Secret Game Mode weighting adjustment suggestions
Superiorform replied to Scheveningen's topic in Completed Projects
Not much to add here, but I agree completely with everything that has been said. The defacto should be traitor, then a bit of ninja/wiz/ling/vampire to spice it up, then merc/raider for, hopefully, a "holy shit its mercs", then the occasional cult, because it can be fun, but gets boring fast, then the calm extended. In my opinion, malf should be removed. I have seen one or two fun malf rounds, but mostly, it's bad. That's my take on it. I hope these changes are implemented. -

BYOND Key: Superiorform Character Names: Jack Humblin, Jack Humblin, and Jack Humblin. Species you are applying to play: Snake Person What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Rainbow Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: The article interested me greatly with the very well thought out lore. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I, uh, like snakes. Snakes are great. I actually have a pet snake, called Nate. I want to be like Nate. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, obviously the lack of mammaries makes ERP very very different to how one would normally ERP. You also have to constantly remember to slither everywhere you go. Character Name: Slithersnek 'ssss'sSss Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Slithersneks parents were both killed at a very young age by human explorers. Slithersnek joined a war party, mentioned in the lore article, so he could get revenge. What do you like about this character? He slithers everywhere he goes. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 10/10, I played Jack Humblin. Notes: I really like snakes.

Sadly, I haven't had the chance to RP with Moondancer much, but I have heard good things of her. The app itself looks good, and the answer to the question I feel is most important, what makes RPing an IPC different to a human, is very well thought out and detailed. The backstory has clearly been very well thought out and is very interesting, I particularly like the fact that this IPC will be a librarian. I cannot find any criticisms for this app, so, definitely a +1 from me. I hope I get a chance to RP with you in future.

Auntie Marian was meant to be overbearing and overprotective, that is intentional, if you think it is over the top, I would be willing to take it down a notch. Could you elaborate on the micromanaging part? I'm not saying you're wrong, but could I have an example, because I'm not really sure what to do to fix this. I thought i normally kept out of the way, advising, and in general, the AI finds murders and blood and gore quite grisly, and tries to keep away from talking about it. I OOCly don't know engineering either, and I don't see how you can micromanage the other departments. As for the comments on Humblin, 100% agree, For Jake, yeah, he isn't ICly liked after the Sol event, but people seem to think he's a cool dud OOCly. Thank you for your feedback, I hope that I can prove you right in your justifiably tentative +1.
-
Yes, you brought this up to me, and I considered changing it. At the time, I considered stretching out the "testing" over more text, but I felt as if that would needlessly extend the length of the backstory, and not be very interesting anyway. I do see how it could be a problem though, so I will rewrite that part to make it more clear. Aside from that, thanks for taking the time to post this feedback on me. I had no idea that I had trained one of your cadets.

This has to definitely be a +1 from me. As a player, Abos consistently demonstrates very good RP, with the snarky no fun allowed Raymond Hawkins we all know and love. Hawkins, of course, isn't just capable of snarky professionalism, and Abos has played him showing many different facets of his personality (Jake learned the hard way). So, Abos is a very capable roleplayer, who plays nuanced characters. I would probably rate him 8-9/10. As for the app, all the answers are well developed. I love the backstory, as others have said, it shows an understanding of the lore and a coherent, interesting story, that does not tell us everything about the character. I also can't wait for my characters to be a higher rank than Abos's . So, no criticisms from me, a strong, strong +1. Good luck with your app.
-
I like this app mostly. I just think that your answer on the OOC responsibilities of heads only mentions IC things. I also fully agree with what you said about roleplaying. As Tricky mentioned, perhaps the malf-AI and syndicate mentions in your backstory are a bit much, but I think that the idea of it somehow having no laws, and being moved to an IPC shell because it acted fine is interesting in a good way. As a player, I think you are great. Haven't seen much of how you are OOCly but all your characters are a pleasure to RP with. In total, a +1, but I think I would like some development on the question I mentioned. Good luck!
-
Is this in an IC sense? I certainly see what you mean with interactions with Humblin getting absurd, and I fully agree. I have stopped playing him, realizing myself that he became a shitter. I am honestly not proud of him at all. I think that his bland, uninteresting personality is what made me play shit with him. I ask that you take a look at Jake, Daniel, and Lukas for what I believe to be good examples of my RP, I do believe I have fixed this. Again, always with Humblin. After joining with my bland, shitty, uninteresting character I did RnD, realising that I had nothing more to do because I couldn't have fun RP with Humblin, I hit cryo. The same has not been happening with Lukas, because once I have done a lot of science jobs I can always have fun RPing with the other scientists in his patriarchal, joking way. So, yes, I agree with this statement to an extent, and I believe I have rectified this. Both of the characters I have in mind are of the personality to do as you have described, and I believe I have the personality and skills in real life that I can transfer over to those characters. Regardless, this can be proven by playing a head, and if I am shown to be incompetent, then so be it, the whitelist is justly stripped, and I remain in a position where no harm can be done. I'll be honest, when I first saw your comment, my stomach dropped. But now, I am glad you brought these points up, because they are issues that most certainly need adressing, and I wanted them adressed. So I thank you for this long reply, and the effort put in.

