That's a good point. Hmn. I'll think on this before I post a response to it.

I like this idea. The other solution, I think, would be to give each melee weapon a modifier for disarm chance, with perhaps spears and bats being easier to disarm than flashes and knives.
-
No, knives and roboticists are being brought up in specific because OP tried to kidnap someone as cultist last night, fucked up and let the victim get away with his headset to call for help, and a roboticist happened to be the first one to look in on it because it was right across from their maintenance door. They pretty much just disarmed OP and pushed them into a corner for a few seconds until Security showed up and arrested them. An easily avoidable situation that doesn't mean disarming needs nerfs. This is all true, I did make this thread after getting rekt by a roboticist. But the point is, when I have a knife in an enclosed space vs someone with his fists, the guy with his fists should have run away. If you came up against someone with a knife in a cramped alleyway you would have next to no chance of beating the knifeman in a fight. I wrongly assumed that a knife would help me win a 1vs1 fight, and I was dead wrong, because in this game, unlike in real life, you can just knock a knife out of someone's hand without dying. It is not easy to disarm someone with a knife, if you try to fight a knifeman with your fists you shouldn't be able to pull some Jackie Chan shit and expect to come away alive.

You're not expected to play dumb. You are expected to drive a narrative, and make the round fun for everyone else, as one of the most powerful people in the game. Just because you don't personally like the antags gimmick, if it is making it fun for everyone, as long as it is somewhat believable, you shouldn't be shutting him down ASAP. You need to have the attitude of "I am a head of staff, I need to make it fun for me, but I also need to make it fun for others. If I cannot be bothered doing that, I can play a job with less responsibility."
-
It's happened to all of us. We have a knife, any combat knife, say, a butterfly knife. You are in a 1vs1 in an enclosed spice. And the knife offers no advantage at all because the first hero to run at you in maint and disarm spam you completely equalises. It is not easy at all to fight a man with a knife. If you try to do so, you should die. They are practically useless in a fight because they can so easily be disarmed. Please reduce the disarm chance. You have a 50/50 chance of winning a 1vs1 against any unarmed roboticist.

[Accepted] Cheap31's Unathi Application

I really love this backstory, an unathi who really wanted to be a warrior, has fought in a war, but ultimately ends up crushed, and works as a janitor. +1 from me. -
[1 Dismissal] Delet cloning for non Protohumans
Superiorform replied to Pacmandevil's topic in Archive
I hate the "clone-trooper" aspect of medical, that forces me to make sec officers uncloneable. Maybe we could make cloning an RnD only thing? -
Smart antags would properly stop their hostage/victim from speaking, it's not fucking antags over, it's making them think things over and be more careful. So you can't speak to your victim after you've dragged him into maintenance without everyone hearing him scream?
-
I feel like this would be great for atmosphere on cult rounds and the like, but is it really worth how much it fucks over antagonists?
-
I said you see through the room's camera - a hologram of the room would appear on the pad, giving anyone next to or on the pad the ability to see the room.
-
I'll edit this into the OP.

1) The call rings out, and after thirty seconds, the calling pad pings out "No answer, or something." 2) Yes, it would. AI can use a holopad during TComms blackout. 3) What happens when two AIs try to use the same holopad? That happens.
-
My idea is to add calls via holopdad, like in Star Wars. This is how it would work: Anyone walks up to any holopad, and clicks on it. This brings up two options, one to summon an AI, and one to make a call. Making a call brings up a lost of all holopads on station, Clicking on one sends the call. For example, the captain walks up to his holopad in his office, and makes a cal to the holopad in the head of security's office. The holopad in the HoS office pings a few times, and it says something like "Incoming call from: Captain's office." Then, the call can be ignored, or anyone can click on the recieving holopad to reject or accept the call. If the call is accepted, the captain's view changes to that of the camera in the HoS office, and his image appears on the HoS holopad, which he can then move around, just like the AI. (Then how would you exit the call, if not by just moving away from the holopad? Hmnn... perhaps you cannot move your holopad image. I don't really mind.) If the call is declined, it informs the person who called, and that's that. Obviously open to criticism or changes to my original suggestion, this is just the best way I thought of. EDIT; Butte suggested an all-call for captains. We could give some IDs, all heads of staff, or maybe just captains, the ability to appear on every holopa on the station, to add that little bit of extra flair to an announcement.

All my +1s. The main problem with playing cult is everything is so terribly disorganised, its horrible, and nothing gets done, and it just ends up with a few people carrying the cult. This would stop newbie cultists from ending the round for the cultists, and it would provide a clear leader to give orders. One of the main reasons the cult is always so disorganised is how difficult it is to communicate. Perhaps this leader should be able to communicate like he is using a communicate rune at any time, and he gets a special colour when he does this?

