1. It's time to remove the main level now. We must have optimal efficiency.
2. You're objectively wrong. All of my thots are beautiful
3. The removal of the cheesy stun mechanics would be fine, but it'd be taking away a lot of power by removing the stun-immune robes in addition to nerfing their talismans. I suggest choosing a couple things to hit only, since cult usually gets rolled over without such advantages against security. There are also methods I employ versus cultists that I pull out in the worst case scenario if I feel the cultists powergamed incredibly hard to get their advantage, in order to play back the advantages they won by powergaming. They're hard to counter, because I've had them used against myself, so honestly, I'm the only one in this thread so far that agrees with the post but doesn't have an actual balance issue with cultists.
4. god bless you sir
5. I have recently discovered that someone has a pineapple for a wallet. Or at least it looks like one. I demand that we have fruit-shaped wallets to be added as standard-issue loadout items. The idea of these are too cute, but cute enough, for characterization.
6. "The second antag contest is still ongoing." I love some of those tips, honestly, they're funnier the longer you've been here.
7. Come up with a rule that relates to living-to-dead ratio. If the amount of dead characters reaches over 30% of the original roster, maybe an ERT can be spawned. If there's any doubt the admin has a right to say, "Let the antags have this one," and tell whoever whines to deal with it. While I can understand this being something that might challenge the typical zone of comfort that an administrator is used to (as the accepted standard is that admins are hands-off with the round unless it's an event, or if there's something buggy or griefy that needs their direct intervention to set right), I do believe it is something that is worth actively considering for staff that are modding during rounds. Dying is never satisfying, but getting revenge on one's own in-round killer in a revived life as ERT for some players gives them a lot of instant gratification, to the point where they'd self-motivate to ensure that would happen, especially with how ERT is kitted and balanced presently. Cloning already presents this problem but is undercutted thanks to CMD. ERT, however, inevitably ends in their final confrontation with the round antagonist where only one party tends to walk away free from the situation. I believe it's worth its own degree of trouble compared to the troubles that are arguably much more problematic in consequence that happen in-game in the present. If this isn't possible then I'd lobby personally to have ERT disabled regardless of the situation.
8. Real talk: ERT tends to ruin more rounds for the antagonists (aka, the driving forces in the round) than it does enable roleplay for everyone. Being able to call ERT by a two-swipe authentication amounts to mostly being an instant "Oh Shit" button that also amounts to not only pressure antagonists from escalating to such a degree that command kneejerk responds with crying wolf to Central Command, but once called it deploys one to five heavily geared commandos with extensive expertise in whatever, with no real respect to character creation limitations in skill range. The ERT are not even 'characters', they are deployed via ghost role to clean up the mess, regardless of the size of the mess. Whitelisting won't help the issue since it'll still generate issues where people who get whitelisted for it end up being scrutinized much of the same way as command staff, in addition to some rounds being strapped from ERT because there's nobody with a whitelist who is ghosted. Sometimes the whitelist screening misses a player that is horrid for the mentality that the role requires. Removing them entirely is stupid, so here's an idea: Leave it up to admin or even CCIA discretion to decide whenever an ERT is really needed. Take it out from the player ability to dictate when they can spawn and suddenly all the issues regarding the ERT will be massively sized down to their lack of presence. Another upside to this is that security mains will have to learn how to play again, without a gratuitous "mistake forgiven" button that permits them to respawn as way deadlier than they were before. Over time this will be gradually more healthy for the game state, even with the initial short-term feeling when the lack of presence of the ERT is noticed during worst-case scenario situations. In the words paraphrased from an orange man: "We need a total and complete shutdown of ERT entering the NSS Aurora until our community's admins can figure out what the hell's going on."
9. I'm indifferent about this. On one hand I actually want things to do when I play engiborg but I can understand the struggle with no engineers, though.
10. title. it would be nice if borgs could stand up in combat as antagonists, since they're so easy to shut down normally in order to give the antagonists a chance against them.
11. It is not. https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/projects/1 The person assigned to it left the community and none else on the dev team have really picked it up. It's been a dead meme since late July.
12. Poly was removed again (though this was awhile ago when the current map was the numap). I would like him back, as the bird has much more personality than a floortile bot that I bet most people forget exists.