[Accepted] Sonicgotnuked Unathi app
Superiorform replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
SonicGotNuked is a player I very much like and enjoy playing with, his OOC conduct is exceptional, and so is his play of antagonists and heads. He has also shown that he can play an alien character to a high standard, as shown with his plethora of cat characters, and I always love to play a scientists under Kalla-Ka'risco Cama particularly. As for the application, it's all good, except I think it would benefit from more detail on the differences role-playing an unathi. I think that the only relevant comment there is the comment about the honour based culture, which is of course, particularly important for Zanun'kza Guwan. The rest of the answer to that question I can't see having an effect on the on-station roleplay. The backstory written interests me greatly. It's a refreshing break from the multitude of coalition "muh honour" liggers, and I like the fact that this guy could even be considered dishonourable, and his role as a janitor is perfectly fitting. I can see his backstory actually having a large effect on his roleplay. Overall, Sonic is a great player, with great characters, and this character should be no exception. Please develop the answer to one of the questions. Definitely a +1. Can't wait to see this guy. -
BYOND key: Superiorform Character names: Jake Lawrenson, Cathryn Latham, Daniel Tilton. The AI, Auntie Marian, and the borgs, Pacificatron and Needles. I used to play Jack Humblin. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Around 8-9 months. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Two reasons: • Driving the round: I believe I have had some quite successful rounds as antagonist, and received compliments on it. I believe this is because I try to constantly keeping the enjoyment of all other players in mind. I try to involve everyone, and give people a fair chance to RP before beginning the robusting. I think that more heads and captains should make an effort to stop security from immediately shutting down the antagonists, and be quite lenient, because in the end, this often leads to more fun, for all involved. Also, in revolution and event rounds, command has a massive responsibility to drive the action, and I sometimes believe it falls short on that. As a head, I could do all these things that, in my opinion, a lot of other heads aren’t doing, and I could make the game more fun for everyone. • I have some fun ideas for my characters, and I could better develop them as heads of staff, and I also think it would be quite fun to be in a leadership position, and good for my RP. I wish to promote Lukas Hollydale to RD, make an unathi HoS, and make a captain, who you will soon read about. Why did you come to Aurora?: When I first heard of this “Space Station 13” by cruising the random subreddit button, the way it was described on a few websites, I assumed that all servers would have the level of RP that Aurora has. I quickly learned otherwise, and when I did find Aurora, I was relieved. I will admit, I haven’t spent much time on other servers. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, of course. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay. Google tells me that role playing is “the acting out of a particular person or character”, and on a technical level, this is perfectly correct, and pretty much how I would define it. But, to me, it goes a bit deeper. To me, roleplay should be about fun. I am perfectly willing, and would accept, to a reasonable extent, not entirely realistic roleplaying if it makes it fun. After all, it is a game. In the same way, I am all for trying to play super realistically, and I have played my characters in both ways. So, to sum up, fun, and keeping it realistic. I am re-writing this answer to word it better. Roleplaying is "the acting out of a particular person or character." When I roleplay, I try to step into the shoes of the character I am playing, and act exactly as he or she would act. When I am playing as a character that I invented, I seem to learn about them as they are thrown into different situations, it is so natural. That is not to say I am not willing to occasionally not play hyper-realistically, if it would result in more fun for me and others, and I am willing to accept other people sometimes not playing perfectly realistically for more fun, as long as it is not immersion breaking. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think I pretty much answered this question above, but, a head of staff needs to drive the round to make it fun, manage the department, to keep it fun, and also, to act as someone newer players can trust in helping and teaching them. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are those who have been deemed as trustworthy enough by the community and by administration to, there it is again, keep the game fun. They need drive the round, and set an example for all other players. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Alexander [i'll be honest, I haven't thought of a fitting second name yet, or how to properly connect it to his families history. By the time this application gets accepted, if it gets accepted, I will have thought of a second name, which are, in my opinion, quite important.] Character age: 56 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born on a harsh frontier colony, Alexander didn’t have the greatest childhood. His great grandparents had moved to the frontier worlds looking for riches, and for generations, his family had not found them. His parents did not want Alexander to be just another generation in the cycle, and worked incredibly hard to get Alexander the money and opportunities to go out and make a better life for himself. Alexander did so, and seeing the hard work his parents put in, studied extremely hard throughout secondary, and college. His parents had saved up a little nest egg, and with great sadness and little ceremony, Alex left his home, all that he had ever known, for a new, better life. Alexander went to a respectable university in Tau Ceti, and studied such subjects as economics, and management. When he graduated, he managed to get hired by NT in a small role in internal affairs. Taking a page from his parents’ book, Alex, too, worked extremely hard to rise through the ranks of the NanoTrasen conglomerate. He showed a strong aptitude for leadership, a friendly disposition, a polite professionalism, and a strong initiative, keeping calm under pressure. All this, of course has had him noted by higher ups, and they continued to test his abilities, and eventually, had him managing a station externally. After this, they had him on station, speaking with people, and then, after 30 years of being with NanoTrasen, they offered him a captain position. After gaining experience in that role, they transferred him to the NSS Aurora. Alexander got the life his parents wanted him to, but by this time, they have, of course, died of old age. What do you like about this character?: I have a nice personality in mind for him, he will be savouring and making the most of the wealth he has, that his parents didn’t have, and I like the fact that he can say that he worked for his position, and he succeeded. My other characters can be proud of how far they’ve come (except for Tilton), but this guy dragged himself out of a poor situation, into the upper echelons of NT command. He's also quite humble, and willing to just shoot the shit with the janitor or miner, for the same reasons. What do you dislike about this character?: Well, he is inherently flawed, as we all are. Being rather nouveaux-riche, he is worried about how others view him, and tries maybe too hard to please other people. Whilst he is proud of how far he has come, he is still insecure about being that poor boy from the frontier. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: As outlined in the backstory, he works hard, has a friendly professionalism to him, and can keep calm under pressure. He is extremely devoted to his work and NT. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Until recently, I would have placed myself smack bang average, 5/10. I played uninteresting characters who had their moments. Recently, with the help of a few better RPers, I think I have really nuanced my characters, and turned them into people in average circumstances, with average, but interesting personalities. So, now, I would say 7/10. Extra notes: This is my first character who doesn’t have just average circumstances, and an average personality, so he should be very different, but fun to RP. I hope he isn’t too snowflakey. Also, I’ve thought long and hard about this character, and I have a lot of things that I can’t wait to explain and reveal through RP. Finally, any and all criticism and positive comments are welcomed. I wish to improve this character to make it the best it can be.

