We're a heavy RP server, not everything needs to be mechanical. I'd like to see what happens post-cloning to be more fleshed out. People who have been cloned are not allowed to work in certain departments due to the volatile nature of cloning (to avoid security just cloning it's officers and sending them back out), those who are cloned actually act like it's seriously affected them, that sort of thing.

[Accepted] The Stryker's Head of Staff Application

+1 a million times over, even if I haven't seen you in like two months. At the same time, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the antag contest mean that IPC's can no longer be heads? Regardless, def. capable of a whitelist, and I thought you already were. -

Hey, I play Astor Noton (Not Norton jackboot you son o). I was here and I'm going to weigh in a bit differently from what you'd probably expect. From an IC perspective, I was absolutely furious with the warden Sean Richter for permanently scarring me with a laser rifle blast point blank to the head, and allowing me to be attacked by two aliens while I shouted for his help. Now, as far as I'm concerned, that direct course of action was stupid, but I wouldn't say punishment-worthy. More just "Don't do this again or there will be trouble". However, it was a very confusing round. Any time a wizard goes peacewiz, they are going to be attacked eventually if they try anything even slightly out of line. I think we can all agree that this is fine - an antagonist, say, staff of changes someone or fireballs them, then they've made themselves a threat and should be arrested. I think we're all on the same page there. However, Jackboot made no attempts to step out of line at all. He was attacked by a random with a welder, which I considered ahelping, but I didn't know the full story. This same random disarmed him and tried to throw away his staff. I'm afraid I don't remember names, but if anyone could find that on logs, that would be great. I called for security, and nobody tried to stop them, because the mentality of antag = bad guy persisted. I think that's where this whole issue stems from - a very much antag = valid mindset. Take, for example, when I found at some point in the round a man lying, bleeding out on the ground, with the same person from earlier standing over them. I recoiled, and asked what the hell happened - and after a short "putting the pieces together" moment accused him of killing the man lying on the ground, which he then AGREED WITH. He claimed to have killed this guy and I called for security, told the warden Sean Richter, an officer, and a detective that the murderer was right there - and I was quite literally ignored as the man walked away because not antag = not guilty. The blame was immediately placed on the antag, which provided more fuel for the crew to attack the antag, which provided more reasons for the antag to need to defend themselves, which created more fuel for the crew to attack the antag. That's just my two cents though. -
I strongly support this, even though it will take a lot of time and effort. The issue with gamemodes like ninja are that they're so restricting. With wizard, you can be practically anything you want. With traitor, you can be any kind of evil bastard you want to be. Hell, even with cult, you have a lot of tools at your disposal. With ninja, you're pretty much universally a fucking dickbag swordman obsessed with muh honor, who self destructs when security decides to try to steal the hardsuit because he keeps draining APCs. Different options would be fucking beautiful, specifically visually. The typical "black ninja suit" makes the antagonist look identical to all others - even wizard garbs have some kind of variety. Different culture inspirations - samurai, gladiator, that sort of thing, alongside more general options, combined with modern machinery would look fucking sick. Having a telecrystal-style hardsuit mount list would be beautiful as well - a very slow natural recharge rate for x telecrystals, an energy sword in the suit for y, an energy halberd for z, etc. Unfortunately, while Ninja is fucking godlike, the only way to make the most of that power is to absolutely cheese it and attack from the shadows. That's the point of a ninja. Unfortunately, this being a heavy RP server, that mentality is strongly disencouraged and makes the ninja practically useless and identical.

BYOND key: Ornias Character names: Astor Noton, Joie Desai, Pining For The Lost Days, Whispers Of Spoken Steel, Serena Baskett How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Quite a while now, account age is 499 days, but I've only been playing for about half of that. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: It's about time I finally got Head of Staff whitelist - I've wanted to play one for a while, but never got around to writing up an application. Until today ;^) Why did you come to Aurora?: @ShameOnTurtles and I were looking for a server which appealed more to what I first imagined when I heard about SS13. This was it. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Aye. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role play is playing a part for the enjoyment of everyone. It means that you need to have the responsibility to let others play their part and you play yours, all building into one universe that you all join in. It allows for a story so much more in depth than a single person could write, as each character has such detail put into them. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A head of staff makes sure the station doesn't fall apart - by having a degree of control, they also take on a degree of responsibility to make sure that their department isn't overstepping its bounds and making sure the station is under control. For example, it's down to the Head of Security to make sure that security officers aren't overly aggressive during arrests, or Research Directors to make sure that dangerous experiments aren't carried out on-station. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: OOCly, Heads of Staff have to get their jobs done. They have to make sure that their department is on task, and that nobody is doing anything dangerous or stupid. ALL whitelisted players need to show maturity, because they've been granted a position of power which can easily be abused. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. What do you like about this character?: An Einstein Engines man at heart, with a varied well of experience, he is able to provide new interactions with crew and have knowledge of things outside of Push Button to Terminate. What do you dislike about this character?: His "fatherly" tone can be a bit condescending if abused, so I will need to be careful to keep that down when not required. Outside of that, I wouldn't have made the character if I didn't like them. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Maturity, knowledge, experience. He meets all requirements and will be a good fit for the Exodus. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 8/10. I've improved a lot, and when playing humans, I tend to be very committed to staying in role. Extra notes: Answers ported directly from the last thread, as suggested.

This looks so fucking good. Hyped. Can't wait to see how it looks during a round.

If I could suggest a modkit-style item for this? So that there's absolutely no complaints about the item having functionality? On the actual object itself, I think it's really cool. Definitely makes sense that someone working in robotics would make use of robotics' tools. Finally, if these go through, they'll be quite easy to miss unless you actively RP them (which, knowing you, you will).

