (giving no warning, bear in mind) shoots me twice in the head with the syringe gun. So I attempt to run, but seeing I'm not going to escape, attempt to incapacitate him - AKA removing his arms. Unfortunately, I am only able to remove one before the anesthetic takes effect, and I fall unconscious. That's the first issue I have: a virologist who probably shouldn't have much knowledge of chemicals decided to gank an antagonist who was not acting aggressively with no warning. I had attacked him in the past, yes, but only in self-defense and had assisted in medical efforts to fix him, and in that incident I had shown nothing but good-will. And then we get onto the second issue: he continuously bludgeoned me while I was down and he was in a wheelchair with a crowbar, until a cyborg was able to convince him to stop. He claims he did not intend to kill me, but he hit me a lot. I'm afraid I was unconscious at the time, so I don't have a copy of how many times I was hit, but I heard the sound effect a lot - enough to send me into crit. And then, finally, we get into the third issue. The doctor, who had just arrived on station, was trying to help me. But then Edward Cane instructed the doctor to straight-jacket me and hide my control module. I was then left in cryo for the remainder of the round, with no assistance from anybody. To add insult to injury, they then proceeded to run around, bragging about 'robusting the ninja' and mocking them. As a side note, a moderator (CakeIsOssim) was online at the time, but I feel like their judgement in the issue might have been slightly impaired due to his IC character's (ESRA) perspective and knowledge of the situation. Approximate Date/Time: 9 PM NZT, 9/29/2016
  10. Agreed. It's no use if you can't even hope to control it because nobody knows its the language that triggers it. In MGSV, I lost 50 men before I figured out what was causing the illness. How are we going to avoid that here?
  11. exactly i love it
  12. Alright, here's the thing: Roderick toes the line. Yes. Nobody is going to argue this. But, unlike all other "shitty" sec, he tries, and damn if it doesn't show. He used to be, frankly, a shitty antag. Now, he's one of the best ones I know. He used to be a shitty sec. He's improved - a lot. I don't know enough about the most recent incident to know whether it deserves punishment, but all I know is that he's a hard-working slow learner. A punishment, perhaps. But permanently removing him from sec is not a decision that I can support. A couple weeks of being demoted to cadet, perhaps, but nothing more. Not for someone who genuinely tries to improve. Also, while I don't come here to start shit, 1138, please calm down. I get it, you're really frustrated with his sec play and you want to defend your decision, nobodies faulting you for that. But you're coming across as quite aggressive, intentionally or not.
  13. Actually, ricochet was one of the fundamental reasons why Rubber Bullets aren't pure rubber - they ricochet like crazy. I'd get behind this, as long as it wasn't an absolute certainty it would ricochet. The idea of having a room with one bullet shooting around until it hit something would be crazy. Also, if there's a way to predict where the ricochet would go, through the angle, etc - get ready for Revolver Ocelot.
  14. This was me. Losing that box of mice was the most crushing thing in the world.
  15. Negatory. I never even insinuated that. Violent antags can be alright, even fun, if played correctly. Violent antags can make murder be dramatic, or sad, or cool, or even funny. But what's not cool is when they just, out of the blue, kill people for no reason, with no intention other than to kill. Violence is a means to and end, not an end in itself. As a MalfAI, or any antag for that question, murder should not happen out of the blue to someone who has no way of defending themselves and without meaningful RP. Being dragged into the backroom and batoned to death is not fun for anyone. Being shot after a tense discussion, or being killed in a dramatic fashion, on the other hand, is. That's where I draw the line.
  16. +1 You've been a very confident and stable member of the station for a while. No question asked that you're ready to try a Head role.
  17. You're not. We're all here because we prefer HRP over LRP. Don't try to deny it, that's the whole reason we're here. Thus, it's our duty to make sure it stays that way. Nanako said that she thought that almost everyone who's been here long enough to make an account would feel unsatisfied with LRP, and I would agree. So please, calm down, nobodies trying to attack anyone or insinuate that they're better than anyone or anything. Everybody just wants whats best. As for my opinion, a bad MalfAI doesn't neccesarily need to be 'banned' perse, but there's no harm in outlining good ideas. I've always liked the idea of an objective generator, for the less creative out there to have something to do (almost like the way that the devil does it on Baystation).