13. please don't i was being facetious because it was a stupid thing to bring up in the first place
14. uhh okay I suppose people are supposed to take that to mean a substantial amount, for some reason? It's just a dog. Such as the cat carrier containing many cats. I doubt the RP level will sink substantially if it becomes commonplace for bunches of people to bring their pets to work. Frankly I'd see a lot of potential characterization behind that facet and if anything, it'd greatly enhance roleplay. Imagine pretending to be fawning over a cute dog and pretending to pet a wholesome, adorable dog. Much like taking your dog or cat to a pet park, it's obvious the expectation that you keep after whatever messes your pet makes is a given. So this is a non-issue, and making it out to be any more of an issue that it isn't is surely a delusion. How will this negatively impact how you play, out of curiosity, since you're so evidently outspoken against it? I'm rather curious, because often people bring up issues when it personally affects them or their style of play in some way, and I'm struggling to think of a possible reason as to why you're so opposed to this. Also, please do not use "irregardless." Use "regardless" or "irrespective" instead. "Irregardless" as a word is like the bastard child that knocks up the pastor's daughter and can't hold a job.
15. I do not have an issue with this application as I did with the previous application. I'm chalking up the majority of my confrontations with Burger as a misunderstanding of his intentions and an assumption of his character that was more than a little unfair of me to be doing, which otherwise contributed to a toxic atmosphere rather than helping defend said atmosphere from toxicity. It's obvious a lot of the drama that was created had fault to go around, and not just on any one person. Toxicity begets a defensive response which 'justifies' the toxicity, and sometimes makes things much worse than they needed to be. Little cautionary tale; don't repeat what I said or did to do by yourself in treating other people behaviorally. I do not often agree with Burger's methods in changing certain features (such as the infamous 'lunchboxes are metagaming' meme which was only addressed literally rather than the meta context it was meant to be addressed as), but acting hostile and unbecoming to a developer attempting to enact controversial changes is the exact opposite of how things should be done, which I see now. I would encourage other people (i.e., this lovely community that always addresses issues in an appropriate, tactful fashion like the rest of us do) to consider opening a direct line of conversation to the developer responsible for a controversial change up that might change your way of play, Burger included. If you are willing to let personal misgivings about a developer get in the way of opening a line of discussion with a developer that wishes to change a part of the game that you don't happen to like so much in terms of its implementation, then there's an easy way to explain that: You care more about your own dramatic principles than you do of this server's development. Being communicative is more important than holding a grudge. Don't do as I did. Things have certainly changed now and Burger has definitely adopted a much cooler head in the face of adversity, and hopefully so have I considering my cases of mistreatment of Burger. I endorse this app. Also, I'm not attempting to change anyone's opinion by saying this. I'm stating my opinion only. I'm not saying this to change anyone's mind. nope my judgement proves to be wrong again.
16. The output of the solars themselves is not exactly the issue. It's the control SMESes that handle each solar unit that are the issue. They require SMES coil upgrades to up the SMES outputs to more adequately give power to the station. By default, those SMESes don't get even close to outputting the same as the main engine SMES would without it being upgraded. The solars route this way: Solar controller controls alignment of panels when turned on > Solar panels draw energy and move it along the wires to the solar SMES > Solars draw this energy into its input and stored capacity > Solars SMES output gets switched on, contributing its amount of power to the station dependent on its output. While theoretically you can power the station only on the solars, the issue is the SMESes not supporting enough output to do so. They would require ridiculous amounts of upgrades and redundancies to do the task. Since it's far too much work to make the solars work to that on-paper theoretical degree anyway, this is still a fine solution to alleviate the instability. I don't think anyone will really miss it short of picking up trash on the roof z-level.
17. Reminder that this application was accepted: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=99&t=11350&p=101287 Ergo, the precedent exists and this is okay. Generally speaking, I should think that this should develop someday down the lines of "petstation 13" if it becomes a popular thing to do. Nobody cares about this talking point, stop using it as if its an actual argument. Stop attempting to apply 2018 logic to 2460. The state of a workplace in 2018 is nowhere close to what would be a workplace in 2460. There will not be simulated poop mechanics until Lord Fowl manages to get his PR pushed through the bowels of github. "wHaT iF tHe DoG pOoPs" is not an argument, as defecation is not represented through mechanics. An argument could be made that pooping is not canon in lore, as lore tries to represent and justify mechanics. NanoTrasen is a notoriously greedy corporation but I doubt they would find it costing too much money to allow a pet on station. Additionally, if you find yourself having to pay for your own food plus food to feed the dog, you're being gouged for twice as much than usual. That's economically sound in general and a worthy investment. Plus it's a space station, not just "space cubicle on its own separate floor." It's designed to accomodate people to actually live on the station for extended periods of time. This is merely not represented well due to the crew transfer nature of round pacing. I find pets to be excellent. By all means, let us implement more of them. I look forward to help-intent left clicking all of the dogs and cats.