I played Greywolf in this round, and UM has very adequately outlined all of my concerns. I reckon that this was terrible play from Vira, from a both OOC, and IC perspective. Firstly, OOCly, it shut all possible roleplay down, around 40 minutes into the round. When we had arrived on station, we all had wonderful RP with the various people we met, and we even have okay RP with security when they arrive. After we refuse to utterly disarm ourselves, security moves to the armoury, and suits up, whilst we move to science, and RP with the scientists and Cama. We find ourselves bolted in maintenance, and Vira shoots us, in one massive show of unnecessary escalation of force. Considering that three of four mercs were there... RIP antags, and RIP roleplay. 40 minutes into the round, and Vira ignores all the great roleplay, and ends it for the antags. ICly, it was also a terrible decision. We had not threatened the station in any way, we simply were carrying arms. One might have expected a Head of Security to try to solve this problem by negotiating, and keeping the death toll low. No. Of course not. VIra decides to scream for us to get on the floor, and shoots us, resulting in the death of two officers and a civilian. Bad plays.

Oh, in that case, +1 from me. -
[Accepted]Chada1's Skrell Application
Superiorform replied to Chada1's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I have to say, this is one of the best squish apps I've seen. Orbul has an average, yet interesting life, and you have presented him as a very interesting, funny, and nuanced character. You have demonstrated a great understanding of the lore. I struggle to articulate just how much I like this character, and I shall enjoy playing alongside it. All of my +1s. -
[Denied]Omega5102's Moderator Application
Superiorform replied to Omega5102's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
I think I've seen you online a few times, and I remember that my interactions with your characters were very positive and enjoyable. Your OOC conduct, too, is excellent. That being said, I am not sure you come on all that often, and i very rarely see you in IC or OOC. So, overall, I'm unsure. Judging by your actions IC and OOC, I think you would make a good moderator, but I have hardly seen you around, and I believe a moderator should be quite active. Definitely would be a +1 if I saw you more. Then again, you are GMT+8, and I'm GMT+0. So, maybe you're on whilst I'm asleep. That's probably it. -
Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Superiorform Character Name(s): Jake Lawrenson, Alex Walker, Jack Humblin, Daniel Tilton. Pacificatron (secborg), Needles (medborg) AI Name(s): Auntie Marian Preferred means of contact: Discord, Forum PMs if needed. Age: 15 (I sound like I’m 10 here but… 16 in 3 months.) Timezone: GMT+0 When are you on Aurora?: At least four hours on weekends, weekdays, after 5PM, up to 2AM, normally 1-4 hours. Experience How long have you played SS13?: 7 months… I think? Maybe 8. How long have you played on Aurora: See above. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I am very knowledgeable on science, combat, medical, and cargo, the like. I have absolutely zero experience in engineering, but aside from that, I am quite competent. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: None at all. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No bans. Two warning; one very minor, one quite severe. Personality Why do you play SS13?: Hum. This is a hard one. At first, I wasn't really sure why, but upon more thought, I think that it offers a really good platform for role-playing. The radio and top down view, coupled with the complex mechanics really allow you to get a view of what is going on, and to chat to other characters, as someone who is working on a space station. It almost feels like day-to-day life for the characters. Why do you play on Aurora?: It offers the best role-play of any server. It does not restrict antagonists, which I believe to provide the bulk of the fun, and has a good staff team that resolves disputes quickly, and in the vast majority of cases, soundly. What do moderators do?: They resolve more minor problems, and communicate with the players to get to the bottom of any problem. They communicate with the administrators for advice and judgement on anything that could have a large effect, and hand out punishments with their permission. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To take up the responsibility that comes with their powers, and to assist in making the server run smoothly. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Simply, I just want to help out. From what I have seen, the staff team on Aurora does a great job, and I want to contribute in this. I play a lot on this server, and I wish to give something back. EDIT: Upon further thought, TheGreatJorge helped me think on why I really want to be a mod. Yes, I do want to give back, but I also think that it would be fun. I want to be part of the team, I think I would enjoy solving disputes, it's what I do a lot in my daily life. I think I would be really proud to be part of the team, and to have this heightened status. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I actually think I possess many of the qualities needed. For starters, I will show why I believe myself to possess two of the qualities Skull mentions in the thread “Trial Moderator Criteria”: Communication: I am part of a debating team, and reached the national semi finals in a public speaking competition. I pride myself on my eloquence and ability to communicate, and actually enjoy debating. Following on from that, I can remain courteous, and I believe I have demonstrated this well in OOC. There was an instance where I was accused of being a bad antag, and some horrible words and names were thrown my way. I did not respond in kind, rather, I called them out on their rudeness, and asked them why they believed I was terrible. I calmly gave my counterpoints and explanations, and not once did I insult anyone. Good Judgement: I always err on the side of caution when taking strong actions, and I believe I have demonstrated this in my play as an antagonist and as security. I try to make sure I don’t shut down the round or role-play to fast. I believe this would translate well to me being a moderator. I would not be handing out bans for minor things, or without contacting and informing an administrator. When dealing with someone else’s fun, I would always make sure I do the right thing, and this involves me asking for help. Also, I always try not to get too attached to things in a 2d spessman game. I would definitely stand back and immediately inform someone else if I am part of an issue. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: As I outlined above, very well. Seriously, a stranger calling me names in 2d spessman is more likely to amuse me than hurt me. Again, as I outlined above, not once have I got angry or responded to personal insults in kind. I would, however, admit to this: while I don’t get angry in response to insults, I can get a bit invested, and make sure I argue my case, and I can get a tad frustrated when I feel as if I am not getting my point across, if that makes sense. I suppose this stems from my love of debating. Anything Else You Want to Add: As Skull said, I was originally going to show off all of my achievements and stuff here, but it seems I already covered them. Instead, I shall say that I believe I am quite well known on Aurora, and I have been getting compliments. Chada1 has said some lovely things about me, and I have received a ton of compliments on my antag play. Oh, and to end on a negative, but I should definitely mention it: There has been an isolated instance of me getting a tad salty when I was an antag, and I believed myself to have been killed without fun. I tried to role-play it out, wasn’t being very hostile, and I get batoned to death by Jester Stamos. I still think that was very, very wrong, and shut down all the good RP. EDIT: I remembered another instance where I was a bit salty. I was a traitor, and was teamed up with two other traitors. We had the AI and borgs subverted. The traitors and security borgs were holed up at departures, tactical armour, advances energy guns, and experimental SMGs. ERT attacked us without role-play, resulting in all hostages dead, and all traitors dead. I ahelped, and complained in OOC saying why I thought it was wrong, no action was taken. I still believe the ERT to have been in the wrong.