As in title - Please add the ability to password-protect files on the station consoles around the station. Currently, all files on all consoles can be seen by anyone that can access the console. This would serve to remedy this. As an addition, emagging could (perhaps?) remove all password locks on the console.

Despite being CCIA, I'm not actually head-of-staff whitelisted, so I'll post my opinions here. Also, Disclaimerâ„¢, these are my opinions, not an official CCIA Statement. If you were NanoTrasen, what would you make the job description of a Station Captain? What would necessary education/skills be? (Assuming I get to set the precedents) "Must have spent at least 10 years working aboard a NanoTrasen vessel, three of which in some form of an appropriate Command Role (I'm going to assume that other stations would have other options for command roles, eg. the NSS Cephus could be from a purely managerial role). Must display capability in stressful situations and effective judgement abilities. A mandatory six week course followed by a test with a 50% (?) pass-rate. (TL;DR: Not an easy job to get)." Outside of the purely paperwork side of their abilities, they must also be proven trustful and completely honest with the company, and be able to prioritize the purpose of the station (research). What areas of the station do you think the Captain has direct jurisdiction over? (I.e, possibly the bridge, his office, maybe the hallways) Everywhere, dammit. They're the captain, no? They are given a job with ultimate authority because they are trusted with it, and as such, they have say over everything in the station. Captains that abuse this will not keep their job long. Do you think it should be easier for Heads to override the Captain in terms of their department? Or is his ultimate authority on everything good? From an IC perspective, not at all. From an OOC perspective, I feel uncomfortable giving an answer for certain. If both sides are doing their jobs well, this should never become an issue. The captain trusts the heads of staff with their abilities to direct their departments, and the heads trust the captain with his ability to make the best decisions for the station. But if the captains being a shitter, the heads of staff will have to put their departments in jeopardy. If the head of staff is being a shitter, the captain may not be able to solve the problems the station is solving and do his job. Do you think it's okay for the Captain to hire 'Executive/Bridge Assistants' to help him in his work? As long as they're not a 19 year old girl with blue hair, why should I care? Don't tell them about the nuke disk, don't tell them any company secrets, just have them filing paperwork and grabbing things, and they'll be a great IC help to your work, and an OOC RP opportunity. What control over station finances should the Captain have? See above: ALL. He's captain. He's in charge. He's the man. Should the Captain have to wear the provided uniform, or is formal wear (Like Jester's suit) okay? Captain wearing uniform: Optimal. Captain wearing formal-wear: Fine, as long as you still wear something to show you're captain (eg. a badge, the hat, something something). Captain wearing a grey jumpsuit: No.

Does this mean like mouse-over a word and it will tell you a bit more about it? Because if so, 'abbreviation' could be a term in text only - commonly-known lore could be shown without needing to explain it in LOOC, and a whole stream of other useful things. Like Lohikar said, the colour feature is already added by pens - although I'd kill for more pen-colours. Specifically green for the captain? <3 But everything else looks outstanding. Paperwork can look nice if done correctly, but it can be a pain without the proper tools. Add more [logo] options to boot.

I propose an alternative - have a cap at which the brute_modifier scales downwards. I like the idea of force gloves having the capacity to make any commonplace object a deadly weapon - that's what it's good for. But if we decrease it down to 1.5x, they will become practically useless. But if there's a flat brute_modifier cap which only activates past a certain default damage (eg. 20), the force gloves will still keep their innate value while losing the more ridiculous side of things.

I wish we'd stop focusing on the first given example because it's by far the worst example of poor play. An armed team comes up asking for an IPC which just arrived on the station. Refusing to return it would be dangerous to the station, it's crew, and the company if it turns out that it IS owned by the armed team. By returning the IPC, yes they shut down the gimmick, but the gimmick presented only two options and to keep the IPC would be horrendously out of character for a head of staff whose job it is to put the Company first and others second. If they'd taken a CREWMEMBER hostage, and they'd been denied, that would be a different situation altogether. But it's not the companies problem, and would just be a waste of resources as far as they're concerned. In the simplest terms possible, the antags were expecting the Captain to create the conflict. That's not what the captains there for, that's what the antags are there for. Focus on the other flaws that XanderDox has exhibited as a Head of Staff, not this singular, positive incident.

Just gonna throw this out there: I don't particuarly like Xander's captain, and from the sounds of things I'm not alone, but the first given example is reasonable and fair. It's not NT or the Exodus' job to take care of this IPC without a tag. They're not the police. It was safer for the company and the Exodus to give the IPC back to the raiders, and with IPCs being inferior to humans in the mind of the captain, that makes it all the more reasonable. On the other hand, the other stuff there still stands and I concur with.

As long as it can connect to Game Ranger, or whatever tool Hunter wants to use to get the internet up, it should work.

PLEASE. I write a lot of research reports in science and it's disheartening to just see them get wiped at the end of each round - but giving them actual value other than the RD just yelling at you to get to work? I'd kill for it. On another note, toxins research would be excellent. I'd love to see new machines, new ways to work with explosives other than just "big explosion small explosion". I want to see controlled demolitions, targeted explosions, that kind of thing. On how to reward it, depending on how far this project goes towards toxins (because it's clearly very ambitious, which I like), I'd like to see perhaps the option to set a predicted explosion radius on a computer in toxins launch, and award points depending on how close the explosion is to that prediction. Also remove the bombcap. I'm excited for this project, I really am. It will probably take a lot of fine-tweaking to get right, so we don't either fly through it or never get it done, but I'm excited to see science full of eager scientists again.