  18. I love him and care for him. Alice Knapp is the difference between shitcurity and the stations saving grace. She's basically a HoS in all but the title. +1
  19. I actually really like this idea, the idea of making everyone have different capabilities is excellent. I do have a couple of issues with it though: 1) It assumes that every skill has to be categorized into these areas. Suppose I have a very strong and very dexterous character, I expect that would mean I wouldn't be able to put up other scores to average because it would probably be a point-based system when it all comes down to it, even if the points are assigned through some form of story-telling. If the 'demerit' system works, this issue could be averted by allowing characters to be multi-talented but not be overpowered. If it doesn't, you'll just have an annoying limit which will frustrate less binary characters. 2) With the storytelling issue, it will mean that pretty much everyone's characters will be very similar in backgrounds if they possess certain skills (eg. all security have the path that highest boosts physical prowess, all surgeons have path that highest boosts surgery, etc.). I really like the idea though. I do get sick of having to RP all deficiencies while sometimes others ignore it, and if done well this would be great. Also, keep skills.

    Bite intent

Important note: In an actual street-fight, biting is not only a valid tactic but sometimes the only viable one (and I imagine most fights in SS13 are desperate no-holes-barred brawls). I've done it in the past, and it saved my skin. Personally, I'd like it if this happened sometimes when one party was down on the ground aiming for the mouth or something. That way, it is more of a "hey, that's bad-ass" and adds character to the alien species, rather than a common occurrence.
  21. Thanks for the quick reply! The one thing that scares me about Dionaea- their grammar. He was not one of the Dionae who attacked and hijacked the shuttle, but was part of the gestalt which hijacked it. That is to say- he was part of the "tribe" which hijacked it, not one of those who actually hijacked it themselves. Yeah, I already wuss out every time I get antag and message the admins anyway. If you feel like anything isn't fitting with Dionaea standards or expectations, please let me know so I can change it. Thanks!
  22. Initially I was a bit scared of this long list of critiques, but these all seem understandable so I'm gonna move through these. Simply put, yes. I really love the whole idea of Dionaea being mighty but slow, and I plan to (in future, not for my first character) make great use of this in RP. Sure thing! An excerpt from the wiki article: "gestalts still show impressive knowledge quite often, pointing towards the species having memory on-par, if not superior, to digital data storage solutions known to species." And the will of iron I assumed due to their incredible natural curiosity, which wouldn't come without the will to do it. Maybe kind of a leap, but it just seemed to fit with the archetype. Perhaps this was too big a concept to put into a throw-away sentence, but with a mixture of being incredibly intelligent, able to learn things instantly, and being able to learn all languages by genetic exposure, in combination with the fact that they seem to be (at least from my experience) one of the least-hated races, I think that they will have a lot of RP value outside of just being a chew-toy for humans, if that makes sense. Sure thing! According to the wiki page, there is very little overarching culture with the Dionaea- they are all completely diverse and disconnected, but with many major themes- such as their names, their knowledge being passed down by mouth-to-mouth, that sort of thing. But each group, so to speak, of the Dionaea, has their own culture - the Reade Colossus has its own bar, Venter's Satellite being almost a complete hive-mind with individuals of the gestalt not fearing for their own saftety, etc. This gives me a lot of room for RPing an adaptable background and culture, which is yet another reason why I chose it. For the same reason that we keep people who broke into prisons in prison. The scouting vessel was overwhelmed by a large number of attackers, but they only captured an individual Dionae. Yes. As it says on the wiki-page, they are a VERY curiosity-driven race- and it would probably be more of a stretch to assume that they wouldn't try to use the ship. Whats more, the second discovery of the Dionaea encountered the same immediate hostility for the sake of curiosity- the ship was taken, its passengers killed, and it was cleared, before being let go. This is basically running under the assumption that they had seen it being piloted as they had tried to escape, and mimicked them. Nothing on the vessel survived. If you mean by the people who captured the ship, those were part of the fleet itself, not part of the vessel. Apologies if that wasn't conveyed properly. This never happened. They learned through mimicry of the scouting vessel attempting to escape, and through their own investigation. As I said, he was not one of the hijackers. Do I believe it would be unrealistic if they just let him go? Yes. But this was after fifteen years of service, and with a lengthy process of trials and debates, of a creature that was a very young age (especially for Dionaea) when the hijacking occurred, who was never actually a part of the assault. This is fair. I never really had any intention to use this character as an antag. I just like the idea of using him to benefit the station and add to RP. Maybe, in a couple of weeks, I'll give it a shot, but who knows. This is fine! If you have any other questions, please ask! Note: Formatting is hell. Please forgive me.
  23. PLEASE! I think that both the messages and the image should be customization (in text only, of course). I can see tons of RP value in these.