Hunter, people who make fun of you for your age need to grow up themselves. I am 15, and I think I'm pretty well liked here.

Minecraft: Aurora Realm [OUTDATED - SEE NEW POST]
Superiorform replied to Azande's topic in Other Games
Minecraft Username: Superiorform Character Name: Amaal Al-Haytham Character's Role: Chief Magi (As a scientist and alchemist) Short Bio: A wise man, philosopher, and scientist from a foreign land. A powerful leader called upon him to solve a problem of measurements as he was widely known as the smartest man in the realm. After a quip on how he was, indeed, the smartest man in the all the realm, surpassing the leader in wit, charm, and intelligence, and perhaps, just maybe, Al-Haytham would be better suited to lead the realm, the king became enraged and had him arrested. Al-Haytham escaped his death sentence by bribing a guard with his immense wealth, and he was forced into hiding. Surprisingly to Haytham, who did not expect such guile from a commoner, the guard took all of Haytham's wealth, and Haytham was left nearly penniless (or so he thought. He still possessed much more wealth than the average man could dream of.) He fled his land and home, and journeyed far to where he could continue his experiments and tinkering. This journey has led him to the Fort of Borealis. ((From here, I would have had the Haytham impress the count with his wit, smarts, and small inventions, but of course, this is up to you.)) -
I haven't RPed with Zohjar much, but what I have seen from her has been very positive and enjoyable RP. The items in question would definity stimulate some good RP, so it is definitely a +1 from me.

BYOND Key: Superiorform Character name: Jake Lawrenson Item name: Jake's Packed Lunch Why is your character carrying said item to work? Well, Jake is still a mother's boy, despite being 19, and a security officer. His mother worries massively about him, and still sends him packed lunches to take to scho- work. Of course, Jake could make these lunches himself... Item function(s): I was thinking a container with an apple and a sandwich inside, but if anyone has any better ideas, then please suggest something. Item description: A brown paper bag, with "Jake", "Love, mum, xoxo", and a heart, all in black marker pen, written on it. Item appearance: A brown paper bag, with top rolled to kinda sorta seal it. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? I was hoping that when Jake pulls his lunch out, that other characters would ask about it, then mercilessly mock Jake. I try to play Jake as always a little scared and worried, and I try to mention for how little time he has been in security, and I really try to guilt trip those who murder him. I think a packed lunch would be a greay extension of this, and it isn't too snowflakey. In fact, it's a negative trait of the character, really. Additional comments: This was wrote on a phone, so forgive typos.

Player Complaint: Adam Evans, K0NFL1QT, CMO.
Superiorform replied to SomeoneOutTher3's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
It was a fun hostage situation definitely, but I disagree with your complaint. If you have the ability to quickly and easily end a hostage situation, you would take it, right? Now, imagine you are taking someone hostage in real life, an you was letting a doctor treat a hostage. You would have your gun pointed at the doctor, and you would order him to stay the fuck away from you. You didn't. You let him get close without shooting him, and you payed the price. Edit: Oh, Veradox, exactly. The CMO had a plan to safely save the day. Even if he was a janitor, that's fine, he knew he could do it 100%, no hostages harmed.
