"Yeah, dude, I broke my legs so I could save charge on my power cell. Nah, it's, like, for the conservation of company resources. I'm supporting minimizing emissions by conserving power. You wouldn't understand, you're not loyal enough, I love NT, haha."

then i think they need to be buffed for different reasons than he does. knives irl are dangerous. even if you're some trained world class fuckin krav maga master, someone with a knife will more often than not fuck you up. as it stands in the code, lots of things are comically underpowered - my favorite example was a point-blank sniper rifle to the head getting fixed up by an officer with a bandage. but it's most obvious here with the fact that knives seem to provide NO advantage to attackers - sure, they have a bonus to attack, but don't have that sick punch RNG that can send people flying, knock them down, etc, and can be disarmed to easily it's going to give you practically no edge. knives should give you a huge advantage at close range. guns should have a huge advantage at long range. that's how it works. for reference: butterfly knives made of steel provide 15 damage. made out of diamond provides 25 damage. this would be good if they couldn't be disarmed super easily. and, yeah, i think it's dumb that any engineer (or assistant) can use their pure willpower to shape a knife from a chunk of steel.
-
I get why knives are being brought up in specific though - even when you're well trained, someone with a knife can and will fuck you up unless you're very lucky. It's possible to knock a toolbox gun, or even something bigger like a sword or spear out of someones hand, but knives are small, sharp, dangerous, and hard to get someone to drop. I think most melee weapons should have really low chance to get disarmed, with stuff like baseball bats having the highest and stuff like knives & e-swords having the lowest - because as it stands, a greytider can just take someones knife and run off. And, on that note, I think that knives (and practically ALL weapons) should get major damage buffs. You can stab someone in the chest 5 times and they'll just walk it off. But that's another topic.

This is pretty good, but it will still leave druids with a shit-ton of useless spells and like. 3 good ones. hyped AF tho <3 <# ,# ,#< <#3 <3

To start, wizard is the most powerful antagonist in the game, with the possible exception of the ninja, which needs godlike coordination to play right. Wizards have outstanding maneuverability, which is what makes them so damn hard to kill. And their damage dealing spells tend to take down opponents in instants. But there is one wizard, who, at the table of wizards, is bullied by all. Few know his name. Few care about his story. He is the druid. Now let's look at what makes the druid so unbelievably shit. DRUIDS. SUCK. DICK. I understand that bears are getting a huge damage buff next update, but even with it this class is painfully underpowered just because of how bad all its spells are. Upgrade practically all of their spells. Give them no clothes requirement from birth. Whatever it takes. Just get this super, super cool class vaguely playable.

It's getting late so I'm not exactly at a position to discuss this in-depth, but... I definitely want to see comms restricted to departmental only for multiple reasons - not least of which, with crazy stuff happening on the station so frequently, it is impossible to roleplay normally when people shout about murder, relay terrorist threats, and other such violence every couple minutes. That, and I agree that the whole asking over the radio "Why r u asking for insulated gloves????" when they're trying to talk to you face-to-face, or asking over the radio whether someone actually signed for something, despite holding the signed and stamped document in their hands, is literally just valid-hunting by proxy. It's using tools to tell everyone OOCly "ANTAG HERE", in the same vain as pAIs that instantly start screeching bloody murder whenever anything bad happens - "Why is Joe Bloggs walking around holding a strange book?". TL;DR: Enforce stronger radio chatter regulations + have some kind of punishment, be it IC or OOC for trying to use the radio to catch The Antags™, or remove the common radio. Please <3

Dionaea do not have eyes. They still intake and perceive light around them, for a full 360 degrees, which is why I'd argue that diona are the only characters that should be reacting to events behind them. Diona being flashed is much like humans being flashed, I would assume: a sudden, overwhelming flash of light disorientates the diona, and seeing as light is especially important to diona, I can see why it would be even more important. I agree that diona should be able to wear masks and glasses, but they should provide no benefits.

+1 a thousand times over. More roleplay stuff on a roleplay server, thanks. But like Superiorform said, I don't get why it's restricted purely to medical stuff. Science and engineering in particular are constantly used by people who wouldn't reasonably have the knowledge (deconstructing doors, walls, windows, etc.).