18. Well, interesting. Rimworld, SS13 edition, by the looks of it. Very interesting, actually. I was teased earlier that "I'd like the NBT" but sadly it isn't Orion Trail. Still, this isn't actually that disappointing to me and I like the idea. I only hope the end result of the project will be as equally punishing and interesting as Rimworld.
19. I got instantly suspended by the captain and stripped of all my access because the captain thought I was suspicious. Unfair actions stacked upon another, and it forced my hand in trying to still get some up-front conflict involved in the round. Dominate is the exact reason that vampire gets any sense of relevance or power as an antagonist. I can't count on a set of hands the amount of times people have complained about antagonists using utility, abilities or gear to their advantage because it put them at a disadvantage and made them look worse than they actually are. I do not 'play fair' as an antagonist, because I know security won't, because I know the captain wasn't about to, and I know that anyone that sits around ghosting in the lobby for their chance to play murderhobo squad doesn't play fair either. It defeats the point of being an antagonist if you are not willing or allowed to do whatever it takes to accomplish in-character goals. It is as if you expect an assassin to type out a long monologue before they kill their target. You shouldn't expect a subterfuge antagonist like a vampire to immediately reveal their intentions either, or to not use what they have at their disposal to use against other characters in the round for their own personal goals. That aside, what the captain did or didn't do correctly is not the focus of this complaint. It is how the ERT geared in response to an internal threat, how they acted in response to an internal threat, and the rushdown tactics they employed to ensure everyone in the round that was an antagonist got killed. The captain pressed an "I win" button and fortuitously received mindless savages for ERT with ASPD with no regard for life or moral character at all. They ran in gunning down their threats as if they were elite commandos and did very little in the way of trying to get the least bloody outcome out of a situation. They're an Emergency Response team, not a special forces deathsquad, yet they kitted out like the latter.
20. This is absolutely untrue. I spoke to both of you and let you both in. I set you on Gonzalez with a Dominate command earlier because he was assisting the captain.
21. That is not good enough. You were taking point the entire round as ERT, the closest thing to an actual leader, yet every facet of the round that involved you went from bad to worse. That is not taking good enough initiative to be successful for the sake of roleplay, far from it, in fact. The end result of that round is that your actions led to two heads of staff being executed. From what I saw, the RD was also handcuffed. And I was handcuffed and trying to run from the rabid trooper who had apparently packed an entire armory fit for dealing with mercenaries. You joined in a role with incredible amounts of round impact and responsibility and your actions singlehandedly devastated what was otherwise a decent round.
22. You're justifying in-character execution, despite that I didn't even hurt the trooper. I was right near them after they got ahold of me again and they said that "I got them again", and then shortly after, "Okay" into their radio. They then said "Sorry" directly to me and proceeded to attempt to execute me. They succeeded because it takes two minutes to bust out of handcuffs, time I didn't have until I ran out of blood to get hulked. This shows that they told you I got captured again but you still made the call to execute me. You brought only ballistics and you instructed your other trooper to bring ballistics. What do you think people can gauge from your actual intent here?
23. You purposefully skirted around a dominate command instead of stepping in to stop my detainment. This is the equivalent of lawyering laws as an AI. If your character believed mine innocent, why did you let the other trooper restrain me? Don't lie about your equipment either. You guys both had at least 5 frag grenades between you two. Evandorf tossed at least 3 at me on the surface. Amory counted two (one from the medical equipment and another in the surgery room where you also caused a breach). Why the hell is a medical trooper carrying ballistic firearms to deal with an internal crew issue where command staff are supposedly compromised? "Shoot with ballistics and leave them in crit" is not a viable means of detainment. That is not what security is supposed to do. That is not what ERT are supposed to do. That is what validhunting garbage does to end the round the quick and bloody way. You were the ranking ERT member. You were giving out the orders and were the effective leader of the team. You must also take responsibility for your subordinate, because you were supposed to be the one giving out instructions. I was handcuffed the whole time until I lost enough usable blood to hulk myself. By the time the ERT trooper started shooting me and attempted to execute me, I took a couple hits and glared them to start running. And it was long after I kept running around while restrained that I could mount an effort to strike back since I had a lot of ammunition poured down-range my way and not a lot of time to do anything. It's ridiculous to assert you weren't responsible for anything that happened this round. Two admissions that you weren't paying attention. For a game that's half the game port screen and the other half the text screen to tell you what's going on, it's shocking to see that you make not only one mistake in reading context but two.