Reporting Personnel: Cathryn Latham Rank of Reporting Personnel: Research Director Game ID: bQh-cMvV] Personnel Involved: - Cathryn Latham, Victim (Superiorform) - Vol-Blakk Xul-Qrr'Liax, Chief Engineer, Victim (Dunno, sorry) - Karl Pollard, Chief Medical Officer, Victim (Dunno, sorry) - Faysal Al-Shenawi, Witness (Alberyk) - Klause Eliade, Offender (XanderDox) Time of Incident: Real time: Round ended 8:45 PM BST, 03/09/2017 Location of Incident: Engineering Department, Bridge Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [X]Neglect of Duty []Harassment [X]Assault [X]Misconduct Overview of the Incident: The incident began with the raising of the station alert level to blue. At the time, I was speaking to Mr Mitchell, and I did let slip the fact that no-one had mentioned anything about blue alert. It turns out that Mr Eliade had took it upon himself to raise to blue because of giant spiders on station, without informing or asking any other members of command. It should be noted that I have spoken to other command members before, and they echoed my sentiment. There is a rather common opinion that Mr Eliade often fails to communicate what he is doing, or what he thinks, but we shall come to that later. Perhaps ten, or twenty minutes later, I hear over the command channel Mr Liax asking why there are security officer tromping through his department, and searching for an engineer. Clearly, Mr Eliade failed to inform the chief engineer that he was having one of his engineers searched. I know, myself, that I would be quite upset if a head of security tried to search or arrest one of my inferiors without my knowing. Mr Pollard mentions that code blue was initiated to deal with the spider threat, and not to deal with any possible subversive elements within the crew, and Mr Eliade shamelessly proclaims that he is now using code blue to search crewmembers. He was right too, from a technical standpoint. However, the rest of command considered this an abuse of the code blue. It was initiated to kill spiders, not violate crewmember's privacy, and I, myself, tell Mr Eliade to "quiet down and get a warrant." The rest of command asks him to get a warrant, and the HoS says something to the effect of "I do not need a warrant, I am entering engineering and searching it." He is rather didactic about the whole affair. I initiate a command vote to reinstate full privacy laws, and force the head of security to get a warrant, which he ignores, and his behaviour takes an even steeper decline. He orders the arrest of the chief engineer, citing neglect of duty. Obviously, Mr Pollard points out how the chief engineer's actions in no way fall under neglect of duty, and he is, of course, ignored. I tell the head of security to not go about arresting command staff for disagreeing with him, when, in an ultimate twist of irony, he orders my arrest - for sabotage. I remember what he said clearly. This is a direct quote. "Latham, did we have a vote on changing the AI's laws? Or do I need to arrest you for sabotage too?" He is referring to earlier, when I asked the rest of command if I could relaw the AI, and was ignored. In the end, I did not touch the AI. The head of security did detain me for sabotage. Command votes are being called left and right, to void the warrants, to have the head of security stand down, to take him to a manners class. He did tell me to "shut the fuck up." The head of security conveniently avoids all of these minor legal and ethical obstacles by putting warrants on us. He reasons that, as prisoners, we are unable to take part in command decisions, and in doing so, he secures his iron fist around command's, and the station's throat. I would just like to note how easily the head of security managed to sieze total power over the station, against the will of station command, merely by putting warrants up on us and telling us we cannot vote. A chilling thought, indeed. All of command goes to the bridge, where I and Mr Liax are promptly tased by Halogen, a security officer. This is where it all gets muddled up in my mind, forgive any mistakes. We try to reason with the security officers, tell them that votes have been held, four for, one against, but we are ignored. They trusted in the commander's loyalty implant. It is at this point that the word "mutiny" is first thrown out. Mr Eliade, in a second twist of dramatic irony, accused the rest of command as mutiny. The concept contradicts itself. How could command possibly mutiny? The definition of mutiny is as follows: "To openly rebel against or attempt to remove command staff with violent intent." This is exactly what the HoS did. He had us all arrested and held on the bridge so he could ignore our decisions. He removed our authority to vote by arresting us, and rebelled against our communal decision. He also said that we could not make captain-level decisions without a unanimous decision, which is provably false. I would advise Mr Eliade to learn our directives. I do believe Mr Eliade let his violent sense of pride get in the way of his ability to lead. He swore at me on multiple occasions, and he screamed and shouted at me. ((I assume all-caps is screaming and shouting?)). He could not swallow the fact that he was overruled, and he misused code blue, among many other offences. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: No one on station was of a higher rank than us, no Internal Affairs Agents were present. Actions taken: None Additional notes: I would not like any punishments levied against the ISD, they were merely following their loyalty implanted boss. However, the lack of knowledge on what decisions outrule others is rather worrying, from those who are paid to enforce regulations and directives.