Medical Reform - New Guidelines, Qualifications, and Minimum Ages
Ornias replied to a topic in General Announcements
I'm going to have to disagree here on a simple principle- you don't need to play as a nurse. You make that choice to play a role that is not going to be able to do much on their own. Roleplay and assisting roles exist. Science is limited, and if roboticists are running around like fully fledged RDs they should be ahelped. Security officers that run around doing forensics should be ahelped. And medical staff should be ahelped for doing what takes even longer to study for than being a leading scientist with no training. Other departments do need restrictions like these. Super-Scientists and god-engineers be damned. These changes (at least in my mind) are here to preserve believably, the ability to create a specialized character, and to promote teamwork. If I play a medical doctor and every nurse and resident from here to the frontier can do what I studied for eight years to do, then I'm not going to be playing a doctor. I'm going to be playing a citizen in a labcoat and scrubs who has some fancy toys. If I play a surgeon and every medical doctor from here to the frontier can do what I studied for eight years to do, then I'm not going to be playing a surgeon. I'm going to be playing a medical doctor with a fancy title. If I play an emergency physician and everyone goes directly over my head because 'lol just dump them in cryo', then I'm going to have even less to do than an IAA. I'm happy that characters are being made to have believable restrictions and knowledge. I've always been annoyed of biomechanics doing exosuit construction in the blink of an eye, and of medical doctors doing complex surgeries while there's a full-time surgeon on. I know everyone hates it when someone says "lol we're not heavy RP", but without reasonable character restrictions we're really not. Good roleplay isn't about things going smoothly, or a single person saving the day - it's about the restrictions they have, and how they react to them. That's my two cents at least. -
What are the benefits of using custom essay writing service

No shame in resigning because you don't want to continue a project in a direction you don't want. No shame in wanting someone to resign because they're making changes you don't want. Thank you for trying something new, Chev. Sorry it didn't work out how you wanted it to, and thank you for being graceful in your resignation.

Please. Druid is painfully underpowered as it is currently, and I've mentioned how horrible this spell is several times. This could kill two birds with one stone.

BYOND Key: Ornias Character name: Harley O'Ryan Item name: Phoenixport Shirt/Chic Sunglasses Why is your character carrying said item to work? Harley was, until very recently, a permanent resident of Phoenixport. She has only left home for short periods of time, and even then only to nearby places like Republic's Landing or Phoenix Park. Her work opportunities with Nanotrasen is the first chance that she's ever taken to leave home, but thanks to the marvels of modern transport she is still able to return home (and spend almost the entirety of her off-hours) to Phoenixport. As such, all of her clothing, mannerisms, and fashion come from the continental capital. Not having to worry about health risks as a result of her employment (such as material spills or medical contamination), she wears her regular clothing. SHIRT: Item function(s): A shirt + jeans underwear clothing item. Portrayed as blue jeans and a t-shirt, which would be a one-time chamelion-kit-esque item which would allow the changing between 4 different shirts (Eiffel Tower Diner, Pyramids of Giza Café, 'Phoenixport', and New Parthenon). Item description: “A white t-shirt with the writing 'Eiffel Tower Diner' on it in a small font, below a recreation of the famous monument in question, the Eiffel Tower.” / “A white t-shirt with “GIZA CAFÉ” written in large, retro font, with a small background. It looks slightly well-worn.” / “A black vintage shirt with “PHOENIXPORT” written on it in a font. A small icon of an orange phoenix is perched on the “O”.” / A grey t-shirt with a stylistic white, faded depiction of the Parthenon on it. It has been cut in half, displaying the inside, with sections clearly labelled in small font. Item appearance: Basically as stated above, in however the pixel equivalent of it would be. A straight rip of the classic jeans would work fine for the legwear that goes with it. I'd just like it to stand out enough that it's noticeably different from just a regular jeans + undershirt combo. SUNGLASSES: Item function(s): Regular eyewear which provides no protection against flashes or other things which would be stopped by shades. If possible, a right-click verb to tilt the sunglasses up above the eyes would be nice, but would not be needed. Item description: “A relatively expensive set of Phoenixport-manufactured sunglasses. They do not look like they would provide much protection.” Item appearance: A pixelated version of fashionable eyewear. Something like this: http://tinyurl.com/phoenixport-glasses would be nice. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? Very rarely does any discussion of the galaxy (outside of the station) come up in day-to-day conversation. Very few people have ever heard of Selene, let alone Phoenixport. Being able to leak a little bit of the lore into gameplay would help get the information across to new and old players alike. Additional comments: I get that making four sprites for t-shirts is kind of a pain, so I'm sorry if that's inconvenient. Other ideas included a Clockworks shirt, to get across a small part of the already established lore, but I don't believe that would fit with the effect I'm trying to go for. The shirts are going to be worn with an open plaid shirt most shifts. Finally, because I'm not sure how custom items work, I'd like it to be possible for me to not spawn with this custom item sometimes. I already change my clothing every shift, and while I plan to use this custom item 4 shifts out of 5, there will be times that she'll just be wearing a plain shirt. That, and wearing sunglasses every shift may come across as obnoxious.