24. I was the HOS this round. I don't believe I ever saw DasFox playing this round up until ERT being called, just to clarify ahead of time. I did ask around as to whether they were observing for the majority of the round, and it would seem as if DasFox had been observing up until ERT was called. Due to a lack of precedent regarding Embracing loyalty implanted staff, I ahelped about it and got it squared away that it was okay to act like a typical antagonist. My overall gimmick was that my character adopted traits and goals of their sire and my character would attempt to assist the vampire that sired mine, in which case, that goal was to sire the entirety of the command staff and also take the station personnel as cattle. Eventually the issues escalated into full-blown combat due to some miscommunications of intention and that the captain suspended my HOS because of the circumstances involved prior to my character getting turned into a vampire. So the ERT deploys, they open fire guns blazing under the direction of DasFox who was the apparent specialist medical trooper. Kitted out with the typical injectors and also armed with a rather large array of ballistic weaponry which was pretty odd considering that they were responding to an internal crew issue and not the likes of mercenaries, you'd think they would want to reduce kills down to a minimum by packing energy weaponry. Apparently DasFox instructed Evandorf to pack frag grenades, too? It was pretty interesting to face-off ERT that were packed with fragmentation grenades to deal with supposedly compromised command staff with intent to kill rather than capture. AmoryBlaine as Daniel Carmichael gets gunned down rather quickly, and his dominate command to the lesser trooper failed to function despite me seeing him whisper it out. While I adminhelped this, it was testified as a bug and the trooper didn't see it. Later down the line I get held up by DasFox's heavily kitted out "medical" trooper and I already have a resort to deal with them. I Dominate them easily and instruct them to let me go, insisting to them through reasonable justification that my character was innocent. One cannot argue against a dominate command, either, it is a paranormal will overpowering another, it's more akin to a Jedi mind trick than it is a persuasion attempt. You cannot counter-rationalize a Dominate command, you are required by roleplay to execute it, otherwise the Dominate ability is completely useless. DasFox ignores the dominate command because they supposedly didn't get an answer back from a moderator heavily caught up with the issue that DasFox led the ERT absolutely horribly and set a terrible precedent for what they were intent on doing as soon as they spawned in. They have me captured anyway, disobeying their dominate command to have me let go. Later on, I'm dragged to departures and I try to plan out my escape. I'm not terribly successful as I don't get very far with veilstepping. Dasfox then authorizes to execute me, a command staff member, even as I was still handcuffed and I was still back in the hands of the ERT trooper. I die after a long confrontation and ghost over to the RD, played by Drago. She's being held up and then suddenly DasFox starts shooting at her. It wasn't a reflexive shot either. The RD did not even fight back, they attempted to run after being shot for doing nothing wrong and still got filled with bullets. That's two command staff members that got executed by an ERT trooper. Not a leading trooper, but a specialist only responsible for acting in the stead as the squad medic and assisting the station with any medical issues. Dasfox and the other trooper ran around turning the station into Antag Columbine. My personal verdict, as a player? Staff should remove this person from the server. They have, according to Doc who chipped in on DasFox's CCIA app, a very long history of validhunting and escalating to gross degrees and ignoring very simple roleplay courtesies part of the Aurora culture ever since I joined the server. DasFox only started playing again early this month after quitting in March, showing a very nonchalant display for the rules and roleplay in general while still going so far as having a history of harassing people in deadchat, ghosting around to nag people in LOOC over completely minor problems, and otherwise showing a completely lack of respect and consideration for other players and their experience in playing here. And they come back from a hiatus, say to have supposedly changed and yet all of their behavior attached to them just seems really familiar to the Dasfox some people recognize from March? No way. We gave kids like Plahunter and Coolbc more chances for worse. Never again. I believe the one mod that could handle this was really ill prepared to deal with a single ERT trooper causing so much damage in this round. Decision upon decision made by DasFox as the psuedo leader made things much more complicated and worse off for the state of the round. AmoryBlaine if you would also chip in, I'd appreciate it.