Make Armour and Spacesuits Take Time to Equip

Actually, now that I think about it, it would seem a bit weird to take time to take a weapon from my bag, but not a chocolate bar. Hmn. -
Make Armour and Spacesuits Take Time to Equip
Superiorform replied to Superiorform's topic in Archive
I do see what you mean, and I totally understand, it comes down to differing opinions between us when we say this. I don't think making it take time to get a chocolate bar from my bag would be fun - it's just annoying. We get nothing from it. Whereas, making it apply solely to combat items does add something - the realism of not quickdrawing an assault rifle and fucking someone over. If that makes sense. Or I might be missing something. -
Make Armour and Spacesuits Take Time to Equip
Superiorform replied to Superiorform's topic in Archive
Let me be more specific. I'm fine with being caught out, but it should not arbitrarily apply to specific things. In our case, we're thinking of arbitrarily applying it to armour and spacesuits: things which provide an advantage in specific situations. But we're not applying it to other things which would still make sense: guns and actually general inventory management. Gameplay should be consistent and reasonable. So either apply it to the entire inventory system, or keep it as it is. You know what? That's absolutely fine by me. I would like to see this applied to all combat items. One cannot instantly reach into his bag and draw an SMG, and I have been fucked over many a time by players that have done this, as antag and sec. If we knew that an unarmed person could not become a massive threat at a moment's notice, we could do much more interesting things. It would mean security would have to work around with their guns drawn on red. Different things could take different times, of course, depending on the item, and where it is being drawn from. A pistol from a holster, or a knife from a pocket shouldn't take very long at all, whereas a crossbow from the back should take a few seconds at least. -
1. You were probably waiting 30 mins for mining to mine and process the materials. Usual cargo orders should be fast, unless it's low-population dead-hour, where everything is kinda slow. 2. You don't need to order firing pins from cargo. There would be firing pins in the firing range. You could use them to test your guns in the firing range. 2,5. And even if you need to order them from cargo, it's just 5 minutes before the cargo tech mails it to your lab. 3. That may be a surprise to you, but you aren't actually inventing new things every round. You can't print a firing pin because the NanoTrasen and/or GameBalance doesn't allow you. Lame, huh? 4. And again, the "fun" part is already accessible. Just use the firing pins found in the firing range. (Also, I don't get what's so fun about firing your guns at a monkey or a metal wall. And I don't even see any scientists actually testing these guns anyway.) I'd love it if people stopped focusing on the 'antagging scientists' part so much. It doesn't even really affect scientists that much. They can still test their guns in the firing range, antags get sweet as firing pins from the uplink, security has their guns like usual. It's not the end of the world, people. Firing pins is just another interesting mechanic to add to the game. It allows many new things like stealing firing pins from armoury's guns as a ninja, and hoping the officers don't notice it and make them look like dummies when they try to fire at you. Or a gun that only an antag can use, that explodes when someone else tries it. Or simply ERT-only guns, so the janitor or nuke op can't use it against ERT. Generally personal guns, a paranoid Captain could have his e-gun locked to his ID or DNA. How about sabotaged firing pins that explode your gun after three shots? How fun would finding an unlocked firing pin in maintenance be? Would you carry a gun without a firing pin in your backpack? "But officer, this gun doesn't have a firing pin, it's really just a piece of metal and not a gun in its current state. It could also change a guns "value". Basically, you have as many guns as you have unlocked firing pins. In the time of need, a scientist can't print an armoury's worth of guns and just hand them out to everyone like it's christmas. Now, this scientist has only 8 unlocked firing pins. Does he make the officers wait 5 minutes while he raises research levels to get laser cannons? If he does, will he give all 4 officers cannons? What if they can't wait, does the scientist print them sub-par guns now? What about other 4 pins, will he print smaller guns so the officers have backups? Or does he forget about security and just prints cannons for his science-buddies for self-defence? What if the scientist doesn't have too much resources? Will he print 8 good guns? Or 16 small guns? If the 8 guns with firing pins run out of juice, he could just remove the firing pins and install them in the other guns. I believe, this is why firing pins could be an interesting mechanic, it adds depth or something. Honestly, this has actually convinced me. I'm not sure about making "x person only" pins, perhaps maybe just for antags, but everything else does sound really fun. As long as we make the negative effect very very minor to scientist antags, I'd be down for this.

What it says on the tin. We shouldn't be able to immediately equip spacesuits, especially in space, and I often see it powergamed with people going into the backpacks and putting on armour when faced with a gun, or taking off armour to move somewhere, then putting it back on. This goes doubly so for captain and security voidsuits.

Make the Captain's Office Larger
Superiorform replied to Butterrobber202's topic in Completed Projects
I agree wholeheartedly. On oldmap, you had space to walk around, greet your prestigious visitors, a comfortable table to chat and drink, place to store your liquor... and now you have this tiny cramped office space just for work. It should be luxurious. Mind you, I might be a bit biased about it because of the character I use for captaining. -
I really don't want to start seeing antag captains and HoSs. It seems that people can hardly trust you anyway, and I really don't want people OOCly suspecting these roles of being subversive. I love to play antag, and I love to play captain, but I really don't want these mixed - except for the extremely rare situation that an antag can remove the LI and convert.

Thank you for the criticism - and actually, I think Snazz is a good word. I do like your suggested names. I, myself, hate the word swag too. I might go by Sleepy's suggestion too, and just take the model name. I'm 50 50 on that. I'll expand on my backstory a little bit, what he did during his days of fame.

Coalf has said everything there is to be said, really. I would like a greater focus on phoron. And I can say, I have seen the head of security order all the phoron vented into space. I tried to point out just how expensive and wasteful that was, or say it could be kept in a locked room, but to no avail. We need to do something to show just how expensive phoron is.