I meant of course a CMO isn't going to order a surgeon to patrol the halls because it isn't at all related to their job. But of course a HoS is going to order an officer to patrol the halls because that's part of their job. All heads of staff have complete power over their departments. They can 'command' them so long as they obey the captain, directives, and regulations. A HoS has command over security. A CMO has command over medical. An RD has command over research. If you think they don't have complete power over the department, then you've misunderstood the purpose of a head. They're not the arbitrary 'mad skillz department master'. They're in charge, they call the shots.

This stuff should definitely be bwoinkworthy, even as an antagonist. Not to mention the cargo tech/QM running around in the xenomorph suit. It's not immersive, it's not interesting, it's just a quick OOC chuckle. That said, implementing a hard limit will create difficulties later, I'm almost sure of it. Just bwoink people who abuse it, and maybe provide a log to staff when a certain milestone is passed (20 pizzas ordered).

Damn shame it had to be removed, but I understand why. Hope it gets reworked into something amazing and fun, until then, I'm going to need to put a fun character on hold.

One suggestion per thread, I get it, but PLEASE stop making them spawn in primary tool storage. That's just asking for trouble. Otherwise, I play an assistant role. I get reassigned to something useful every shift, often some subsection of the service department - waiter, barista, sous-chef. If you take away that role, I'll be forced to pick a specific department and no longer be allowed to be that low-level everyman. Assitant may be abused by some, but as others have addressed, not all. And, unlike genetics, they don't have the knowledge or clearance to make people superpowered freaks. Start giving assistants stuff to assist with and you'll find they'll either get bored and quit peacefully or feel accepted and stay.

[Approved]JamOfBoy's Dionaea Application
Ornias replied to JamOfBoy's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Not the loredev or anything, but I'll try to answer your questions. 1. Your backstory seems fine (albeit short), but your 'identify what makes this race different from role-playing a human' question is about the roleplay, not the mechanical differences. Tell us what makes the race INTERESTING. Dionae are literally an amalgamation of different lifeforms, working as one being completely differently from how any other species on-station operates. They take phrases for names because they all, individually, decide they would rather be identified by a phrase than a name. They store all information without any writing, able to learn incredible things just by watching it done. They will cannibalize their dead nymphs to provide nutrients, are functionally immortal, and can 'singlehandedly' (if there is such a thing) reach planet-sizes. There is SO MUCH that can be done with it. Tell us your take on it. 2. They can assimilate diona nymphs, including other players if they are controlled by one, but they cannot absorb regular corpses. 3. It is, unfortunately, an automatic process. It shows some cool messages, and then your new arm erupts in a spray of sap. It's pretty damn cool. 4. I'm not all together sure - they're very slow, even when sprinting, so don't expect to ever outrun a human. They also can't sprint for every long, and need to be in the light to regenerate energy for it. 5. This, at least community wise, seems pretty split - I've seen a few speak quickly, but I personally think you shouldn't. Speaking slowly is part of the race, and IC challenges are just as important as mechanical challenges. At least, personally, that's what I think. That said, some people speak quicker, just try not to be over the top about it. That said, Lore-dev knows better than I do. -
Add this + make it a mixed gamemode with vampire, please. Obviously there would need to be a bit of balancing, but the tone would be a great fit. And I love the idea of more veil-creatures.

[Resolved] Ban Request - Jesse Armstrong
Ornias replied to Aaron J. Hughes's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I'm not saying he acted right in this case. I'm saying that everyone fucks up once in a while. I saw him go and try to apologize to Jamie Fraser afterwards for the way he acted. I'm not gonna hold a grudge for someone making one bad call. If he's a 'toxic player', you're going to need to provide more than one example. I've never spoken with the guy OOCly, but providing one contested example isn't going to help anyone, you're going to need to present what kind of calls he's making that is ruining your experience. Because from the way I can see it now, you're saying "he took me down as a detective, and I believe the way he did it was unfair, so he is a toxic player". The way he took you down may well have been unfair, but that doesn't make a player toxic. That means he made a bad call.
